World champion woman boxer and <keyword id="11932" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="olympic" source="Orion">Olympic</keyword> bronze medallist MC Mary Kom will head the government-appointed five-member <keyword id="199113" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="oversight-committee" source="Orion">Oversight Committee</keyword> for the Wrestling Federation of India (<keyword id="6437897" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wfi" source="Orion">WFI</keyword>) which will have Olympic bronze medallist grappler <keyword id="157783" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yogeshwar-dutt" source="Orion">Yogeshwar Dutt</keyword> and former India badminton star Trupti Murgunde as key members. Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur on Monday announced the composition of the Oversight Committee which will also include the former CEO of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Capt Rajagopalan and former SAI Executive Director (Teams) Radhika Sreeman. Murgunde is a member of the government's Mission Olympic Cell member. "As I had earlier announced, the Oversight Committee will not only handle the day-to-day functioning of the WFI but also inquire into the serious allegations made by the wrestlers and submit a report," Sports Minister Anurag Thakur told the media on Monday. Thakur had on Saturday announced the formation of the Oversight Committee to handle the day-to-day activities of the WFI after a group of wrestlers led by Olympians Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dhaiya and Deepak Punia sat on a protest at the Jantar Mantar here alleging many irregularities by WFI including mismanagement of governance and sexual harassment of women grapplers by coaches and the WFI president. At the same time, the government also suspended WFI assistant secretary <keyword id="2210825" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vinod-tomar" source="Orion">Vinod Tomar</keyword>. On Monday, Thakur informed that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been asked to cease functioning as WFI president till the inquiry by the Oversight Committee is completed and has been told not to interfere in the day-to-day functioning of the WFI. The Indian wrestlers had called off their protest late on Friday evening after a second meeting at Thakur's residence in the national capital. The meeting lasted beyond midnight, following which wrestler Bajrang Punia announced to the media that the other wrestlers are calling off the protest after assurance of action from Thakur against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The wrestlers have been staging a protest since Wednesday, accusing WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment of women wrestlers, sponsorship fund embezzlement, and athletes' mismanagement. The <keyword id="11806043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-wrestling-contingent">Indian wrestling contingent</keyword> at the <keyword id="2700431" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tokyo-Olympic">Tokyo Olympic</keyword> Games was in for a major embarrassment as the International Olympic Committee (<keyword id="6354733" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ioc">IOC</keyword>) cancelled the accreditation of the foreign coach of 86kg grappler <keyword id="2627438" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deepak-Punia">Deepak Punia</keyword> -- who had lost his bronze-medal bout to a San Marino opponent -- after the trainer misbehaved with the referee for the bout. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary-general <keyword id="150258" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajeev-Mehta">Rajeev Mehta</keyword> in a late-evening tweet on Friday wrote, "Indian Wrestling team's foreign assistant coach (Belarusian) Mr Murad Gaidarov who was involved in an uncalled incident of assault on one of the match referees, is being withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympic Village immediately and is being called back to India on the latest flight." Mehta added that, "Murad Gaidarov is removed from the Olympic Village and will be transported back to India on 10.30 flight from Tokyo." Confirming the incident to IANS, IOA treasurer Anandeshwar <keyword id="6361584" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="pandey">Pandey</keyword> told IANS from Tokyo that he was there at the venue when the incident took place on Thursday, adding that Gaidarov had yelled and misbehaved with the match referee during the bronze-medal contest between Punia and Myles Amine of San Marino, which the latter won 4-2. Pandey said that the match referee had lodged a formal complaint with the International Wrestling Federation, which in turn informed the Tokyo Games organisers and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who issued a letter to the Indian contingent's chef de mission Birender Prasad Baishya. "The coach (Gaidarov) had lodged an appeal when Punia was trailing 2-3, but it was turned down and the opponent got an additional point, which resulted in the Indian wrestler losing by a 2-4 margin," said Pandey, adding that, following the bout there was an altercation with the match referee. "The IOC cancelled Gaidarov's accreditation and the chef de mission told him not to leave his hotel room and he was booked in the next flight out of Tokyo," Pandey told IANS. Asked if the IOA will take disciplinary action against the coach, Pandey said, the issue was between the <keyword id="110074" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wrestling-Federation-of-India">Wrestling Federation of India</keyword> and the foreign coach and that the IOA had nothing to do with it. "The IOC has given Mr Baishya the letter cancelling the accreditation to Gaidarov and the coach is leaving Tokyo," added Pandey. Tokyo Olympics: Indian wrestler Deepak Punia's coach's accreditation cancelled for allegedly assaulting a match official

By Amanpreet Singh New Delhi, Apr 29 () India's foreign wrestling coaches Andrew Cook and Temo Kazarashvili left India with half of their monthly salary for March in their pockets and are wondering if they will be paid their dues along with the remuneration for the current month. Women's team coach Cook left for Seattle in the USA on March 19 after the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) called off the national camp in Lucknow on March 17 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Diminutive Kazarshvili, the 1982 World Champion, who coaches India's Greco Roman wrestlers, also left for Georgia soon after the men's camp in Sonepat was halted. "It's not my choice to be back home. They approved everything before I left as I filled out the forms. I received my March salary and it was only half. When I inquired, they said they are holding my pay," Cook told from Seattle. "I have received nothing since I am home. They want us to be on Zoom calls but no pay. How fair is that? This is a joke. They are not honouring the contract," he said. Cook claimed that he has written e-mails to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) officials as well as WFI officials. "There is no response from the SAI leadership but I have been assured by WFI that I will get my dues and the contracts will also be extended till 2021 since the Olympics have been pushed by a year," he said. WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar confirmed to that salaries of the coaches have been blocked but assured they will be released soon. "I think the Regional SAI centre officials felt that since camp was called off mid March, the coaches will be paid half of the salary they get. But we have told them that it's annual contract and we have to pay them on monthly basis," Tomar said. "We had written to them towards the end of March, explaining that salary is not based on number of days at the camp. The delay in payment could be due to the absence of officials who are the signing authority in SAI. "The coaches have to be paid in foreign currency, so maybe that's why the delay. There is some paper work involved," Tomar explained. Cook gets a monthly remuneration of USD 4500 while Kazarshvili gets USD 4000. Cook said he is desperate to get back to the mat and is in touch with his wards. "It's getting crazy (sitting at home). I want to get back to mat. I keep sharing technical stuff with them. Kiran (76kg) is very active. Pooja Dhanda, Sakshi Malik and 10 others are there in the chat," he said. reached out to Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) CEO Rajesh Rajagopalan for a comment but he did not respond. Rajagopalan is WFI's contact point for their issues. However, source in the SAI said that issue is being looked into. "A salary matrix has been proposed to minimise the impact of this issue and is being approved for implementation. (Eds: Collating relevant stories ) New Delhi, May 18 () The shooting federation got busy firming up its plans, wary paddlers were asked to report for training while the boxing body was consulting team doctors to figure a way forward as Indian sports sought resumption amid relaxation in the continuing COVID-19 lockdown. A day after the Ministry of Home Affairs allowed sports complexes and stadia to open without spectators, National Sports Federations were deliberating ways to facilitate training of at least the Olympic-bound athletes. The lockdown has been extended till May 31. "I'm happy to inform sportspersons and all concerned that sports activities will be conducted in sports complexes and stadia strictly in accordance with MHA guidelines and that of the States in which they are situated," Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted. Questions that dominated the discourse at federations were how would athletes be brought to training complexes amid travel restrictions and how testing for COVID-19 and quarantine be done for those who make it. The body with most money, the BCCI, does not plan to organise training camps for its contracted players despite the clearance but will coordinate with state associations to resume practice at the local level in the fourth phase of the lockdown. Others have, however, got thinking. "I can say that training can start for a minimum of 13 weight categories. In each category, two wrestlers can join the camp," Wrestling Federation of India's Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar told . The wrestling camps are held in Patiala and Sonepat centres of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The shooting federation said it was already working on a resumption plan given that the sport is individual and ensuring social distancing won't be an issue. "We shall firm up plans to resume athlete training and competitions accordingly soon," National Rifle Association of India Raninder Singh told . The Table Tennis Federation of India sought written consent from its top 16 players to join a training camp but the wary paddlers said they would prefer to wait a while. Most players, including leading ones such as Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan, said they were not comfortable travelling from their base in Chennai anytime soon amid the pandemic. TT camps are held at NIS Patiala, Sonepat and Kolkata. But with flights still not permitted and the Railways conducting only limited operations, the logistical problems have also come to the fore. "How will the top athletes join camps? They are at home right now. Even some coaches have gone home," said a boxing federation official. "The boxers who join back will also have to be tested and then quarantine as well. I think nothing can resume before the lockdown officially ends," he added. The federation officials spent the day conducting online meetings with doctors attached with the elite boxers to chalk out the medical protocol. Nine Indian boxers have qualified for the olympics and they are the ones likely to resume training first. According to the proposed Standard Operating Procedure formulated by SAI, no sparring would be allowed for contact sports for the time being. "That's a given," said the federation official. Hockey India has sent its training plan to SAI for approval. The Olympic-bound men's and women's teams have been based at SAI's Bengaluru centre since mid-March, when the lockdown first came into force. They have talked about being home sick but have largely coped well. Others like the weightlifting body are continuing to wait for fresh instructions from the sports ministry, which has been vigorously advocating a resumption of training for elite athletes by the end of this month. Elimination of low-ventilation change rooms, disinfection of training equipment after every use, and usage of gyms in shifts are some of the measures that the SAI has proposed to counter the COVID-19 threat once training resumes. It has also suggested making the Arogya Setu app mandatory for all athletes and staff, strict social distancing at training venues, use of PPE kits by medical practitioners on duty, and stringent supervision of athletes' health.
