Torrential rains and landslides because of a cloudburst have killed as many as 12 people, while 25 others have gone missing from <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword>'s Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts. Several villages were buried in mud and many residents are reported to be trapped under the debris. 
 
SDM Chamoli SK Barnwal told TOI that eight persons trapped in the debris have been rescued so far. 
 
Because of the cloudburst in Singhali area of Pithorgarh, the district registered over 100 mm rainfall in two hours in a region of 50 squrae kilometre, which led to several homes being washed away. 
 
Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat expressed grief over the loss of these lives and announced Rs two lakhs as compensation to their families. 
 
Yesterday, the MeT department of Dehradun had issued a warning of heavy rains in isolated places in Uttarakhand especially Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar and Champawat districts.

All the exit polls have predicted a comfortable win for the BJP. According to News18 exit poll, BJP is going to win 4-5 seats in Uttarakhand while Indian National Congress may not even bag single seat. On the other hand, Today’s Chanakya has predicted full majority for BJP in Uttarakhand with Congress winning zero seats. Uttarakhand state has five Lok Sabha seats in total to give the parliament. As per the Election Commission’s announcement, polling for all these five seats during the Lok Sabha elections 2019 was held in a single phase on April 11, when the country went for the first round of polling. At present, the BJP holds all the five seats in the state having faced a momentous victory in 2014 general elections for the Lok Sabha. The three major parties facing the elections from the state are BJP, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Across the five constituencies of the state, 52 candidates are lined up to test their lucks this time. The most prominent regional party in the state, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) is also contesting from all the five seats during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In Tehri Garhwal seat, Mala Rajya Lakshmi, the BJP sitting MP is taking on Pritam Singh of Congress. From the Garhwal constituency, Tirath Singh Rawat of BJP is fighting with the Congress candidate Minish Khanduri. BJP has fielded Ajay Tamta from Alomora, Ajay Bhatt from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar and Ramesh Pokhriyal from Haridwar. They will lock horns with the Congress candidates of Pradeep Tamta in Almora, Harish Rawat from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar and Ambrish Kumar from Haridwar respectively.

Uttarakhand Lok Sabha Election Result 2019: BJP wins in all five seats

The ruling <keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword> was ahead of the <keyword id="1575" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="congress" source="Orion">Congress</keyword> in <keyword id="44522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand" source="Orion">Uttarakhand</keyword> with its party candidates leading in 33 seats on Thursday, according to early trends available. According to data available on the Election Commission website at 10:20 AM am for 56 seats, the Congress was ahead in 18 seats, the BSP in two seats, the Uttarakhand Janekta party and independent in one each. Prominent candidates trailing in their respective seats include Congress veteran Harish Rawat, who was trailing behind Mohan Singh Bisht of the BJP by 2,713 votes in Lalkuan and Subodh Uniyal of the BJP trailing behind Om Gopal Rawat of the Congress in Narendra Nagar. Yashpal Arya, who had returned to the Congress from the BJP ahead of the polls, was also trailing behind BJP's Rajesh Kumar in Bajpur by 18587 votes. Pritam Singh of the Congress was leading in Chakrata by 1805 votes against Ramsharan Nautiyal of the BJP The polling was held in the state on February 14 with more than 65 per cent of the electorate casting their votes. The ruling BJP is seeking a second consecutive term in office this time, something which has never happened in the state's 21-year history. Routed in the 2017 assembly polls with a tally of 11 seats against the BJP's 57, the Congress is trying to stage a comeback. Prominent candidates who contested the polls are Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, his cabinet colleagues Satpal Maharaj, Bansidhar Bhagat, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Dhan Singh Rawat and Rekha Arya, besides state BJP president Madan Kaushik. Important Congress leaders whose fate will be decided include former chief minister Harish Rawat, former minister Yashpal Arya, state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of Opposition in the fourth assembly Pritam Singh. <keyword id="80487" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="walmart">Walmart</keyword> is planning to open around 50 new stores in India over the next three-to-four years, around half of which would come up in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword>, which recently saw <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/politics/bjps-victory-in-uttar-pradesh-just-established-five-socio-politicalfacts/articleshow/57606253.cms">BJP coming to power</a>.

As of now, there are around 20 Walmart stores in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/small-business/companies/CVC-summons-Walmart-India-head-over-bribery-charges/articleshow/49660050.cms">India</a>. Besides Uttarakhand and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/modi-hopes-record-development-in-up-with-yogi-adityanath-as-cm/articleshow/57717700.cms">Uttar Pradesh</a>, there would be 10 new stores each in Maharashtra, <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> and <keyword id="68884" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword>. 
 
Talking of UP and Uttarakhand, there might be two more stores coming in Lucknow, along with Ghaziabad, Noida, Kanpur, Allahabad, Haridwar, Dehradun and Haldwani.

These stores provide direct and indirect employment to 2,000-2,500 persons each, and opening stores at this level means that the company may end up creating over 40,000 jobs in UP and Uttarakhand combined.

In other news, Walmart is also looking forward to getting clarity on the food retail guidelines so that it can enter into food retail in the country as it does not want to limit itself to domestically produced and manufactured food products.

Walmart to open 50 new stores in India; focuses on Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand

The move came after heavy speculation through out morning, with Rawat expected to address a press conference ahead of his meeting the Governor. However, the 60-year-old BJP leader first met Maurya and then proceeded to the media conference. After three days of political upheavel, speculation in the state ended as Rawat submitted his resignation to Maurya after he reached the Raj Bhawan just past 4 p.m. The BJP legislative party will meet Wednesday morning to select the new Chief Minister of the state, a senior party leader said. He said that Rawat submitted his resignation as he was directed by the party central leadership to resign after discontent in the BJP legislative party. "After his meeting with central leadership yesterday in the national capital, it seems that BJP leadership has informed Rawat about possible change of leadership in the Uttarakhand government as there is a lot of resentment against him," he said. Uttarakhand BJP vice president Devendra Bhasin earlier told IANS that the Chief Minister was scheduled to address a press conference and likely make a crucial statement on political speculation going on in the state. Bhasin further stated that he heard that Uttarakhand BJP chief Banshidhar Bhagat has called a meeting of legislative party at 11 a.m. Wednesday. "I am not aware about the agenda of the legislative party but a meeting has been called tomorrow," Bhasin said. "After his meeting with central leadership yesterday in the national capital, it seems that BJP leadership has informed Rawat about possible change of leadership in the Uttarakhand government. Now he might step down from the office," another BJP leader said. On Monday evening, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP chief J.P. Nadda, National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh discussed the political development in the hill state. BJP National General Secretary and state in-charge, Dushyant Gautam was part of discussion. Meeting was called after several MLAs questioned Rawat's style of functioning. "Bureaucracy is getting more powerful and voices of elected representatives are unheard," said a party member from Uttarakhand. On Saturday, the BJP leadership sent former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and Gautam as observers to meet state leaders and get a feedback. "Both the leaders met the members of the core committee and took their opinion. Report was submitted to BJP leadership," said a party insider. It is learnt that the report mentioned that it will be difficult for the party to win the next year state assembly polls with Rawat as the face of BJP. In 2017, Rawat was made Chief Minister after BJP won in Uttarakhand.
