SBI’s mobile banking app is down for the third time in 30 days — digital services take a hit for the 25th time this year

Cyber security researchers have found a <keyword id="9994130" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-trojan-malware">new Trojan malware</keyword> named Alien that can steal credentials from 226 Android apps in several countries including in India. Alien targeted other apps as well like Gmail, Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, Snapchat and WhatsApp. Most targets are banking apps, but Alien can also show phishing pages for social, instant messaging, and cryptocurrency apps, reports ZDNet. The <keyword id="9994132" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="alien-malware">Alien malware</keyword> is a rented banking Trojan which offers more than the average capabilities of Android banking Trojans. According to security researchers from ThreatFabric, it has common capabilities such as overlay attacks, control and steal SMS messages and harvest the contact list. The malware can leverage its keylogger for any use and, therefore, broaden the attack scope further than its target list. "It also offers the possibility to install, start and remove applications from the infected device". Most importantly, it offers a notifications sniffer, allowing it to get the content of all notifications on the infected device, and a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) feature (by abusing the TeamViewer application), meaning that the threat actors can perform the fraud from the victim's device. According to cyber security researchers, Alien is not a new piece of code but based on the source code of a rival malware named Cerberus which was an active malware-as-a-service (MaaS) last year. "We also notice an interest from actors in recording and stealing more information surrounding the victim. How that information will be used or monetized can vary, it is just a matter of time before actors find out about the value of such information," the researchers noted in a blog post. The last quarter of 2020 will probably come with some additional changes to the threat landscape, especially since the source code of the Cerberus Trojan has been made publicly available. In the coming months, we can definitively expect some new malware families, based on Cerberus, to emerge, the researchers added. "We strongly recommend all financial institutions to understand their current and future threat exposure and consequently implement the relevant detection and control mechanisms". Of the $14 billion worth of bookings that Accenture had on its books during the fourth quarter, more than half was from outsourcing. Shriram City Union Finance India’s central bank, RBI has levied a ₹5 lakh penalty on the Chennai-based Shriram City Union Finance for non-compliance with its directions on verification of the ownership of gold jewellery contained in NBFC. Mahindra and Mahindra Anand Mahindra-led automotive major, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) bought more shares in Finland-based harvester maker Sampo Rosenlew Oy. M&amp;M had picked up a 35% stake in the Finnish firm in 2016 before raising it to 49.1% over the next four years, and now it has spent ₹18 crore to increase its stake to 74.97% stake in the firm. GAIL and ONGC GAIL (India) has cut supplies by about 40% to customers, mainly power and fertiliser companies, after a pipeline rupture led to a fire in an ONGC’s Gujarat plant. GAIL in a statement said “about 30 mmscmd of natural gas supplies into its north-western pipeline network (HVJ system) was immediately shut-off” following the fire. The shares of GAIL and ONGC ended 4% and 3% lower, respectively, yesterday. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said it has been hired as a digital transformation partner by women fashion retail chain Maurices. TCS will help the company build its greenfield IT ecosystem with the intent of optimising its 200 existing applications and software components within the next 17 months. RITES The engineering consultancy company, RITES has bagged a ₹206 crore contract to construct four roads over bridges in Andhra Pradesh from Indian Railways. “RITES Ltd has been awarded a turnkey contract for construction of (ROBs) in replacement of existing level crossings on competition basis from Railway Board amounting to Rs 205.85 crore,” the company said in a statement. Indian indices fell the most amongst emerging Asian markets today. According to Arun Kumar, Market Strategist at Reliance Securities, the current deterioration in the Indian equities is due to negative global cues followed by relatively heavy selling by FIIs on the cash segment. “The Information Technology sector, led by TCS &amp; Infosys lost almost eight days gains in just one trading session. Additionally, the bellwether sector Banks also failed to garner any buying interest and collapsed as bears pressed ahead with their selling pressure. The Nifty 50 has edged closer to its long-term average of 10,760 (200 DMA). Any fresh selling below this point would damage the medium-term sentiments of the market,” he said. <ul><li>Resurgence of coronavirus cases </li></ul>Analysts believe the looming COVID-19 uncertainty in the US and Europe also contributed to the downfall in the global market. "Given the uncertainty to economic outlook from the second wave of covid, US presidential elections and the US stimulus package, investors are shunning risky assets. Commodities and equities have sold off," said Abhishek Goenka, Founder and CEO, IFA Global. <ul><li>Strong dollar and FII outflows</li></ul>“The ‘Dollar Index’ which we had recently highlighted for its breakout has moved higher which too is not good for the equity markets. The immediate support for Nifty is placed in the range of 10800-10750 followed by 10670, whereas 11000-11100 will be seen as resistance on pullback moves. Thus, we continue with our advice for traders to stay light and avoid overnight positions,” Ruchit Jain Senior Analyst — Technical and Derivatives at Angel Broking said. <ul><li>F&amp;O expiry jitters</li></ul>Calling it one of the “worst expiry days” for Indian markets in the recent past, Jain from Angel Broking said “There was no respite for any of the indexes as all the sectors, including the recent outperformers took a sharp knock.” And, according to Vinod Nair, <a href="https://www.livemint.com/market/stock-market-news/sensex-slumps-nearly-2-500-points-in-6-days-key-reasons-for-this-selloff-11600931500520.html">Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services</a>, “The uncertainty regarding an economic recovery, the unabated rise in virus infections, and today being derivatives expiry day, all contributed to the negativity.” Analysts see further weakness in the market Sachin Jain, an analyst at ICICI Securities, said the year so far has been a tale of two halves with the first half in February and March witnessing a sharp unprecedented fall, while the second half since then witnessed a sharp recovery. “The correction in the range of 10-15%, particularly in mid-and small-caps, should not be construed as negative”. But Jain remained positive on the overall outlook of the market and recommended the buy on dips investment strategy.
