The overall net additions to the Indian telecom user base in June 2024 were 1.57 million, down from 2 million recorded in May 2024. This takes the total subscriber base from 1.169 billion in May 2024 to 1.171 billion in June 2024. With this, Jio's subscriber base has increased from 474.62 million in May 2024 to 476.53 million in June 2024. Out of the 476.53 million subscribers, the company’s <keyword id="22859675" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="active-subscriber-base" source="keywords">active subscriber base</keyword> stood at 440.94 million, which is 92.53%. <h2>Airtel adds 1.25 million subscribers</h2>Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel has once again added 1.25 million subscribers, just like May 2024. With this, the company's subscriber base has increased from 387.77 million in May 2024 to 389.02 million in June 2024. Airtel continues to enjoy a high active subscriber base. The company's active subscribers stand at 384.83 million users out of its 389.02 million users, which is 98.92% of its total user base. <h2>Vi continues to bleed subscribers</h2>Vi, which is yet to launch 5G services in the country has once again reported a decline in subscribers. The company lost nearly a million users in June 2024 with a decline of 860,889 users. The company’s subscriber base decreased from 218.16 million in May 2024 to 217.30 million users in June 2024. Out of the 217.30 million users, the company’s active user base stands at 188.26 million users, which is 86.64%. <h2>State-run BSNL loses subscribers</h2>State-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) reported a loss of 0.75 million subscribers in June 2024. With this, the telco's user base has decreased from 86.33 million in May 2024 to 85.58 million in June 2024. <h2><keyword id="22859674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MNP-requests" source="keywords">MNP requests</keyword> continue to grow</h2>Mobile number portability (MNP), which allows users to shift from one telecom operator to another, recorded 11.84 million requests during May 2024. Reliance Jio and Airtel gained over 3 million subscribers in June, Vi lost nearly a million

<ul><li>Vi is offering five recharge plans including a data add-on pack.</li><li>These plans offer a one year subscription of Disney+ Hotstar Mobile.</li><li>There are other benefits like unlimited calling and 100 SMS per day on these plans.</li></ul>Vi (Vodafone Idea) has launched new recharge plans with a one year subscription of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/reliance-jio-launched-new-prepaid-plans-with-free-disney-hotstar-mobile-subscription/articleshow/85824111.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Disney+ Hotstar Mobile</a> that is priced at ₹499 annually. There are five new plans in total starting at ₹501 and going up to ₹2,595. The new plans have been introduced to include the recently launched Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plan. Vi previously offered the Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription along with its recharge plans. In addition to a one year subscription of Disney+ Hotstar, these Vi prepaid plans also offer unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day and 3GB of data per day along with extra data up to 48GB. Customers also get access to Vi Movies and TV Classic service for movies, TV shows, live TV and news. There’s also a data add-on pack priced at ₹601 that offers 75GB of data and Disney+ Hotstar Mobile for one year. This booster pack can be used along with an existing recharge plan. These prepaid plans also come with Vi’s ‘Binge All Night’ and ‘Weekend Data Rollover” offers. Under the Binge All Night offer, Vi users can get unlimited data between 12 am and 6 am daily. Vi launches new prepaid recharge plans with Disney+ Hotstar Mobile subscription

Airtel has increased the price of this plan from ₹598 to ₹719. Jio and Vodafone offer the same plan for ₹555 and ₹599 respectively. This means that Airtel’s ₹719 plan is nearly 30% costlier than Jio’s ₹555 plan and over 20% costlier than Vodafone Idea’s ₹599 plan. Another plan that is popular among users is the 2GB data per day plan. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.45 and gained further to 83.44 against the greenback, registering a rise of 5 paise from its previous close. On Friday, the rupee settled at 83.49 against the US dollar. According to CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari the Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) seems determined to prevent the rupee from depreciating below 83.70. Even with pressure from oil companies due to elevated oil prices. "Overall, positive economic indicators such as a good growth rate, stable inflation, a reduced fiscal deficit, record-high RBI forex reserves, and a pipeline of inflows are all supportive factors that should ideally bolster the rupee," Pabari said, adding that given these factors, the rupee is expected to trade within a broad range of 83.20 to 83.70 levels. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 104.86, lower by 0.01 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.03 per cent to USD 86.51 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex fell 174.57 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 79,822.03 points. The broader NSE Nifty declined 13.05 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 24,310.80 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Friday, as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,241.33 crore, according to exchange data. On the domestic macroeconomic front, India's forex reserves dropped USD 1.713 billion to USD 651.997 billion for the week ended June 28, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the overall kitty had dropped USD 2.922 billion to USD 652.895 billion. The reserves had touched an all-time high of USD 655.817 billion on June 7 this year. <ul><li>The <keyword id="1600484" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Global-PC-shipments" source="Orion">global PC shipments</keyword> have reported growth for the second consecutive quarter.</li><li>The <keyword id="20148358" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PC-shipments" source="keywords">PC shipments</keyword> increased by 3% year-on-year in <keyword id="22245015" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Q2-2024" source="keywords">Q2 2024</keyword>, despite a slowdown in the Chinese market.</li><li>AI is expected to play a key role in PC shipments in 2024 and 2025.</li></ul> The global PC market continues to recover, recording the second consecutive quarter with growth after recording seven quarters of decline. Global personal computer or PC shipments have reported a year-on-year increase in Q2 2024. According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), 64.9 million PCs were shipped in Q2 2024, registering a 3% year-on-year growth. While the rest of the markets recovered, China continued to lag behind. If the Chinese market is excluded, the year-on-year growth increased to 5%. "Make no mistake, the PC market just like other technology markets faces challenges in the near term due to maturity and headwinds," said Ryan Reith, group vice president, IDC Worldwide Device Trackers. "However, two consecutive quarters of growth, combined with plenty of market hype around AI PCs and a less sexy but arguably more important commercial refresh cycle, seems to be what the PC market IDC Lenovo, which has been the market leader for a while now continues to lead the market, with 14.7 million devices shipped in Q2 2024, up from 14.2 million devices shipped in Q2 2023, registering a growth of 3.7%. Among the top five companies, Apple recorded the highest growth at 20.8%, shipping 5.7 million devices in Q2 2024, up from 4.7 million devices in Q2 2023.
