At the time, multiple cast members of "Sex and the City" <a href="https://www.insider.com/sex-and-the-city-cast-tribute-willie-garson-dead-57-2021-9">posted touching tributes for Garson.</a></p><p>Last week, following the release of the last "And Just Like That" episode starring Garson, the cast and crew spoke to Vulture about the impact Garson had on the show and on their lives.</p><p>Parker and Garson had been friends long before the "Sex and the City" series and the 56-year-old actress told Vulture that Garson had asked her to keep his diagnosis confidential.</p><p>"I knew before we started shooting that Willie was sick," she said. "He asked me to keep that confidential, and I honored that. It was fraught for me to know that he was sick with that particular, terrifying diagnosis. Parker said the day was "particularly difficult" for everyone because they were filming <a href="https://www.insider.com/what-happens-mr-big-and-just-like-that-satc-revival-2021-12">a fictional funeral</a> whilst knowing that a member of the cast was sick. </p><p>"And for Willie to have to leave, you knew that it was serious," Parker added. "If Willie could be there and do one more episode or one more scene, he would have done it. But he knew what he needed to do to take care of his son and of himself, and I am so glad that he did that because when he passed away, he wanted to do so in an environment and circumstance that made him feel safe and comfortable."</p>

And it looks like Sarah Jessica Parker and Cattrall couldn't mend things in time for the January 10 announcement of <a href="https://www.insider.com/sex-and-the-city-reboot-release-date-cast-2021-1">"And Just Like That...,"</a> a 10-episode series on HBO Max that will follow our favorite New York City girlfriends, who are now in their 50s as they continue to navigate life and love.</p><p>While Parker confirmed that she'll reprise her role as Carrie Bradshaw along with Cynthia Nixon, who will return as Miranda Hobbs, and Kristin Davis, who's back to play Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, Cattrall noted that she will not return as the sexually-free public relations executive, Samantha Jones. And fans are sad about it.</p><p>One even tweeted on Monday: "I absolutely love Sex and the City and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is great example of putting yourself first. No matter where we are or what we do."</p><p>And although Parker has appeared to let bygones be bygones, here's a breakdown of their relationship that's been rife with disagreements.</p><h2>Cattrall was allegedly the reason for the cancellation of<a href="https://www.insider.com/reasons-men-need-to-watch-sex-and-the-city-2019-12"> 'Sex and the City 3.'</a></h2><p>After <a href="http://people.com/tv/sex-and-the-city-third-movie-rumors-quotes/">years of speculation</a> over the possibility of a third <a href="http://www.insider.com/category/sex-and-the-city">"Sex and the City"</a> <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword>, during which Parker had said the idea was in a "warming drawer," the chance for fans to see a final chapter was killed for good in September 2017.</p><p>The Daily Mail <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4929412/Kim-Cattrall-causes-studio-shelve-Sex-City-3.html">reported that the third movie was shelved</a> "due to the demands of Kim Cattrall." </p><p>"Kim had the audacity to tell Warner Bros. that she would only do this if they made other movies she had in development," a source <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4929412/Kim-Cattrall-causes-studio-shelve-Sex-City-3.html">told the Daily Mail</a>. "Ridiculous. It's over...we're not doing it," Parker <a href="http://extratv.com/2017/09/28/sarah-jessica-parker-confirms-there-will-be-no-sex-and-the-city-3/">told Extra</a>. "I'm disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It's not just disappointing that we don't get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting a third movie."</p><p>And it wasn't the first time something like this happened.</p><p>Reports of Cattrall's high expectations surfaced before every "Sex and the City" movie. So we will just have our memories, but please know that all of the love and support for us through the years is felt by us and we are so grateful for all of you!"</p><h2>Cattrall weighed in once more and took aim at Parker.</h2><p>After a weekend had gone by, Cattrall spoke out once more in defense of the reports about her involvement with the movie's cancellation.</p><p>According to <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4944718/Kim-Cattrall-slams-Sarah-Jessica-Parker-Sex-City-3.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailceleb#ixzz4uSG9gGqdNd">a new report from the Daily Mail</a>, Cattrall taped an interview with Piers Morgan for his TV show "Life Stories." An audience member reportedly told the Daily Mail that Cattrall denied making any sort of demand of Warner Bros.</p><div type="image" title="kim cattrall" height="699" width="932" msid="80236882" hostid="261"></div><p>"And now, now at this very moment it's quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I've been saying for almost a year of 'no' that I'm demanding or a diva," the <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4944718/Kim-Cattrall-slams-Sarah-Jessica-Parker-Sex-City-3.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailceleb#ixzz4uSG9gGqdNd">Daily Mail reported</a>. "And this is really where I take to task the people from 'Sex And the City' and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer."</p><p>Parker did not publicly responded to Cattrall's statements.</p><h2>Even before the movie dispute, tensions were simmering.</h2><p>Before "Sex and the City" premiered on HBO in 1998, Cattrall was arguably the biggest name. She had starred in "Police Academy," "Big Trouble in Little China," and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country."</p><p>But the show's main character was played by Parker, which reportedly caused tensions on set. Parker got an executive producer credit that Cattrall didn't, and Parker's star rose while Cattrall's fell.</p><p>By the end of the series in 2004 after six seasons, stories of on-set tension were common. Cattrall only signed up to be in the 2008 movie with reluctance.</p><p>"Kim does not want [to] do the film," a friend of Cattrall's <a href="https://nypost.com/2017/10/07/inside-the-mean-girls-culture-that-destroyed-sex-and-the-city/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the New York Daily News. "She feels she has been treated horribly by Sarah Jessica Parker for six years."</p><p>But the movie was a hit, so a sequel was made. On set, though, Parker and Cattrall were "no longer speaking," <a href="https://nypost.com/2017/10/07/inside-the-mean-girls-culture-that-destroyed-sex-and-the-city/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the Post</a>. Their relationship had become poisonous.</p><h2>Cattrall even told Parker to keep away from her</h2><p>But it wasn't just professional slights that deepened the fued. There were personal slights too.</p><p><a href="http://www.insider.com/kim-cattrall-slams-former-sex-and-the-city-co-star-sarah-jessica-parkers-condolence-message-2018-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In an Instagram post back in 2018</a>, Cattrall lashed out after Parker gave condolences for Cattrall's brother, Chris, who had died. Cattrall called her a hypocrite and told her to keep away from her.</p><p>"Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now," Cattrall wrote in her post, addressed to Parker. "Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven't already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I'm writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your 'nice girl' persona."</p><p>Cattrall had a nicer response, though, to her other "Sex and the City" costar Nixon, who also expressed condolences.</p><p>"Cynthia, hearing your voice meant so much to me. Instead, the character will be written out of the storyline.</p><p>"Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave," Bloys told the publication. "Friendships fade, and new friendships start.
