They are required to register grievance complaints within 24 hours and address the issue within a space of 15 days. This will include how many complaints were received, how they were investigated, and how they were resolved at the end of the day. “The chief compliance officer to be appointed under the guidelines may be personally liable in case of any non-compliance of IT Act or any rules,” noted Rajat Prakash, a partner at law firm Athena Legal. The toughest rule of all puts WhatsApp in a spot Whether it is fake news or any objectionable content, the government wants the social media platforms as well messaging apps to be able to track down the ‘first originator’. “This first originator is not about the content, it's about who began the instigation,” explained Prasad. “If it started outside of India, they will have to track down who started the mischief within India.” The request to share this information will be mandated either by a court order or executive order by the government of India. It will also only apply to instances where the penalty (if the person is found guilty) exceeds five years. This includes instances where there is any violation with respect to the sovereignty or integrity of India, the security of the state, public order, relations with foreign states, and rape or sexually explicit content. “Further tracing of the originator of messages on messaging applications could lead to violation of privacy rights and fall foul of privacy laws of countries outside India and end to end encryption of messages will make it tough for messaging applications to comply,” noted Prakash. Even though WhatsApp does not have a specific response to the government's new guidelines, Facebook told Business Insider that they welcome the new rules. "Facebook is an ally for India and the agenda of user safety and security is a critical one for our platforms," it told Business Insider in a statement. Aadhaar or phone number for social media The Indian government wants social media platforms to set up some sort of verification mechanism for its users for identification citing Aadhar or mobile numbers are possible methods. “If there is any unlawful information on your platform, by court order or government of India, you will have to disable access of the user,” said Prasad, adding that it is for the platform to decide whether they want to use the person’s mobile numbers or Aadhaar (unique identity number given by the government). I think we were able to create such a presence because we're consistent, there's no 'off' button for Pop Crave." <h2>In 2018, Cosme began rercruiting writers for volunteer work</h2>As Pop Crave gained more influence and momentum, Johnson and Cosme enlisted their mutual friend Jericho Capio to join the team, but "80% of the work" still fell on Cosme. "I don't see myself applying for jobs at a place like Billboard or Rolling Stone or Vulture in this media environment with the pandemic," he says. "The most I've ever been paid to write (outside of PopCrave, to be clear) was about $75 dollars a week. I don't want to put my trust in major (and trashy) corporations anymore, we want to start our own thing." Pop Crave stands out from these outlets, Howard believes, since its shortcomings have become its strengths. "Because most of our news is in tweet form, and not an article that requires you to click on it, we are providing more information in our captions." In other words, Pop Crave isn't clickbait, according to its staff.<a href="https://twitter.com/paulbridgewater">Paul Bridgewater</a>, who has a background in marketing, and is the current editor-in-chief of independent music website The Line Of Best Fit, views Pop Crave a little less generously. "Everyone who's producing content is complicit in the grey areas around clickbait," he says, "but there's a line that's often crossed." No matter how careful the journalist's phrasing, nor how neutrally presenting, entertainment news is almost always likely to elicit a reaction. "The goal of journalism, as I was taught, is to communicate a message that's straightforward, free of bias, fact-checked and easily digestible," says Drew. "Over half a million users trust us enough to get their info on our page, so if that's not journalism, I don't know what is."<h2>'Pop Crave has less to do with journalism than it does online fandom'</h2><div type="image" title="kpop oz ateez crowd fans" height="1499" width="3000" msid="79178459" hostid="261"></div><a href="https://twitter.com/noyokono">Gary Suarez</a>, who has worked as a <keyword id="278613" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Freelance">freelance</keyword> music journalist for almost two decades, writing for the New York Times, NPR, and Forbes, among others, believes Pop Crave has less to do with journalism than it does with online fandom. "It's a disruptor that has zero interest in journalism, preferring instead to appeal to the fans and stans scrolling on social," he said. "It doesn't exist as a replacement for music journalism, because that wrongly implies its followers were people who'd also, or were it to disappear, instead read music journalism."Suarez has had Pop Crave blocked on Twitter for a while now, after noticing that it sometimes pulled content from other publications "without the professional decency of crediting or linking." Some staff agree that Pop Crave's reporting is more aligned with internet fandom culture. "I'm not sure how to summarize exactly how we fact check," says Howard, "but a lot of it comes from a basic understanding of Stan Twitter. We're good at sniffing out what's fake and what's real just from our experience on the platform. There are also platforms like Reddit and ATRL that help us, as well as the thousands of stan accounts that are doing their own version of reporting." But Cosme is adamant that Pop Crave fact checks just like any other major organization would. " Our credibility and reputation are important," he says.One credibility campaign the group is embarking on is trying to get verified on Twitter. Since Pop Crave's content is so inimitable, numerous <a href="https://twitter.com/PopCrrave">parody accounts</a> have emerged on Twitter, with the same cartoon Marilyn Monroe icon. "We run into these daily, and to be honest, it's frustrating and distracting," says Will. According to a Twitter spokesperson, the website has "paused public submissions for verification. However, our teams around the world continue to work closely with trusted partners to verify select accounts." The team is also developing a podcast, which they hope will bring in a steady cash flow. Perhaps most notably, Pop Crave gained attention for being one of the first outlets (at nearly the same time as Insider) to call the 2020 presidential election in the US for Joe Biden, via Decision Desk HQ. There's Tweetbot, to help him scour Twitter better, Uber, for zipping around Los Angeles, Google Maps, and Google Authenticator, for double verification of Google accounts. Those are pretty normal.
For chatting, he has a slew of messaging services including group texting service GroupMe, Tango for voice and video calls, cross platform messaging service Whatsapp and Skype. Those are also pretty normal.
More surprisingly, there's another LA-based consumer app on his phone, Tinder. Tinder is like hot-or-not for people around you based on their Facebook profile pictures, and it has experienced explosive growth over the past year. Spiegel is either finding dates on it or scoping out competition.
His job is busy and has him flying all over, so Spiegel also has a lot of apps to fight boredom. He recently paid for JetLag Geniue to help him recover from jet lag. When he needs a laugh, he opens Instant Buttons, which make noises when pressed. Lumosity is an app with brain teasers that "make him smarter" in his downtime. He also uses a DJ app, Crossfader.
Although he's a young, recent graduate, he asks his younger sister which apps she uses to stay up to speed. One on her radar is "Can I Stream.it." Spiegel thinks the vertical search engine for videos is "genius."
