This summer, Costco is swinging big with $1,000 or more off <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-selling-electric-cars-top-ev-cheapest-2023-2024-1">EVs from four brands</a>.</p><p>From now until July 31, Costco members can take $1,000 off the price of a Cadillac Lyriq, Chevy Equinox EV, Chevy Blazer EV, Volvo C40 Recharge, or Volvo XC40 Recharge. Meanwhile, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-vs-polestar">Polestar 2 fans</a> can pick up $2,000 savings on the brand's latest offering.</p><p>Vehicles must be in stock at a participating dealer and delivery must take place before July 31.</p><p>There is another <a target="_blank" href="https://www.costcoauto.com/special_offers/">catch</a> too: the deal is only available to those who were existing members as of April 30.</p><p>Of course, Costco still offers smaller deals on a range of other new vehicles for current and new members alike.</p>

With millions of people across five continents experiencing scorching heat last month, the European Union's (EU) climate agency, Copernicus <keyword id="19907392" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-change" source="keywords">Climate Change</keyword> Service (C3S), confirmed on Monday that June was the warmest on record. It also marked the 12th consecutive month of <keyword id="20524196" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-temperatures" source="keywords">global temperatures</keyword> reaching <keyword id="22325521" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="1-5-degrees-Celsius" source="keywords">1.5 degrees Celsius</keyword> above the pre-industrial average. <br /><br />According to scientists at C3S, every month since June last year has been the warmest such month on record. <br /><br />In January, the world completed an entire year with the mean surface air temperature exceeding the 1.5-degree Celsius threshold. June was the 12th consecutive month with monthly average temperatures above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average. <br /><br />At the 2015 UN climate talks in Paris, world leaders committed to limiting the global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial period to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. However, a permanent breach of the 1.5-degree Celsius limit specified in the <keyword id="20104670" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paris-Agreement" source="keywords">Paris Agreement</keyword> refers to long-term warming over a 20 or 30-year period. <br /><br />Earth's global surface temperature has already increased by around 1.2 degrees Celsius compared to the average in 1850-1900 due to the rapidly-increasing concentration of <keyword id="20649149" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="greenhouse-gases" source="keywords">greenhouse gases</keyword> -- primarily carbon dioxide and methane -- in the atmosphere. This warming is considered to be the reason behind record droughts, wildfires and floods worldwide. <br /><br />According to new data, June 2024 was the warmest on record, with an average surface air temperature of 16.66 degrees Celsius, 0.67 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 average for the month and 0.14 degrees Celsius above the previous high set in June 2023. <br /><br />"The month was 1.5 degrees Celsius above the estimated June average for 1850-1900, the designated pre-industrial reference period, making it the 12th consecutive month to reach or break the 1.5-degree threshold," C3S said in a statement. <br /><br />It was also the 13th consecutive month of <keyword id="21477127" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="record-high-temperatures" source="keywords">record-high temperatures</keyword>, a result of the combined effect of the 2023-24 El Nino event and human-caused climate change. While unusual, a similar streak of monthly global temperature records happened previously in 2015-16. <br /><br />"This is more than a statistical oddity and highlights a large and continuing shift in our climate. Even if this specific streak of extremes ends at some point, we are bound to see new records being broken as the climate continues to warm. This is inevitable, unless we stop adding greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and the oceans," said Carlo Buontempo, the director of C3S. <br /><br />The European climate agency said the global average temperature for the last 12 months (July 2023-June 2024) is the highest on record, at 0.76 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 average and 1.64 degrees Celsius above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average. <br /><br />The world's sea surface in June was also the highest ever recorded for the month. <br /><br />Several countries experienced record-breaking heat and devastating floods and storms in June. <br /><br />According to an analysis by Climate Central, an independent group of scientists and communicators based in the United States, more than 60 per cent of the world population faced extreme heat that was made at least three times more likely by climate change during June 16-24. <br /><br />Climate Central said the blistering heat in June impacted 619 million (61.9 crore) people in India, 579 million (57.9 crore) in China, 231 million (23.1 crore) in Indonesia, 206 million (20.6 crore) in Nigeria, 176 million (17.6 crore) in Brazil, 171 million (17.1 crore) in Bangladesh, 165 million (16.5 crore) in the US, 152 million (15.2 crore) in Europe, 123 million (12.3 crore) in Mexico, 121 million (12.1 crore) in Ethiopia and 103 million (10.3 crore) in Egypt. <br /><br />According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), northwest India recorded its warmest June since 1901. <br /><br />India, which experienced one of its hottest and longest heatwaves, recorded more than 40,000 suspected heatstroke cases and over 100 heat-related deaths. The intense heat overwhelmed the water supply system and power grids, with Delhi grappling with a severe water crisis. <br /><br />According to the IMD, 11 states recorded 20 to 38 heatwave days -- up to four times the usual number of such days -- during the April-to-June period. Best rechargeable toothbrushes in India

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="6359474" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="volvo">Volvo</keyword> is the latest car brand committing to an all-electric future. </li><li>The brand announced on Tuesday that it plans to sell only <keyword id="6354973" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="electric-vehicles">electric vehicles</keyword> by 2030. </li><li>Its <keyword id="6358835" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Electric-cars">electric cars</keyword> will only be available to buy online. </li></ul><p>Volvo is the latest car company pledging to go all-in on electric vehicles. </p><p>The carmaker <a href="https://www.media.volvocars.com/us/en-us/media/pressreleases/277409/volvo-cars-to-be-fully-electric-by-2030">announced</a> plans Tuesday to phase out the production of gas-powered vehicles, including hybrids, by 2030. It will also move to only sell its fully electric cars <a href="https://www.media.volvocars.com/us/en-us/media/pressreleases/277408/all-pure-electric-volvo-models-to-be-available-online-only">online</a>. </p><p>Volvo is still committed to its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/promises-carmakers-have-made-about-their-future-electric-vehicles-2020-1#volvo-5">previous plan</a> to generate 50% of its global sales from <keyword id="312660" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="EVS">EVs</keyword> by 2025, and the other half from hybrids. The company said it plans to launch "several" new electric models in coming years. It currently sells one, the XC40 Recharge crossover, and unveiled its second, the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/volvo-c40-recharge-ev-polestar-tesla-2021-3">C40 Recharge</a>, on Tuesday. </p><p>"There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine," Volvo CTO Henrik Green said in a statement. "We are firmly committed to becoming an electric-only car maker and the transition should happen by 2030."</p><p>Volvo also has an electric and high-performance division called <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-volvo-ev-polestar-take-on-tesla-north-america-2021-1?r=tl-sub">Polestar</a>, which sells a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/polestar-1-review-car-price-horsepower-hybrid-coupe-volvo-geely-2020-12">luxury hybrid</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/polestar-2-review-price-ev-volvo-tesla-specs-horsepower-electric-2020-8">EV</a>. The company said it cannot comment on how Tuesday's announcement may affect future plans for Polestar. </p><p>All fully electric Volvos will only be available to order online, with Volvo promising to "radically simplify" the process for ordering a car. Customers will be able to choose from pre-configured models that can be delivered quickly, Volvo said.</p><p>Volvo won't phase out physical retail locations, however, as dealerships will still take delivery of vehicles and help with service and maintenance, a company spokesperson told Insider.</p><p>Cars bought online will also come with the "Care by Volvo" package that bundles in service, warranties, roadside assistance, insurance, and home charging options. But there has been some friction when Volvo has tried to introduce similar online offerings in the past. </p><p>Care by Volvo used to be the name of the brand's car subscription service, which got off to a <a href="https://jalopnik.com/this-is-why-care-by-volvo-has-been-such-a-mess-1826618607">rocky start</a> in 2018 due to hiccups over insurance and other legal requirements that varied in each state. </p><p>Amid tightening regulations on the sale of gas-powered cars in cities and countries around the globe, several carmakers have issued aggressive pledges to transition to all-EV lineups. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gm-debuts-new-logo-as-it-transitions-to-electric-vehicles-2021-1">General Motors</a> plans to only sell EVs by 2035, while Ford announced in February that it plans to go <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-sell-only-electric-cars-uk-europe-emissions-2030-2021-2">all-electric in Europe by 2030</a>. </p>

In 2021, Polestar aims to deliver tens of thousands. </p><p>Whereas Volvo's electrified future will always be somewhat reliant on hybrid cars, a Polestar spokesperson said that there is no internal-combustion engine future in its portfolio. It's going to be all battery-electric from here on out. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_15" height="3750" width="2500" msid="77563125" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>Details and safety ratings: Looks great on paper</strong></h2><p>Built on Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture, which debuted with the Volvo XC40 compact crossover, the 2 uses two electric motors connected to its front and rear axles. The car, then, is all-wheel drive. Total system output is a claimed 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque.</p><p>There's a 400-volt lithium-ion battery with a 78-kilowatt-hour capacity. DC charging - <a href="https://evsafecharge.com/dc-fast-charging-explained/">a type of fast charging</a> - takes 40 minutes to reach 80% capacity at 150 kilowatts. Polestar estimates the 2 to hit 60 mph from a standstill in 4.5 seconds, 100 mph in 10.8 seconds, and do the quarter-mile in 12.76 seconds.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_4" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563129" hostid="261"></div><p>The Polestar 2's European WLTP range estimate is 291 miles, while the EPA gives it 233 miles. WLTP estimates tend to be <a href="https://insideevs.com/news/414786/comparison-epa-wltp-range-ratings/">more optimistic</a> than EPA estimates.</p><p>At 15.1 feet long and 6.5 feet wide, the 2 is about the length of a Toyota RAV4, though about five inches wider. It weighs 4,680 pounds.</p><p>The Polestar 2 starts at $59,900, but debuted initially with a heavily loaded "launch edition" version that includes features such as the Pilot Assist driver-assistance technology, a Harman Kardon stereo system, and Android as its native operating system. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_OEM_6" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563131" hostid="261"></div><p>A $5,000 Performance Pack adds Öhlins dampers, attractive gold Brembo front brake calipers, 20-inch aluminum wheels, sport tires, a black roof, and gold seatbelts and tire valve caps. </p><p>As of this writing, neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have safety rated the Polestar 2.</p><h2><strong>What stands out: A lot of people will ask you about it  </strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2." height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563132" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>A man in a white delivery van pulled up alongside the 2 while I sat at a red light on Madison Avenue in New York City. He was waving frantically. I rolled my window down.</p><p>"What is that?" he yelled.</p><p>"It's a Polestar!"</p><p>"What?"</p><p>"A POLESTAR! Electric car!"</p><p>"Who makes it?"</p><p>"Uh… Volvo."</p><p>"Huh." He studied it a bit longer. Nodded in approval. "Looks better than a Tesla!"</p><p>Later, someone standing on the sidewalk five blocks north shouted, "Yo! What is that?"</p><p>I couldn't answer, on account that I was already driving. But I wanted to. I wanted to tell everyone what this thing was.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2." height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563135" hostid="261"></div><p>Never did I imagine a sedan would be quite a showstopper like this. But it is. Everywhere I went, people stopped to gawk or did double-takes. </p><p>The truth is the 2 <em>is</em> striking to look at. Low and wide, its horizontally opposed design is just accentuated all the more by the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms85AUWFhdI">Thor's Hammer daytime running lights</a> carried over from its Volvo siblings. But whereas the Volvos wear the company crest slashed across their noses, Polestar is far more subtle. The Polestar logo is just a slightly embossed, body-colored thing. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_8" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563139" hostid="261"></div><p>The rear is completely debadged. Instead of spelling out its own name in raised lettering, it just wears a long, flat, U-shaped <a href="https://jalopnik.com/heckblende-taillights-are-so-hot-right-now-1830885780">heckblende tail light</a>. That's it. </p><p>That sense of restraint carries into the interior, too. The color palette there is composed of either sedate Charcoal and Slate shades (the only leather option is available in Barley). Nothing is shiny or overly reflective. There's no - <em>gasp</em> - chrome. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_OEM_10" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563142" hostid="261"></div><p>Driving the 2 felt very similar to the Model 3 I'd driven two years ago. With all-wheel drive, ample power, and a low center of gravity, the 2 felt much more agile and fleet-footed than its two-ton-plus weight would suggest. The acceleration never got old. The funny, floating sensation in my stomach when I mashed the accelerator never went away. </p><p>In fact, the power inspires so much confidence that too soon, you'll find yourself ducking and tucking in and out of traffic unnecessarily. The instant torque just makes so easy and so much fun. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2." height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563145" hostid="261"></div><p><a href="https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1123547_what-is-one-pedal-driving-in-an-electric-car">One-pedal driving</a> was also fun to get the hang of. Eventually, I got the feel of it down enough to the point that I didn't need to touch the brake pedal once while navigating Manhattan stop-and-go traffic. </p><p>Obviously, plenty of fun can be had in a naturally aspirated V8 with a manual transmission. This is a different kind of fun, one that makes a high-pitched whirring when you really lean into the pedal and as the car gathers speed. No hiccups in the acceleration from gears shifting - just flawless, smooth forward momentum, and the sound of the wind washing over the car as you pick up speed.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_9" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563149" hostid="261"></div><p>If you've never done it before, speeding up in an electric car sort of feels like being slingshotted forward. The car needs to build a bit into the acceleration, but once it does, it's like being yanked forward by the world's biggest rubber band. There's nothing else quite like it.</p><p>Finally, as an Android user, I was stoked that the car came with Android as its native operating system. For too long I've been frustrated by all the different operating systems each automaker uses. All of them are different. Very nearly all of them are bad. <em>Just leave designing the OS up to the people who actually design OSes! </em>I bellowed at the clouds.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_OEM_5" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563209" hostid="261"></div><p>The system's voice command is activated by the phrase "Hey, Google" or "OK, Google." With it, you can modify the climate and change the radio stations. You can ask it to navigate you to places, which is great since the 2 comes natively with Google Maps, a system I'm already used to using. </p><p>And with the car's ability to connect to a 4G mobile network, you can Google things as you would normally, as long as there is a connection. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2." height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563212" hostid="261"></div><p>"HEY, GOOGLE," I screamed at the car, like the serious road tester that I am. "WHAT'S AN AMPHIBIAN?" </p><p>"<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphibian">According to Wikipedia</a>," the system responded smartly, "Amphibians are ectothermic, tetrapod vertebrates of the class Amphibia. All living amphibians belong to the group Lissamphibia. They inhabit a wide variety of habitats, with most species living within terrestrial, fossorial, arboreal, or freshwater aquatic ecosystems."</p><p>Satisfied, I fired off one last order. "Hey, Google. Play me Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' album on Spotify!"</p><p><em>I'm doing good, I'm on some new s---. Been saying "yes" instead of "no."</em></p><p><em><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_6" height="1666" width="2500" msid="77563214" hostid="261"></div></em></p><h2><strong>What falls short: Numb steering </strong></h2><p>Anti-screen folks like me will be dismayed to learn the Polestar 2's chief system access point is a big, vertical touchscreen. You can ask the Google assistant with help on some things, but you will need to interact with this screen every so often.</p><p>The Polestar attacked the curvier roads outside of Manhattan happily enough, but I still felt the steering was a bit too numb to inspire full confidence. Even on the heaviest steering setting, I still had trouble really feeling out what the front of the car was doing. For regular commuting, it's just fine. For something a little more spirited, it might give you some pause. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_OEM_7" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563215" hostid="261"></div><p>And if you're someone who loves many exterior colors to choose from, prepare for the Polestar 2's whopping six (!) options. Void (also known as black) comes as standard. But for an extra $1,200, you can pick from thrilling shades such as Magnesium, Midnight, Moon, Snow, and Thunder. And when I say "thrilling" here, I actually mean "demure and muted." </p><h2><strong>How the Polestar 2 compares to its competitors: A range test for you </strong></h2><p>The EPA gives the 2 a range of 233 miles, compared to 263 miles for Tesla's Standard Range Plus Model 3, 353 miles for its Long Range version, and 315 miles for its Performance version.</p><p>As for my experience with the 2's range: When the media drive started in midtown Manhattan, my loaner car was at 85% battery capacity. Our lunchtime location was at the Storm King Art Center, some 70 miles north of the city via spirited driving on the curvy roads through Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_11" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563217" hostid="261"></div><p>There was some gridlock getting out of Manhattan and about 15 minutes of bumper-to-bumper traffic on New Jersey Route 17. The ride back down to Manhattan's West Side was a quick stint down the Palisades Parkway, averaging a speed of about 60 mph. </p><p>It was about 88 degrees Fahrenheit during the entire time I had the car. I kept the interior climate at a cool 70 degrees Fahrenheit.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_OEM_3" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563219" hostid="261"></div><p>When I returned the car to the Polestar team, it was down to 22% battery capacity, or an estimated 45 miles remaining. Another journalist in my group gave his car back with significantly less battery life remaining, but he tends to drive cars a bit harder than I do. The trip in its entirety was about 130 miles. </p><p>In the media briefing, Polestar representatives made certain to tell us about how it commissioned <a href="https://www.ftt-a.com/vehicle-evaluation/">FT Tech</a>, an independent third party, to conduct a real-world highway range test. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_OEM_2" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563222" hostid="261"></div><p>Using a regular Polestar 2, a Polestar 2 with the Performance Package, a Tesla Model 3 Performance, a Jaguar I-Pace, and an Audi E-Tron, the FT Tech took all of the cars onto a three-mile oval closed course during an 85-degree Fahrenheit day. </p><p>All cars started at 100% battery capacity and during their drive, the climate control was set to 72 degrees. FT Tech then ran the cars at a steady 70 mph until they could not maintain that speed anymore as their batteries depleted to see how far they could go.</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_16" height="3750" width="2500" msid="77563227" hostid="261"></div><p>The results? </p><ul><li>Tesla Model 3 Performance: 234 miles</li><li>Polestar 2: 205 miles</li><li>Polestar 2 with Performance Package: 197 miles</li><li>Jaguar I-Pace: 188 miles</li><li>Audi E-Tron: 187 miles</li></ul><p>And here's a screenshot of how much range the cars produced as compared to their official EPA-estimated ranges (this test occured before the 2 had an official EPA range, hence the 250-mile estimate).</p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2" height="1662" width="1834" msid="77563229" hostid="261"></div><p>Interestingly, while the Tesla did travel the furthest, it was the least efficient. According to this study, at least. </p><p>You may use that information as you will. Just bear in mind that even though this test was conducted by a third party, it was still paid for by Polestar.</p><p>Still, a 205-mile range isn't bad at all. </p><h2><strong>Our impressions: The singularity</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_14" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563235" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>If I were to close my eyes and only experience what the Polestar is like while it's moving - its acceleration, its one-pedal driving characteristics, the futuristic <em>whee</em> it makes under load - I'd swear it was a Tesla. </p><p>This is not to say that one is better than the other. Rather, I think the two cars indicate a singularity that we are fast approaching as more and more high-performance EVs enter the market. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_20" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563240" hostid="261"></div><p>By design, EVs lack the many tactile driving characteristics an internal-combustion engine car offers. A four-cylinder turbocharged car with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox drives very differently from something with a naturally aspirated V8 and a manual transmission. </p><p>Because they lack such variation, I've found that all the EVs I've driven do tend to drive very similarly to each other. The only difference between them being their power output and the resulting fury of their acceleration. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_12" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563242" hostid="261"></div><p>So, the Polestar 2 drives great. This much I was able to glean in the one afternoon I spent with it.</p><p>But what's packaged around that driving experience is also great. The 2 is a machine that has wonderfully sharp looks that'll stop passing pedestrians in their path - but not because it's flashy. It draws your eye because it doesn't look like anything else that's currently on the road. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Polestar 2_KL_19" height="1667" width="2500" msid="77563244" hostid="261"></div><p>Sitting in the 2, driving the 2 - both worked to achieve a mood of peace and serenity. The quietness from the lack of an engine contributed to that, too, of course. But there's an unmistakable sense of quiet quality here, one that doesn't need to go around shouting to make itself heard. </p><p>For a car built in China, the 2 feels overwhelmingly Scandinavian: smartly designed and well assembled. Volvo just announced its first electric car ever as it plans to stop making conventional gas-powered cars within 5 years

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Volvo</span></p><p class="caption">You just got a bad deal.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><strong>• Care by Volvo is a new premium subscription alternative to buying or leasing a vehicle.</strong></p><p><strong>• It eliminates price negotiation.</strong></p><p><strong>• No-haggle pricing is almost always a bad deal for consumers because it takes away one of their only negotiating advantages.</strong></p><p>Volvo is rolling out a new alternative to traditional car buying or leasing, called <a href="https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/media/pressreleases/213101">Care by Volvo</a>.</p><p>It's essentially an elaborate rental arrangement, eliminating loan/leasing down payments and insurance requirements while adding a suite of concierge services. Volvo described it as a "premium subscription" and will offer it when a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-volvo-rolls-out-compact-suv-in-latest-upmarket-shift-under-geely-2017-9" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">new compact crossover SUV, the XC40</a>, hits the market. The vehicle was unveiled on Thursday in Italy.</p><p>In a statement, the Swedish-Chinese carmaker said that "Care by Volvo also removes the practice of price negotiations," pointing out that "[c]ustomer research shows that this is one of the elements of the car-buying process that customers dislike the most."</p><p>A no-haggle deal is nothing new; consumers have long agitated for it, and some automakers have responded, most famously Saturn in the 1980s.</p><h2>Why no-haggle is no good</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>KELENY / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p class="caption">It's really not that hard.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>But to anyone with experience buying or leasing vehicles, no-haggle is a non-starter. Yes, the buying/leasing process through a traditional dealership can be annoying and time-consuming. But by surrendering their ability to negotiate on price, consumers give away their biggest economic advantage when obtaining a set of wheels.</p><p>This matters because car payments are typically most peoples' second largest fixed monthly expense, after rents or mortgages. Lease and loan payments are determined by several factors, but price is the most important: what you end up paying begins with the big number on the sticker.</p><p>The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is suggested for a reason - it's merely a baseline. Unpopular but perfectly good new vehicles - think Volkswagen's small sedans, for example, which have been losing out to SUVs - can be had for far less than MSRP. But you have to be willing to wheel and deal a bit.</p><p>It's hard to understand why this freaks people out so much. You don't even have to go to the dealership. You can simply call around to various dealers, focusing on the vehicle you want, and say something like, "I'd like to spend this much, what have you got?"</p><p>The dealer's mission in life is to sell cars, because if he or she doesn't, the dealership can't profit from generating financing and insurance opportunities, as well as servicing the car down the road and setting the customer up to buy more vehicles later.</p><h2>Bad deals</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span> Justin Sullivan/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Consumers should have some say in the final price.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>No-haggle deals, in this well-understood framework, are always going to be bad for the consumer. They're also not so great for the dealer, who wants to be able to buck the MSRP when warranted. They're good for carmakers, because, for the most part, they collect their cut when an assembled vehicle is "purchased" by the dealership, often via what is called "floor plan" financing, whereby a carmaker extends credit to a dealer to create inventory.</p><p>So why do consumers want bad deals?</p><p>Fear, plain and simple. Car dealerships are intimidating, and even a cheap car will set a buyer back $20,000. A lot of folks are willing to sacrifice thousands of dollars in savings to avoid the unpleasant experience.</p><p>It doesn't help that most people buy or lease a car only every three-to-five years. The experience is newly unpleasant every time because it happens so infrequently. </p><p>As we shift our ownership priorities with new, younger generations of car buyers coming into the market, we're likely to see more services like Volvo's. The upshot is that buying or leasing a car will be more "frictionless."</p><p>Unfortunately, the friction of the older system is what made getting a good deal on a new car possible. Volvo just launched a new subscription service for its cars - but it's a bad deal for consumers

The device is expected to feature a 6.7-inch Full HD+ curved OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,600 nits peak brightness.<br /><br />The smartphone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition chipset coupled with Adreno 644 GPU. In terms of memory, India may get two variants – 8GB RAM + 256GB of internal storage and 12GB RAM + 512GB internal storage.<br /><br />Coming to the camera department, the Honor 90 is expected to feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, the device is expected to feature a 50MP selfie camera.<br /><br />The Honor 90 is likely to be powered by a 5,000mAh battery.
