IBM Research has already started training some of its AI models on EC2 servers using AWS's machine learning platform SageMaker, the document also explained.One person familiar with the document and the negotiations said the IBM deal is for AI training and the talks are ongoing. This person asked not to be identified discussing private matters. Further details could not be learned. As with any deal talks, such negotiations could end without a final agreement being signed. Spokespeople for AWS and IBM didn't respond to requests for comment.The potential deal could expand the partnership between AWS and IBM in the AI space. In May, IBM <a target="_blank" href="https://newsroom.ibm.com/2024-05-21-IBM-Expands-watsonx-Portfolio-on-AWS,-Adds-watsonx-governance-to-Help-Clients-Scale-Responsible-AI">announced</a> it was increasing its use of AWS across its Watson AI platform.The negotiations also highlight continued demand for Nvidia GPUs. AWS is negotiating a huge deal to supply IBM with Nvidia GPUs via the cloud

In a media statement, the department said that charter flights from key markets like Russian cities Moscow and Ekaterinburg, London, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, support international arrivals. A Polish charter flight is also set to arrive in the coastal state on November 8. The statement added that this international interest extends beyond Goa’s iconic beaches, with tourists increasingly exploring areas like Dudhsagar Falls and scenic hinterlands. To further boost connectivity, Goa is collaborating with airlines and seeking government support to improve flight routes, creating a more globally connected tourism landscape. "However, establishing robust direct international connectivity requires further support from the Government of India, which we are actively seeking to make Goa an even more attractive, accessible, and globally connected destination," a spokesperson said. He added that after pandemic disruptions, Goa’s international tourism is rebounding, with over 450,000 foreign arrivals recorded in 2023. Alongside domestic visitors, totaling over 8 million this year, the state’s tourism sector is also thriving. Addressing challenges like limited direct flights, Goa’s tourism officials are working to secure new airline agreements, ensuring an easier journey for international visitors. He also talked about the challenges that the tourism destination is facing, including limited connectivity by air. "Goa does face some challenges. For example, limited scheduled international air connectivity. The state government is working closely with the Centre to relook at point of call and additional seat entitlement for Goa, to establish more robust international connections," he said. A resolution through a postal ballot notice has been passed with requisite majority, the company said in a late night stock exchange filing on Wednesday. According to the postal ballot notice, the company will raise up to Rs 1,524.60 crore by preferential issue of up to 46.20 crore <keyword id="20035340" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-shares" source="keywords">equity shares</keyword> and/or warrants convertible into equivalent number of equity shares at a price of Rs 33 per apiece. On September 23, the board of Reliance Power Ltd had approved raising Rs 1,524.60 crore through issue of preferential shares, wherein promoters will infuse Rs 600 crore into the company to advance its business. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="79183505" title="Happy Dhanteras 2024 messages and wishes" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> Reliance Infrastructure, the promoter of the company, will enhance its equity stake by over Rs 600 crore. The other investors who will participate in the preferential issue include Authum Investment and Infrastructure Ltd and Sanatan Financial Advisory Services. The fresh fund would be utilised for expansion of business operations directly and/or through investment in subsidiaries and joint ventures, debt reduction and for general corporate purposes, the company said. The preferential issue will enhance the company's net worth from about Rs 11,155 crore to over Rs 12,680 crore, it said. Reliance Power gets shareholders' nod to raise ₹1,525 crore via preferential shares

Russia is still exporting its crude to Turkey, where refineries process the oil and later export crude products to the West, according to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://energyandcleanair.org/publication/sanctions-hypocrisy-g7-imports-eur-1-8-bn-of-turkish-oil-products-made-from-russian-crude/">a new analysis</a> from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.CREA data shows that Russia sold $1.3 billion worth of oil to three Turkish refineries in the first half of the year. G7+ nations, meanwhile, purchased around $2 billion of oil products of Russian origin from Turkish refiners, the think tank estimated.Western countries have ramped up their purchases from those three Turkish refineries since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, the researchers added. The US, for instance, increased imports from those refineries by 335% on a yearly basis in the first half of 2024."G7+ countries have displayed little desire or political will to address the refining loophole and stop it since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. While the loophole goes unchecked, G7+ countries have actually increased their imports from non-sanctioning countries, taking advantage of the situation by simply switching their supplier from Russia to third countries that are essentially functioning as Russian middlemen merchants," the researchers said. It's not the first time Russia used its trading partners to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/russia-oil-fuel-new-york-india-trade-western-sanctions-economy-2023-2">pass off energy products to the West</a>. Indian refiners, for instance, funneled around 89,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel a day to New York, a 2023 Kpler analysis found.Asian buyers of Russian oil, though, have pulled back in recent months, with Russia's crude shipments to the continent dropping around 10% since the spring, according to Argus Media data cited by <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/russia-economy-oil-war-revenue-crude-prices-opec-production-cut-2024-9">Bloomberg</a>. In its next meeting, slated for 9th September, the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Council may decide over imposing an 18% charge on <keyword id="20157806" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="payment-aggregators" source="keywords">payment aggregators</keyword> (PAs) like <keyword id="20290089" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Razorpay" source="keywords">RazorPay</keyword>, Stripe, PayU, Pine Labs, and more. Reportedly, these charges will be levied on small value transactions of up to Rs 2,000, which are made via <keyword id="22719132" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="debit-and-credit-cards" source="keywords">debit and credit cards</keyword>. Until now, all payment aggregators were exempt from GST on all transactions up to Rs 2,000. We decode what it means for you, and how it will impact your pockets. What's happening? The <keyword id="22666613" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fitment-committee" source="keywords">fitment committee</keyword>, which is made up of revenue officials from both center and states, is considering levying an 18% GST on payment aggregators. This is because officials feel that PAs are mere facilitators and intermediaries for card-based transactions, unlike banks, and thus, should be brought under GST purview. At present, they are exempt on paying GST on transaction of value less than Rs 2,000. But, if the proposal goes through in the 54th <keyword id="19994390" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST-Council" source="keywords">GST Council</keyword> meeting, every transaction you make through your credit or debit cards going ahead via such PAs will become costlier. Who are payment aggregators? PAs are essentially third-party service providers that let customers pay, and allow businesses to collect payments made via UPI, credit/debit cards or more. They are the interface between the customers and the merchants, allowing customers to opt for multiple, secure payment options, and also letting merchants manage and track fund collections and refunds. For their services, PAs levy a payment gateway fee, which ranges between 0.5% to 2% for each transaction. Post demonetisation in 2016, when currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 were discontinued with immediate effect, the government had waived off taxes on credit and debit card transactions of up to Rs 2,000, in order to boost digital payments. If GST is levied, PAs are likely to pass on this cost to merchants. Will UPI be affected? No. Currently, UPI does not currently have a MDR, or merchant discount rate. UPI will continue to remain a lucrative option for PAs and merchants, especially for transactions under Rs 2,000, since they will not attract GST. PAs charge MDR to businesses for processing credit and debit card transactions on their behalf. What will change? The move is likely to affect small businesses the most, who thrive on multiple, low value transactions. Think of this. Say you make a payment of Rs 1,500 via your credit card on Razorpay. If the PA sets its fee at 1% of each transaction, the business will have to pay Rs 15 to the PA. But now, with the potential additional 18% GST applicable, the business will have to pay Rs 2.7 more, or about Rs 17.7 to these PAs. This might not seem much at first, but compounded over multiple transactions, might snowball into a significant cost for small businesses.

The Philippines and Malaysia are both 12 hours ahead of New York, while Ghana is four hours ahead in summer, or five in winter.Zhang told BI that people in some Asian countries are "very used to" working the "'graveyard timezone,' so they are OK with that, and sometimes people like it."He added: "We always make sure we pay our employee enough to support their living and higher than the local wage."Each restaurant has one or two dedicated screens where workers from Happy Cashier are connected via video call. They take customers' orders, explain allergy information, and send the order to the restaurant's kitchen.Many of Happy Cashier's clients are based in the US, where it has an office in Manhattan. It's also trademarked in some major English-speaking countries, Zhang said. He said it works with restaurants "of many sizes," but that mainly <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fast-food-price-rises-tipping-point-value-deals-combos-mcdonalds-2024-8">fast-casual and fast-food restaurants</a> use its video cashier service. But ultimately, restaurants would need to think about whether using a service like this would make the experience better or faster for staff or customers, she said.Happy Cashier's workers also help with other tasks, Zhang said. He said that most restaurants "like to use our service for opening to the close because during those off-peak hours at restaurants, our cashiers do a lot of work at the back end" like posting on job sites, managing reviews, and working on SEO.

Simply believing strangers on the internet could mean huge losses at times and this is exactly what happened with a Noida-based woman who wanted to make some extra money by investing in the share market via an app. <h2>Woman loses over Rs 69 lakh in <keyword id="7292336" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock-market-scam" source="Orion">stock market scam</keyword></h2>According to a report in HT, a 32-year-old woman from <keyword id="20142852" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="greater-noida-west" source="keywords">Greater Noida West</keyword> was defrauded of more than Rs 69 lakh by scammers posing as stock market investment advisors. This incident, which unfolded over the course of several weeks, underscores the need for heightened vigilance and cybersecurity awareness in an increasingly interconnected society. Stuti, the victim, resides with her family in Amaatra Homes, Sector 10. Her ordeal began in June when she was added to an unknown WhatsApp group that offered training on earning profits in the stock market. The group, which appeared to be legitimate, provided her with initial training sessions that built trust and credibility. The scammers, masquerading as financial experts, promised Stuti a staggering 300 percent return on investments made through a specially designed mobile application. <h2>Scammers promised high returns</h2>Encouraged by the initial promise of high returns, Stuti downloaded the fraudulent application and made her first investment of Rs 1 lakh. To her astonishment, the app showed a profit of Rs 50,000 the very next day, further enticing her to invest more. The scammers then added her and her husband to another private WhatsApp group, where they were presented with a new profit plan requiring an investment of Rs 30 lakh. Trusting the system, they invested Rs 20 lakh. On July 16, the fraudsters introduced a new scheme involving an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and the allotment of one lakh shares. They asked the couple to invest an additional Rs 1.19 crore, promising a profit of Rs 50 lakh from their recent investments. The couple, now heavily invested both financially and emotionally, were then informed that they needed to pay an additional Rs 48 lakh to secure their profits. When Stuti and her husband expressed their inability to invest further and requested to withdraw their profits, the scammers cited convoluted terms and conditions to refuse their request. Desperate to recoup their investments, the couple broke their fixed deposits, liquidated mutual funds, and borrowed money from friends and family, eventually sending a total of Rs 69.53 lakh to the fraudsters through multiple transactions. It wasn't until the couple was asked to pay an additional Rs 21 lakh in taxes and other charges that they realised they had been duped.
