Let’s assume a Bangalorean started reading this article when he took a cab at Bengaluru’s Whitefield. There are 90% chances that by the time he finishes reading this article, sharing it with friends, commenting on the social media, eating his evening snack and swallowing all of that with a fizzy drink, the person would still be stuck in <keyword id="2998639" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Whitefield-traffic">Whitefield traffic</keyword>. 
 
This is not an odd day out and people of Bengaluru are bearing the brunt of the burgeoning traffic problem every minute. 
 
There are umpteen number of tweets, Facebook posts, threads on social media by people of Bengaluru who have missed their meetings, trains, flights, important function, cricket matches, etc because of the traffic. They say starting five minute early also makes no difference as they have to face chock-a-block traffic in any case. 
 
A glance at the stats will further reveal the grim situation. As per the data from Bengaluru’s RTO, the number of registered vehicles in the city went up from 55.59 lakh vehicles in 2015 to more than 60 lakh as of January 2016. 
 
This means, every month, 10% vehicles are getting added every day to the roads. Moreover, Bengaluru carries over 2.3 million riders daily and the average speeds is 18 kph, with which India’s Silicon Valley is counted among India’s slowest metros. 
 
The nerve wrecking situation is also because Bengaluru has a road density of 8.2 kilometre (km) per square km, the lowest among big Indian cities, and the scope of expansion is quite limited. In comparison, Delhi has a road density of 21.6 km per square km.

These tweets on Bengaluru’s traffic will crack you up and tell you how bad the situation really is

A three-day deadline has been has been set by the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Transport+Department&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Transport Department</a> for app-based cab aggregators to stop offering <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=carpool&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">carpool</a> or shared services to consumers as the services are in violation of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Motor+Vehicles+Act&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Motor Vehicles Act</a> and hence cannot be allowed. 
 
According to the Transport Commissioner MK Aiyappa after holding an hour-long meeting with the representatives of aggregators and sections of drivers, told the media that the cabs cannot pick up from and drop passengers at multiple locations before closing each trip. 
 
He also said that the aggregators have asked for three days to make changes in the software that powers the app t which the ministry has conceded the demand and said the transport officials will start booking the violators after the period. 
 The department's decision also follows strong protests from the city's transport utility <keyword id="6371543" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMTC">BMTC</keyword>. The letter from BMTC managing director Ekroop Caur says revenues have been hit because of carpool offered by aggregators as well as by other private operators. 
 
"They are also offering services with fixed schedules on specific routes - for example Hebbal to Marathahalli. That is not allowed at all," she told ET. 
 
The cab aggregators, operates under the contract carriage licence which doesn’t allow others to board the cab midway. The stage carriage permit, on the other hand, allows the vehicle (bus) to pick up and drop passengers along its scheduled route. 
 
So this means that BMTC has the exclusive right to pick up and drop a pool of commuters in the city and the permits are issued under the Motor Vehicles Act which is a Union Government legislation. 
 The aggregators also have plans to approach the Union Government to amend <keyword id="54414" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Motor-Vehicle-Act">Motor Vehicle Act</keyword>. 
 
At the meeting with the Transport Commissioner, drivers also requested the department's intervention with the aggregators on the minimum trips they are required to make and the drop in incentives.

With the expanded AI system, these numbers are expected to soar even higher. AI is playing a crucial role in optimising <keyword id="21296378" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="traffic-signals" source="keywords">traffic signals</keyword> to reduce congestion and manage traffic patterns. With its Automatic Traffic Counting and Classification (ATCC) feature, these <keyword id="21635811" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="AI-cameras" source="keywords">AI cameras</keyword> will help monitor the types of vehicles clogging up different junctions, offering better insights for road management. To that end, Bengaluru has also introduced AI-powered traffic signals, which automatically adjust the timing of traffic lights based on real-time traffic conditions. Elon Musk's Tesla setting up R&D centre in Bengaluru: CM

New Delhi, Jan 14 () US-based automotive software provider DealerSocket on Tuesday said it has set up a centre of excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru and plans to hire about 200 professionals for the unit by the end of the current year.
 The company, which has operations in the US, Canada and Australia, offers a suite of solutions to help dealers sell and service vehicles more profitably while improving their customers' experience.
 It works with about 8,000 dealers, offering them advanced customer relationship management (CRM), vehicle inventory management, analytics reporting and other solutions.
 "India has a large pool of talented and skilled workforce that can support our expansion. We have hired about 35 professionals and are looking to take this to 200 by the end of this year across all roles including data scientists and developers," DealerSocket President and CEO Sejal Chokshi Pietrzak told .
 She added that the Bengaluru team will work collaboratively with other teams to launch new capabilities, important enhancements, and valuable innovations for its customers.
 DealerSocket has named Tarun Jain as managing director who will be responsible for establishing and leading DealerSocket's CoE in Bengaluru. The company, however, is not looking at setting up sales operations in India yet. SR HRS

Tata Motors will supply, operate and maintain the 12-metre Tata Starbus for a period 12 years, as per the contract. Tata Starbus is an indigenously developed vehicle that is designed for sustainable and comfortable travel. G. Sathyavathi, Managing Director, BMTC, said, "This order is paramount for Bengaluru's growing need for clean and sustainable urban mass mobility. BMTC is happy to induct modern electric buses that will attract maximum ridership for eco-friendly public transportation." This is the third biggest order that Tata Motors has bagged from a state government in the last one month. Earlier, Tata Motors received orders for 1,500 electric buses from Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and 1,180 electric buses from West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC). Rohit Srivastava, Vice President (Product Line - Buses), Tata Motors, said, ‘We have been at the forefront of developing smart, modern and energy efficient commercial passenger vehicles, catering to the needs of future mobility.
