 All that 9-year-old <keyword id="3384807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oyon-Ganguli">Oyon Ganguli</keyword> could think when he came across the viral <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ALS+Ice+bucket+challenge&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">ALS ice-bucket challenge</a> was the fact that it was a terrible waste of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=water&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">water</a>. 
 
He also found out that a 10-minute shower wastes approximately 50 gallons of water. “Multiply that by five people taking 20 minute showers, that comes upto around 500 gallons,” he said. 
 Unable to shake off this terrible realisation regarding <keyword id="66392" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="water-wastage">water wastage</keyword>, Ganguli decided that something needed to be done. 
 The result of that is ‘<keyword id="3384809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="The-Cleaner">The Cleaner</keyword>’ which is a shower water recycling prototype that filters the water which can once again be re-used in the shower. 
 What more? The Massachusetts resident conservation-oriented <keyword id="67522" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="invention">invention</keyword> won him the Camp Invention Mighty Minds contest this year. The contest is run jointly by National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF), a platform for America’s budding young inventors. 
 
In a Youtube video where he explains his prototype, Ganguli claims that it was because of his mother that he had entered the competition. 
 
‘The Cleaner’ was made inside a strawberry box which held three layers of cleaning material- gravel, sand and charcoal. He took help from his friend Mateo Rosado for the filtering process. While researching for the prototype, Ganguli also realised that a similar product already exists but he wasn’t one to give up. 
 
Ganguli, who is Bengali novelist and Sahitya Akademi award-winner Sunil Gangopadhyay’s grandson claims that he was so excited about his win that ‘he ended up running circles around the kitchen and backyard for 20 minutes.’ 
 
The third-grader at Fitzgerald Elementary School worked for an hour over two weekends to build the presentation. Explaining how it works, he said that the machine takes in used shower water from the drain and reaches a filter with three layers: gravel, sand and charcoal. After the water is cleaned and filtered, it sits in the storage tank before it is pumped back up to the bathtub. There is also a little door that provides access to the filter incase it gets clogged. 
 
Even though the invention can be expensive, Ganguli is confident that it will save the government from spending more money to get water apart from reducing one’s water bill. 
 
As the grand prize winner, he also gets to spend two days in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=washington+dc&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Washington D.C </a>at the National Inventors Hall of Fame where he’ll meet some of the brightest minds in the country. 
 But, Ganguli is far from done. Infact, the 9-year old is already working on another idea, called the ‘<keyword id="3384810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Space-Cleaner">Space Cleaner</keyword>’- which is a solar-powered robot whose one arm melts space junk and the other vacuums up the melted liquid. 
 
The idea for this came to Ganguli while he was watching Apollo 13 with his parents and thought to himself, “What happens to everything that’s flying off the ship into space?” 
 
He also has big dreams for when he grows up. “When I grow up, I want to be one of three things- work at Lego, be an inventor or work for Mojang (the company that develops <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=minecraft&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Minecraft</a>),” he said in an <a href="http://waltham.wickedlocal.com/article/20160427/NEWS/160426185/?Start=2">interview</a>.

The survey, tabled in Parliament by Finance Minister <keyword id="19916618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="keywords">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword>, highlighted the untapped potential of the <keyword id="20682012" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-agriculture" source="keywords">Indian agriculture</keyword> sector compared to other economies. Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran called for a pan-India dialogue on the agriculture sector. The survey, presented ahead of the annual budget, emphasised that India has yet to fully leverage its agricultural sector for economic growth and job creation, unlike East Asian economies and Western developed nations. "Indian agriculture is not in a crisis now but requires a serious <keyword id="20544318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="structural-transformation" source="keywords">structural transformation</keyword> because climate change and water criticality loom large in the times to come," the survey stated. The CEA advocated for a reassessment of existing policies, despite current government subsidies and support measures for farmers. "The payoff will be immense if we untie the knots that bedevil farm sector policies," Nageswaran said in the survey's preface. While the government provides substantial support to farmers through subsidies on water, electricity, and fertilizers, along with income tax exemptions and minimum support prices, there is room for improvement in policy implementation, he added. The survey identified several key challenges, including balancing growth with food inflation management, improving price discovery, and addressing land fragmentation. To address these challenges, the survey recommends multi-pronged reforms, which include: upgrading agricultural technology, enhancing marketing avenues, adopting farming innovations, reducing input wastage, and improving the agriculture-industry linkages. The document stressed the need to shift focus from basic <keyword id="19992806" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-security" source="keywords">food security</keyword> to nutritional security, aligning with a 'demand-driven food system' that is both nutritious and environmentally sustainable. The survey suggested that policymakers must strike a delicate balance between incentivizing farmers to increase production and keeping food prices within acceptable limits. "This dual objective requires careful policy interventions." The survey also emphasized the need for a farmer-friendly policy framework to ensure markets function in farmers' interests. It recommended avoiding bans on futures or options markets at the first sign of price spikes; invoking bans only under exceptional circumstances; re-examining the inflation-targeting framework; increasing the total net irrigated area, and aligning farming practices with <keyword id="22505922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-considerations" source="keywords">climate considerations</keyword>. Looking ahead to 2047, the survey highlighted the potential of agriculture and allied sectors (horticulture, livestock, fisheries, dairy, and food processing) for sustained <keyword id="20268655" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="employment-generation" source="keywords">employment generation</keyword>. "To sustain growth for nearly a generation up to 2047 or more and to ensure that it makes people's lives better and fulfills their aspirations, bottom-up reforms are necessary," it noted. It suggested that India may need to reconsider the traditional development model of transitioning from agriculture to industry and services.

The country is one of the largest producers of fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood in the world. But irrespective of the production the nation has limited access to the produce as a substantial amount of wastage is experienced throughout the supply chain in the processing units and delivery due to the unavailability of standard <keyword id="850723" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cold-chain" source="Orion">cold chain</keyword> infrastructure. A considerable amount of produce gets spoiled every year due to various reasons which can be checked with the help of efficient cold chain facilities. Even against such loss, in the past few years, unanimous demand for fresh, locally-produced, or preserved food has risen phenomenally. Further, the meat, seafood, and bio-pharmaceuticals segments are driving the steep demand for the cold chain. It comes with the capacity to sustain large-scale food production, and processing, and limit food wastage with the help of integrated refrigerated transport, pack houses, collection centers, and cold storage. The need was even starkly felt during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure a smooth supply chain throughout the country and even overseas. With the Indian food industry pacing up, the cold chain is emerging as the most sought-after facility. Even the government is coming up with comprehensive schemes to boost the cold storage infrastructure by reducing the wastage of production. The entire agriculture, food processing, and pharma industries can benefit from the infrastructure and embark on a journey of future growth. Depending upon the nature of food, there are two types of cold stores, namely – active and passive cold stores. Daily routine products like frozen food, ice cream, etc. require active storage with dynamic storage applications. It is backed up with a wide range of temperature zones within the same <keyword id="6364502" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="warehouse" source="Orion">warehouse</keyword> for storing diverse products requiring different temperatures. On the other hand, passive cold storage is meant for the long-term preservation of perishable goods like seeds, potatoes, onions, etc. Irrespective of the type of storage, moisture acts as a potential deterrent wreaking havoc on the food industry by initiating a series of reactions resulting in spoilage even after installing the best cold storage. It is responsible for the frosting of products, slippery floors, ice-build up on conveyor belts, and cooling coils. Moreover, in the loading dock, the frost build-up causes fog inside. It is also responsible for the softening and sagging of cardboard cartons which makes them very unstable and hazardous. Therefore, to curb the moisture menace in the cold storage industry it is important to deploy advanced dehumidification solutions for inhibiting the frost formation on the evaporators and ice build-up on the cooling coils. It contributes immensely in increasing the productivity of the cold chain. Desiccant dehumidification is the most economic and energy-efficient solution that intervenes with the fogging and frosting prospects of cooling coils by providing cool dry air at a dew point lower than that of the cold room. It is well equipped to provide dry air continuously irrespective of the surrounding conditions. Considering that up till now cold chains were sporadically developed on the basis of need with limited resources and infrastructure, it is the need of the hour that such technology is installed in the cold chain facilities. By controlling the humidity levels, it not just solves the problem of frosting and icing but plays a pivotal role in achieving the global level safety and quality standards that will help India in becoming an international player as a quality food supplier. The use of dehumidification can be the game changer for the development of cold chains as it can help cold store owners/ exporters garner better value for the produce, increase global trade, and ultimately contribute to the revenue model of the country.
