Presently, the fuel being used, which is a combination of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, is heavier and needs to be stored at -253 degree Celsius. ISRO will reportedly flight-test the semi-cryogenic engine by 2021 if everything goes as planned. "Kerosene is a fuel lighter than the conventional combination of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen but it gives higher thrust. Therefore kerosene occupies less space and more propellant can be packed in the semi-cryogenic engine's fuel compartment. However, liquid oxygen will be retained as oxidiser. The advantage of using this semi-cryogenic engine is the payload capacity of the launch vehicle will increase from four tonnes to six tonnes. This kind of rocket with the semi-cryogenic engine can therefore take heavier satellites into space and can also be used for interplanetary missions and deep space missions," Dr <keyword id="2003919" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="K-Sivan">K Sivan</keyword>, Director of Thiruvananthapuram-based <keyword id="6382619" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vikram-Sarabhai-Space-Centre">Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre</keyword> told TOI. "We will only replace the second stage of the launch vehicle like <keyword id="138322" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GSLV">GSLV</keyword> Mk-III, which now uses liquid fuel, with the semi-cryogenic engine. The rocket will retain the cryogenic upper third stage," he continued. "Space agencies of many countries like the US and Russia have been using the semi-cryogenic engine as it gives high thrust. In fact, Falcon-9 of SpaceX (the first US commercial company whose rocket has made multiple flights to the <keyword id="3242677" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="international-space-centre">International Space Centre</keyword>) has also been using the semi-cryogenic engine technology," Dr Sivan added. The semi-cryogenic engine project was cleared by the Union Cabinet in 2008 at an estimated cost of Rs 1,798 crore. While initially the technology was to be developed in 2014, the project got delayed.

Commenting on the successful step of separating ‘Vikram’, the lander from the orbiter Chandrayaan-2 on Monday, Madhavan Nair said it was a phenomenal achievement. He added that from now onwards, the rest of the mission ahead of us leading to soft-landing on the moon is even more a tougher job. Nair said, "We are one step closer to having us soft-land on the lunar surface and so far so good; all the mission sequences have gone off well, computation, as well as planning, have worked well and now the lander is in elliptical orbit". Chandrayaan 2 mission gets tough From this point, the rest of the mission to be accomplished is indeed a tougher one, says Madhavan Nair. There are onboard cameras mapping the moon’s terrain and forwarding the pictures to the ISRO’s center. The scientists have to carefully select the right location suitable for the successful soft-landing of Vikram. Saying that this is going to be a highly challenging job in an interview to the press, the former chairman added, "It's a very, very complex operation. I don't think any nation has done a similar operation trying to have real-time pictures and then try to have an on-board computer implement autonomously the function of the landing. It's going to be a remarkable event and we are all looking forward to that event. I am sure it will be a 100% success". Soft landing on the Moon Describing the process of soft-landing on the moon’s surface in an interesting way, Nair said, it is comparable to something like a flying saucer hovering over the surface and then slowly descending as we come across in a science fiction. ISRO will be implementing almost a sequence similar to this with virtually no real-time controls on the ground. Giving the technical details of the soft-landing anticipated, Madhavan Nair said, "...Only on-board cameras would look for the right location and once it matches, there are five rocket engines which will precisely control by first reducing the speed and then making it virtually float at that point and have some lateral movement in such a way that it goes just to the location, slowly guide it to the landing site". To accomplish the mission successfully, different factors including the laser ranging systems, the software governing the entire operation and the onboard computers have to work in perfect coordination. The man behind Chandrayaan 1 thinks India's second mission to the moon is the 'most complex' ever

Chennai, <keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword> has lined up a series of exploration missions including to Mars, Venus and to the Moon again, apart from the maiden human spaceflight programme, Chairman <keyword id="2618685" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="s-somanath" source="Orion">S Somanath</keyword> said. The space agency also has drawn up plans to launch missions for studying climate and weather conditions of the Earth, the space agency chief said, speaking to reporters on Sunday. Besides, ISRO is also working on regular scientific missions including communication, remote sensing satellites, Somanath, who is also the Secretary of the Department of Space, said here. Speaking about the Gaganyaan programme, he said the maiden TV-D1 test flight is scheduled for October 21. Elaborating about the upcoming missions undertaken by the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency, he said, "We have exploration missions. We have plans to go to Mars, Venus, again sometime to the Moon. We also have programmes to look at the climate and weather of Earth." Stressing that the scientists at ISRO would be focused on taking up regular missions like launching satellites for communications and remote sensing, he said scientific missions are also in the pipeline to look at issues like aeronomy, thermal imaging, and climate change impact assessment. "So many things are there and we are very busy doing all of this," he said. To a query about whether scientists were able to receive any kind of response from the Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, which successfully made a soft-landing on the surface of the Moon on August 23, he said Vikram had done its job very well during the lunar day (equivalent of 14 Earth days) at which time it was programmed to perform its functions. "It is happily sleeping on the Moon. It has done its job very well. Maybe if it wishes to wake up, let it wake up. Until then, we will wait," he said. ISRO made efforts to re-establish communication with rover Pragyan and lander Vikram after they were put into sleep mode in September following the onset of night on the Moon. "No signals have been received from them. Efforts to establish contact will continue," ISRO had said. After the historic landing on August 23, lander Vikram and rover Pragyan performed different tasks on the lunar surface, including detecting the presence of sulphur and recording relative temperature. About ISRO's maiden mission to study the Sun, Somanath said the spacecraft is 'very healthy' and is on a 110-day long journey to the Lagrange point L1 and is expected to reach the intended destination by "middle of January." "It is a long journey. It is almost 110 days of journey and it has covered some distance now. We corrected a little bit of its trajectory, because early correction is important to reach the L1 point. After tracking, we find it is going in the right direction towards the L1 point," he said. Observing that the rocket is on a 'complex travel', Somanath said, "It takes almost another 70-75 days further to reach. By the middle of January, it will reach there. After that, we will make some corrections to make it enter into the Halo orbit at the L1 point." "After that instruments will be switched on and it will start doing the scientific data streaming. Currently, everything is very healthy on Aditya L1," he said. Aditya-L1 was launched on September 2, and it is the first Indian space-based observatory that will study the Sun from a halo orbit around the first <keyword id="19149915" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun-earth-lagrangian" source="Orion">Sun-Earth Lagrangian</keyword> point (L1), which is located roughly 1.5 million km from the Earth. ISRO 'very busy' with various exploration missions in pipeline: Chairman

LM is set to descend to a slightly lower orbit upon a deboosting planned for tomorrow around 1600 Hrs., IST," Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ISRO" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword>) tweeted. According to ISRO, the lander was separated from the propulsion module at an orbit of 153 km x 163 km around the <keyword id="42440" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="moon" source="Orion">moon</keyword>. Meanwhile, the Propulsion Module continues its journey in the current orbit for months/years, said ISRO. "The SHAPE payload onboard it would perform spectroscopic study of the Earth's atmosphere and measure the variations in polarization from the clouds on Earth - to accumulate signatures of Exoplanets that would qualify for our habitability! This payload is SHAPEd by U R Rao Satellite Centre/ISRO, Bengaluru," ISRO added. The main purpose of India's third moon mission costing about Rs 600 crore is to land the lander softly on the moon. The Chandrayaan-2 mission failed as the lander called 'Vikram' crashed on to the moon. According to the ISRO, the lander is expected to make a soft-landing near the South Pole of the moon on August 23 at 5.47 p.m. The lander will descend to the moon from a height of about 100 km from the moon's surface. The soft landing is a tricky issue as it involves a series of complex manoeuvres consisting of rough and fine braking. Imaging of the landing site region prior to landing will be done for finding safe and hazard-free zones. Subsequent to the soft landing, the six-wheeled rover will roll out and carry out experiments on the lunar surface for a period of one lunar day which is equal to 14 earth days. The Chandrayaan-3 was put into orbit on July 14 in a copybook style by India's heavy lift rocket LVM3. The spacecraft completed orbiting around the earth and headed towards the moon on August 1. On that day a successful perigee-firing performed at ISTRAC, the ISRO had injected the spacecraft into the translunar orbit.

The company said it has received approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDCSCO) for the drug indicated for diabetes patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Dapagliflozin is the first and only anti-diabetic drug approved to significantly reduce the risk of sustained eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate), cardiovascular deaths and hospitalisations due to heart failure in adults with progressive chronic kidney disease, the drug firm said. The approval is applicable for both diabetic and non-diabetic CKD patients, it added. CKD is one of the leading causes of hospitalisation globally and in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, representing a significant clinical and economic burden. AstraZeneca India gets approval to market anti-diabetes drug

French scientists have revived a 48,500-year-old <keyword id="15655645" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zombie-virus-buried-under-a-frozen-lake" source="Orion">zombie virus buried under a frozen lake</keyword> in Russia until now! New York Post is a daily tabloid newspaper published in New York City. New York Post has quoted a viral study which is yet to be peer-reviewed. "The situation would be much more disastrous in the case of plant, animal, or human diseases caused by the revival of an ancient unknown virus," reads the "viral" study. According to the preliminary report, global warming is irrevocably thawing enormous swathes of permafrost -- permanently frozen ground that covers one-quarter of the Northern Hemisphere. This has had the unsettling effect of "releasing organic materials frozen for up to a million years" - possibly deadly germs included. "Part of this organic matter also consists of revived cellular microbes (prokaryotes, unicellular eukaryotes) as well as viruses that remained dormant since prehistorical times," the researchers write. According to the New York Post, scientists have, perhaps strangely, revived some of these so-called "zombie viruses" from the Siberian permafrost in order to investigate the awakening critters. The oldest, Pandoravirus yedoma, was 48,500 years old, a record age for a frozen virus returning to a form where it may infect other creatures. This breaks the previous record of a 30,000-year-old virus identified in Siberia by the same scientists in 2013. The new strain is one of 13 viruses described in the study, each with its own genome, according to Science Alert. While the Pandoravirus was discovered at the bottom of a lake in Yukechi Alas, Yakutia, Russia, others have been discovered everywhere from mammoth fur to Siberian wolf intestines. Scientists discovered that all of the "zombie viruses" have the potential to be infectious and hence pose a "health danger" after researching the live cultures. They believe that COVID-19-style pandemics will become more common in the future as melting permafrost releases long-dormant viruses like a microbial Captain America, as per New York Post. "It is therefore legitimate to ponder the risk of ancient viral particles remaining infectious and getting back into circulation by the thawing of ancient permafrost layers," they write. Unfortunately, it's a vicious cycle as organic matter released by the thawing ice decomposes into carbon dioxide and methane, further enhancing the greenhouse effect and accelerating the melt. New York Post reports that the newly thawed virus might only be the tip of the epidemiological iceberg as there are likely more hibernating viruses yet to be discovered. More research is needed to assess the level of infectiousness of these unknown viruses when exposed to light, heat, oxygen, and other outside environmental variables. Two days before <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> assumes the presidency of G20, External Affairs Minister (EAM) <keyword id="491850" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="s-jaishankar" source="Orion">S Jaishankar</keyword> on Tuesday said New Delhi would like to use the presidency of the group to reflect interests and concerns today of the global south. <keyword id="236448" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jaishankar" source="Orion">Jaishankar</keyword> made these remarks during the annual flagship event co-hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs and Carnegie India. The theme for this year's Summit is Geopolitics of Technology. "India would like to use the presidency of G20 in many ways to reflect interests and concerns today of the global south as we feel they're being sidelined and not just be a voice but would like to take into global south something we've tested and prepared at home," said EAM at Global Tech Summit. He made the remarks during a question-and-answer session at the event. On the issue of climate change, Jaishankar said, "Since 2014 there's been a different kind of approach to climate change in terms of our policies, advocacies, energy mix... When it comes to climate tech, India has a range of possibilities... There are Indian businesses in climate in COP now." "We're actually already seeing the impact of climate events and climate change on politics. An example would be the big debate today in <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword> is if it will be able to survive the winter from the energy perspective," he added. The minister noted that there is an intensification in big power competition and many agreements of the past will not continue. "We have already seen in the last few days, there are agreements which are not being renewed. It will become much harder to have new understandings," he said. Underscoring the importance of data in national security he said, "Where our data is going is no longer matter of business and economics but of national security. Everything is being weaponised in this world of ours, I have to change my approach of where I should be protective of my interests." He noted how India has started engagement on Indo Pacific Economic Framework. "US has been upfront on it. There is big technology and supply chain element to it. You have IPEF, <keyword id="887681" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="quad" source="Orion">Quad</keyword> and a lot of bilateral discussions with different partners and big debates going on in our own country," he said. On the impact of the Ukraine conflict, he said the war has sucked up the oxygen in Europe. We will hopefully be doing our meeting in some more time." Speaking at the seventh edition of the Global Technology Summit in New Delhi, the External Affairs Minister underscored the importance of technology in geopolitics and the emerging world order. "We people, especially in India in the last two years, have woken up to the fact, where does our data reside? Who processes and harvests our data and what do they do with it? That is a very very key question," Jaishnakar said. The minister emphasised that countries have fashioned their national security decisions by applying technology. "When we think today of the competitive politics sharper contradictions, I think we should be more and more cognisant," he said. Jaishankar also pointed out that India cannot be agnostic about technology, saying that there is a very strong political connotation that is inbuilt into technology. Vikram deployed from an orbiting spacecraft earlier in the day to make its descent, and everything was going as planned until about <a href="https://twitter.com/VishnuNDTV/status/1170083163818737664">1.3 miles</a> (2.1 kilometers) above the surface of the moon's south pole.At that point, the Vikram lander spacecraft diverged from its expected trajectory. Moments later, spacecraft operators control lost contact with its communications systems. Mission control fell silent, and somebody patted India's space program director, K. Sivan, on the back.This occurred during a landing phase that Sivan had previously said would be "15 minutes of terror," the New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/06/science/india-moon-landing-chandrayaan-2.html">reported</a>. India lost contact with its moon lander, and an astronomer thinks the spacecraft crashed into the lunar surface

<ul><li>Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief, K Sivan, has confirmed for the first time that the agency is working on <keyword id="8011900" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandrayaan-3">Chandrayaan 3</keyword>, India's second attempt to land on the Moon. </li><li>Sivan stated that Chandrayaan 3 and <keyword id="6797456" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaganyaan">Gaganyaan</keyword> will be ISRO's top priorities in 2020.</li><li>The budget for Chandrayaan 3 is ₹6.51 billion, less than that of Chandrayaan 2 — already lauded for being the cheapest Moon mission ever.</li></ul>India's second mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan 2, might have <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-fails-in-the-final-seconds-of-descent-to-moons-south-pole/articleshow/71018196.cms">fallen short of expectations</a> but the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing to take another crack at it. Sivan also disclosed that ISRO has successfully acquired the land needed to set up a second spaceport in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Even since then, rumours of Chandrayaan-3 have been making the rounds. However, this is the first time that the ISRO official has confirmed that it's in the works. "One major announcement I wanted to make here, officially, is that Chandrayaan-3 is government-approved. The project is now formed. The activities for Chandrayaan-3 are going very smoothly," Sivan said. Chandrayaan 3 will cost even less than Chandrayaan 2 Sivan explained that Chandrayaan 2's orbiter, successfully circling the Moon at an altitude of 100 kilometres, has the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2s-orbiter-has-seven-and-a-half-years-to-scan-the-surface-of-the-moon/articleshow/71027327.cms">life-span of up to seven years</a>. That is why Chandrayaan 3, will only be carrying a rover and a lander. This will also reduce the cost of the project to ₹6.15 billion rupees instead of the ₹10 billion it cost to launch Chandrayaan 2 — an amount that was already lauded for behind less than the budget of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-cheaper-than-avengers-endgame-what-the-foreign-press-says/articleshow/70208309.cms">Avengers Endgame</a>. The one thing that isn't going to change is the the ‘<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/indias-most-powerful-launcher-will-carry-chandrayaan-2-on-moon-mission/articleshow/70202043.cms">Bahubali</a>' rocket. India's ‘fat boy' geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) will be used, yet again, to launch Chandrayaan 3 towards the Moon. No final launch date for Chandrayaan 3 or Gangayaan While Chandrayaan 3 will be one of ISRO's top priorities in 2020, it's unlikely that the actual launch will take place this year. According to Sivan, it could take up to another 14 to 16 months to complete the spacecraft. He predicts that the launch will only happen in 2021. Even Gangayaan is unlikely to get off the ground in 2020. Sivan did not disclose a launch date for the mission other than it will happen "very soon". Even though these two missions might not be taking off in 2020, ISRO has 5 confirmed launches of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) scheduled this year. This ARC would buy the bank’s bad loans at a discount, help it clear the balance sheets, and start growing from there. According to the bank’s chief executive, Prashant Kumar, Yes Bank was hoping to deposit nearly ₹50,000 crore of bad loans to the ARC. However, the RBI turned down that request in March <a href="https://www.livemint.com/industry/banking/rbi-rejects-yes-bank-s-proposal-to-set-up-arc-11615722649056.html">citing</a> a conflict of interest. “Once the stock climbed back up [last year], they [Yes Bank] told investors they would want to apply for a separate ARC and they were confident of getting permission from the RBI, where they would basically park all the bad assets. But that didn’t happen,” said Emkay Global. However, according to Kumar, the option of setting up an ARC is still on the table. "That option is still alive and we would be waiting for more clarification to come from regulator after the report of the expert committee which they have made would come out," he said. Meanwhile, experts believe that Yes Bank may go for another round of funding in the near future to try and shore up its provisions as the second wave of pandemic bears down. “Market discounts all the knowledge that is known as of today. If new information comes out tomorrow, then the stock will react accordingly,” said an analyst on the condition of anonymity. Chandrayaan 2 is set to take off next week in the wee hours of the morning — July 15 at 2:15am Indian Standard Time (IST). And, it's going to be long awaited stepping stone to build on the discovery of water by Chandrayaan 1. Very little is known about water on the Moon and mapping the lunar satellite's South Pole could be the key to solving that mystery. Confirming the location of water on the Moon and its quantities has the potential to serve as a solution for sustaining human habitation on the moon for longer missions. It can also be a last resort measure to create rocket fuel for astraunauts to find their way back to Earth. The mission will attempt a soft landing on a high plain between two of the Moon’s craters on the South Pole — Manzinus C and Simpelius N. It is expected to last a total of 15 days once ISRO successfully lands on the Moon. India’s second lunar mission will be carrying 14 payloads abroad its 3 modules — the orbiter, the lander called Vikram and Pragyan, the rover. The orbiter will be doing most of the heavy lifting with eight of the 13 payloads resting on its shoulders, while the lander will be carrying three payloads and the Pragyan will carry two when <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayan-2-lunar-mission-to-launch-in-july-by-isro/articleshow/69139095.cms">they launch into space on July 15.</a> Together, the spacecraft will have a mass of 3.8 tonnes. Early space The Moon being Earth’s neighbor definitely makes it more convenient to pop by but the planet’s natural satellite is also the <a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/water-moon">best link</a> to the Earth’s early history — not to mention that it’s an ‘<a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/chandrayaan2-home">undisturbed record</a>’ of the Solar System’s environment as it evolved to become what it is today. Even when looking for water, one of the questions that ISRO will try and answer is how that water came to be on the moon in the first place. Bucket full of water Evidence of water molecules on the Moon was discovered by Chandrayaan 1 opening up new possibilities for future human spaceflight missions to the moon or even setting up a habitat where more experiments can be conducted to unveil the mysteries of the Moon. The issue with taking water from Earth into space is that its <a href="https://phys.org/news/2019-03-space.html">very heavy</a> — not to mention expensive. It’s one of the primary reasons that the International Space Station (<a href="https://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2000/ast02nov_1">ISS</a>) has in-built mechanism to recycle and ration the water onboard. Finding water on the moon also gives future missions a future reservoir of hydrogen and oxygen to draw from to create rocket propellant. Estimates by NASA suggest that there could be more than <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/centers/ames/missions/archive/lunarprospector.html">300 million tonnes of water</a> ice on the moon. It may not be in the same form that we find it here on Earth but it will still prove to be useful. Uncharted territory Exploring the origins of the Moon and the Solar System as well trying to find water on the Moon are ISRO’s primary objectives, which is why the Moon’s South Pole also has strategic advantage. For one, it’s uncharted territory. Most of the lunar South Pole remains shrouded in darkness because the shadow over it is considerably larger than the one on the Moon’s North Pole. For Chandrayaan 2, an area that’s protected from the Sun has significance because the craters in the region are cold traps, which contain water and ice from comets, meteorites and solar wind induced iron reduction. And since the area is so preserved, it also could unveil fossil records from the early Solar System.
