Indian companies across multiple sectors have reported disappointing results in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, notes a new JM Financials report. Consequently, their poor performance has triggered stock price corrections for affected companies. The brunt of this weaker than expected earnings was largely borne by consumer centric sectors like FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), retail, and auto, which slacked largely due to dampened urban demand.<br /><br />For instance, India's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki, reported a 5% YoY decline in its total domestic passenger vehicle wholesales, largely on the back of pent-up inventory. Similarly, Honda reported a staggering 23% YoY dip in its total sales during October 2024. <br /><br />A recent report by Bernstein noted that around 48% of the companies listed on the NSE100 index missed their earnings estimate for Q2FY25, the highest since March 2020. Most companies have mentioned deteriorated domestic demand, urban slowing, macroeconomic risk, and margin pressures as the main reasons behind the dip. <br /><br />"The quarter's earnings have made investors nervous," noted the JM Financials report. The challenging environment stems from multiple factors: softening consumer demand, rising input costs, and companies' limited ability to increase prices. Moreover, this is not limited to just one quarter. Companies have been reporting weak, single-digit earnings growth for the last six consecutive quarters. <br /><br />Data from India Data Hub also suggests that corporate profits of listed companies plunged by as much as 3.4% during the quarter ended September 30, 2024. This is in stark contrast to the year-ago period, where they had shot up by over 40% <br /><br />The oil and gas sector had a difficult quarter, with refiners hit by weak margins and city gas distributors struggling with higher input costs. Financial institutions showed mixed results. While government-owned banks reported strong numbers, microfinance institutions and some private lenders faced massive difficulties with their unsecured loans. Most notable amongst this was the case of IndusInd Bank, which saw its net profits dip by 40% amidst burgeoning provisions, which climbed 87% to Rs 1,820 crore in Q2, as against Rs 974 crore reported in the year-ago period. <br /><br /><h2>Markets head southwards</h2>The selling trend by FPIs has dragged down the major Indian indices, the Nifty 50 and Sensex, both of which have dropped by around 8% since the beginning of this selling spree in October. According to National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL) data, FPIs offloaded equities worth a significant Rs 19,994 crore in just the first five trading sessions of November last week.<br /><br />The impact is clearly visible on Indian stock markets. Data suggests that while every sector in October closed the month in red, auto, oil and gas, and consumer durables were the most badly hit, each declining by as much as 10% during the month. Another indicator underlining the inherent weakness of the market was that the month saw only 242 stocks hit their 52-week high, significantly below the usual monthly average of 310. <br />

At first look, you may get an iPhone-like look, with people even mistaking it for an iPhone during my usage, but this clears up immediately after looking at the pill-shaped camera module.<br /><br />The aluminium frame comes with a glossy finish and is slightly slippery. The aluminium frame also attracts dust fingerprint smudges easily. The display is excellent, with the high refresh rate offering a good experience while gaming and watching content.<br /><br /><h2>Software and performance</h2>The Pixel 9 Pro XL runs on Android 14 out of the box and is promised to get seven years of Android updates and security patches. The software is the highlight of the Pixel lineup and the Pixel 9 Pro XL is no different. The device offers an Android experience as imagined by Google, the operating system maker.<br /><br />As expected, the device comes loaded with AI features in the form of Gemini. To enable users to make the most out of the AI features, Google is offering a one-year premium subscription to Pixel 9 Pro XL users, giving them access to Gemini Advanced, 2TB of Google Drive storage and more.<br /><br />The device comes pre-installed with Pixel Studio, a new GenAI image generation app from Google, allowing users to generate images easily on the go.<br /><br />You also get access to Gemini Live, a live-chat version of Gemini, which allows for voice-enabled interactions.<br /><br />In what might excite most photography enthusiasts like myself, the device also comes with a more powerful Magic Editor, giving access to a ton of new tools.<br /><br />Talking about AI and photography, the new Add Me feature is excellent, especially for those who often end up being the ones to take group pictures and regret not being in them. The new Add Me feature allows you to take a group picture and then hand your phone to your friend and then join the group for another picture, then using AI to blend them into one image to make the perfect group picture.<br /><br />I used this feature during one of my trips and found it to be quite useful. Once you get the hang of it and remember to stand in the correct place, it works quite well.<br /><br />The Pixel 9 Pro XL is powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset built on Samsung’s 4nm process. It comes with 16GB of RAM and offers up to 512GB of internal storage.<br /><br />If you are hoping for a drastic performance improvement compared to the predecessor, you might be disappointed. It offers an incremental improvement in performance but can easily handle everything that you throw at it.<br /><br />One area the chipset and the device has improved a lot over the Pixel 8 Pro is thermal management and proper connectivity. These were some of my biggest issues with the last-gen devices and Google has made a significant improvement in this aspect.<br /><br />The Pixel 9 Pro XL is powered by a 5,060mAh battery with 37W wired and 23W wireless charging support. The images turned out to be sharp and clear, with adequate details and minimal noise.<br /><br />On the front, the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a 42MP selfie camera. The front camera can easily capture good selfies in normal lighting and low light conditions.<br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2>The Pixel 9 Pro XL is the best device in the current Pixel lineup and one of the best Android smartphones out there. The device offers an excellent user experience, a premium design and good cameras. It offers good performance and ample storage, ticking off a lot of the boxes.<br /><br />At the same time, the Pixel 9 Pro XL commands a premium price and while enthusiasts may like the stock Android experience, the lack of customisation may not be everyone’s cup of tea. This will be the first market outside South Kores where the country is listed.<br /><br />Hyundai, which entered the Indian market in 1996 is one of the top automakers in India, moving between the second and third spots. The company emerged as the second biggest automaker in Hyundai. Since it entered the Indian market, the company has sold over 80 lakh cars in the country.<br /><br />Hyundai intends to establish India as a global manufacturing and export hub for the company and this might be an initial step in this direction.<br /><br />KFin Technologies is the registrar for the public issue and advisors for the issue include Kotak Investment Banking, Citi, HSBC, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley.<br /><br /><h2>India’s biggest IPO</h2>Hyundai India is looking to raise ₹27,870 crore from the IPO, significantly higher than the ₹21,008 crore raised by the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in 2022, making it the biggest IPO in India’s history.<br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="111690863" title="The biggest IPOs in India’s history – LIC to Paytm, companies that have raised the most funds" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><h2>About the IPO</h2>The upcoming IPO from Hyundai is entirely an offer for sale (OFS), with the company looking to offload up to 17.5% of shares, which is 14.22 crore shares with a price band of ₹1865 to ₹1,960 per share. Bids can be made in a lot size of 7 shares or multiples of 7 shares.<br /><br />The IPO opens on October 15 and will close on October 18. While the allotment will be finalised on October 18, the shares will be listed on the stock exchange on October 22.<br /><br />At the upper end of the price band, Hyundai Motor India will be valued at $18 billion (approx. ₹1.6 lakh crore), which is around 40% of its parent company, Hyundai Global’s $45 billion valuation.<br /><br />As it is entirely an OFS, the company won’t receive any funds and all the funds raised will go to Hyundai Global. However, the company has said that part of the funds will be allocated towards research and development, especially in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid technologies.<br /><br />The company has reserved 7.78 lakh shares with a value of ₹131 to ₹138 crore for employees. Employees will get these shares at a discount of ₹186 per share.<br /><br /><h2>First carmaker in over two decades to go public</h2>In addition to being the biggest IPO in the country’s history, this will also make the company the first car maker to go public in India in over two decades. I tested the Titanium Silver colour variant, which I think is the best among the three options.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="PXL_20240825_105244230" msid="113520433" hostid="261" sizebytes="65724" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra strap&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Titanium Silver colour variant comes with a Dark Grey strap. You can easily replace the strap on the Galaxy Watch Ultra thanks to the dynamic lug, allowing you to get different straps. This also means that you cannot use your older straps with the watch.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra is the largest among the smartwatches sold by the company at 47mm. Considering the display and the battery size, the watch is on the heavier side at 60.5 grams.<br /><br />Despite being packed with features and offering a durable design, the Galaxy Watch Ultra at 12.1mm is thinner than the Apple Watch Ultra.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Design" msid="113520482" hostid="261" sizebytes="63856" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra design&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra has a circular face and is placed in a squarish design with rounded corners. While I was a bit sceptical of the design during the launch, it looks quite good when you actually wear it. It sits well on the hand and makes a separate place for itself in a market filled with circular smartwatches for Android devices.<br /><br />The smartwatch comes with a highly durable case built using Titanium Grade 4 that gives it a premium look and feel. It comes with a matte finish, preventing fingerprint smudges and dust build-up.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="b" msid="113520505" hostid="261" sizebytes="66228" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra design&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><br />In line with its rugged characteristics, the smartwatch comes with 10ATM water resistance and an IP68 water and dust rating. Additionally, it comes with MIL-STD-810G certification, making it extremely durable.<br /><br />Samsung has claimed that the watch can survive temperatures ranging between -20 degrees Celsius and 55 degrees Celsius.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Sensors" msid="113520955" hostid="261" sizebytes="39826" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Sensors at the back&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The back of the watch which is packed with sensors such as the BioActive sensor is made using ceramic and sapphire glass.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Buttons" msid="113521002" hostid="261" sizebytes="33052" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Buttons on the Galaxy Watch Ultra&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra features a home button, a back button and a new customisable quick action button. The quick action button is quite handy and can be set to perform various actions such as opening the exercise menu, opening the stopwatch, torch and more.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Speaker" msid="113521024" hostid="261" sizebytes="29576" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Speaker on the left side&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The watch comes with speakers on the right side and a microphone on the left side between the buttons.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="Display" msid="113520455" hostid="261" sizebytes="50078" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra display&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra features a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED always-on-display. It comes with Sapphire glass protection and offers a peak brightness of 3000 nits, ensuring excellent outdoor visibility.<br /><br />The watch is durable and I did not notice a single scratch during my usage.<br /><br /><h2>Software and app</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra runs on WearOS with One UI 6 Watch on top. This is basically WearOS with Samsung’s tweaks on top. The watch can be connected and managed using the Galaxy Wearable app, which is easy to use. To track your health and activities, you need to download the Samsung Health app.<br /><br />Like any WearOS or Samsung watch, the interface on the Galaxy Watch Ultra is smooth and easy to use. You can install applications from the Play Store and use them on the watch.<br /><br />You get a ton of watch faces and customisation options to choose from. If you aren’t happy with these, you also have the option to download more from the Play Store.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with its own watch face, offering a red-coloured night mode.<br /><br />Like most gadgets these days, the watch also comes with AI baked in, allowing you to quickly reply to messages and more.<br /><br />One issue that I faced with the watch is that for some important features such as taking an electrocardiogram (ECG) or getting a blood pressure report, you will need to connect to a Samsung smartphone. These features are not available on other Android smartphones.<br /><br /><h2>Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra features and performance</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is powered by the Exynos W1000 chipset, equipped with a 5-core CPU, which is claimed to offer nearly four times better performance than its predecessor, along with 30% improved power efficiency. The chipset is paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with a new Siren feature, allowing you to hold down the Action Button to enable a loud siren, which can come in handy during emergencies.<br /><br />Samsung has packed the device with features and offers a ton of health tracking sensors. It comes with a new Samsung BioActive Sensor, which includes an optical bio-signal sensor, electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor.<br /><br />The watch also comes with an optical heart rate sensor, a temperature sensor, a light sensor, a geomagnetic sensor and more.<br /><br />For positioning, the Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with L1+LG dual-frequency GPS, offering improved accuracy.<br /><br />The watch accurately offers activity and fitness tracking, making it a great option for those looking for accurate activity tracking in a smartwatch.<br /><br />The watch was also accurately able to track my sleep patterns, along with blood oxygen during sleep, skin temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate. If you track your sleep regularly for seven days, it starts offering more insights about your sleep patterns and also offers recommendations.<br /><br />Another area where Samsung has deployed AI is to determine your energy score. It uses aspects such as sleep time and activity to help you determine your energy levels for the day. It also offers suggestions if any particular thing needs your attention.<br /><br />One of the key health metrics that the watch offers is ECG and BP tracking.<br /><br />The watch offers alerts for abnormally high or low heart rates and can detect irregular heart rhythms that can indicate atrial fibrillation.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra is powered by a 590mAh battery, which is claimed to offer up to 100 hours of battery life with workout detection in power-saving mode.<br /><br />With AOD and regular HR tracking enabled, I managed to squeeze out nearly three days of battery life from the device, which is quite good.<br /><br />Samsung has offered a wireless magnetic charger with the watch and it does not work with regular wireless chargers. It takes nearly 2 hours to charge, so you need to plan accordingly.<br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is a feature-packed watch and is the only such option in the market. While watches from Garmin are packed with health tracking features, they lack the OS that Samsung offers and are not as fun to use.<br /><br />The Galaxy Watch Ultra ticks all the right boxes, including a vibrant display, durable design, excellent health and activity tracking and a decent battery life. During the <keyword id="188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="diwali" source="Orion">Diwali</keyword> festival on October 25, there will be a partial solar eclipse which will be visible from the city as well as from most parts of the country, astrophysicist Debi Prasad Duari said. The eastern metropolis, however, will be able to witness the partial solar eclipse, the second in 2022, for a very small duration, the celestial phenomenon will be better observed in the northern and western regions of the country, he said. <br /><br /> The eclipse will not be observed from northeastern <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> as the celestial phenomenon will be occurring after sunset in those regions, Duari said. <br /><br /> Apart from India, the October 25 partial cosmic affair will be visible from most parts of Europe, northern Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, Duari elaborated. <br /><br /> "The partial solar eclipse will begin in Iceland at around 14:29 hours IST and will be seen at its maximum from Russia at 16:30 hours (IST). It will end at around 18:32 hours (IST) over the Arabian Sea," he told PTI while sharing information on the celestial event. <br /><br /> "The eastern part of the country will see the partial eclipse only marginally, that also during the sunset. The northern and western parts of the country are better locations to observe the partial eclipse with a better view and for a longer period of time."<br /><br /> "During the new <keyword id="42440" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="moon" source="Orion">moon</keyword> (Amavasya) the <keyword id="24879" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sun" source="Orion">Sun</keyword>, Moon and Earth almost come in a linear configuration, whereby from earth we can see the moon without any sunlight falling on it. But at times, as on October 25, the Sun, Moon and Earth will almost be on the same plane resulting in the moon appearing to cover the Sun partially for a period of time causing a partial Solar Eclipse," he explained. <br /><br /> In and around the metropolis, the partial eclipse will begin at around 16:52 hours, the maximum occurring at 17:01 hours, and will cease to be seen at 17:03 hours at the sunset, Duari said. <br /><br /> "Even at the maximum eclipse, only 4 per cent of the lighted disc of the setting Sun will be covered by the Moon," he said. <br /><br /> In the north Bengal town of Siliguri, the celestial phenomenon will be occurring between 16:41 and 16:59 hours and during the maximum eclipse (at around 16:56 hours) about 8.91 per cent of the Sun will be covered by the Moon's disc, Duari stated. <br /><br /> "In New Delhi, it will commence at around 16:29 hours and end with the sunset at 18:09 hours with the maximum eclipse to occur at 17:42 hours when the Sun will be obscured by the Moon by an amount of only 24.5 per cent," Duari said. <br /><br /> Jaisalmer in Rajasthan will experience the eclipse from 16:26 hours to 18:09 hours with the maximum at around 17:30 hours. when the disc of the Sun will be obscured by 42.5 per cent. <br /><br /> "In Mumbai, the eclipse will begin at 16:49 hours with the maximum occurring at around 17:42 hours. It will end at 18:09 hours when the Sun appears to go down the Arabian Sea at sunset. Here, the Sun's disc will be covered by about 24.5 per cent," he added. <br /><br /> In southern and central India, the eclipse will be again observed just before sunset with Nagpur experiencing the eclipse from 16:49 to 17:42 hours. In Bengaluru, the eclipse will begin at 17:12 hours, reaching its maximum at 17:49 hours and ending at 17:55 hours during sunset. Chennai will have the eclipse from 17:14 to 17:44 hours, the astrophysicist said. <br /><br /> The next major solar eclipse to be visible from India will be an annular eclipse on May 21, 2031, when the annularity can be observed from a narrow patch of land in south India, he said. <br /><br /> Three years later, on March 20, 2034, the next total solar eclipse will be visible from India and the totality will be observed from the northernmost part of Kashmir. <br /><br /> On both occasions, the whole country will observe a partial eclipse of varying magnitude depending upon its geographical location, Duari said. <br /><br /> Another partial eclipse can be seen from the northern part of India on June 1, 2030. <br /><br /> Referring to the harm caused to the eyes by Sun's rays during an eclipse, Duari cautioned the sky enthusiasts to take "extreme precaution" while observing it. <br /><br /> "Even if the degree of the partial eclipse is not appreciable in most of the country, extreme precaution has to be taken by everybody who wants to observe this cosmic event.
