Car makers in India are quickly making a paradigm shift in their technologies and models in order to ensure compliance with the <keyword id="3165424" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="BS-VI-norms">BS VI norms</keyword>. Bharat Stage Emission norms call for widespread measures to implemented by the vehicle makers so that the pollution levels are minimized as per the new standards and also the cars are fitted with pollutant filtering systems and onboard diagnostics (OBD) mechanisms to ensure that while operating in real time on the roads, the vehicles do not exceed the pollutant emission levels noted during laboratory testing. <p>For the first time in Apple's history, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-has-its-best-iphone-line-ever-2014-9">it has a genuinely diverse iPhone line</a>. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">It is selling an iPhone 5C, 5S, 6, and 6 Plus. And all four phones are very good.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p>This means consumers in the market for an iPhone have a tough decision to make when it comes to which phone to purchase.&#xa0;</p>
<p>Since <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/iphone-6-preorder-date-us-time-2014-9">preorders start Friday</a>, I decided to put together this guide to help anyone in the market for a new phone.&#xa0;</p>
<p>Before digging into the current phones, let's talk about you. How rich are you? If money is no object, then you can skip the following section and just read about the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. If money <em>is&#xa0;</em>an object, then read on.&#xa0;</p>
<h2>WHAT PHONE DO YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW?</h2>

<p>Do you have an iPhone 4S or earlier? If the answer is yes, then you should definitely get a new iPhone.&#xa0;</p>
<p>If you have an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S, and the phone is in good condition, you may not need to upgrade. The iPhone 5S is an excellent phone. The only drawback is that it has a smaller screen. If a bigger screen is really important to you, then you should upgrade. But if you're happy with the 5S, then you should hold out for another year. Next year's iPhone 6S will be better than the iPhone 6.&#xa0;</p>
<p>If you have an iPhone 5 and you're on a contract and you're eligible for an upgrade, then you should probably get a new phone. You can <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/best-iphone-trade-in-deals-best-buy-amazon-gazelle-2014-9">sell your iPhone 5 on Craigslist, or eBay, for ~$200</a>, which effectively makes the cost of upgrading $0.</p>
<p>If you're not on a contract, then it's a bit more complicated. The iPhone 5 is a good phone that should still be working fine. If you don't yearn for a bigger screen, then you can probably squeeze another year out of the phone. (And, again, next year's iPhone is going to be better.)&#xa0;</p>
<p>What if you - gasp - have an Android phone? Apple CEO Tim Cook says <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apples-tim-cook-just-ripped-android-to-shreds-2014-6">you'll have "a better life" if you get an iPhone</a>. That's a bit strong, but you will get a better selection of apps. A friend of mine who owns an Android phone was pestering me over Labor Day to write a story about how Android owners don't get new features for apps until long after iPhone owners.&#xa0;</p>
<p>I like the iPhone and iOS better than Android. But, it's a matter of taste. If you're happy with Android, then stick with it. If you hate Android, then now is a good time to bail since Apple has bigger phones with better features.</p>
<p>With that out of the way, let's explore the iPhone options. One thing to note: I have not used these phones. I have used every iPhone design since it was released and they've all been pretty good. I have tested all sorts of Android phones at various screen sizes, so I have a good idea about what you'll be getting from Apple.</p>
<h2>SHOULD YOU BUY THE IPHONE 6 PLUS?</h2>

<p>The iPhone 6 Plus is the most expensive phone in the lineup. The entry level model is $299 on a two-year contract.</p>
<p>It's also the biggest with a 5.5-inch screen. It has the highest resolution screen too. Apple is using the large screen to offer unique software options like a keyboard that has dedicated keys for copy and paste and new display options for content. It also has a bigger battery and slightly longer battery life than other iPhones.</p>
<p>The iPhone 6 Plus is the phone I plan to buy. A few years ago I got a Samsung Note II at a Samsung event. It has a 5.5-inch screen. At first, I was inclined to dismiss the phone as too big and goofy. But the more I used it, the more I fell in love with the big screen.</p>
<p><span>If you're the sort of person that lives on your phone, then you should get the iPhone 6 Plus.&#xa0;</span>I use my phone from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. I check email and Twitter on it constantly. I do a lot of reading on my phone. My iPhone is a mini-computer and so I want a big screen.&#xa0;<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">I currently have an iPad Mini, and I think I'm going to sell the iPad Mini and go all-in on the big iPhone.</span></p>
<p>When you hold the phone to your head to make a call you might look funny, but so what? How many calls do you&#xa0;<em>really&#xa0;</em>make? Personally, I use headphones half the time I make calls, so this isn't that big of a deal.</p>
<p>Two other concerns people have about the big phone: Is it too big for my hands, and is too big for my pockets? Let's tackle those in reverse order.</p>
<p>The phone fits in your pocket, no problem. Because this is Apple, the phone is thinner than thin, so it won't be too bulky. However, it is going to be a bit large. Personally, my phone is often out of my pockets. If I'm at work, I have it on my desk. If I am on the train, I am holding it, using. If I am in a car, I use it for maps and directions. If I am at home on the couch, I usually have it out to surf the web while watching TV. If this sounds like you, then it's no biggie. But, if you keep your phone in your pocket all the time, it might be a problem. My colleague Steve Kovach tested the iPhone 6 Plus at the Apple event on Tuesday and said it fit in his jeans pocket perfectly.</p>
<p>As for hand size... that could be a problem! There is no question that a bigger phone is going to be harder to maneuver. If you're really worried about this, go to the Apple Store when the phones are out and try picking up the 6 Plus. If it's too much, it's too much. I'm over 6 feet tall, and I guess, have hands that correspond with that size. I don't think the bigger phone is much of a problem. Sometimes it will be clunky, but life is a series of trade offs, I think it's the bigger screen is worth it.&#xa0;</p>
<p>Both new iPhones also have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-how-apple-makes-using-a-giant-phone-easy-with-one-hand-2014-9">a special one-handed mode</a> that pops the top portion of the screen down so you can reach it with your thumb. You just lightly tap the home button twice to do it:</p>

<p>The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen, which is probably the best screen size for most people. It's not too big, and it's not too small. The entry-level iPhone 6 costs $199 with a two-year contract. If you're due for an upgrade, and you want the next model of the iPhone, this probably the phone you should buy.&#xa0;</p>
<p>The iPhone 6 has a new A8 chip, which Apple says is faster than last year's A7 chip. It has an M8 chip, which tracks your motion to keep track of steps. It also has a barometer, so it can tell how high you've gone, counting stairs you've climbed.&#xa0;<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The camera is also upgraded, likely making it the best smartphone camera on the market.&#xa0;</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Of course, all of this is on the iPhone 6 Plus, too.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">There's two reasons to go with the iPhone 6 over the 6 Plus - price and screen size. If you want to save a little money, and you don't want the bigger screen, then this is the phone for you.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The only other difference between the 6 or 6 Plus besides screen size is the camera. The iPhone 6 Plus camera has better video stabilization than the iPhone 6. It's a minor feature that most people won't really notice or care about, but probably something you should know if you plan to shoot a lot of video.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>Bottom line:</strong> The iPhone 6 is the replacement for the iPhone 5S. If you just want the latest greatest iPhone, with no compromises, then this is the phone for you. Don't buy it if you want a giant screen, or if you like the current size of the iPhone.</span></p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Apple will be selling the iPhone 5S for $99 with a two-year contract. The iPhone 5S is a great phone. Unlike in year's past, it doesn't feel like the 5S is significantly worse than the phone that's replacing it. The 5S has a fingerprint scanner and a motion tracker, just like the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is slightly faster, and its motion tracker is slightly better, but it doesn't seem like it's&#xa0;<em>that&#xa0;</em>big of a deal. The camera on the iPhone 6 is slightly better, but not significantly so.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">If you don't want a big screen, and you'd like to save some money, the iPhone 5S is the phone for you. It's a really good phone, and if you use a 5S for the next 2-3 years, you won't be let down.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>Bottom line:</strong> Buy the iPhone 5S if you don't want a big screen. Don't buy it if you do want the big screen.</span></p>
<h2><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">SHOULD YOU BUY THE IPHONE 5C?&#xa0;</span></h2>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The iPhone 5C is a very good entry-level phone. It has a 4-inch screen. It doesn't have any of the bells or whistles of the other models. If you are on a limited budget, you want a small screen, or you like colors, then this is the phone for you. It's $0 with a two-year contract, and it works pretty well.&#xa0;</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The risk is that it's going to be obsolete in a few years. If you plan to have the phone for the next 2-3 years, then it's worth paying $100-$200 for a better phone. If you don't use your phone much, or your just want a hold over for a year or two, then get the 5C. In yellow. Be bold!</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>Bottom line:</strong> If you don't have much money, or don't care about screen sizes, or you don't care about the latest features, get this one.</span></p>
<h2><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">WHAT COLOR AND WHAT LEVEL OF STORAGE?</span></h2>

These things are great for taking photos and video. Unfortunately that stuff takes up a lot of storage space, so it's worth paying the extra $100 to get the space.</span></p>

<h2>How much do you want to spend?</h2>
<p>Most of the best Android phones will cost just as much as the iPhone, but there are a few less expensive options you can also consider. If you're willing to pay $199 (with a two-year contract), Samsung's Galaxy S5 and the new HTC One are both strong options.</p>
<p>They're both drastically different in terms of design and software (which we'll get into later), but if you're willing to pay the price, both phones come with top-of-the-line hardware, including the newest processors, high quality camera,s and beautiful, high-res screens. </p>

It's hardware is out-of-date when compared to phone like the Galaxy S5 or new HTC One, but it's a great choice for fans of stock Android.</p>
<p>The Moto X comes with a simple version of Android that's not cluttered with extraneous features, and there's a natural language processor inside for improved voice recognition. </p>
<p>With the Moto X, you can simply say "Ok Google" and issue a command without even having to touch your device or activate the screen. Verizon, AT&amp;T, and Sprint are all offering the Moto X for free on a two-year contract. </p>
<p>If you're looking to avoid commitment to a two-year carrier contract and really want to save cash, check out the Moto G. It's basically a scaled-down version of the Moto X, and it starts at $179 for 8GB of storage unlocked. The internal components aren't as advanced as today's Android flagships (naturally), but you still get the benefit of a clean Android experience and timely software updates for next to nothing. </p>
<h2>What kind of software do you prefer?</h2>

It determines how you interact with your phone, what you can do with it and how easy it is to use. Although the basic characteristics of Android are the same across devices, smartphone manufacturers usually overlay their own custom skin that changes the interface and adds extra features.</p>
<p>If you're looking for the simplest, stripped down interface, you'll want to look for a phone running stock Android. This means you should take a look at the Nexus 5, the Moto X, or the Google Play version of the new HTC One. The Moto X doesn't come with pure Android, but it's pretty close to it. </p>

Samsung's TouchWiz overlay lets you do a little more with your phone.</p>
<p>For example, Samsung has a power-saving mode that can get you several extra hours of battery life, even if your battery is down to ~5%.</p>
<p>The disadvantage here, however, is that Samsung often loads its phones with bloatware and apps that you never really end up using. The company has toned that down significantly with the Galaxy S5 compared to its previous handsets, but it's still not quite as clean as stock Android.</p>
<p>The new HTC One is kind of a medium between stock and skinned Android. It uses HTC's Sense overlay, which isn't as prominent as TouchWiz. The major differences between stock Android and Sense is the addition of BlinkFeed, a home screen option that presents updates from your social media and news feeds in a tiled format. The app drawer is also a bit different since by default you scroll up and down to breeze through apps rather than from left to right. HTC's software doesn't come with as many features as Samsung's, but it's a bit easier to navigate. </p>
<h2>How big do you want it?</h2>

<p>But for those who need a phone with an even larger screen, Samsung's 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 is your best option. Not only is it a super light phone for its size, but Samsung's TouchWiz software is optimized for the S Pen stylus that comes with it. This means that you'll be able to do more than just use the stylus to navigate your phone since Samsung has an entire menu of features and apps just for the S Pen. </p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>When shopping for a new Android smartphone, ask yourself how much you're willing to spend, what kind of software experience you prefer and how big of a screen you need. If you're willing to spend some money and are looking for an average-sized Android phone with a stunning display, quality camera and don't mind Samsung's proprietary software, the Galaxy S5 is the way to go.</p>
<p>The new HTC One is a close runner up, but we prefer the Galaxy S5 since you get a bit more for your money. The S5 comes with an embedded fingerprint sensor in the home button just like the iPhone 5s, and it's also capable of monitoring your heart rate.</p>
<p>Those looking to save some cash should consider the Moto X- it's an attractive, slightly smaller phone with internals powerful enough to handle everyday tasks and powerful voice controls. </p>

The iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7: Which one should you buy?

<p><div class="image-container float_right" style="width:480px"><div class="image"><p class="source">GM</p><p class="caption">GM is getting into the <keyword id="6356109" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="diesel">diesel</keyword> market with a version of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.</p></div></div>Diesel engines, long reputed for being loud and dirty, are making waves in the U.S. Although they accounted for just 3.2% of U.S. auto sales in 2012 (about the same as hybrids), the number of diesels on American roads will double by 2018, according to research firm LMC Automotive.</p>
<p>Automakers like <keyword id="6363321" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Audi">Audi</keyword>, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even GM are both fueling and benefiting from that growth, and the number of diesel models available to American buyers will triple to 60 by the end of 2017, an LMC analyst says.</p>
<p>Here are 10 reasons you should buy one:</p>
<p><strong>1. Diesel is no longer dirty or loud.</strong></p>
<p>Thanks to new engine technology and the mandatory transition to ultra-low sulfur diesel, today's diesel <keyword id="20632" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cars">cars</keyword> run quietly, and don’t spew black smoke all over the road.</p>
<p><strong>2. More power. </strong></p>
<p>There’s a reason trucks run on diesel: The fuel provides more torque, which means more towing power and more power off the line. Audi’s new 3-liter TDI diesel engine (used in the A6 and A7) produces 428 pound-feet of torque. The 3-liter TFSI gasoline engine generates 325 pound-feet.</p>
<p><strong>3. Germans do it.</strong></p>
<p>In 2011, diesel car sales made up for 51.8% of the European market, <a href="http://www1.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels/facts/2012_fotw716.html" target="_blank">according to the U.S. Department of Energy</a>. In Germany, 41.9% of cars sold that year ran on diesel. If nearly half of German car buyers — who have access to the Autobahn — are willing to give up on gas, Americans should consider following suit.</p>
<p><strong>4. Diesel cars hold their value better than gasoline cars. </strong></p>
<p>According <a href="https://www.alg.com/the-diesels-are-coming/" target="_blank">to research firm ALG</a>, compact diesels held 63% of their value after 36 months. For gasoline cars, the number was 53%. Hybrids, 55%.</p>
<p>Alec Gutierrez, a senior market analyst at KBB, said that’s partly because there are fewer diesel cars on the market, so used ones command higher prices. They are also “tremendously fuel efficient,” Gutierrez said, a big selling point when gas prices are so high. “Demand is outpacing supply,” he noted.</p>
<p><strong>5. The EPA doesn’t overestimate their efficiency.</strong></p>
<p>Last week, Ford (voluntarily) <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ford-lowers-mpg-claims-for-c-max-hybrid-2013-8" target="_blank">dropped its estimated fuel economy for the C-Max Hybrid</a> to 43 mpg, after EPA testing showed it didn’t meet the claimed 47 mpg mark. In March, some C-Max and Ford Fusion Hybrid owners <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ford-is-being-sued-over-high-fuel-economy-claims-2013-3" target="_blank">filed a class-action lawsuit against the automaker</a>, claiming they had been cheated by false mileage claims.</p>
<p>But when we test drove three of Audi’s new diesel models (the A6, A7, and Q5), we beat the EPA’s estimate each time — and by nearly 10 mpg on the A7.</p>

<p><strong>6. You go to the pump a lot less often.</strong></p>
<p>Diesel may cost more than regular gasoline (about $0.24 more per gallon, <a href="http://fuelgaugereport.aaa.com/?redirectto=http://fuelgaugereport.opisnet.com/index.asp" target="_blank">per AAA’s current figures</a>) but it’s much richer in energy — between 25% and 30% richer. The new BMW 328d (d for diesel) gets better mileage than the gas-powered Smart fortwo coupe. And it produces 180 horsepower, compared to the Smart’s measly 70.</p>
<p><strong>7. If you’re buying a fancy car, diesel fuel isn’t actually more expensive.</strong></p>
<p>The current national average price for premium gasoline is $3.866/gallon. For diesel, it’s $3.876/gallon. So for anyone driving a luxury ride, gas costs just as much, and you need a lot more of it.</p>
<p><strong>8. The price premium over a gasoline car is lower than for a hybrid or electric car.</strong></p>
<p>Per figures from LMC Automotive, cars running on diesel cost $2,500 more than the cars with a gasoline internal combustion engine, on average. For a hybrid, the difference is $4,100. For a fully electric car, it’s $13,000.</p>
<p>All three types of vehicles will save you money on gas, but you'll overpay the least for the diesel.</p>
<p><strong>9. It’s easy to find a place to fill up.</strong></p>
<p>The big problem with electric cars is that the public charging infrastructure is just beginning to be built. But because diesel has been a common fuel for trucks for decades, it’s available at more than 50% of American gas stations.</p>
<p><strong>10. Diesels win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.</strong></p>
<p>Since 2006, every car to win the famous endurance race — the Audi R10 TDI, Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, Audi R15 TDI plus, Audi R18 TDI, and Audi R18 e-tron quattro — burned diesel on the way to first place.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Kelly Stumpe, known as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-family-cars-kids-buying-tips-the-car-mom-2023-6">The Car Mom</a>, regularly posts reviews of family cars to Instagram.</li><li>Stumpe told Insider that many parents, particularly first-time moms, rush into buying the wrong vehicle.</li></ul><p>Buying a car for a family can be daunting.</p><p>Beyond the all-important factors like safety ratings and reliability, there are countless features to consider that can make a big difference on the road. These include seating arrangements that fit your needs (and potentially your car seats); storage space for all the kid gear you regularly haul; and perks for back-seat riders like charging ports, built-in sun shades, and extra vents.</p><p>Even after you <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-family-cars-kids-buying-tips-the-car-mom-2023-6">find the right car</a>, your needs could change as your family grows. </p><p>That's why Kelly Stumpe, a former car salesperson who runs the educational car-buying site <a href="https://www.thecarmomofficial.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Car Mom</a>, often advises families to lease vehicles instead of buying.</p><p>In the past, "Leasing was so big and it was something I always recommended for growing families, just for the simple fact that you don't know how quickly your family's going to grow," Stumpe told Insider in an interview. "Typically, I'm a big fan of leasing for growing families or just delaying the purchase as often as you can."</p><h2>Why young families should delay car purchases</h2><p>Pre-pandemic, leasing accounted for about <a href="https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-insights/leasing-decline-has-short-term-and-long-term-implications/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">30% of all new vehicle retail sales.</a> But <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/used-vehicle-prices-inventory-dealerships-pandemic-car-buyers-leasing-payments-2023-1">leasing popularity has since declined</a>, now making up only about half that, or 15% to 20% of new car sales.</p><p>Car shoppers have become more sensitive to higher prices amid the economic slowdown, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/used-car-buyers-pricing-inventory-average-age-vehicle-on-roads-2023-5">many are holding onto their vehicles for longer</a>.</p><p>But for growing families, using the same car for a three-year period — the length of most leases — might make more sense than buying, Stumpe said.</p><p>"Parents, especially first-time moms, might upgrade their Corolla to a Hyundai Santa Fe and they think this is it. What families quickly find out is family needs change very quickly," said Stumpe, who regularly posts family car reviews to her 422,000 Instagram followers. "I had three kids in four years. The car that worked in 2019 versus the car that works in 2023 are significantly different. I was driving a Nissan Rogue in 2019 and now I'm in a Ford Expedition."</p><p>Stumpe said families often rush into buying a car that they are hoping to drive forever.</p><p>"So many people try to buy that ride-or-die family vehicle before their first child thinking they're going to keep it for forever," she added. "They just do not realize either how many kids they want to have, how quickly those kids are going to come, and how much room kids actually need."</p>

Why families should lease a car instead of buying

<p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/life-plan"></div><p></p></div>Cars are the classic example of a depreciating asset.</p>
<p>You shell out a not-insignificant amount of money (over <a href="http://autos.aol.com/article/who-can-afford-the-average-car-price-only-folks-in-washington/">$30,000 on average</a>), and your car starts losing value once it leaves the dealership, never again worth what you paid for it.</p>
<p>Knowing that, it's unsurprising that leasing - renting a car from the dealer for a set period of time - is <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/industry-center/commentary/autoeconomy-trends-leasing-goes-mainstream.html">gaining steam</a>. </p>
<p>When you lease, it doesn't matter that your car is losing value. In a few years, you return it to the dealership and grab a new one instead.</p>
<p>Granted, if you're really looking to save cash, buying a used car from a reputable source is usually the best cost-savings option overall.</p>
<p>But the lure of a new ride is hard to resist.</p>
<p>For that reason, both of the options in the flow chart below address procuring a new car. Buying a used car is a whole separate story.</p>

<p><strong>The bottom line on buying:</strong> The car you buy is yours, to sell, total, or drive for two decades as you'd like. Yes, it won't be worth as much as you paid for it when you're done, but overall, buying usually costs less than leasing and provides you with more flexibility.</p>

<p><strong>The bottom line on leasing:</strong> Leasing allows you to drive more car than you can afford, although it will usually cost you more over the long run than a car that you buy and drive for a decade, and have more fees and restrictions. </p>
<p>Leased cars, which allow you to regularly upgrade your car to the shiniest, most technologically advanced model every few years, usually have lower monthly payments, but impose fees for things like returning the car in anything less than impeccable condition or driving more than your annual mile allowance. If you want or need the latest model every couple of years, leasing provides a convenient way to make that happen.</p>
<p><span>Note, however, that there is one case in which leasing a car can be particularly cost effective: Leased cars used for business can be </span><a href="http://www.irs.gov/publications/p463/ch04.html#en_US_2010_publink100034045">deducted from your taxes</a><span>.</span></p>
<h3>There's one more option: lease to buy.</h3>
<p>Leasing to buy means that at the end of your lease, you'll buy the car based on its "residual value," or what the dealer estimates it's now worth.</p>
<p>If you love your car (or you like it fine, and don't want to pay the fees you've incurred by damaging it or driving way too much), you can compare the residual value your dealer gives you and the car's objective market value, which is available through tools like <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/how-to-use-tmv.html">Edmunds' True Market Value tool</a>.</p>
<p>If the offer to buy your car is less than its market value, and you want to keep your car, you can often buy out your lease for a reasonably good deal.</p>
