Tamil drama "<keyword id="10477675" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="koozhangal" source="Orion">Koozhangal</keyword>" ("Pebbles"), directed by filmmaker Vinothraj PS, has been selected as <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s official entry for the 94th Academy Awards. The movie follows an alcoholic abusive husband who, after his long-suffering wife runs off, sets out with his young son to find her and bring her back. It stars newcomers --Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan -- and is produced by <keyword id="2571616" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vignesh-shivan" source="Orion">Vignesh Shivan</keyword> and Nayanthara. "India's official entry for Oscars this year is 'Koozhangal'. It was picked by a 15-member jury, headed by filmmaker Shaji N Karun, in a unanimous decision," Supran Sen, Secretary General, Film Federation of India, told PTI. A total of 14 films, including Malayalam feature --"Nayattu", Tamil film "Mandela", filmmaker Shoojit Sircar's "Sardar Udham", Vidya Balan-starrer "Sherni", Farhan Akhtar's "Toofan", Captain <keyword id="188665" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vikram-batra" source="Orion">Vikram Batra</keyword> biopic "Shershaah" and Marathi film "Godavari", were in the race. Shivan also took to Twitter and shared the news that the film will represent India at the Oscar's best international feature category. "There's a chance to hear this! And the Oscars goes to... Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives... #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Can't be prouder , happier &amp; content," he posted on the microblogging site. Vinothraj said he was grateful for all the love and support. "Could not be more happier to receive this news," he tweeted. "Koozhangal" had won the top honour, the Tiger Award for best film, at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), earlier this year. Following the announcement, filmmaker Hansal Mehta sent his best wishes to the team behind "Koozhangal". "All the best to this little gem! What is important is that this film's onward journey gets solid support both strategic and financial or else these selections only remain a local cause for celebration," he tweeted. Director Onir also congratulated the cast and crew and said he is looking forward to watch the film in theatre. "Congratulations@PsVinothraj@VigneshShivN@AmudhavanKar. The 94th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles. The nominations will be announced on February 8, 2022. No Indian film has ever won an Oscar. The last Indian film that made it to the final five in the best international feature category was Ashutosh Gowariker's Aamir Khan-starrer "Lagaan" in 2001. The other two Indian movies to have made it to the top five are "Mother India" (1958) and "<keyword id="488018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="salaam-bombay" source="Orion">Salaam Bombay</keyword>" (1989). Tamil drama 'Koozhangal' is India's official entry for Oscars 2022

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 8 (ANI): The craze for <keyword id="1671" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shah-rukh-khan" source="Orion">Shah Rukh Khan</keyword>'s action thriller film '<keyword id="6363925" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jawan" source="Orion">Jawan</keyword>' doesn't seem to end soon. After the releasae of the film, members of the film industry and fans flooded social media with their praises for SRK. Filmmaker Karan Johar on Thursday dropped a rugged still with intense expression of King Khan on his Instagram story and captioned it, "Emperor." Helmed by Atlee, the film stars <keyword id="4546" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shah-rukh" source="Orion">Shah Rukh</keyword> Khan, <keyword id="16829" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nayanthara" source="Orion">Nayanthara</keyword> and <keyword id="6354625" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vijay-sethupathi" source="Orion">Vijay Sethupathi</keyword> in the lead roles. On Thursday, Taran Adarsh shared that the film has already amassed an impressive Rs 51.17 crore in worldwide advance bookings, and it has managed to surpass the opening day record of 'Pathaan' in India. The film has been getting massive responses from all the fans as well as the critics. Fans celebrated the release like a festival with dhols, cake cutting, burning crackers and others. Delighted by the fans' response to 'Jawan', Shah Rukh Khan on Thursday took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and penned down a heartfelt note. "Wow have to take time out and thank each and every Fan Club and all of you who have gone so happily in the theatres and even outside. So overwhelmed will surely do the needful as soon as I get my breath back in a day or so. Uff!! Love u for loving #Jawan," Khan said. For 'Jawan' promotions, SRK travelled to several places. He attended a grand pre-release event in Chennai. He also visited Dubai, where 'Jawan' trailer was displayed at Burj Khalifa. He also offered prayers at the revered shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Jammu. Recently, he sought blessings at the Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Tirupati. He was accompanied by his daughter Suhana and his manager Pooja Dadlani. Both SRK and Suhana were dressed in white ethnic outfits. His Jawan co-star Nayanthara, along with her husband Vignesh Shivan was also clicked at the temple. The King Khan stayed awake all night to check his fans' reactions to the film. A fan page dedicated to SRK shared a video in which could be se seen chanting "India ki shaan Shah Rukh Khan" in unison. The caption on the post read, "Its 5:35AM in the morning and we have started celebration for our historic 6AM and its MASS HYSTERIA as welcome the KING to the big screen."
