The bitter feud between <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Cyrus+Mistry+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Cyrus Mistry </a>and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+group+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tata group </a>has been in the headlines for quite sometime. Mistry may now challenge the power of Tata Trusts to influence business decisions at <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>.<br />
<br /> The trust, which is controlled by <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, owns nearly two-third of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> and the rest is owned by Mistry family's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Shapoorji+Pallonji+group.+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Shapoorji Pallonji group. </a>This has led to concerns about the governance structure of the trusts.<br />

"A charitable trust is allowed to hold investments but cannot directly be involved in business plans. It is about institutionalising a role and ensuring proper governance. The chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Trusts should be different, so that nobody has unbridled power," an executive close to Mistry told ET.<br />
<br />
The trust, however, said that it doesn’t interfere with day to day activities of Tata Sons but need certain information to make sure that the investments are safe.<br />
<br />
"We don't interfere with the day-to-day governance of Tata Sons. There is certain information we require from Tata Sons to make sure our investments are safe as it the primary source of our philanthropic operations," said VR Mehta, a trustee on the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.<br />
<br />
A few months before Mistry's ouster, directors on the nomination and remuneration committee (NRC) of Tata Sons - Ronen Sen, Vijay Singh and Farida Khambhata - said at a board meeting that it may be desirable to seek legal opinion on the interplay of relevant entities such as Tata Sons, Tata Trusts and group companies.<br />
<br />
Mehta also said when Mistry over as the chairman of Tata Sons, a pact was signed between the holding company and the Tata Trusts clarifying the relationship between the two.<br />
<br />
However, people close to Mistry have denied the existence of any such agreement.<br />
<br />
Public trusts are usually barred from holding shares of commercial business by the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act's 1973 amendment. They are allowed to invest in banks and postal savings accounts and can otherwise lose tax exemptions.<br />

Cyrus Mistry may drag Tata Trusts to court, challenge its power to influence business decisions

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/576aaebf52bcd024008cae6b-1200/rory mcilroy.jpg" alt="Rory McIlroy" data-mce-source="John David Mercer/USA TODAY Sports" /><p class="source"><span>John David Mercer/USA TODAY Sports</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Rory McIlroy has announced that he will skip the upcoming Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro for fear of contracting Zika, <a href="http://www.bbc.com/sport/golf/36595631" target="_blank">via BBC Sport</a>.</p><p><span>"Even though the risk of infection from the Zika virus is considered low, it is a risk nonetheless and a risk I am unwilling to take," McIlroy said in a statement.</span></p><p>The announcement puts McIlroy's name on a growing list of sports figures who are skipping the games because they don't want to risk contracting this mystery disease. What this does to the popularity of the games remains to be seen, specifically here in the case of golf. Several other big names, such as Louis Oosthuizen, Vijay Singh, and Adam Scott, among others, have opted out as well.</p><p>Furthermore, this development yet again sparks the debate of whether going and competing in this year's games is really worth it. McIlroy justified not going by saying, "After speaking with those closest to me, I've come to realize that my health and my family's health comes before anything else."</p><p>This obviously is a huge topic of conversation and many who have already withdrawn from the games share the same argument. It's intriguing and it's definitely something to monitor with only about 6 weeks remaining until the games begin on August 5th.</p><p>What'll be even more interesting is how this all affects the level of competition at the games. With some of the best talent out, who will step up and put their names in the history books. Rory McIlroy is skipping the Rio Olympics because of the Zika virus

More impressive was the season put up by Tiger Woods in 2007 when he won seven tournaments and $10.87 million in earnings despite playing in just 16 events.</p><p>Thinks look a little different if we consider inflation as Singh's earnings translate to $13.8 million in today's dollars and Woods' inflation-adjusted earnings were $12.5 million and none of this includes the FedEx Cup bonuses at the end of the year which is $10 million for the winner. Jordan Spieth has made $10.4 million this year and is on pace to shatter the PGA Tour record

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/55200803.cms" /> Four months before <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword> was fired, the remuneration committee of the <keyword id="617644" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons-Board">Tata Sons board</keyword> lauded Cyrus Mistry’s performance and also recommended a salary hike.<br />
<br /> “The committee reviewed Mistry’s performance and recorded its recognition of his significant contribution across group companies. The company also appreciated Mistry’s multifaceted initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting cohesive functioning of the group in accordance with its distinctive values,” a source told ET, adding “the committee then agreed to recommend the board of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> an increase in Mistry’s basic salary and commission.”<br />

This comes as a surprise as the Tata Sons board has maintained it removed Mistry over his non-performance and deviation from Tatas ethos. The Tata Sons board members have also accused Mistry of taking wrong decisions in the past, which had put the group in a tight spot.<br />

Meanwhile, ET quoted sources as saying the group’s board was offering a bigger increment to Mistry but he insisted that his salary shouldn’t exceed the 6% offered to his top team, the Group Executive Team.<br />
<br /> The Tata Sons directors on the nomination panel are Ronen Sen, the chairman of the committee and independent director, Vijay Singh, the nominee director representing <keyword id="6383155" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Trusts">Tata Trusts</keyword>, and Farida Khambata, independent director.<br />

Sources told ET that during a meeting held on June 28, Sen said that Mistry, if judged on his past experience garned from site visit, he not only earned the respect of CEOs and senior management but also operational personnel.<br />
<br /> "The board in its collective wisdom decided that it may be appropriate to consider a change for the long term interests of Tata Sons and the <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>," group spokesperson <keyword id="269793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Debasis-Ray">Debasis Ray</keyword> told ET.<br />

"Although over a week has passed, the board of directors of Tata Sons is not forthcoming as to why Mr Mistry was unceremoniously treated this way without regard to any values. One lone trustee of Tata Trusts has suggested his removal was for non-performance. If at all this ostensible reason is to be believed, and then the directors who were part of the committee who voted in favour of his removal clearly failed to apply their mind independently and discharge their fiduciary duty," a person close to Mistry told ET.<br />

Here are the Masters first-round tee times for the golfers you should be keeping track of

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/55bf812f371d22dd2e8bb19d-1500-1005/tiger woods.jpg" alt="tiger woods" data-mce-source="Nick Wass/AP" /><p class="source"><span>Nick Wass/AP</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Tiger Woods had an unexpected second back surgery in September after learning that a slipped disk in his back had pinched a nerve, and <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/2015/10/20/woods-says-recovery-will-be-long-and-tedious/74297370/">on Tuesday he said </a>that he plans for the recovery to be "long and tedious."</p><p>From <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-woods-says-recovery-will-be-long-and-tedious-2015-10">the AP</a>:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>"Rehab will be soon, and it will be tedious and long," Woods said at the Bridgestone America's Golf Cup, an exhibition he was supposed to play with </span>Matt Kuchar<span> until the second surgery. "The last one, it took me awhile to get back. Some players on tour have done the same procedure and to be back pain-free it took them over a year."</span></p><p>This is Woods' second back surgery; his first came in 2014 and the recovery took only three months. Since returning to action, Woods has struggled mightily on the course. His best finish in nearly two years came this past August at the Wyndham Championship, where he finished tied for 10th. He hasn't won since 2013, and is currently ranked 339 in the world.</p><p>But the latest news of Woods' long and tedious recovery isn't all bad for the 14-time Major champion. Because unlike in the past, where surgeries have caused him to change his swing while also recovering physically, Woods' said that he doesn't plan on changing his swing because the recovery will have been more comprehensive.</p><p>"This year I tried to play after the back surgery and it wasn't fun because all of the pain. Also after my last surgery, I was changing my swing and to be able to do that successfully you have to practice a lot, and I could not practice because I was doing the rehab," Woods <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/2015/10/20/woods-says-recovery-will-be-long-and-tedious/74297370/">said.</a></p><p>"It was a very complicated situation because of that."</p><p>In July, Woods explained that simultaneously rehabbing his back while also changing his swing caused <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tiger-woods-new-swing-killed-his-game-2015-7">a "perfect storm" that derailed his game.</a></p><p><span><span>"Don't forget, I came off back surgery," Woods told the media before the Quicken Loans National in July. "I changed my golf swing and did a polar 180 and recovering from back surgery. You add those two together, it's the perfect storm and I have had to fight through both of those at the same time."</span> </span></p><p><span>Woods turns 40 in December, but says he doesn't feel that he's that far off his form from 2013 - a year in which he won five tournaments and earned PGA Tour Player of the Year laurels. He's also still got his eyes on Jack Nicklaus' mark of 18 majors. </span></p><p><span><span>"It's important for me to have more than 18 majors when all is said and done," Woods <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/2015/10/20/woods-says-recovery-will-be-long-and-tedious/74297370/">said.</a> "It took Jack his whole career to achieve it and mine is not done yet. I believe that I have a very good record for 20 years on the tour. The main thing is to get fit and to reach my 40s with good health to be as successful as Vijay [Singh], who won most of his tournaments at that age."</span></span></p><p><span><span>If Woods wants to have any shot at doing that, he'll have to get both his health and swing back on track. Most offices wear a deserted look with ministerial staff either looking at foreign postings or starting to scout for their next assignment within the country.<br />
<br /> The early birds have already taken up new assignments. For instance, Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, who was private secretary to PM Manmohan Singh, has moved to Washington as a senior advisor in the International Monetary Fund. Similarly, Anjali Prasad, who was the additional secretary responsible for <keyword id="44528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="FDI">FDI</keyword> policy, has joined as India’s ambassador to WTO in Geneva.<br />
<br /> There are several others who are in contention for foreign assignments, starting with the government’s chief spokesperson Neelam Kapoor, who is said to be headed for Nehru Centre in London. Also in the race for a job at the Indian high commission in London is commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma’s private secretary Ashish Kundra, while the minister’s <keyword id="46129" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="officer">officer</keyword> on special duty Ayush Mani Tiwari may move to the Indian mission in Brussels.<br />

Even finance minister P Chidambaram’s OSD, Vijay Singh Chauhan, is a candidate to be an advisor to India’s executive director to the World Bank in Washington.<br />
