With emission and fuel efficiency norms getting tighter, <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s largest car maker <keyword id="6363602" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki-india-ltd" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki India Ltd</keyword> expects to have only hybrid (mild and strong), flexible fuel, compressed natural gas (CNG), electric, bio-fuel powered vehicles, said a senior official. As a result, pure petrol powered cars may not figure in the company's portfolio of cars in a decade. Already the company has stopped rolling out diesel powered cars. <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> is also focusing on growing its sport utility vehicle portfolio and the market share in that segment. "Pure petrol powered cars may not be there in the company's product line up, say in 10 years time as the emission and fuel efficiency norms are getting tighter," Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director, Marketing &amp; Sales told IANS. He said the new Corporate Average Fuel Economy or Efficiency (CAFA per cent) norms may come into place in 2032. Unlike the norms for the tailpipe emissions, the CAFA% norms are for a carmaker's entire portfolio. More the fuel efficiency of a car, the less the tailpipe emissions. As there is a limit on achieving higher fuel efficiency with the current technology, companies are looking at alternatives. While electric vehicles are one option, it is not viable for the entire automotive segment in India in the short term owing to issues like availability of charging infrastructure, vehicle price and its payback period and others. The other option is rolling out vehicles powered by mixed fuel -- ethanol plus petrol, hybrid, flexible fuel, CNG and the like. Be that as it may, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for unveiling its first midsize petrol-electric hybrid SUV on July 20. The vehicle will be rolled out in two variants-mild and strong. Maruti Suzuki to discontinue petrol-powered cars in 10 years

According to reliable sources, SoftBank-backed Ola has asked senior executives to find employees in their teams on performance basis who can be asked to go. The company is reportedly looking at "leaner and consolidated teams" to keep its "strong profitability intact". Ola, which has delayed its IPO plans, has also reportedly shopped its global investment plans to further expand overseas. The company currently has nearly 1,100 employees in its core ride-hailing business and directly competes with Uber. Last month, Ola shut down its used vehicle business <keyword id="3295694" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-cars" source="Orion">Ola Cars</keyword> as well as <keyword id="13052888" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-dash" source="Orion">Ola Dash</keyword>, its quick-commerce business. Ola may end up firing another 500 people to save up costs

An application has been filed, seeking <keyword id="54626" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Geographical-Indication" source="Orion">Geographical Indication</keyword> (GI) certification tag for <keyword id="6811039" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shehnai" source="Orion">shehnai</keyword>, a musical instrument taken to its zenith by the renowned musician of Kashi, <keyword id="359549" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ustad-bismillah-khan" source="Orion">Ustad Bismillah Khan</keyword>. The GI application was filed on Tuesday by a Varanasi-based cultural organisation, Bharat Ratna <keyword id="5782" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ustad" source="Orion">Ustad</keyword> Bismillah Khan Foundation, with the support of Padma Shri awardee Dr Rajani <keyword id="287016" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kant" source="Orion">Kant</keyword> of Human Welfare Association, who is also known as the 'GI Man' of India for his proactive role in filing over 125 GI applications across the country. Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan Foundation, which is a cultural society established in 2009, is looked after by its managing trustee, Syed Abbas Murtaza Shamsi. "Shehnai and <keyword id="6357203" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="varanasi" source="Orion">Varanasi</keyword> are synonymous with the city. It was the Ustad who lifted shehnai from the ignominy of being an obscure wind instrument played at marriages to an ideal medium of classical music," said Dr Rajani Kant, adding that Varanasi has been associated with this instrument for years, and still continues to produce some of the finest players of the instrument. According to him, the application was filed at GI Registry in Chennai. "More than anyone else, Ustad Bismillah Khan was solely responsible for popularising shehnai as a concert instrument both, nationally and internationally," he said. The shehnai is made of wood, with a double reed at one end and a metal flared bell at the other end. Its sound creates and maintains a sense of auspiciousness and sanctity, and as a result, is widely used during marriages and in temples. "The making of shehnai comes in the category of handicraft, and there about 60-70 artisans engaged in this craft in Varanasi," said Kant, who is instrumental in getting GI-tags to most of the goods in Varanasi and adjoining districts. According to records, the Varanasi region of eastern UP has 16 GI-tagged products, including Banaras Brocade and Sarees, handmade carpet of Bhadohi, Banaras Gulabi Meenakari Craft, Varanasi Wooden Lacquerware and Toys, Nizamabad Black Pottery, Banaras Metal Repousse Craft, Varanasi Glass Beads, Ghazipur Wall Hanging, Varanasi Soft Stone Jali Work, Chunar Balua Patthar, Chunar Glazed Pottery, Banaras Zardozi, Mirzapur Pital Bartan, Banaras Wood Carving, Banaras Hand Block Print and Mau Saree. "The GI tag carries an assurance of quality and distinctiveness which is essentially attributable to the fact of its origin in that defined geographical locality, region or country," said Kant. London, Apr 19 () An award winning Indian dancer and choreographer in the UK has started offering a range of online sessions on Indian and Western music under the banner 'Dance Karona' to participants from several nations to beat the blues after the coronavirus lockdown led to cancellations of her upcoming performances in several countries.'Dance Karona' -- says Kuchipudi dancer Arunima Kumar, who begins her class with a digital hug to participants from Poland, Spain, Britain, India, US, Brazil and the UAE.Arunima, former Delhi Police chief Neeraj Kumar's daughter and a London School of Economics (LSE) graduate, left her corporate career to run a dance company in London and the news of the lockdown brought her cancellations for upcoming performances in UK, Poland and France, putting her team under pressure financially and emotionally.However, few days later she had over 100 participants grooving to both Indian and Western music digitally with Arunima offering a range of sessions using Facebook, Instagram and Zoom. The classes include yoga, Indian classical dance, Bollywood fitness, chair dance moves for the elderly with breathing exercises, among others which are also customised as per demands of participants."It was depressing, scary and we felt we had lost our livelihood. It was our darkest hour. I have worked hard past 10 years to build my team and company, engage with my communities through Indian art and culture and at a time when there is so much anxiety and stress, I felt I must stay resilient."I believe that physical distancing may be a new reality in these times but not social distancing. Socially, we must stay connected even more, else we will lose our sanity," she told .She said she was also connecting with artists who have suffered huge losses in their profession due to the lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak that has claimed more than 160,000 lives worldwide."Without people there are no arts and the gig economy is the hardest hit. According to Kornelya, a participant from Poland, "we need this, it was super energetic and now I am in a positive mood. Next time, I will bring my husband Roberto"."To me, it was meaningful because I got fired last week from my job. I was so low but today I could smile and dance and be free," she said.For Mala Kumar, "it is fun and fitness at its best and there is a reason to dress up and feel good during the lockdown. After two weeks of isolation, I felt happy. I was e-meeting others and had put on make up. It is also great for kids as they can exercise, sing and dance. They feel normal despite the physical closure of schools".Arunima also has an extra-hand during digital classes. Her 6-year-old daughter Aishwarya Gupta, who is now at home until schools open again."She joins in on most sessions, changes her costumes. This keeps her healthy and happy.
