According to the report, India's population in 2024 is projected at 1.45 billion and this will peak to 1.69 billion in 2054. After this, India's population is projected to decline to 1.5 billion by the end of the century in 2100, but the country will still remain the most populous nation on Earth. Responding to a question by PTI on population projections for India, Senior Population Affairs Officer, Population Division, <keyword id="6355835" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="un" source="Orion">UN</keyword> DESA Clare Menozzi said at a press conference that "India is currently the largest country in the world in terms of population, and it is projected to stay so throughout the century. The population is currently estimated at 1.45 billion, and it's supposed to increase further to 1.69 billion. "It's supposed to peak around the 2060s in size and then it starts to slightly decline. So by the end of the century, India is projected to be around 1.5 billion, but will still the largest country in the world by a large margin." The report said that China's population, currently 1.41 billion in 2024, will fall to 1.21 billion in 2054 and further decline to 633 million by 2100. "It is anticipated that China, the country currently with the world's second-largest population, will likely experience the largest absolute population loss between 2024 and 2054 (204 million)," followed by <keyword id="6355311" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Japan" source="Orion">Japan</keyword> (21 million) and <keyword id="6358826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Russia" source="Orion">Russia</keyword> (10 million). "Longer-range population projections are more uncertain" for China, it said. "However, due to its large size and sustained low level of fertility, China is also likely to record the largest population decline of any country through the end of the century (786 million people). The current number is right around one birth per woman on average over a lifetime." "Given that you need 2.1 births to maintain the current population without migration, if fertility levels remain at such a low level, even if they come up slightly, any fertility level if it's below two, or especially below 1.8 or below 1.5, you're really getting into low levels of fertility and it produces a long run decline that's quite significant. And that's true for China. It's true for some other countries in this analysis," Wilmoth said. Currently, nearly one-fifth of all countries and areas, including China, Italy, the Republic of Korea and Spain, are experiencing what is sometimes referred to as "ultra-low" fertility, with fewer than 1.4 live births per woman over a lifetime. The report added that the global fertility rate currently stands at 2.25 live births per woman, down from 3.31 births in 1990. "More than half of all countries and areas globally have fertility below the replacement level of 2.1 live births per woman. This is the level required for a population to maintain a constant size in the long run (without migration), with each generation being followed by another of roughly equal size," it said. Pakistan is projected to overtake the US as the third-largest country in the world, with a population of 389 million in 2054. Currently, the US is the third largest country in the world with a population of 345 million and in 2054, it will be the fourth largest with 384 million people. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020 and 2021, global life expectancy at birth fell to 70.9 years, down from 72.6 in 2019. The report said that by 2080, persons aged 65 or older will outnumber children under 18. "By the late 2070s, the number of persons at ages 65 years and higher globally is projected to reach 2.2 billion, surpassing the number of children (under age 18). By the mid-2030s, it is projected that there will be 265 million persons aged 80 years or older, more than the number of infants (1 year of age or less)," it said.

It is known to be more aggressive in nature and usually diagnosed at an advanced stage. Increased screening may have contributed to increased diagnosis in younger men. However, there could also be a hereditary genetic syndrome causing prostate cancer in the men in a family." Timely diagnosis can help start the right treatment like surgery, hormonal therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. It is very important to check for hereditary genetic mutations in all prostate cancer patients, especially young patients, Sood underlined. Gupta concluded that men with a family history of prostate cancer are at a higher risk, especially if someone's father, brother or uncle was diagnosed with the disease. Genetic factors play a role, so those with a family history should consider earlier and more frequent screenings, he added. Healthy lifestyle habits can help reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, along with regular physical activity, can support prostate health. Reducing red meat and fat intake, along with avoiding smoking, can also help lower the risk, Gupta said. By staying informed, opting for regular screenings and following healthy lifestyle choices, men can significantly reduce the risks associated with prostate cancer, he added.

Much to the frustration of the US and its Western allies, North Korea has provided artillery and missiles.<h2 id="d17ef3b4-d228-4b93-88a5-d0674e1f4afa">How the West is responding to these growing threats</h2>"We're seeing this new axis — Russia, Iran, North Korea; we urge China not to throw their lot in with this group of renegades, renegades in the end that are costing lives here in Ukraine," UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said during a visit to Kyiv earlier this month. There have long been concerns about China's support for Russia, though.Western officials have repeatedly raised concerns about Chinese activities, and this past summer, NATO labeled China a "decisive enabler of Russia's war against Ukraine."The relationships between Russia, Iran, China, and North Korea — and their behaviors — have stirred fears that the US could be headed for a great power conflict in Europe or the Pacific or, at the very least, swamped by more problems than it can handle as top rivals and foes team up.The potential for a large-scale conflict between the US and Russia or China, for instance, has triggered warnings from experts and former officials that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/america-not-ready-china-war-military-economy-2023-5">Washington is not ready</a>.<div type="image" title="Kim Jong Un and four others watch the launch of a ballistic missile." height="3332" width="5000" msid="113695743" hostid="261" sizebytes="448370"></div>Robert Gates, who served as defense secretary under Presidents George W. America's rivals are piling on the pressure all at once

Regulator for <keyword id="100080" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="housing-finance" source="Orion">housing finance</keyword> firms <keyword id="141003" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nhb" source="Orion">NHB</keyword> has asked housing finance companies with asset size of over Rs 1,000 crore to adopt an early warning signals (EWS) framework to check financial frauds and also to prevent accounts from turning into non-performing assets. <keyword id="152130" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-housing-bank" source="Orion">National Housing Bank</keyword> (NHB), in a recent circular, said analysis of the frauds reported by the housing finance companies (HFCs) has revealed that the reasons behind accounts being identified as fraud accounts are seller impersonation, submission of fake income/ employment documents, submission of fake title deeds, a collusion of the builder and borrower. It has also been observed that such deficiencies are identified only when the borrower stops paying the EMIs after the disbursement of the loans, NHB said. "It has been therefore decided that an Early Warning Signals (EWS) Framework should be adopted by the HFCs so that an alert is triggered before the account turns into non-performing asset (NPA) or declared as a fraud account," it said. NHB circular further said that tracking of the EWS must be integrated with the credit monitoring process in the systems of the HFCs so that it becomes a continuous activity. Through the EWS framework, HFCs will be encouraged to take into account fraud risks in their risk management practices. NHB has asked the housing finance companies to place the circular before their boards for information and to devise an implementation strategy. "The mechanism needs to be put in place by April 1, 2024," it said. The NHB has provided an indicative list of EWS for individual borrowers (retail). This includes 'disbursement of loan done without meeting all pre-disbursement conditions', 'occupation of the borrower has changed', 'adverse developments in the sector in which the borrower is employed', and 'company is unable to contact the borrower during credit monitoring'. The regulator has also suggested an indicative list of EWS for corporate and project loans. NHB asks large housing finance companies to adopt early warning signals framework

But in Big Sky Country, as in much of the nation, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/housing-crisis-homeowners-struggling-mortgage-interest-rates-insurance-home-equity-2024-6">costs associated with homeownership</a>, including home insurance premiums, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/05/22/montana-pandemic-property-boom-taxes/">property taxes</a>, and home repairs, have also risen quickly.Older homeowners who live on fixed incomes are having a particularly hard time managing these rising costs. With mortgage interest rates sky-high and home inventory low, they have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/baby-boomers-wont-sell-homes-millennials-kids-need-housing-affordability-2024-1">few options to downsize</a>.Beverly Dashnaw has worked as a HUD-certified housing counselor for about two decades in Montana, and she says she's never seen so many retired and older homeowners struggling to make ends meet. She blames rising property taxes and insurance costs but notes that inflation, in general, has also squeezed those on fixed incomes."Elderly and disabled people are struggling really, really hard," she said. "The cost of living, inflation is going up for everything, and their income doesn't go up."Montana's crisis is particularly acute as it has one of the oldest populations in the US. The Census Bureau estimated that in 2020, nearly <a target="_blank" href="https://www.prb.org/resources/which-us-states-are-the-oldest/">20% of the state's residents</a> were 65 or older, significantly higher than the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2023/05/2020-census-united-states-older-population-grew.html#:~:text=The%20older%20population%20reached%2055.8,less%20than%201%20in%2020.">16.8% share nationwide</a>. The state is also particularly impacted by the climate crisis — in the form of more severe wildfires and hail storms, among other extreme weather events — which is pushing its insurance premiums up <a target="_blank" href="https://nbcmontana.com/news/local/climate-change-drives-up-home-insurance-rates-in-montana">among the fastest in the country</a>.But Montana isn't alone. Older homeowners are struggling in communities across the country. Insurance costs have risen dramatically all over — a result of both increasingly severe climate issues, including flooding and fires, and the elevated cost of home construction and repairs. Nationally, home insurance premiums rose by an average of 21% between May 2022 and May 2023, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.policygenius.com/homeowners-insurance/home-insurance-pricing-report-2023/#:~:text=Homeowners%20insurance%20premiums%20in%20the,active%20policies%20quoted%20for%20renewal.">Policygenius</a> found. Home repairs are also more costly these days, with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/housing-crisis-national-shortage-construction-workers-job-demand-2024-5">shortage of construction workers</a> and the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.constructiondive.com/news/falling-material-prices-expected-reverse-course/651744/">elevated cost of materials</a>.The portion of homeowners 55 and older who are cost-burdened — or spend more than 30% of their income on housing and utilities — rose from 30% in 2001 to 45% in 2022, a new report from the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.jchs.harvard.edu/sites/default/files/reports/files/Harvard_JCHS_The_State_of_the_Nations_Housing_2024.pdf">Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies</a> on the state of US housing found. "A shocking 95 percent of older adult homeowners with low incomes and mortgages are cost burdened, dramatically higher than the 56 percent of their counterparts who own their homes outright and the 74 percent of those who rent," the report found.The housing-affordability crisis coincides with the country's retirement crisis. A fifth of Americans 50 and older <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-x-baby-boomers-savings-cant-afford-retirement-2024-4">have no retirement savings</a>. And older people are increasingly losing their homes. The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.governing.com/urban/the-nations-homeless-population-is-aging-dramatically">portion of homeless single adults who are 50 or older</a> is estimated to have grown from about 10% to 50% over the past three decades.<h2 id="c58fe91f-2b43-4b62-b26e-289e822befc8">A crisis exacerbated by the pandemic</h2>Dashnaw works for the nonprofit NeighborWorks Montana, where she counsels existing homeowners struggling to afford their housing costs or facing foreclosure, potential first-time homebuyers, and those seeking affordable rental housing. Many of her clients are also struggling with illness."A lot of it is the health issues," she added. "People that got sick during COVID or even after and just couldn't manage to catch up their payments."Those who own mobile homes but not the land the home sits on are increasingly <a target="_blank" href="https://missoulian.com/news/local/nowhere-to-go-mobile-home-residents-face-rising-rents/article_7f3eea80-edc7-11ed-95f4-97a0cc497914.html">vulnerable to rising rents</a>.Many older homeowners forced out of their housing end up homeless, part of a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/montana-city-grapples-with-rise-of-unhoused-people-living-in-vehicles">growing homeless population</a> in the state. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/11/10/1135125625/homelessness-elderly-housing-inflation">Montana's homeless shelters</a> have reported encountering more older people.Dashnaw says it has also become more common to see multiple families living in the same home. "That's another trend that you didn't see in years past," she said.While Montana's housing issues have been mounting for years, they exploded during the pandemic as tens of thousands of Californians and others took advantage of remote work and moved into the state. At the same time, the state's booming outdoor tourism has <a target="_blank" href="https://scholarworks.umt.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1419&amp;context=itrr_pubs">pushed long-term rentals off the market</a> in favor of Airbnb and other short-term rentals. The surge in demand from transplants with fat wallets sent home prices and rents soaring.
