<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="2390" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Las-Vegas">Las Vegas</keyword> Sands Corp is selling the Venetian Resort Las Vegas and the Sands Expo and Convention Center for $6.25 billion.</li><li>Funds managed by affiliates of <keyword id="154607" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Apollo-Global-Management">Apollo Global Management</keyword> are buying the operating firm of the Venetian for $2.25 billion.</li><li><keyword id="10863366" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="vici-properties">VICI Properties</keyword> will buy the Venetian's land and real estate assets for the remaining $4 billion.</li></ul>Las Vegas Sands Corp said on Wednesday it would sell its Las Vegas real estate property and operations for about $6.25 billion, as the casino operator focuses on Asia and growth opportunities in new markets.The deal comes as the gambling industry, largely dependent on travel and tourism, reels from the COVID-19 pandemic.The properties include the Venetian Resort Las Vegas and the Sands Expo and Convention Center.Funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management Inc will buy the operating company of the Venetian, for $2.25 billion, and VICI Properties will buy the land and real estate assets of the Venetian for $4 billion.Las Vegas Sands, the biggest operator of casinos by revenue on the Vegas Strip, said the deal underscores the company's strategy of reinvesting in its Asian operations, with a focus on Macao and Singapore.Shares of the company were up 3% in premarket trading.Las Vegas Sands' properties in Macau and Singapore accounted for 48% and 35% of total revenue in 2020, respectively, according to Refinitiv Eikon data."This investment also underscores our conviction in a strong recovery for Las Vegas as vaccines usher in a reopening of leisure and travel in the <keyword id="6356955" type="LOCATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="united-states">United States</keyword> and across the world," said Alex van Hoek, partner at Apollo Global Management.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Tech giants Alphabet and Meta were among the top-paying public companies in 2022.</li><li>They've laid off around 33,000 workers since 2022 — but offer some of the highest median salaries.</li></ul>Alphabet, the parent company of Google, and Meta were among the top-paying public companies in 2022, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/median-pay-salary-rankings-ba452511" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal</a>. The Journal analyzed data compiled by public-company analysts MyLogIQ about the median salaries at 278 companies in the S&amp;P 500.Meta placed second, offering employees a median salary of nearly $300,000, with Alphabet at number three with a median wage of $280,000.But Vici Properties, a real-estate-investment trust with just 22 employees, came top with a median salary of around $415,000. The company owns a host of casinos across the US, but it didn't include salary data for the hourly workers employed by its portfolio properties.In a year marred by tech layoffs and a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-perks-benefits-staff-workers-layoffs-cutting-back-employees-socials-2023-4">pullback on employee perks</a>, Alphabet and Meta have <a href="https://layoffs.fyi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut around 33,000 staffers since 2022.</a> Google's median pay package slipped from the top spot in 2021, according to the Journal's analysis.The Journal reported that, overall, median salary ranges in 2022 didn't fall "significantly" from 2021, when public companies <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/30/stock-market-futures-open-to-close-news.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">enjoyed large gains in the public markets</a>.The Journal calculated how much more CEOs earned than the company average by dividing the CEO's annual compensation, found in SEC filings, by the median pay.Among the S&amp;P 500 executives, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai took home the highest salary package of $226 million — 808 times more than the company's median pay. Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg took home $28 million in compensation, 91 times more than its median pay. Vici Properties' CEO Edward Pitoniak had a pay ratio of 28 — down from 273 in 2021. While the data analyzed compensation from median workers, the Journal noted that, while companies have to disclose the total compensation offered to median employees globally, "they have some latitude in how they identify their median worker."

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">AP Images</div></div></div><ul><li>Billionaire George Soros' firm made big bets on the music-streaming industry in the second quarter, according to regulatory filings.</li><li>Soros Investment Management took stakes now worth $178.7 in newly-public Spotify and Pandora, the documents showed. </li></ul>Billionaire investor <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/george-soros" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Soros</a> bet big on music-streaming platforms in the second quarter.His fund, Soros Fund Management, bought 728,700 shares of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/spot-stock" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spotify</a> currently valued at $122.6 million in the second quarter, according to <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1029160/000156761918001005/xslForm13F_X01/form13fInfoTable.xml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documents filed Tuesday</a>. It also loaded up on 7.12 million shares of Pandora stock currently valued at $56.1 million, the filing showed. That's a total of $178.7 million invested across the two services.Although it's not known when exactly Soros took these positions, Spotify spiked 27% in the period from its initial public offering at $132 per share through the end of June. It's since risen another 15%.
