The ruling <keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword> was ahead of the <keyword id="1575" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="congress" source="Orion">Congress</keyword> in <keyword id="44522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand" source="Orion">Uttarakhand</keyword> with its party candidates leading in 33 seats on Thursday, according to early trends available. According to data available on the Election Commission website at 10:20 AM am for 56 seats, the Congress was ahead in 18 seats, the BSP in two seats, the Uttarakhand Janekta party and independent in one each. Prominent candidates trailing in their respective seats include Congress veteran Harish Rawat, who was trailing behind Mohan Singh Bisht of the BJP by 2,713 votes in Lalkuan and Subodh Uniyal of the BJP trailing behind Om Gopal Rawat of the Congress in Narendra Nagar. Yashpal Arya, who had returned to the Congress from the BJP ahead of the polls, was also trailing behind BJP's Rajesh Kumar in Bajpur by 18587 votes. Pritam Singh of the Congress was leading in Chakrata by 1805 votes against Ramsharan Nautiyal of the BJP The polling was held in the state on February 14 with more than 65 per cent of the electorate casting their votes. The ruling BJP is seeking a second consecutive term in office this time, something which has never happened in the state's 21-year history. Routed in the 2017 assembly polls with a tally of 11 seats against the BJP's 57, the Congress is trying to stage a comeback. Prominent candidates who contested the polls are Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, his cabinet colleagues Satpal Maharaj, Bansidhar Bhagat, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Dhan Singh Rawat and Rekha Arya, besides state BJP president Madan Kaushik. <keyword id="5652234" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pushkar-Singh-Dhami">Pushkar Singh Dhami</keyword> will be the new chief minister of <keyword id="44522" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword> following his election on Saturday as the leader of the BJP legislature party in the hill state where assembly polls are due next year. The 45-year-old will be the youngest chief minister of the state and replaces <keyword id="1498654" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tirath-Singh-Rawat">Tirath Singh Rawat</keyword>, who resigned on Friday night within four months of taking charge from <keyword id="2253089" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trivendra-Singh-Rawat">Trivendra Singh Rawat</keyword>. Dhami will be sworn in on Sunday, Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar told reporters after a legislature party meeting at the state BJP headquarters where he was a central observer. "My party has appointed a common worker, son of an ex-serviceman, who was born in the border district of Pithoragarh to serve the people. "We'll work on people's issues with the cooperation of all. I will carry forward the work done by my predecessors," Dhami, a two-time MLA from Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district, said. As Dhami takes over less than a year ahead of the next assembly elections, his biggest challenge lies in leading the BJP to another victory and retaining power in Uttarakhand, where the party has been plagued by factionalism. Changing chief ministers twice in a short span has not helped the party's image, with the opposition Congress accusing it of causing "political instability" and betraying the people. "We accept the challenge and we will take forward the party and serve the people," Dhami said when asked whether taking over as CM just months ahead of assembly polls will be an uphill task. The chief minister-elect thanked the party leadership for reposing faith in him and said that he will work with everyone's cooperation. Pushkar Singh Dhami to be the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand replacing Tirath Singh Rawat

As counting of votes for <keyword id="6359754" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manipur" source="Orion">Manipur</keyword>'s Assembly polls in underway, the state's ruling <keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword> is leading on nine seats, while the Congress is ahead in four and Janata Dal (United) in three, according to election officials. According to the Election Commission's initial trends, the Republican Party of India (Athawale), Naga People's Front, National People's Party, Kuki People's Alliance and independent candidates were leading one seat each. Counting is ongoing in 41 counting halls across 16 districts in the state amid tight security measures, as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) against Covid-19, officials said. The state's Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Agrawal said there a three-tier security has been put in place in and around the counting centres and adjoining areas. According to the election officials, around 89.3 per cent of the 20,48,169-strong electorate cast their votes in the two-phase election to the 60-member Manipur Assembly on February 28 and March 5. This year's voting percentage is higher than the 2017 and 2012 Assembly elections, when 86.4 per cent and 79.5 per cent electorate had exercised their franchise respectively. In all, 265 candidates including 17 female candidates of different political parties including the BJP, Congress, NPP, NPF and Janata Dal (United) contested the elections. Dehradun, Jun 2 () TV actor Mohena Kumari Singh, best known for "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai", on Tuesday said she is struggling with sleep after she, along with family members, were diagnosed with the coronavirus. Mohena, who last year tied the knot with Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj's son Suyesh Rawat, was admitted to a hospital in Rishikesh on Sunday. The actor uploaded a note on Instagram in which she detailed her experience with the disease. "Can't sleep. These initial days have been difficult for all of us at home especially our young one and our elders. But I'm praying it'll all be over soon. We are fine. We have no right to complain about anything as there are people out there who are suffering way more than us," Mohena wrote. "But I'd like to thank each one of you for all the messages, prayers and love you'll have been sending. It's keeping our spirits up. And we have so much gratitude in our hearts for you all," the former "Dance India Dance" contestant added. Mohena Kumari Singh on testing positive for COVID-19: Can't sleep, initial days been difficult

Chandigarh, Dec 4 () Ahead of the two-day Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, the Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday approved several amendments to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, with an aim to 'boost ease of doing business'.
 The amendments relate to sections 2A, 25K, 25N and 25-O, a state government release said.
 Currently, there is no time limit for raising an industrial dispute before a conciliation officer and its reference later to the labour court under Section 2A of the Act. 
 The amendment to section 2A would now provide a time limit of three years, so that stale matters are not agitated after lapse of a certain time, the release said.
 Section 25K of the Act provides that the provisions of Chapter VB of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 get attracted when any industrial establishment employs 100 or more workers. 
 Any entity within the ambit of chapter VB has to take prior approval from the state government before closing down the industry, lay off, retrenchment or lock-out. 
 However, with the amendment to the section, the provisions of chapter VB shall be attracted only when at least 300 workers are employed in the factory, the release said.
 Further, Section 25 N of the Act states that prior approval of the state government should be obtained, besides complying with other conditions, before retrenching an employee. 
 The management has to give three months' notice or three months' wages in lieu thereof for retrenching any employee. 
 It was felt that three months' notice be made mandatory and extra three months' wages be paid to the worker before retrenchment by amending section 25N (1)(a) and clause 9 of section 25N of the Act.
 Notably, the Punjab government is organising investors summit starting Thursday and the event will see participation from micro, small and medium enterprises, apart from leading industrialists, new-age entrepreneurs, foreign missions and other dignitaries.
 According to Section 25-O, before closing an industry, the management has to get approval from government and workers are compensated by paying 15 days' pay for every completed year of service. 
 "The existing sub-section(8) of Section-25-O stipulates that where an undertaking is permitted to be closed down under sub section (2), or where permission for closure is deemed to be granted under sub section (3), every workman who is employed in that undertaking immediately before the date of application for permission under this section, shall be entitled to receive compensation, which shall be equivalent to 15 days' average pay for every completed year of continuous service or any part thereof in excess of 6 months," the release said.
 The governments of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan have already amended sub section (8) of 25-O to provide additional wages for three months, besides providing above mentioned compensation to the workers. 
 It was felt that this may provide more financial security to the workers in the event of closure of the industry, and therefore Sub section (8) of Section 25-O has been amended on the lines of Rajasthan government, the release added. CHS VSD RVK
