Union Minister of Communication Jyotiraditya Scindia held the second round of meetings with the Stakeholders Advisory Committees (SACs) on Satellite Communication and Internet Service Providers &amp; Infrastructure Providers, said the <keyword id="20510599" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Communication" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Ministry of Communication" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Ministry of Communication">Ministry of Communication</keyword> on Friday. The ministry stated that discussions in the meeting revolved around current regulatory provisions and the seamless adoption and facilitation of the <keyword id="22125599" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="right-of-way" source="keywords">Right of Way</keyword> (RoW) for a digitally connected India. This initiative is critical in engaging industry leaders in expanding and shaping the future of India's <keyword id="22639384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="telecommunications-ecosystem" source="keywords">telecommunications ecosystem</keyword>. "Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the leadership of Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia along with Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications, started the second round of meetings with the recently constituted SACs, and met with SACs on Satellite Communication and Internet Service Providers &amp; Infrastructure Providers," said Ministry of Communications. The ministry added that the committee commended the recent progress in RoW processes but emphasized the ongoing need for integrated governance and enhanced cooperation from state governments and local municipal bodies. The Secretary (Telecom) also assured that the new rules under the New Telecom Act are designed to address many of the issues raised in the meeting. The Minister also encouraged industry stakeholders to actively participate by providing their feedback on the RoW rules. The Advisory Committee on Satellite Communication presented their views on Indian space policy, spectrum allocation, and SUC and suggested various measures for advancing India's position as a global hub for satellite communication. The committee also commended the Ministry for including key provisions in the New Telecom Act, which are set to modernize India's telecommunications framework by enabling more flexible, liberalized, and technologically neutral spectrum utilization. These changes will greatly benefit the advancement and efficiency of satellite communication services. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, to facilitate a consistent two-way dialogue with the government on matters related to the telecommunications sector, constituted six distinct SACs to provide valuable insights to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on various matters. The six advisory committees include members such as top CEOs, academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry thought leaders from the following sectors: Telecom Service Providers, Internet Service Providers &amp; Infrastructure Providers, Telecom Sector Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Telecom Electronics Ecosystem, Satellite Communication Ecosystem, and Academicians and R &amp; D in the Telecommunications sector. Telecom minister holds meeting with stakeholders on right of way for satellite communications

With rising cases of <keyword id="7616951" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="monkeypox" source="Orion">monkeypox</keyword> in the country, the <keyword id="83655" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="union-health-ministry" source="Orion">Union health ministry</keyword> on Wednesday released a list of <keyword id="857933" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dos-and-donts" source="Orion">dos and don'ts</keyword> to avoid contracting the disease. It also underlined that anyone can catch the virus if they have had prolonged or repeated contact with an infected individual. Among the dos, the ministry advised isolating the infected person from others so that the disease does not spread, use of hand sanitisers, or washing hands with soap and water, covering mouth with masks and hands with disposable gloves when close to a patient, and using disinfectants to sanitise the environment around. The don'ts state avoid sharing linen, beddings, clothes, towels, among others, with people who have tested positive for the infection. The ministry advised not to wash soiled linen or laundry of patients and those of non-infected persons together, and avoid public events even if you only exhibit symptoms of the disease. "Do not stigmatise people who have contracted the virus, and suspected patients as well. Also, do not believe any rumour or misinformation," it said. The 'Guidelines on Management of Monkeypox Disease' issued by the Centre stated that any person of any age having a history of travel to affected countries within the last 21 days presenting with an unexplained acute rash and symptoms like swollen lymph nodes, fever, headaches, body aches and profound weakness is to be considered a 'suspected case'. A 'probable case' has to be a person meeting the case definition for a suspected case, clinically compatible illness and has an epidemiological link like face-to-face exposure, including <keyword id="6354525" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="healthcare" source="Orion">healthcare</keyword> workers without appropriate <keyword id="1676024" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ppe" source="Orion">PPE</keyword>, direct physical contact with skin or skin lesions, including sexual contact, or contact with contaminated materials such as clothing, bedding or utensils, is suggestive of a strong epidemiological link. A case is considered laboratory confirmed for monkeypox virus (by detection of unique sequences of viral DNA either by polymerase chain reaction or PCR and/or sequencing). Defining contacts, the guidelines stated that a contact is defined as a person who, in the period beginning with the onset of the source case's first symptoms, and ending when all scabs have fallen off, has had one or more of the exposures -- face-to-face exposure, direct physical contact, including sexual contact, contact with contaminated materials such as clothing or bedding --- with a probable or confirmed case of monkey pox. Cases can be prompted to identify contacts across household, workplace, school/nursery, sexual contacts, healthcare, houses of worship, transportation, sports, social gatherings, and any other recalled interactions. Contacts should be monitored at least daily for the onset of signs/symptoms for a period of 21 days (as per case definition above) from the last contact with a patient or their contaminated materials during the infectious period. In case of occurrence of fever clinical/lab evaluation is warranted. Asymptomatic contacts should not donate blood, cells, tissue, organs or semen while they are under surveillance. Pre-school children may be excluded from day care, nursery, or other group settings. Meanwhile, a task force on monkeypox has been constituted to closely monitor the emerging situation in the country and decide on response initiatives to tackle the spread of the disease. It will also provide guidance to the government on expansion of diagnostic facilities in the country and explore emerging trends related to vaccination for the disease. The heath ministry guidelines stated that human-to-human transmission occurs primarily through large respiratory droplets generally requiring prolonged close contact. It can also be transmitted through direct contact with body fluids or lesions, and indirect contact with lesion material such as through contaminated clothing or linen of an infected person. Animal-to-human transmission may occur by bite or scratch of infected animals or through bushmeat preparation. The incubation period is usually from six to 13 days and the case fatality rate of monkeypox has historically ranged up to 11 per cent in the general population and higher among children. In recent times, the case fatality rate has been around 3 to 6 per cent. The symptoms include lesions which usually begin within one to three days from the onset of fever, lasting for around two to four weeks and are often described as painful until the healing phase when they become itchy. A notable predilection for palm and soles is characteristic of monkeypox, the guidelines stated. The <keyword id="6356311" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-organisation" source="Orion">World Health Organisation</keyword> (WHO) had recently declared monkeypox a global public health emergency of international concern. According to WHO, monkeypox is a viral zoonosis -- a virus transmitted to humans from animals -- with symptoms similar to smallpox although clinically less severe. Monkeypox typically manifests itself with fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes and may lead to a range of medical complications. It is usually a self-limited disease with symptoms lasting for two to four weeks. Health ministry releases dos and don'ts to prevent contracting monkeypox

The Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (<keyword id="6355142" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="drdo" source="Orion">DRDO</keyword>) that was tasked with investigating into EV fire incidents by the <keyword id="2518729" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="union-road-transport" source="Orion">Union Road Transport</keyword> and Highways <keyword id="48413" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ministry" source="Orion">Ministry</keyword>, has found serious defects in the batteries, including designs of the battery packs and modules. According to sources in the know of the matter, these defects occur because the electric two-wheeler manufacturers like <keyword id="6077703" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="okinawa-autotech" source="Orion">Okinawa Autotech</keyword>, Pure EV, Jitendra Electric Vehicles, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ola-electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword> and <keyword id="12512499" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="boom-motors" source="Orion">Boom Motors</keyword> may have used "lower-grade materials to cut costs". The Centre for Fire, Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) at the DRDO has submitted its fact-finding report to the Ministry, as first reported by Business Standard. According to the sources, the ministry has now summoned representatives of these EV manufacturers, asking them to submit an explanation on the DRDO report findings. Earlier this month, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), which comes under the <keyword id="2876140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="union-consumer-affairs-ministry" source="Orion">Union Consumer Affairs Ministry</keyword>, sent notices to Pure EV and Boom Motors after their e-scooters exploded in April. The consumer watchdog is also examining more cases of e-scooter fires and will serve similar notices to other EV makers too. Pure EV and Boom Motors along with Ola Electric, Jitendra EV, and Okinawa Autotech, recalled faulty batches after the EV fire incidents were reported. The preliminary findings from the government-constituted probe committee on EV fires have already identified issues with battery cells or design in nearly all of the electric two-wheeler fire incidents in the country. The committee was constituted in the wake of EV fires and battery blasts in e-scooters. The experts found defects in battery cells as well as battery design in nearly all EV fires. The government is now working on new quality-centric guidelines for EVs that will be unveiled soon. At least 12 electric two-wheelers have exploded till now and several EV makers have recalled the faulty batches amid the growing pressure from the government. Update: Ola Electric has issued a statement saying it has not received any communication from the government in this matter. DRDO examines EV fire incidents, finds serious battery defects

Despite the global economy operating under an extremely challenging macroeconomic environment like the geopolitical tensions in <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>, spiralling energy, food and fertiliser prices, monetary tightening and inflationary trends having elevated the downside risks to the global economic outlook, the Indian economy is estimated to grow by 7 per cent year-on-year in the current fiscal. The monthly economic review for January 2023 released by the finance ministry on Thursday, said that the measures announced in the union budget like a rise in capital expenditure, increased focus on infrastructure development, boost to the green economy, and initiatives for strengthening financial markets are expected to promote job creation and spur economic growth. "Measures announced for the MSME sector will likely reduce the cost of funds and aid small enterprises. Revision in tax slabs under the new personal income tax regime is expected to boost consumption, thus providing more impetus to economic growth," it noted. In addition to this, easier KYC norms, expansion of <keyword id="11907269" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="digilocker" source="Orion">DigiLocker</keyword> services, and overall impetus on digitisation and last-mile connectivity are predicted to strengthen financial markets, the survey noted further. Thanks to the emphasis on macroeconomic stability in the last several years, the Indian economy faces the year ahead with confidence while being mindful of the risks, the survey emphasised. "The last three years have seen the global economy endure a health crisis and a debilitating (ongoing) conflict in Europe. Governments and central banks of advanced and emerging market economies responded to the consequent economic challenges, first with stimulus and later with restrictive policies," the document pointed out. The rise in economic uncertainties is reflected in the unevenness of performance of the global economy in 2022, it noted. "During the fourth quarter of 2022-23, various high-frequency indicators (HFIs) pointed towards a slowdown in general, as monetary tightening appeared to have started weakening global demand. This may continue in 2023 as various agencies have forecasted a decline in global growth. Apart from the lagged impact of monetary tightening, the uncertainties emanating from the lingering pandemic and relentless conflict in Europe may further dampen global growth," the survey observed. However, it added that "Even as global output is expected to slow, the IMF and the <keyword id="6354424" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="world-bank" source="Orion">World Bank</keyword> project <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> to be the fastest-growing major economy in 2023". Indian economy to grow at 7% in FY23  global headwinds, says Finance Ministry

However, the ministry is not in a hurry to reopen schools at present. According to senior officials of the ministry, at present, preparations are being made to conduct the remaining board exams of class 10 and 12 between July 1 and 15. After the examinations, the first priority is to declare the results. Only then can the process of reopening school colleges begin.

"Some people, by mistake, are talking about plastic-free India. I have not said this. I have said that single-use plastic, which comes to use only once, causes a lot of problems," explained Modi.
