<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Here-is-how-Vishal-Sikka-has-become-the-man-Infosys-always-wanted/articleshow/51454896.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Vishal Sikka</a>, the first non-founder CEO of Infosys, who was brought in to put the IT giant back on track, has been <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-might-soon-replace-Cognizant-to-become-the-industry-leader/articleshow/52205202.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">doing well for the company</a> ever since then. The fortunes of the $9.5 billion company have now been lifted, despite the fact that it was struggling to grow till two years back. In FY16, Infosys revenue rose 9.1% to $9.5 billion, however, it grew 13.3% in constant currency when currency fluctuations are considered. 
 
For these <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-Q4-preview-Despite-seasonal-weakness-Y-o-Y-revenue-growth-and-rise-in-net-profit/articleshow/51827282.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">efforts and results</a>, Sikka will take home a new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-CEO-Vishal-Sikkas-fat-pay-package-to-get-fatter/articleshow/51133586.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">overall compensation</a> of $11 million from the current fiscal, including a base salary of $1 million, $3 million in variable pay, $2 million in restricted stock units (RSUs) and another $5 million in stock options based on the company’s performance. This compensation revision has coincided with his tenure being extended by another two years up to 2021. 
 
However, this extension was not agreed upon by some of the promoters, who withdrew from voting on this resolution, while also arguing that his new remuneration was way against the company's long held beliefs. 
 
Sikka has also changed the company's senior leadership compensation, elevating three executive vice presidents (EVPs), Sandeep Dadlani, head of Americas, Ravi Kumar, chief delivery officer and Mohit Joshi, head of financial services, as presidents. As per ET sources, the salaries of these new presidents would touch a new high of nearly $2 million including stocks and long-term incentives.

Infosys, however, declined from sharing any details of executives' compensation.

Impressed by his stellar performance in past few quarters, Infosys extended tenure of its chief executive Vishal Sikka by another two years till 2021. 
 
Infosys is enjoying its strongest growth period in five years and has even trumped market expectations. 
 
"The company's nomination and remuneration committee and board recognized the outstanding initiatives taken by Dr. Vishal Sikka towards restoring the company to industry leadership, which have already begun to show results. The management under the leadership of Dr. Sikka has drawn up goals for revenue, margins and people productivity for the financial year 2020-21, which are expected to be progressively achieved in the next five years. The board believes that Dr. Sikka's leadership will be essential to achieve these goals," Infosys said in the stock exchange filing. 
 
As Sikka’s tenure got extended, his annual compensation will also be revised. His annual package stands at about $7 million, including stock options. 
 
" After receipt of approvals and on a date that the nomination and remuneration committee shall determine and inform Dr. Sikka, the existing employment agreement shall stand terminated and be superseded by the new employment agreement," said Infosys.

Infosys’ Vishal Sikka is not going anywhere at least till 2021

IT industry, at this time, is facing a lot of issues, leading to the salaries at entry level going down the hill. However, the CEOs from the IT industry have had no effect of this, since they are still earning several hundreds to a thousand times the salaries that a middle employee gets, says an <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/it-ceos-like-vishal-sikka-are-earning-several-times-the-median-employee-remuneration/articleshow/52931439.cms">ET</a> report. 
 
The shareholders at TCS and Infosys have already begun questioning the payments of these CEOs, which as per them are very high. The highest salary is taken home by Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka, and Infosys also has the highest CEO compensation in comparison to median employee remuneration, which is 935.38 times. 
 
In comparison, Wipro's CEO is paid the least, and the company has the lowest ratio of CEO compensation to employee remuneration (260.19 times). 
 
For several years now, the starting salaries of IT entrants have been within the Rs 2.5-3.5-lakh per annum, which has forced some companies to hire B.Sc and a few arts graduates who can support IT people, so that they can continue maintaining low salaries at the bottom of the pyramid.

IT CEOs take home thousand times a maiden employee’s salary

Chief of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TCS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tata Consultancy Services</a> (TCS) N Chandrasekaran’s pay package is definitely an envious one. 
 
The TCS CEO’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=pay+package&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">pay package</a> rose to 20 per cent in FY 2016, this means now he earns whopping Rs 25.6 crore, which is 459 times company's median remuneration. 
 
Chandrasekaran's compensation is also up from 416 times in FY15. 
 
Meanwhile, Chief Financial Officer Rajesh Gopinath's compensation increased around 39% to Rs 2.98 crore. 
 
The median salary increase for TCS' 353,843 employees was 9.2% in the same year. 
 
Meanwhile, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys' Vishal Sikka</a> earned $7.45 million in FY16. His compensation is expected to rise to $11 million a year starting January 2017.

With the month of appraisals ahead, the recent crisis in Infosys isn’t really going down well with the employees. India's second-largest software services exporter has already come under criticism after CEO Vishal Sikka got a hike of 55%. The co founder and IT veteran of the country Narayana Murthy as well as other promoters aren’t content with the present management and have called for an overhaul of the board. 
 
Sikka’s compensation hike that rose to$11 million a year from $7.08 million has made the CEO compensation to median employee remuneration ratio to 935.38 times. 
 
"People are happy with Vishal Sikka but not with his salary,” a Pune-based employee told The Economic Times. 
"Infosys hasn't raised visa requests for the system engineers and senior system engineers. There is a general sense that promotions will be halted or delayed by using these governance issues and results as an excuse,” ET learnt from another employee. 
 
Murthy, in an interview to ET, questioned the actions of Infosys Chairman R Seshasayee and independent director Jeffrey Lehman. 
 
On Thursday, Sikka wrote to employees asking them not to be distracted by speculation about the company's commitment to governance, integrity and values, and highlighted the improvements the company has made in his tenure. Also the recent murder case at Infy’s Pune campus has dented the reputation of the IT exporter to some level.

"The biggest challenge for all of us, not just politicians or bureaucrats, is that we, Indians, have the highest ego per unit of achievement. I would humbly request, we be open-minded to those who have performed better than us," he said.

He said that he has worked with so many governments in India, but somehow things never move fast, a reason of which could be Indians’ know-it-all attitude. 
 
He also added that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Nandan-Nilenkani-invests-in-this-Bangalore-based-eye-care-startup/articleshow/52886267.cms">Nandan Nilekani </a>(co-founder, Infosys and the force behind Aadhaar cards) also went through a similar experience while he was working with the establishment in Delhi. 
 
"Nandan was giving a lecture on his experience in designing and implementing Aadhaar sometime back. Somebody asked him how difficult was it to work in Delhi," Murthy said. To this, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Nandan-Nilekani-funds-robotics-firm-Systemantics/articleshow/51222275.cms">Nilekani</a>'s response was that the bureaucrats say we know this, which is the first hurdle that is to be crossed. The toughest hurdle, however, is if they say we are already doing this, which doesn’t leave much to do. 
 
In contrast to this, Murthy said, he had a different experience while working as an IT advisor to the Thai PM, more than a decade back. "They (Thai officials) would make a presentation and I would give suggestions. They would write those down. The next time I went there, they would show me how they've (the suggestions) been implemented," he said. 
 
In our country, however, he has never seen anyone writing down any suggestions, maybe because as he likes to put it, “they already know it.”
