Indian embassy in Nepal has handed over 275 <keyword id="6360114" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lpg" source="Orion">LPG</keyword> gas stoves, cylinders and other accessories to underprivileged families in <keyword id="17624714" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tirhut-rural-municipality" source="Orion">Tirhut Rural Municipality</keyword> of Saptari district in the Himalayan country. Consul General of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> Nitesh Kumar and President of Nepal-India Women Friendship Society (NIFWS) and Member of House of Representatives <keyword id="2375773" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="chanda-chaudhary" source="Orion">Chanda Chaudhary</keyword> handed over the cylinders on in Saptari district on June 3. A total of 3,000 sets of LPG stoves and 14.2 Kg cylinders and other accessories like regulators and pipes were gifted by the Government of India to underprivileged families of the districts of Sarlahi, Rautahat and Saptari. Approximately, 500 sets were distributed in Kaudena Municipality of Sarlahi district on April 19 this year. The gifting of stoves and cylinders is one of the 75 projects being inaugurated this year in Nepal as part of "India@75 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav". The Project is inspired by the <keyword id="8775519" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pradhan-mantri-ujjwala" source="Orion">Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala</keyword> <keyword id="6443343" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yojana" source="Orion">Yojana</keyword> (PMUY) of the Government of India which is a flagship scheme with the objective to make clean cooking fuel such as LPG available to the rural and deprived households which were otherwise using traditional cooking fuels. <keyword id="196298" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vijay-yadav" source="Orion">Vijay Yadav</keyword>, Chairman of Tirhut Rural Municipality; <keyword id="17624713" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="narendra-karki" source="Orion">Narendra Karki</keyword>, SP of Saptari; <keyword id="17624715" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="radha-kayasth" source="Orion">Radha Kayasth</keyword>, Vice-President of Nepal-India Women Friendship Society; local journalists and other stakeholders were present on the occasion. The families were identified through the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) list in coordination with District Administration Office (DAO) and local level. Social welfare councils have also been roped in for the distribution process. The government of India has approved Nepalese Rupees 2,40,90,000 for this purpose. Consul General congratulated the beneficiaries and noted that the use of traditional cooking fuel is detrimental to the health of rural women and the environment. The gifting of these LPG gas stoves and cylinders reflected the continued support of India to Nepal. NIWFS President Chanda Chaudhary thanked the <keyword id="44734" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-government" source="Orion">Indian Government</keyword> for its continued developmental support to women. Distribution of these LPG gas stoves, gas cylinders and accessories will replace the use of traditional cooking fuels like firewood, coal, and cow-dung cakes, which produce heavy smoke and cause health hazards. Since 2003, India has taken up over 535 High Impact Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal in various sectors Health, Education, Drinking Water and Irrigation, Electrification, etc. and has completed 476 projects and 59 ongoing projects. Amongst these, 81 projects have been undertaken in Province-2, including 19 projects in Sarlahi; 5 projects in Rautahat and 9 projects in Saptari Districts. In addition to these, 87 ambulances to various health posts and 3 school buses have been gifted in these three districts by India. As close neighbours, India and Nepal share wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of this project reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal for the upliftment of its people. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A study found that taurine supplements helped monkeys become healthier and mice and worms live longer.</li><li>Mice given taurine lived up to 12% longer than those who weren't. </li></ul>A nutrient produced by animals including humans could be the key to a longer and healthier life, according to a new study.The purpose of the study published on Thursday in the journal <a href="https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abn9257" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Science </a>was to uncover whether levels of taurine — yes, the stuff you get in <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/diet-nutrition/are-energy-drinks-bad-for-you">energy drinks</a> — in the blood affects <a href="https://www.insider.com/longevity-experts-keep-biological-age-young-anti-aging-2023-5">aging.</a> So the team measured concentrations of the amino acid during the aging process in several animals, and also studied the potential effects of supplementing it.Like humans, both mice and monkeys naturally produce taurine and levels decline with age — the study found that taurine levels in elderly people were 80% lower than in younger humans.The team gave mice daily doses of taurine, and found they lived 10 to 12% — or three to four months — longer than those who weren't. They made similar findings in worms. Taurine also appeared to have benefits including suppressing age-related weight gain in female mice, increasing energy levels and bone mass, improving strength, and reducing depression-like and anxious behaviors.The team gave taurine supplements to middle-aged rhesus monkeys and saw similar health benefits, although the study wasn't long enough to measure longevity.The study also found that a bout of exercise appeared to increase concentrations of taurine in the blood of both athletes and sedentary people, which could explain the antiaging effects of exercise, the authors said.<h2>We don't know if taurine can help humans live longer </h2>Vijay Yadav, the study's lead author and professor of genetics and development at Columbia University, said: "This study suggests that taurine could be an elixir of life within us that helps us live longer and healthier lives."But this does not mean we should be knocking back energy drinks in the name of longevity just yet. Not only because they tend to be filled with sugar — drinking lots of sugary drinks is<a href="https://www.insider.com/sugar-coffee-soda-could-be-linked-to-early-death-2019-3"> linked to early death</a> — but it has not yet been tested on human lifespan.Only a randomized clinical trial in people will provide answers, Yadav said.Taurine is used in the body for energy production and to process salts and minerals. The study comes on the back of previous research that found taurine deficiency during early life in some animals was linked to problems with skeletal muscles, eyes, and the nervous system in similar ways to aging-related disorders. Ilaria Bellantuono, professor of musculoskeletal aging at the University of Sheffield, UK, who was not involved in the study, said a clinical trial on humans is vital to see if taurine supplements are effective, if there are side effects to taking them, how often they need to be taken, and from what age.She also said that the research was conducted on mice the age equivalent of 50-year-old humans who were still quite healthy, and so more research needs to be done in older animals with more signs of aging.We can't actually infer that much from this study on the impact it will have on humans, she said, and we definitely should not start taking taurine supplements yet until more research has been carried out.
