"Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to extend the validity of Fitness, Permits, Licenses, Registration or other documents under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 till the 30th of December 2020," said the statement. It has further advised that all concerned documents whose extension of validity could not or not likely be granted due to the lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2020 or would expire by December 31, 2020, may be treated to be valid till December 31, 2020.  “All new <keyword id="1953691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Card-present-infrastructure">card present infrastructure</keyword> has to be enabled for both <keyword id="1953693" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="EMV-chip-and-PIN">EMV chip and PIN</keyword> and Aadhaar (<keyword id="1953679" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Biometric-validation">biometric validation</keyword>) acceptance,” the <keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword> stated in a notification on November 26. It also directed banks to issue chip-based cards by November 30 to tackle rising cases of <keyword id="38935" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Fraud">fraud</keyword>.  A rise in fraud cases due to <keyword id="1953714" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Stolen-card-data">stolen card data</keyword> had prompted the RBI to set up a panel in March 2011, which looked into securing card-based transactions through additional layers of authentification such as PINs and <keyword id="102890" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="biometrics">biometrics</keyword>. According to the RBI, the recommendations of the Working Group have been examined and the measures have been advised after taking into consideration the developments that took place in the card payment ecosystem as well as in the scalability and effectiveness of Aadhaar over a period of time. 
 <keyword id="1953695" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Euro-pay-MasterCard-Visa">Euro pay MasterCard Visa</keyword> or EMV <keyword id="6428865" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="chip">chip</keyword> and <keyword id="6376717" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="PIN">PIN</keyword> authentication involves card information being stored in a chip that is accessible through a PIN or <keyword id="1636984" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Personal-identification-number">personal identification number</keyword>, which replaces a cardholder’s signature. This is in line with global best practices and is currently getting implemented. So is it really essential to come up with an additional security layer by linking the entire process with Aadhaar and its biometric validations? 
 Not for all cards, it seems. “In respect of cards, not specifically mandated by the RBI to adopt <keyword id="1953703" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="EMV-norms">EMV norms</keyword>, banks may take a decision whether they should adopt Aadhaar as additional factor of authentication or move to EMV chip and Pin technology for securing the <keyword id="1953704" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Card-present-payment-infrastructure">card present payment infrastructure</keyword>,” said RBI. 
 
Even then, the biometric validation will be mandatory for all new machines/replacements and that means getting infrastructure-ready where no such infrastructure exists. 
 Before we get into more details, let us have a look at Aadhaar’s current functionality and future scope. Launched by the <keyword id="86474" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Unique-Identification-Authority-of-India">Unique Identification Authority of India</keyword> (<keyword id="6355252" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UIDAI">UIDAI</keyword>), Aadhaar cards are essentially identity proofs based on <keyword id="441301" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="biometric-data">biometric data</keyword>. These are currently used for opening bank accounts and further ensure that <keyword id="44734" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Government">Indian government</keyword>’s welfare payments are routed directly to beneficiaries. 
 But Aadhaar is bound to play a more crucial role and gain a nation-wide runway when the latest RBI directive comes into force. Since both provisions are made mandatory by the RBI, <keyword id="1953676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aadhaar-validation">Aadhaar validation</keyword> will have to be facilitated at all new <keyword id="443296" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Point-of-Sale">point of sale</keyword> (<keyword id="88570" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="POS">PoS</keyword>) terminals/ATMs. 
 Although most banks have started rolling out the EMV chip and PIN systems and are deploying new cards to customers, implementing Aadhaar validation will require more time and additional costs. That’s because banks will have to put in place the mechanism for <keyword id="1953708" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Biometric-checks">biometric checks</keyword>, in tune with the system established by the UIDAI. 
 
“This new requirement is a challenge as we have very basic thumb print and reading devices. There is no service provider that manufactures such machines in bulk,” the payments head of a leading private sector bank told Economic Times. As a result, most <keyword id="61519" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Private-banks">private banks</keyword> may stop installing <keyword id="459467" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="POS-terminals">PoS terminals</keyword> at merchant outlets, he said. 
 But the worst hit could be the <keyword id="6355548" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Public-Sector-Banks">public sector banks</keyword> such as the <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> and <keyword id="6358007" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bank-of-Baroda">Bank of Baroda</keyword> who are planning to roll out a large number of PoS machines. They will have to start from scratch to enable biometric facilities. 
 In spite of the current <keyword id="1953709" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gap-in-infrastructure">gap in infrastructure</keyword>, no one can deny the benefits of including biometric data (finger print/retina scan) captured by the UIDAI. This can be effectively used for authentication to protect against both <keyword id="1953712" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-counterfeit">domestic counterfeit</keyword> and lost &amp; stolen card fraud as the cardholder has to be physically present at the PoS terminal/ATM to authenticate the transaction. Even if the card is counterfeited, the fraudster will not be able to use the card as the biometric data of the customer will be required. 
 Currently, transactions using cards at PoS do not require additional authentication in majority of the cards. However, data stored in <keyword id="1953711" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Magnetic-stripe">magnetic stripe</keyword> is vulnerable to <keyword id="6419130" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="skimming">skimming</keyword>. If more and more customers are to be encouraged to use PoS channels, it will surely require securing these transactions through biometric authentication and prevention of <keyword id="6722989" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="counterfeiting">counterfeiting</keyword> (skimming) by migrating to chip and PIN. That’s exactly what the RBI is doing although it may take some time to get into action.

<ul><li>India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the use of Aadhaar — the 12-digit unique identification number — as an identity proof for Indian citizens under 15 and above the age of 65 while travelling to Nepal and Bhutan </li><li>Indian travellers will not be required to have a visa if they have a passport and valid photo identity proof — including Aadhaar. </li><li>For families visiting the two countries, only one adult member needs to carry the relevant travel documents, but, are required to have identity proofs.</li></ul>India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/home-ministry-tweaks-travel-norms-for-travel-to-nepal-bhutan-1980403">reportedly approved</a> Aadhaar — the 12-digit unique identification number — as a valid ID proof for Indian citizens below the age of 15, and senior citizens above 65. Earlier in 2017, the union ministry had<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/aadhaar-not-valid-for-travel-to-nepal-bhutan-says-home-ministry/story-r56Fe31HVCGTCIyTlZr9CP.html"> reportedly</a> said that Aadhaar card is not an acceptable travel document to visit Nepal or Bhutan. The valid travel documents have included PAN cards, ration cards, driving license or a Central Government Health Service (CGHS) card. According to the current norms, Indian travellers are not required to have a visa if they have a passport and a valid photo identity proof — issued by the government of India. If not, voter identity card issued by Election Commission of India also works. And for families visiting the two countries, only one adult member needs to carry the relevant travel documents. But, all the members are required to have identity proofs. Travelling to Bhutan, Indian nationals need to have either of the two — Indian passport that is valid for at least six months or voter identity card. According to <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/mha-tweaks-travel-norms-indians-over-65-under-15-can-use-aadhaar-to-visit-nepal-bhutan/articleshow/67609882.cms">media reports</a>, nearly 8,000 to 10,000 people travel to Bhutan on a daily basis. In fact, Bhutan shares borders with Indian states of Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal, and is home to about 60,000 Indian nationals employed in various industries, including construction and hydroelectric power industry. While Nepal has been home to over 600,000 Indians so far — including labourers, doctors and IT professionals — records the Ministry of External Affairs. However, the ministry official noted that the certificate of registration, issued to the Indians by the Embassy of India will not be valid for travel to Nepal. India okays Aadhaar as a valid travel document for Nepal and Bhutan — but only for certain age groups

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Proof of Stake (PoS) is a consensus protocol - or a set of rules or system of agreement - that's used to validate cryptocurrency transactions.</li><li>PoS redefines how blockchain nodes agree on which record of crypto transactions is accurate and improves upon the Proof of Work (PoW) system.</li><li>PoS requires validators to stake tokens to validate transactions, while PoW requires miners to solve a cryptographic puzzle.</li></ul>Proof-of-stake (PoS) is a consensus mechanism for blockchain networks. In PoS, the nodes of the network commit "stakes" of tokens for a set period of time in exchange for a chance at being selected to produce the next block of transactions. The node that's chosen - referred to as the "validator" - will receive the block rewards in the form of the native token of the network.Note: A consensus mechanism is a set of rules or agreement for all of the nodes in a blockchain network to agree on which transactions are valid and which ones are not.<h2>How does proof of stake work? </h2>To answer the question "what is proof of stake," we must first define what it means for blockchains to achieve consensus. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-blockchain" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Blockchain</a> is a decentralized distributed ledger of transactions. Because there's no single server controlling the network, there has to be some way for everyone to agree on which transactions are valid. Otherwise, it would be possible for people to create fake transactions.The servers in a blockchain are called "nodes." Nodes process transactions. Some nodes have the ability to add blocks of transactions to the chain, maintaining and growing the ledger. In Proof of Work (PoW) networks (which we'll cover later) like Bitcoin, these nodes are referred to as "miners."For PoS, nodes commit funds to the network - a process known as "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/staking-crypto" target="_blank" rel="noopener">staking</a>" - for a chance to be chosen as the next block writer instead of nodes competing with each other to be rewarded for solving cryptographic puzzles, as is the case with PoW. In PoS networks, nodes that can add blocks are called "validators," which are individuals who are responsible for verifying transactions on a blockchain. Each validator has a chance at being selected to write the next block and receive its rewards. It's kind of like a lottery - the larger the stake of tokens committed, the higher odds that node has of being chosen. Here's a partial list:<ul><li>Cosmos (ATOM)</li><li>Cardano (ADA)</li><li>Polkadot (DOT)</li><li>Solana (SOL)</li><li>VeChain (VET)</li><li>Tezos (XTZ)</li></ul>These networks aim to accomplish a variety of different tasks. <ul><li>Cardano and Solana are focused on providing smart contract functionality, much like <keyword id="11892696" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ethereum" source="Orion">Ethereum</keyword>. </li><li>Cosmos helps different blockchain communicate with each other. </li><li>Tezos is designed to allow for the creation and trading of security tokens. </li></ul>Because there is no "mining" involved in PoS, PoS networks often start with a "pre-mine," where the entire supply of tokens is brought into existence at once.<h2>Can you make money with proof of stake? </h2>The short answer is yes. Those who become validators have the opportunity to win the next block reward of new tokens for their network of choice. But not just anyone can become a validator."You have to have a certain [number] of coins to become a validator that actually moves the chain forward," says Drew Beaudry, who works in Strategic Partnerships at <a href="https://tendermint.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tendermint</a>. "Most people can become a validator node if they want, but they won't actually have votes on moving the chain forward, and they won't be rewarded for participating."The number of tokens needed to become a validator varies according to the network. For some networks, the price could be small, while others could require quite a large sum. Ethereum (ETH), for example, plans to require a stake of 32 ETH for people to become validators once the network transitions from PoW to PoS.Thankfully, some crypto exchanges have made things easier for retail investors looking to stake their PoS coins. Rather than having to set up your own validator node, some exchanges have become validators themselves. They then offer to stake tokens on behalf of users who hold PoS tokens in their exchange wallets (in exchange for a hefty fee of the profits). There's usually no minimum amount required.Some of the largest exchanges, like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/binanceus-investing-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Binance</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/coinbase-investing-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Coinbase</a>, offer staking for various tokens like Cosmos (ATOM), Tezos (XTZ), VeChain (VET), and others. To participate, users simply buy or deposit coins and hold them in their exchange wallet. Staking rewards will then be paid out to that wallet on a regular basis. However, some have criticized this approach as being too centralized. If big exchanges become the majority of validator nodes for any given proof-of-stake token, then most of the network will be concentrated into the hands of a small oligarchy. Gould acknowledged this in saying that Nodamatics is "actually doing research on this issue at the moment," with regard to the geographic and technical diversification of the infrastructure that runs proof-of-stake networks. Beaudry also noted that the security of a PoS network is primarily tied to two things:<ul><li>The value of its token</li><li>The extent to which the token's supply is decentralized</li></ul>While PoS coins with market caps in the billions of dollars might not have to worry about the first issue, the second one could become problematic if exchanges wind up hosting too many validator nodes. <h2>Proof of stake vs. proof of work </h2>Both PoS and PoW mechanisms achieve the same end goal, but by different means. The main difference between networks that use PoS and those that use PoW is how the network achieves consensus for its blockchain.Gould notes that PoS is easiest to understand "if it's contrasted to proof-of-work." He goes on to explain that "in proof-of-work, the consensus is achieved by allowing a single participant to write the next block in the blockchain and be rewarded in the native cryptocurrency of that blockchain for their efforts."Miners are effectively spending large amounts of computing power and electricity as they work on "solving a very hard cryptographic puzzle." Till now, the validity of Commercial Pilot License (CPL) was for five years and after completion of that period, it had to be renewed. The civil aviation ministry amended the Aircraft Rules, 1937. Among various changes made, the validity of licenses in relation to Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) and CPL holders has been increased from five years to ten years. "This change is expected to reduce administrative burden on pilots and aviation authorities like DGCA, promoting a more streamlined and efficient licensing process," the ministry said in a statement on Monday. Besides, rules have been amended to address concerns related to the display of lights in the vicinity of an aerodrome. It has also been clarified that the term 'light' encompasses lantern lights, wish kites, and laser lights. Also, the government's jurisdiction over those exhibiting such lights has been extended from 5 kilometres to 5 nautical miles around an aerodrome. "It is made explicit that the government possesses the authority to take action against individuals displaying lights that disrupt the safe operation of aircraft or pose hazards to the operating crew. "Should such lights remain unattended for 24 hours, the government is empowered to enter the location and extinguish them," the ministry said. Simultaneously, the matter should be reported to the relevant police station for legal action under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). When the source of the observed light is unidentifiable or if it shifts locations, the airport or airline operator is obligated to promptly report the incident to the local police station, initiating potential criminal proceedings. Another amendment is that the requirement for validation of foreign licenses has been removed. "This change signifies aligning the regulations with the evolving needs of the aviation sector," the ministry said. According to the ministry, this change offers increased flexibility to accommodate situations with limited movements or watch hours. ATC license holders must complete a minimum of ten hours of simulated exercises, including emergencies. Subsequently, they must undergo a skill assessment for their respective rating within ten consecutive days of commencing these exercises, it said. The ministry said the amendments to the Aircraft Rules, 1937, notified on October 10, mark a crucial shift in promoting ease of doing business and ensuring safety and security within the aviation sector. India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. Airlines are expanding their aircraft fleet and will be hiring more pilots to cater to rising air traffic demand.

New Delhi, Apr 18 () Pre-paid customers of BSNL, who could not recharge their accounts during the lockdown, will continue to get incoming calls till May 5, the company said on Saturday.     "In view of hardships faced by the subscribers whose validity has expired during the lockdown period and are having almost zero balance, BSNL as a humane gesture, is extending the validity of all such subscribers up to May 5, 2020, free of cost, so that the subscribers continue to receive incoming calls," the state-run telecom firm said in a statement.    BSNL has also launched recharge helpline on a toll-free number for subscribers to get their recharge done.     The facility is currently available in North and West zones and will be available from April 22, 2020, in south and east zones."BSNL firmly stands beside its subscribers during this crisis period and we request the subscribers to 'Go Digital' for recharging their accounts," BSNL CMD PK Purwar said Shri.
