About one-third of the people in the world suffer from sleep disorders which are mainly caused by a sedentary lifestyle, medical experts said. Sleep reduction causes insulin resistance leading to obesity, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, cancers, cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorders and respiratory disorders. King George's Medical University (KGMU) Vice Chancellor <keyword id="7304685" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lt-gen-bipin-puri" source="Orion">Lt Gen Bipin Puri</keyword> said, "These can be prevented by a healthy diet, 15-20 minutes exercise, and leaving electronic gadgets two hours before going to sleep. Drugs are needed in extreme cases." He said, "If you are not able to sleep for at least five hours at a stretch in a day or have disrupted sleep patterns for more than three weeks, it could be insomnia or sleep apnea, which if ignored, could cause high blood pressure, fatigue, depression or anxiety and loss of concentration." He said that while an adult needs around 7 hours of sound sleep daily, a newborn must sleep for 18 hours and children up to 6 years for 12 hours. Prof <keyword id="6368646" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ved-prakash" source="Orion">Ved Prakash</keyword>, head of respiratory critical care medicine, KGMU, who is in charge of the comprehensive sleep centre, said, "Extended shifts, prolonged exposure to light, stress, anxiety, addiction to alcohol, caffeinated drinks and smoking, are the main reasons adversely affecting the body clock in adults." He said that the modern lifestyle does not give enough time to the body to relax and recharge itself, which leads to decreased secretion of neurotransmitters-serotonin and dopamine - which play a vital role in sleep quality. "Actually, the brain needs serotonin to make melatonin, a hormone that regulates your sleep-wake cycle while dopamine makes us happy. When both are secreted in reduced amount, they cause disruption in sleep and anxiety," he said. Faculty at the physiology department, KGMU, Prof <keyword id="185978" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="narsingh-verma" source="Orion">Narsingh Verma</keyword> said that light exposure also reduces the sleep of new-borns and children which adversely impacts the physical strength of children as the growth hormone secretes less. He said that a person facing sleep issues should take a balanced diet which is rich in green vegetables, fruits and sprouts as they have micronutrients and vitamins. While vitamin C is often associated with immunity, study after study has shown that vitamin C plays a powerful role in sleep quality. Financial markets regulator <keyword id="6355630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="securities-and-exchange-board-of-india" source="Orion">Securities and Exchange Board of India</keyword> (<keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi" source="Orion">SEBI</keyword>) has banned three individuals and two entities (in total five) from securities markets in a case of front-running trades in <keyword id="17271372" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="life-insurance-corporation-of-india-" source="Orion">Life Insurance Corporation of India.</keyword> The practice by dealers of dealing with advance information provided by their brokers and investment analysts, before their clients have been given the information is known as front running. Of the individuals was <keyword id="6367143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lic" source="Orion">LIC</keyword>'s employee Yogesh Garg since November 08, 2011. The rest are Sarita Garg, Kamlesh Agarwal, Ved Prakash HUF, and Sarita Garg HUF. Also, SEBI impounded Rs 2.44 crore in total from their accounts. SEBI's interim order on Thursday said the entities shall cease and desist from, directly or indirectly, engaging in any fraudulent, manipulative or unfair trade practice including front running thereby committing or causing a violation of any provisions under relevant laws. "...it is prima facie concluded that Noticees 1 to 5 (five entities) were involved in a scheme to front run the trades of the Big Client and therefore they are prima facie jointly and severally liable for the proceeds generated from the front running trades," the SEBI order read. It was prima facie observed that Yogesh Garg, being a dealer in LIC, was in possession of non-public information regarding impending orders of LIC and he acted as an information carrier. SEBI concluded that these five entities had a distinct role to play in the fraudulent scheme devised for front-running the orders of LIC. The entities are now directed to provide a full inventory of all assets held in their name, whether movable or immovable or any interest or investment or charge on any of such assets, including details of all bank accounts, <keyword id="104763" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="demat" source="Orion">Demat</keyword> accounts and mutual fund investments, immediately but not later than 15 days. SEBI bans five entities in LIC front running case, impounds ₹2.44 crore

Bhopal, May 6 () The Madhya Pradesh government hasdecided to screen the vulnerable section among the 1984 gastragedy survivors who showed primary symptoms so that they canbe isolated in view of the deaths of 17 people due to COVID-19in Bhopal so far, a senior official said on Wednesday.While an NGO has claimed that 15 of the 17 COVID-19deceased were the survivors of the gas tragedy, the governmentsaid it was not in a position to confirm this claim at thisstage."We have compiled the data of 15 out of the 17 deathsin the state capital due to COVID-19 and found that 15 were1984 gas tragedy victims as per their health records," BhopalGroup for Information and Action (BGIA) convener RachnaDhingra told .The BGIA, which works for rehabilitation of the gasvictims, has shared a list of the 15 deceased and the healthcomplications among them due to inhalation of toxic plumes ofMethyl Isocyanate that leaked from a plant on the interveningnight of December 2 and 3, 1984, killing thousands."As the gas victims are already affected, they aremore vulnerable to COVID-19 and hence needed extra care andattention which the authorities failed to gauge whileconverting the dedicated Bhopal Memorial Hospital and ResearchCentre (BMHRC) into a state-level COVID-19 facility, and laterreversed that status following the deaths of the gas affectedpersons," Dhingra claimed.Meanwhile, the state government has decided to screenthe vulnerable section among the survivors of the world'sworst industrial disaster so that they can be isolated at adedicated centre in the event of showing any primary symptomsof coronavirus infection."We cannot say at this stage that out of 17 how manywere gas tragedy victims, but we have decided to startscreening those persons who are more vulnerable and havedeveloped initial symptoms of COVID-19, so that they can beisolated and quarantined," newly-appointed Bhopal Gas Reliefdepartment's director Ved Prakash told .Once identified, they would be isolated at RasoolAhmed Pulmonary Medicine Centre, a facility of the Gas Reliefdepartment, he said."If they are found to be infected with coronavirus,they would be shifted to the dedicated COVID facility inBhopal," said Ved Prakash.Meanwhile, the BGIA claimed that of the 15 deaths dueto COVID-19, ten were over 60 years of age, three were around50 while the rest two were under 45 years of age.The youngest victim among them was a 39-year-old whohad history of hypertension and a 42-year-old cancer patient,it claimed.According to BGIA, all the 15 deceased had beenexposed to the toxic gas and lived within four-km radius ofthe now-defunct plant."Majority of the victims had comorbidities like COPD(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), diabetes, cancer, TBand hypertension etc, that made them more vulnerable toCOVID-19," Dhingra claimed. New Delhi, Jun 6 () The COVID-19 test report of a Delhi Police constable who died here three days ago has come positive, official said on Saturday. Constable Rahul, 30, had underlying health conditions and he breathed his last on Wednesday at Safdarjung Hospital, the police said. He was on a medical leave since November 2019 and was undergoing treatment for lung infection. "Almost 85 per cent of his lungs were not functioning," Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Ved Prakash Surya said. Earlier, three Delhi Police personnel died due to COVID-19. Rahul, a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was posted in northeast district and resided with his family in Mandoli area here. A senior police officer said the constable was being treated at a health facility in south Delhi and was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday after his condition deteriorated. Around 500 personnel of the force have been infected with the dreaded virus and 200 of them recovered, according to Delhi Police. A 31-year-old constable, Amit Kumar, posted at the Bharat Nagar police station had died on May 6, while two assistant sub inspectors succumbed to the disease last week. Assistant sub inspectors Shesh Mani Pandey, 54, and Vikram, 52, died while undergoing treatment for the disease at the Army Base Hospital here in the last week of May. Vikram was posted at the Sultanpuri police station of outer Delhi and was on highway patrol duty in the area since May 1. Pandey was ex-Army personnel and worked with the Finger Print Bureau (FPB) of the Crime Branch in Central Delhi's Kamla Market area. NIT DPB

According to an Indian Express report, on Saturday, a government panel comprising five members recommended yoga Guru Baba Ramdev to head the ‘Bharatiya Shiksha Board (BSB)’. Once implemented, the BSB is expected to benefit educational institutions run by Arya Samaj and gurukuls, which are not presently supported by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), according to the report. The move is reportedly an effort to ‘standardise Indian traditional knowledge’ including vedic education, Sanskrit and Yoga. The board will include a syllabus, exams and certificates to integrate ‘Ved Vidya’ with modern education. The governing panel’s vote will be evaluated by Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Vedavidya Pratishthan (MSRVP), a foundation headed and funded by Human Resource Minister Prakash Javadekar. Earlier this month, when the MSRVP <a href="https://thewire.in/education/baba-ramdevs-trust-among-applicants-to-establish-vedic-school-board">floated</a> an ‘expression of interest’ to establish the vedic board, Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust was among three applicants who submitted a bid. The other two contenders were Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, which runs the Amity Group of Institutions, and Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune. According to norms set out by the governing body, the sponsors of the board are required to have a minimum net worth of ₹3 billion and must be willing to contribute at least ₹500 million as corpus fund. Patanjali has reportedly committed at least <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/india/ramdev-may-head-first-vedic-education-board-after-govt-panel-picks-patanjali-2047289.html">₹210 million</a>. Most controversially, those who are dual citizens of Syria, Iraq, Iran, or Sudan are also forbidden from entering the country without documentation.This becomes especially tricky given the countries' views on what qualifies as a citizen. Iran, for example, <a href="http://www.unicef.org/iran/IRN_resources_BR_eng-word.pdf">counts children of male Iranian nationals</a>, regardless of their place of birth, and their spouses as citizens of the country, according to a UNICEF report. British citizens of Iranian heritage who have never set foot in the country would have to apply for a visa just because of their birth parents, Partovi explained."Discriminating based on national heritage is inconsistent with American values. In effect, certain provisions of the new law require visas for Europeans and other citizens with Iranian, Sudanese, Syrian, or Iraqi heritage," the group wrote. "We protest this just as vigorously as if Congress had mandated special travel papers for citizens based on their faith or the color of their skin."Business leaders are also concerned about the economic impact.Some tech employees and customers have already been blocked from entering the country because they didn't realize their parents' nationality played a role in their travel plans, Partovi told Business Insider."Restricting travel handicaps American companies from being as competitive they want to be in the international marketplace," Partovi said.Beyond just voicing concerns, the Silicon Valley heavyweights are also throwing their power (and in some cases, likely money and influence) behind the Equal Protection in Travel Act (H.R.4380/S.2499) that would remove the restrictive dual nationality clause. The group released its letter <a href="https://www.change.org/equaltravel">Tuesday on a Change.Org</a> to gain signatures for a petition as a show of support. A new bipartisan bill <a href="http://www.politico.com/story/2016/01/congress-visa-waiver-iran-iraq-syria-sudan-217714">introduced in January</a> would eliminate the dual nationality clause, but would not lift the restrictions on those who traveled to other countries. This reduces the agility and liberty of U.S. firms, makes us less competitive in the global economy, and will ultimately cost jobs.We support the bipartisan Equal Protection in Travel Act (H.R.4380/S.2499), which mitigates these problems.
