"The agency is investigating why Vivo India declared profit as expenditure in its balance sheet and transferred substantial sums of money to China," an official familiar with the matter told Business Today. The above report has revealed that the company’s total turnover during the period was around ₹1.25 lakh crore. This shows it transferred nearly half of its turnover to its Chinese parent, if the reported numbers are correct. The money laundering case against Vivo was filed by ED after taking cognizance of a FIR filed by the Economic Offenses Wing of the Delhi Police against a Vivo distributor based in Jammu and Kashmir. The FIR alleged that Chinese shareholders of the company had forged their identity documents. According to the above report, ED suspects that the identity was forged to launder money using shell companies and “proceeds of the crime” have been sent to China and other businesses to bypass Indian rules. The ED had claimed that Vivo had transferred ₹62,476 crore to its parent company in China over a five-year period to avoid paying taxes in the country. The agency had also accused the company of violating the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Delhi High Court allows Vivo to operate its bank accounts if it’s ready to furnish a ₹950 crore bank guarantee

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has told Delhi High Court through an affidavit that <keyword id="215177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vivo" source="Orion">Vivo</keyword> India indulged in money laundering to destabilise the financial system and challenge the integrity and sovereignty of the country. The affidavit was filed before the Delhi High Court last week. The anti-money laundering agency has said in the affidavit that they were scanning the suspicious financial transactions of 22 firms owned by Hongkong based foreigners and entities. These firms transferred huge money to China. It is also probing a money laundering case against Grand prospect International Communication private limited, a Jammu and Kashmir based distributor of Vivo. The firm was reportedly incorporated on the basis of forged documents and it was claiming to be a subsidiary of Vivo India. The firm used an email peter.ou@vivoglobal.com, indicates connection with Vivo India and it is in record of Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Delhi-based Chartered Accountant firm had helped in incorporating J&amp;K based firm. This firm has been in touch with Vivo India since 2014. The ED has mentioned that Vivo India incorporated 22 firms in different states which allegedly laundered money. The Delhi based CA firm helped Vivo India in incorporating 22 firms. Earlier, Vivo India had said that they were following all rules of the land of India. Chinese smartphone company Vivo's top executives, directors Zhengshen Ou and Zhang Jie, had fled from India via Nepal. In February, the ED initiated a Prevention of Money Laundering case against them on the basis of an FIR lodged with Kalkaji Police Station of Delhi under sections 417, 120B and 420 of IPC, 1860 against Grand Prospect International Communication Private Limited (GPICPL) and its Director, shareholders and certifying professionals etc on the basis of complaint filed by Ministry of Corporate Affairs. As per the FIR, GPICPL and its shareholders had used forged identification documents and falsified addresses at the time of incorporation. The allegations were found to be true as the investigation revealed that the addresses mentioned by the directors of GPICPL did not belong to them, but was a government building and house of a senior bureaucrat. ED has said that out of the total sale proceeds of Rs 1,25,185 crore, Vivo India remitted Rs 62,476 crore. i.e, almost 50 per cent of the turnover is out of India, mainly to China. Chinese smartphone maker Huawei comes under the IT department’s scanner over tax evasion

One of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s largest business conglomerates, the <keyword id="6355725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-group" source="Orion">Tata Group</keyword>, will replace Chinese mobile manufacturer <keyword id="215177" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vivo" source="Orion">Vivo</keyword> as the Indian Premier League's title sponsor from this year, the event's governing council decided in a meeting on Tuesday. "Yes, Tata group is coming in as <keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ipl" source="Orion">IPL</keyword> title sponsor," IPL chairman <keyword id="140901" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="brijesh-patel" source="Orion">Brijesh Patel</keyword> confirmed the development to PTI. The money associated with the deal is yet to be known and a Tata spokesperson, while confirming the development with a "yes", didn't divulge any further details. Vivo had a deal of Rs 2200 crore for title sponsorship rights from 2018-2022 but after the 2020 Galwan Valley military face-off between the Indian and Chinese Army soldiers, the brand took a break for a year with Dream11 replacing it in the IPL. However, Vivo was back as IPL tittle sponsor in 2021 even as speculation raged that the company was looking to transfer the rights to a suitable bidder and the <keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword> approved the move. "This was supposed to happen sooner or later as Vivo's presence was bringing bad publicity for both the league as well as the company. With negative sentiment around Chinese products, the company had to pull out of the sponsorship with one season left for the deal to be completed," said a BCCI source. The BCCI will not lose any money as it is still assured of an annual sponsorship sum of Rs 440 crore which will now be paid by the new sponsors. The economics of sponsorship is that BCCI keeps 50 per cent of the money and distributes the rest among the IPL franchises which are now 10 with the addition of two new teams this year. It is understood that the deal is only for this year as of now as the BCCI will have to invite fresh tenders for the next cycle starting 2023. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the country’s apex anti-smuggling agency has detected customs duty evasion of around ₹4,389 crore. According to a <a href="https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1841150">release</a> by the Press Information Bureau, the DRI conducted a search operation at Oppo’s offices in the country and the residences of its key management, the agency recovered incriminating evidence that revealed willful misdeclaration in the description of items imported by the company. The items imported by Oppo were reportedly used for the manufacture of mobile phones in the country. The DRI has claimed that Oppo mis-declared the items to avail ineligible duty exemption benefits. It has claimed that the company availed an exemption of ₹2,981 crore. OPPO India is reviewing the SCN received from DRI, and we are going to reply the notice, presenting our side, and will be working further with the related government departments.
