<ul class="summary-list"><li>Nvidia briefly surpassed Apple as the world's most valuable company on Friday with a $3.53 trillion valuation.</li><li>Nvidia's rise has been fueled by its AI-enabling GPUs, boosting its market value by $3.1 trillion since the release of ChatGPT.</li></ul><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/nvda-stock">Nvidia</a> briefly eclipsed <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/AAPL-stock">Apple</a> to become the world's most valuable company on Friday.</p><p>It's the first time Nvidia has been <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nvidia-stock-price-market-cap-microsoft-most-valuable-company-ai-2024-6">the world's largest company since mid-June.</a></p><p>Nvidia stock jumped as much as 3% on Friday to an intra-day high of $144.13, catapulting its market valuation to $3.53 trillion. In contrast, Apple traded up less than 1%, giving it a market valuation of $3.52 trillion.</p><p>Nvidia stock has since pared its gains to about 1% and is trading neck-and-neck with Apple's valuation, at $3.52 trillion compared to Apple's $3.53 trillion at 1:24 p.m., according to data from YCharts.</p><p>The massive size of Nvidia is a testament to its quick ascent since OpenAI released its first version of ChatGPT in November 2022.</p><p>Since then, shares of Nvidia, which supplies the technology world with AI-enabling GPU chips, have added $3.1 trillion to their market valuation, with their stock price soaring more than 740%.</p><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nvidia-stock-price-prediction-nvda-blackwell-demand-outlook-chips-ai-2024-10">Wall Street believes the gains can continue,</a> with some analysts expecting the stock to eclipse a $4 trillion valuation soon.</p><p>Bank of America analysts raised their Nvidia price target to $190 last week, citing strong upside and a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nvidia-stock-upside-growth-ai-chips-demand-bofa-2024-10">"generational opportunity" </a>as it grows its lead in the AI space. </p><p>Meanwhile, CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino bumped his price target to $160 as an "AI war" takes place among the major cloud companies.</p><p>"The higher multiple and target reflect our higher conviction that NVDA will post results that exceed our/consensus views in CY 25, as Blackwell ramps. As we previously cited, Blackwell will take greater wallet share from hyperscalers (e.g., greater GPU, CPU, networking, and software revenue) amid an AI war in the cloud," Zino wrote.</p><p>All eyes will be on Nvidia when they report their third-quarter earnings results next month.</p>

Many firms anticipated consumers would skip out on Apple's latest phone lineup to wait for rumored 5G iPhones to release in 2020.</p><p>Further, Microsoft was caught in broad stock sell-off, falling as much as 2.2% on Friday. Apple surpasses Microsoft as the world's most valuable company

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Getty</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Apple surpassed Microsoft in market value at the close of trading Wednesday.</li><li>It means that Apple is currently the most valuable publicly traded company. </li><li>Watch Apple trade in real-time <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/aapl-stock">here</a>.</li></ul><p>Apple has retaken the crown.</p><p>Apple surpassed Microsoft as the world's most valuable publicly traded company at the close of trading on Wednesday after a hot streak stemming from better-than-expected earnings last week. </p><p>Apple was flat on Wednesday, giving it a market capitalization of $821 billion, ahead of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/microsoft-dethrones-apple-as-the-most-valuable-us-company-2018-11-1027756092">Microsoft's market value</a> of $813 billion after a 1.1% slide. Both were ahead of Amazon, which had a market value of $805 billion at the close of the markets on Wednesday. </p><p>It's the first time Apple has closed as the most valuable company since December 3, according to Bloomberg data. Apple surpasses Saudi Aramco as world's most valuable company

<p><keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> lost its spot as the world's most valuable company today to <keyword id="6383208" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Exxon">Exxon</keyword>.</p>
<p>Apple's market cap is <span id="yfs_j10_xom">$</span>413.06<span id="yfs_j10_aapl"> billion versus </span><span id="yfs_j10_xom">$</span>418.23 billion <span id="yfs_j10_xom"><span id="yfs_j10_aapl"></span> for Exxon. </span></p>
<p><span></span>Apple has been the world's most valuable company since August of 2011.</p>
<p>It comfortably held that position for over a year. But, as the world came to the realization that Apple wasn't going to forever grow its profits at an insane rate forever, the stock started to tank.</p>
<p>It's now more than 30% off its peak, giving Exxon its chance to regain the title as the most valuable company in the world.</p>

APPLE LOSES ITS SPOT AS WORLD'S MOST VALUABLE COMPANY

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Nvidia is now the second-most-valuable company in the world.</li><li>The ongoing AI boom has helped catapult Nvidia's market valuation to $3.014 trillion.</li></ul><p><a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/nvda-stock?miRedirects=1">Nvidia</a> surged 5% on Wednesday to become the second-most-valuable company in the world, surpassing <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/aapl-stock?miRedirects=1">Apple</a>.</p><p>The stock closed at $1,224.40 per share, giving it a market valuation of $3.014 trillion.</p><p>The ongoing artificial-intelligence boom has <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nvidia-stock-ai-race-artificial-intelligence-wall-street-gpu-huang-2023-5">catapulted Nvidia's market valuation</a> to the $3 trillion club as mega-cap tech companies such as Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft rush to buy the company's supply-constrained <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-impact-q1-earnings-season-ai-nvda-stock-price-capex-2024-5">AI-enabling GPU chips.</a></p><p>Nvidia's valuation was just above $950 billion a year ago and was about $400 billion in November 2022 when OpenAI first released ChatGPT to the public.</p><p>Apple stock, while trading near record highs, has stagnated over the past year as investors wait to see what the <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/apple-stock-price-prediction-value-wwdc-ai-iphone-16-cycle-2024-5">iPhone maker's AI strategy</a> is.</p><p>Apple stock is up 2% year to date, compared with Nvidia's year-to-date gain of 146%.</p><p>Apple held a market valuation of $3.00 trillion Wednesday afternoon, or about $15 billion below Nvidia's current valuation.</p><p>With Apple surpassed, Nvidia is behind only <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/msft-stock">Microsoft</a>, which is the world's most valuable company with a market capitalization of $3.15 trillion.</p><p>With the <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/ai-stocks-stock-market-outlook-artificial-intelligence-economy-worker-shortage-2024-2">AI boom powering much of the stock market higher</a>, it's no surprise that the company most responsible for powering the boom has turned into one of the world's most valuable companies.</p><p>And Beth Kindig, an I/O Fund tech analyst, said she believed the gains could continue for Nvidia, arguing in an interview with CNBC last month that the company could be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/post/preview?post_id=6655e9554a7647d33b093842&amp;snapshot_id=6655f7e84d89916b4e4036d5&amp;mode=desktop&amp;svapi">worth $10 trillion by 2030</a>.</p><p>Kindig compared Nvidia's CUDA platform to Apple's iOS, saying: "Similar to iOS is really what locked people into the iPhone because developers were developing applications for the iPhone. The same thing is happening with Nvidia, which is that the CUDA platform is what software engineers, AI engineers are learning in order to program GPUs, so that helps lock them in, and that combination, right now, I'm calling it an impenetrable moat."</p>

Nvidia surpasses Apple to become the 2nd-most-valuable company in the world

The 4 most valuable public companies are all tech companies

Apple's market cap was slightly less. </p><p>It's a surprising turn of events as less than two months ago Microsoft's topped out at $887 billion while Apple's reached a peak above $1.12 trillion just one month after becoming the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/apple-stock-price-trillion-dollar-market-cap-us-company-2018-8-1027427055">first US company with a $1 trillion valuation</a>.</p><p>But a lot has happened since then as the stock market suffered through <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stock-market-news-sp-500-worst-month-since-financial-crisis-2018-10">Red October</a>, one of its worst months since the financial crisis, with the Nasdaq Composite shedding more than 12%.</p><p>Microsoft has managed to hold up better than other high-flying tech names after its first-quarter results showed that it continues to follow through on the vision of CEO Satya Nadella, who when he took over in 2014 said he wanted to focus on its subscription-based businesses and the cloud. And while the sales growth of its cloud-computing unit, Azure, grew at its slowest pace in at least two years, it was still up 76% annually, remaining the strongest rival to the dominant Amazon Web Services. Microsoft shares are down 8% from their September close.</p><p>But Apple has gotten mauled amid fears of slowing demand for its iPhones. Microsoft dethrones Apple as the most valuable US company

At that point, Apple's market capitalization stood at $534 billion.</p><p>As a whole, Alphabet posted total revenue of $21.32 billion in the fourth quarter.</p><p>Alphabet beat on both the top and the bottom line, posting earnings per share of $8.67, which beat analyst expectations of $8.09. </p><p>Alphabet's primary revenue-generating engine is Google, of course. During Monday's earnings call, Google CEO Sundar Pichai noted that seven Google consumer products have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/gmail-has-1-billion-monthly-active-users-2016-2">more than 1 billion monthly active users</a>, including Gmail, Search, Android, Maps, Chrome, Youtube, and Google Play.</p><p>But as quickly as Google can make money, parent company Alphabet can spend it. Google just passed Apple to become the most valuable company in the world

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Nvidia on Tuesday claimed the spot of the world's most valuable company.</li><li>Shares of the chipmaker rose 4%, helping it edge past Microsoft's market cap.</li></ul><p>Nvidia stock rose 4% on Tuesday, helping push its market capitalization past that of Microsoft to claim the title of the world's most valuable company.</p><p>The chipmaker on Tuesday boasted a market value of $3.338 trillion, edging out Microsoft's $3.326 trillion market cap by just $12 billion.</p><p>Nvidia stock hit an intraday high of $136.25 Tuesday afternoon.</p><p>That equates to a split-adjusted price of $1,362.50. Nvidia <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nvidia-stock-price-q1-earnings-10-for-1-stock-split-2024-5">underwent a 10-for-one stock split earlier this month</a>.</p><p>It's already been a wild ride for the chipmaker in 2024, with the stock soaring 173%. That's after the stock rallied more than 200% in 2023.</p><p>Still, Wall Street remains bullish and is eyeing even more gains, with <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nvidia-stock-price-prediction-10-trillion-valuation-cuda-competitive-moat-2024-5">one analyst expecting a $10 trillion valuation for the company by the end of 2030</a>.</p><p>The company, whose chips have been powering the artificial-intelligence boom since ChatGPT was unveiled in 2022, beat out Apple as the second-biggest company less than a month ago.</p><p>A lot has been going right for Nvidia recently.</p><p>The stock's meteoric rise is set to spark <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/xlk-etf-shakeup-nvidia-stock-overtakes-apple-ai-nvda-aapl-2024-6#:~:text=Nvidia%20is%20set%20to%20surpass,ongoing%20AI%2Dfueled%20tech%20boom.">a massive reshuffle of a $72 billion tech exchange-traded fund later this month</a>, which should result in buying pressure of about $11 billion for Nvidia stock.</p><p>But more importantly, Nvidia's earnings have been booming.</p><p>While the stock has soared just over 700% since ChatGPT was released on November 30, 2022, the company's underlying valuation multiple has declined, signaling that its earnings are growing faster than its stock price.</p><p>Nvidia had a forward price-to-earnings multiple of about 50 times in November 2022, compared with about 40 times today.</p><p>One concern for Nvidia investors has been <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-defends-dominance-competition-increases-2024-6">the potential for competition to eat away at Nvidia's recent gains</a>, but that has yet to materialize.</p><p>Nvidia's closest competitor, AMD, expects to generate about $4 billion in revenue from its AI graphics processing unit this year. The social media platform lost about one million users from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2021.</p><p>The announcement sent Meta shares plunging 26.4% in just one day on February 3, wiping out $240 billion in market capitalization. It was the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-q4-earnings-largest-ever-one-day-wipeout-190-billion-2022-2">largest one-day loss</a> in US corporate history. Meta CEO <keyword id="11896062" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="mark-zuckerberg" source="Orion">Mark Zuckerberg</keyword>'s personal net worth has also <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/billionaires/">taken a hit</a>: He's currently worth $78.8 billion, down more than $46 billion from the beginning of the year.</p><p>Since then, Meta's share price has extended losses, losing another 13% to date. This has sent the company tumbling down the list of the world's most valuable companies by market cap.</p><p>Today, Meta is the 11th most valuable company in the world with a market cap of $565.4 billion, a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-17/meta-platforms-falls-from-ranks-of-10-most-valuable-companies?cmpid=BBD021722_MKT&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_term=220217&amp;utm_campaign=marketsasia">Bloomberg</a> ranking shows. It was previously in sixth place, based on Meta's record-high share price on September 7, 2021, per Bloomberg.</p><p>Taking the top spot on list is Apple, with a market cap of $2.8 trillion, and Microsoft in second place, with a valuation of $2.2 trillion, the ranking shows.
