Now, according to a report, younger couples are opting for smaller, simpler events with truncated guest lists. Over 33% of millennial and Gen Z couples want a smaller gathering on their big day, according to a survey report by <keyword id="12099477" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="WeddingWire-India" source="Orion">WeddingWire India</keyword>, a wedding technology platform. The new normal is to keep it between 100 to 250 guests, down from above 400 on an average. During the pandemic, many states had placed restrictions on guest lists – in some cases 50 and above – bringing forth the concept of small weddings. In most cases, couples start booking wedding services three months before the date. The survey says that 44% of couples start making reservations anywhere between one to three months before the big day. And, 15% surveyed said that they are booking wedding venues only a month prior to the wedding. Over 21% of the vendors get their leads from wedding websites and apps followed by social media which is at 20.8%. “WedTech platforms are gaining popularity and becoming the key source of leads for wedding vendors,” said Anam Zubair, head of marketing, WeddingWire India. New age couples now also want to be the decision makers in their wedding arrangements. Around 39% of the couples also want to handle the payments for their big day, moving away from the old tradition of the father of the bride throwing the wedding party. Last year during the Nov-Dec timeline 32 lakh weddings happened. Just 1-2 years of bad market doesn't impact this number that much,” says Kumar. Also, with a shorter wedding season in November- December, the prices may have gone up, or there could be a large demand supply mismatch. Further, 6 lakhs weddings will cost ₹25 lakhs per wedding, 50 thousand weddings will have ₹50 lakhs expenditure per wedding and 50 thousand weddings will be such in which ₹1 crore or more money will be spent. Wedding expenses generally follow a 80:20 rule. Venues for weddings, including banquet halls, hotels, open lawns, community centres, public parks, and farmhouses, are prepared across the country. Besides purchasing accessories for each wedding, various services play a crucial role.
