<br /><ul><li><keyword id="6355629" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword> is going to go from city to city to train content creators in India on how to localise their portals in Indian languages.<br /></li><li>The Silicon Valley tech giant is looking to build whole online ecosystems around local content. <br /></li><li>Google executives from Search and <keyword id="825834" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="AdSense">AdSense</keyword> will also be present at the event. <br /></li></ul>Google’s set to groom content providers in the Indian market with its <a href="https://india.googleblog.com/2019/05/announcing-webmaster-conference-india.html">Webmaster Conference </a>that kicks off on June 17, and is open to anyone who wishes to participate. <br /><br />The Silicon Valley tech giant is hosting workshops across 15 cities in five Indian languages — Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu — along with English. <br /><br />Google has been very clear of its impetus on localization from the very beginning. Google is going local by grooming Indian content providers

You turn it on, and as you surf the web, your browser sends a little bit of metadata to websites telling them not to track you. It's supposed to help protect user privacy, and it was proposed back in 2009 by pro-privacy researchers. </p><p>But now, Apple, which says <a href="https://www.apple.com/privacy/">privacy</a> is one of its values, is removing Do Not Track from its web browser, Safari.</p><p>Turns out, it's not because Apple wants to have fewer privacy features in its browser - it's because Do Not Track doesn't really do anything, <a href="https://gizmodo.com/apple-is-removing-do-not-track-from-safari-1832400768">according to Gizmodo</a>, and may actually even make things worse. </p><p>From the latest <a href="https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safari_release_notes/safari_12_1_release_notes">Safari release notes</a>: </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safari_release_notes/safari_12_1_release_notes">Apple.com</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"Potential use as a fingerprinting variable" suggests that some advertisers or scammers could use that setting as a way to track your browsing across devices or websites - the opposite of how the feature is intended. </p><p>Another reason why Apple is removing Do Not Track is because it's "expired." The project ended last month, <a href="https://gizmodo.com/apple-is-removing-do-not-track-from-safari-1832400768">according to Gizmodo</a>, after facing years of weak support and sometimes resistance from big internet companies <a href="https://www.wired.com/2011/04/chrome-do-not-track/">like Google</a>. </p><p>Apple is also working on its own privacy features in Safari, including new features to make it harder for advertisers to fingerprint or identify each user with an individual tracking number. Apple is killing the 'Do Not Track' setting in Safari because it could be used as a way to track people

Exactly what that means for search, has so far not been very clear.</p><p>The change will happen within months, Google's webmaster trend analyst Gary Illyes <a href="http://searchengineland.com/google-divide-index-giving-mobile-users-better-fresher-content-261037">told Search Engine Land</a>. </p><p>Google regularly makes changes to its index, but this is a particularly big one. The mobile index will be the "primary" index and will be kept more up-to-date than the desktop index. This means that - for the same search - the results you see on a smartphone will be different to what you see on a desktop. </p><p>Jennifer Slegg, founder of search expert site <a href="http://www.thesempost.com/">The SEM Post</a> and Lisa Barone, CMO of <a href="http://overit.com/">web design agency Overit</a> - attended <a href="http://www.pubcon.com/">the Pubcon conference</a> where Google announced the change in the keynote address. They explained to Business Insider exactly how they expect the change to impact search results. </p><p>Google wants users to stop experiencing an inferior search experience on a smartphone. By prioritising a mobile index, the search giant is effectively asking site owners to stop putting smartphones second by simplifying their mobile site.</p><h2>Right now Google only lists desktop sites in its index</h2><p>Up until now, and before the change is implemented, Google only lists desktop websites in its index. As <a href="http://overit.com/blog/google-announces-shift-toward-mobile-first-indexing">explained by Overit's Janae Quackenbus</a>, who also attended the conference, "Google has historically 'crawled' the desktop version of a site". Crawling is a term used to describe the process of Google visiting websites to then file them away in its index. </p><p>So when you search on a smartphone, Google returns your result as if you are on a desktop, even though what it shows you - and what you click on - is a list of mobile sites. </p><p>That wouldn't be a problem if the content on a mobile site was exactly the same as the content on the desktop site. But in a lot of cases, it's not. </p><p>In the effort to make their websites load quicker on a mobile (which Google <a href="http://overit.com/blog/google-announces-shift-toward-mobile-first-indexing">said does not work</a>), a lot of site owners "strip down" the amount of content on their mobile site. Strip down means to remove words and pages, simplifying the site - usually with the format "m.example.com" -  IMDb is an example. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>IMDB</span></p><p class="caption">IMDb's desktop website (left), and mobile version (right).</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Google doesn't want site owners to strip down their sites for mobile, and that's the crux of why the change is happening. </p><h2>Google is targeting 'stripped down' mobile websites</h2><p>After Google splits its index, when you search on a smartphone, the search engine won't refer to the "full" desktop site when determining what results to give you. Instead, it will refer to the stripped down mobile site in a separate mobile index. With less content, the stripped down mobile site will show up in fewer search results. </p><p>Not all websites have stripped down their mobile sites, and therefore won't be affected. If a website has a responsive design - where the content is the same but it loads to fit the screen size of each device - the index split should not have any impact at all. </p><p>The move makes sense when you consider that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/more-people-now-search-google-on-their-phone-than-from-their-computers-2015-10">mobile is the dominant choice over desktop for search</a>. And it's not just search - 61% of online retail sales came from mobile devices in the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> in the first half of 2016, according to Criteo's <a href="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=http://www.criteo.com/resources/mobile-commerce-report/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1477642856332000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFqp45OVlBM1G7sYVJkciveuCGpOA">State of Mobile Commerce Report</a>. </p><p>As Barone said to Business Insider, "Google's shift to prioritize mobile over desktop follows user behavior to do the very same. Mobile devices are no longer secondary devices; they are the primary device". </p><p>RBC analyst Mark Mahaney told Business Insider, "I think the broad point is that we are multiple years now into the 'Mobile Revolution'. Google is splitting its search index to target 'stripped down' mobile websites

<p>The deal, first reported by Re/Code, <a href="http://recode.net/2014/05/28/apple-buys-beats-for-3-billion/" target="_blank">will close by the end of September</a>. </p>
<p>Beats Electronics cofounders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will join the company as full-time employees.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The acquisition seems to suggest that Apple is getting way more serious about the music business. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Last year, </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pandora-v-itunes-revenues-2014-3" target="_blank">revenues from permanent digital downloads, like albums and songs you can purchase on iTunes, declined 1% last year to $2.8 billion</a><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">.</span></p>
<p><span>When rumors of the deal first surfaced, a lot of people were baffled as to why Apple wanted to buy the company. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">After all, Beats makes headphones whose sound quality is panned by critics, and they have no unique technological advantage. </span></p>
<p><span>The consensus for why Apple is interested in Beats seems to have settled on the following: Apple gets a high margin headphone business, a streaming music service, and the talents of </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-apple-beats-deal-is-happening-but-not-for-reasons-you-might-think-2014-5" target="_blank">executives Iovine and Ian Rogers</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">. <span>The last bit is the part that many people in technology don't seem to appreciate. Though, the report doesn't even mention Rogers.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"I know Jimmy and Ian pretty well, and I think the more creative talent they can get in there - given their history and what people look to them for - they'll be not only in music but in other areas like television and video," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/qa-with-walt-mossberg-and-kara-swisher-2014-5#ixzz32wUrdfws" target="_blank">tech pundit and Re/Code cofounder Walt Mossberg recently told Business Insider</a>. "I guess that's my gut reaction as to why they might be doing this."</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Iovine (</span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQWM2Vgq8Qo" target="_blank">pronounced "Eye-o-veen"</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">), expected to become a senior Apple employee, </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">is the cofounder of Interscope Records, chairman at </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interscope_Geffen_A%26M" title="Interscope Geffen A&amp;M">Interscope Geffen A&amp;M</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">, and cofounder and chairman at Beats. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Iovine has had his hands in the music business for four decades. He could be just the right person to help reignite Apple's efforts in the music business. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Before getting into the production side of the business, Iovine worked alongside musical greats like John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen as a recording engineer. Springsteen even gave Iovine a shout-out in his song "Ain't Good Enough for You," <a href="http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/brucespringsteen/aintgoodenoughforyou.html" target="_blank">in which he sings, "Hitting cool just like Jimmy Iovine</a>."</span></p>
<p><span>In 1990, Iovine cofounded Interscope Records. <span>Over the years, Iovine has been involved with the production of more than 250 albums. </span>Interscope has been home to artists like Dr. Dre, No Doubt, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, Nine Inch Nails, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Ellie Goulding, and Azaelia Banks. </span></p>

Iovine was the one to sign her to Streamline/Interscope. Lady Gaga has repeatedly <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JB04N2ocWI&amp;feature=kp" target="_blank">thanked Iovine in her acceptance speeches</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/1642460/eminem-honors-dr-dre-at-ascap-awards-ceremony/" target="_blank">as has rapper Eminem</a>. R&amp;B artist Mary J Blige is also a big proponent of Iovine.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">"Jimmy is not afraid to say what he likes and doesn't like," <a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lana-del-rey-skylar-grey-perform-in-l-a-to-honor-jimmy-iovine-20120209" target="_blank">Blige said</a> on the red carpet of the 2012 Grammy Awards Producers &amp; Engineers Event. "He's not afraid to be honest. He is a musician himself."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">At that same event, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apWMjru_RuI" target="_blank">National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences President Neil Portnow also honored Iovine</a>. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">"Jimmy is a renaissance man and we've known each other a long time," Portnow said. "But when you look at the body of work that he created when he was an engineer and producer, when you look at the contributions he's made through the labels he's founded or run, the artists that he's brought to the picture and helped nurture and develop, and now, as entrepreneur focused on sound and sonic excellence. When you add that all up, you really have someone special that we are so delighted to honor tonight."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">From 2011 to 2013, Iovine was a mentor on Fox's American Idol. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Iovine also coproduced the Academy-Award winning movie "8 mile." </span></p>
<p><span>Given his close relationship with Dr. Dre, Iovine and Dre cofounded Beats By Dr. Dre in 2006. The duo launched it with the goal of providing premium audio to people. </span></p>
<p>"Apple was selling $400 iPods with $1 earbuds," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/steve-jobs-on-jimmy-iovine-2014-5" target="_blank">Iovine previously told Inc</a>. "They're making a beautiful white object with all the music in the world in it . . . I'm going to make a beautiful black object that will play it back."</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Earlier this year, Iovine extended the Beats brand with the launch of Beats Music, with former Topspin exec Ian Rogers at the helm. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"There's a sea of music out there but there's no curation for it," </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jimmy-iovine-allthingsd-interview-2014-5" target="_blank">Iovine told Walt Mossberg last year at the D conference</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> Rogers, the CEO of Beats Music, is the 40-something-year-old skater who got his big break in 1993, when he created an unofficial fan page for the Beastie Boys. Impressed with his work, the Beastie Boys eventually invited Rogers to go on tour with them. Rogers eventually became a full-time webmaster for the Beastie Boys, and was tasked with teaching the band how to use the internet.</span></p>

<p><span>Rogers later wound up as the head of Yahoo Music. Rogers worked at Yahoo for a little over four years before leaving for Topsin.</span></p>
<p>"I was fighting with executives over music-video rights," <a href="http://www.wired.com/2012/12/ff-skater-ian-rogers-topspin/all/" target="_blank">Rogers told Wired back in 2012</a>. "It was depressing."</p>
<p><span>In 2008, Rogers became the chief executive at Topspin, a music platform designed to connect artists and fans over the internet.</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> He officially joined Beats Music in January 2013.</span></p>
<p><span>As CEO of Beats Music, Rogers is responsible for changing the way we interact with and discover new digital music.</span></p>
<p><span>"The first thing you'll notice when you're in the service is catalog cleanliness," <a href="http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/digital-and-mobile/5869553/ian-rogers-the-man-behind-the-beats" target="_blank">Rogers said in an interview earlier this year with Billboard</a>. "We don't present music as a database list. We treat it as discographies, as artists' careers and as ways to tell the story of the artist. We're presenting their work several different ways -- in chronological order so you can see the progression of their work, we have selected tracks for our Essentials lists and we've disambiguated versions of the same song, so that the listener isn't given 10 versions of the same recording."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The duo may be tasked with reinventing iTunes at first, but Iovine could also be incredibly beneficial to Apple when it's time to make content deals for the much-rumored Apple TV, given his expertise in Hollywood.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">"iTunes was great, but it needs to step forward now," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/steve-jobs-on-jimmy-iovine-2014-5" target="_blank">Iovine said last year</a>. "Most technology companies are culturally inept. They're never going to get curation right."</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
