The ED action comes almost more than a year after it carried out searches at 48 locations across the country belonging to <keyword id="3180567" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vivo-mobiles" source="Orion">vivo Mobiles</keyword> India Private Limited and its 23 associated companies such as Grand Prospect International Communication Pvt Ltd (GPICPL). According to the ED, vivo Mobiles India Pvt Ltd was incorporated on August 1, 2014 as a subsidiary of Multi Accord Ltd, a Hong Kong based company and was registered at ROC Delhi. GPICPL was registered on December 3, 2014 at ROC Shimla, with registered addresses of Solan, Himachal Pradesh and Gandhinagar, Jammu. "The said company was incorporated by Zhengshen Ou, Bin Lou and Zhang Jie with the help of Nitin Garg, CA. Bin Lou left India on April 26, 2018. Zhengshen Ou and Zhang Jie left India in 2021," the financial probe agency had said. The ED probe had revealed that the PMLA investigation by ED was initiated by registering a money laundering case on February 3, 2022 on the basis of an FIR registered at the Kalkaji police station in the national capital by the Delhi Police under sections 417, 120B and 420 of IPC, 1860 against GPICPL and its Director, shareholders and certifying professionals, etc., on the basis of complaint filed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. As per the FIR, GPICPL and its shareholders had used forged identification documents and falsified addresses at the time of incorporation. The allegations were found to be true as the investigation revealed that the addresses mentioned by the directors of GPICPL did not belong to them, but in fact it was a government building and house of a senior bureaucrat.

Vivo reportedly transferred nearly $8 billion to its parent company in China

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has told Delhi High Court through an affidavit that <keyword id="215177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vivo" source="Orion">Vivo</keyword> India indulged in money laundering to destabilise the financial system and challenge the integrity and sovereignty of the country. The affidavit was filed before the Delhi High Court last week. The anti-money laundering agency has said in the affidavit that they were scanning the suspicious financial transactions of 22 firms owned by Hongkong based foreigners and entities. These firms transferred huge money to China. It is also probing a money laundering case against Grand prospect International Communication private limited, a Jammu and Kashmir based distributor of Vivo. The firm was reportedly incorporated on the basis of forged documents and it was claiming to be a subsidiary of Vivo India. The firm used an email peter.ou@vivoglobal.com, indicates connection with Vivo India and it is in record of Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Delhi-based Chartered Accountant firm had helped in incorporating J&amp;K based firm. This firm has been in touch with Vivo India since 2014. The ED has mentioned that Vivo India incorporated 22 firms in different states which allegedly laundered money. The Delhi based CA firm helped Vivo India in incorporating 22 firms. Earlier, Vivo India had said that they were following all rules of the land of India. Vivo needs to follow the law of the land, says external affairs ministry

As the <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="enforcement-directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) continued searches at the premises of <keyword id="36918" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chinese" source="Orion">Chinese</keyword> companies, including smartphone maker <keyword id="215177" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vivo" source="Orion">Vivo</keyword>, at 44 locations in 22 states on Wednesday, the directors of one of the companies associated with Vivo have fled <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. According to sources, two of the Chinese directors of Solan, Himachal Pradesh-based company, that was associated with Vivo, have likely fled India, as ED registered a prevention of <keyword id="6355008" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="money-laundering" source="Orion">money laundering</keyword> case. The Chinese nationals were made directors in the Indian entities with fake documents. The enforcement agency has so far received information about money laundering worth Rs 10,000 crore during the raids, according to ED sources. The opening markets, an economy in bounce-back mode, and the general sporting excitement that started picking up with the India-England series – these are some aspects that show promise for this season of IPL. Speaking strictly numbers, according to reports, the projected ad revenue for 2021 is set to be around Rs 400 Cr higher than 2020. Star has previously charged brands Rs 25 lakh for 10-second slots during the India vs Pakistan ICC World Cup match and between Rs 16 to 18 lakh for other World Cup matches. In comparison, the IPL ad charges are still reasonable but the rates are among the costliest for a programme in the country. With summer brands increasing their ad budgets, experts are hoping that consumer sentiment will improve once IPL begins and sales will follow. It is also supposed to bring the advertising industry back on track. Telling us what kind of interest the clients have shown this year, Murthy said, “With respect to our clients specifically, they have looked at IPL in terms of two classifications - IPL on TV and IPL on Disney+ Hotstar, and based on these budgets and KPIs, brands have selected what’s most meaningful to them and what makes most sense for them specifically. Certain brands have chosen to stay out too, preferring to explore other cricket opportunities that will come post IPL. As a big-ticket property, and boosted by high viewership both via broadcast and streaming, with the added factor that summer brands are on the bandwagon now, this April’s IPL will definitely help boost adex, and as the total inventory gets sold, the numbers will become clearer.” The categories of advertisers this year include Edtech, Fantasy Sports, Beverages, Pay Wallets, Home Décor, Auto, Telecom, Consumer Durables, FMCG, Financial Services amongst others. According to media reports, 80% of inventory has already been sold. Star usually keeps some inventory for later, but this year, they plan to sell the entire thing in the beginning only. A digital media expert said the reason behind this is high demand as brands are using every opportunity they can to connect with consumers and bounce back. The spokesperson said, “A lot of brands have witnessed massive growth in revenues after taking up sponsorships with IPL last year when the entire market had slowed down. It’s only natural to learn from that and take action proactively this year. Also, the difference between IPL in 2020 &amp; 2021 was just a matter of 4 months, and hence this kind of demand and all spots filling in early.” At the same time, Duff &amp; Phelps’ report suggests that the IPL ecosystem value has decreased by 3.6% in constant currency terms to INR 45,800 crore from INR 47,500 crore last year. Chandramouli said that IPL 2021 will not be able to beat 2019. He said, “It is unlikely that either viewership or ad volume records will be broken this year. While the advertising budgets of brands are beginning to get better, they are nowhere close to what they used to be in mid-2019. Even IPL is likely to see smaller and newer advertisers with a few of the bigger brands that will remain a part of IPL due to FOMO.”

According to a <a href="https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1841150">release</a> by the Press Information Bureau, the DRI conducted a search operation at Oppo’s offices in the country and the residences of its key management, the agency recovered incriminating evidence that revealed willful misdeclaration in the description of items imported by the company. The items imported by Oppo were reportedly used for the manufacture of mobile phones in the country. The DRI has claimed that Oppo mis-declared the items to avail ineligible duty exemption benefits. It has claimed that the company availed an exemption of ₹2,981 crore. Chinese smartphone maker <keyword id="874458" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="xiaomi" source="Orion">Xiaomi</keyword> on Friday said the ongoing investigations and allegations in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> could take a long period of time to settle, and the company could receive judgments or enter into "settlements that may adversely affect its operating results or cash flows". The company, which registered around 20 per cent drop in its global sales at $10.31 billion in the June quarter (Q2), said that "it is not practical to quantify" related financial effects (of India probes) "at this stage". "The management assessed the aforesaid matters related to <keyword id="2210169" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="xiaomi-india" source="Orion">Xiaomi India</keyword>, taking into consideration opinions from professional advisors and concluded Xiaomi India has valid grounds to respond to the relevant Indian authorities," the group said in its quarterly financial statement. In April, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had said they seized Rs 5,551.27 crore of Xiaomi India, lying in the bank accounts under the provisions of Foreign Exchange Management Act, in connection with the illegal outward remittances made by the company. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had informed the Rajya Sabha, in the recent Monsoon session, that five cases of customs duty evasion have been registered against Xiaomi India by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The company said in its quarterly results that since December 2021, Xiaomi India has been involved in various investigations and notifications initiated by relevant Indian authorities including the Income Tax Department, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Directorate of Enforcement "in relation to compliance of relevant income tax regulations, custom duties regulations as well as foreign exchange regulations". Xiaomi India further received an order on August 11, "whereby certain of its bank deposits were continued to be restricted, alleging Xiaomi India has inappropriately deducted certain costs and expenses, including purchase costs of mobile phones and royalty fees paid to third parties as well as companies within the Group". The government is looking into cases of alleged tax evasion by three Chinese mobile companies -- OPPO, Vivo India and Xiaomi. A show-cause notice demanding Rs 4,403.88 crore has been served to OPPO Mobiles India Ltd based on an investigation conducted by the DRI. The DRI also detected customs duty evasion of around Rs 2,217 crore by Vivo India. For Chinese enterprises that originally tried to make India an overseas product-processing centre, if it is indeed increasingly difficult and unprofitable to operate in the country, then withdrawing from India is also an available option, state-run Global Times said earlier this month.
