The Reserve Bank on Thursday proposed to create a <keyword id="22711172" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-repository" source="keywords">public repository</keyword> of <keyword id="21305551" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="digital-lending-apps" source="keywords">digital lending apps</keyword> in a bid to address the problems arising from mushrooming <keyword id="22711171" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="unauthorised-players" source="keywords">unauthorised players</keyword> in the segment. In another significant move, the central bank proposed to introduce a facility of "<keyword id="22710839" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delegated-Payments" source="keywords">Delegated Payments</keyword>" in UPI to enable an individual to allow another individual to make <keyword id="19957378" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPI-transactions" source="keywords">UPI transactions</keyword>. In a <keyword id="13144094" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="post-monetary-policy-review" source="Orion">post-monetary policy review</keyword> address, <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword> <keyword id="20595794" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Governor-Shaktikanta-Das" source="keywords">Governor Shaktikanta Das</keyword> said the central bank has taken several measures for the orderly development of the <keyword id="12577431" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-lending-ecosystem" source="Orion">digital lending ecosystem</keyword> in India. In a bid to address the problems arising from unauthorised digital lending apps (DLAs), he said the RBI proposes to create a public repository of DLAs deployed by its regulated entities. "The regulated entities (REs) will report and update information about their DLAs in this repository. This measure will help the consumers to identify the unauthorised lending apps," Das said. On introduction of 'Delegated Payments' through UPI, the Governor said the facility would enable an individual (primary user) to allow another individual (secondary user) to make UPI transactions up to a limit from the primary user's bank account without the need for the secondary user to have a separate bank account linked to UPI. This, he added, will further deepen the reach and usage of digital payments. The central bank also announced an increase in the transaction limit for tax payments through UPI to Rs 5 lakh. Currently, the transaction limit for UPI is Rs 1 lakh, except for certain categories of payments which have higher transaction limits. "It has now been decided to enhance the limit for tax payments through UPI from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per transaction. This will further ease tax payments by consumers through UPI," Das said. The Governor also announced measures to speed up cheque payment which will benefit both the payer and the payee. At present, cheque clearing through Cheque Truncation System (CTS), operates in a batch-processing mode and has a clearing cycle of up to two working days. "It is proposed to reduce the clearing cycle by introducing continuous clearing with 'on-realisation-settlement' in CTS," Das said. This means that cheques will be cleared within a few hours on the day of presentation.

RBI to set up public repository of digital lending apps to check unauthorised players

The company has taken the step of removing players who did not follow the rules and used unfair means to manipulate gameplay results in their favour. Using multiple accounts by the same user to access the platform, uploading fake or doctored <keyword id="167905" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kyc" source="Orion">KYC</keyword> documents, using unauthorised payment methods such as stolen cards, and cheating during gameplay by using any hacks or collusion techniques are some of the key reasons why user accounts were blocked. "This move is aligned to our player-first approach and also highlights MPL's zero tolerance towards users who resort to illegal practices in order to alter gameplay results and gain an unfair advantage. With initiatives like this, MPL is poised to continue being a safe and user-friendly platform that is trusted by the users," <keyword id="14920745" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ruchir-patwa" source="Orion">Ruchir Patwa</keyword>, VP of Security and Compliance, MPL, said in a statement. Gaming platform MPL bans over 1 million user accounts

British spies abused their powers to send people birthday cards

Packages floated over the heavily-militarised border by balloon also contained 1,000 United States one dollar bills and DVDs detailing human rights abuses in the North.
"There is clearly enormous hunger for outside information in North Korea," said Thor Halvorssen, president of the US-based Human Rights Foundation, which supported the event in the border town of Paju.
"USB keys are one of the most powerful tools, because they're small, can be hidden and shared easily, and carry massive amounts of data," he said.
Each of the 1,500 USB flash drives launched on Wednesday had been loaded with the Korean-language version of the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia.
The 500,000 anti-North leaflets in the packages were also accompanied by around 50 tiny transistor radios.
While North Koreans live in what is probably the most isolated and censored society on the planet, ranking last in any media freedom survey, the country is not a complete IT desert.
Cell phones were introduced through a joint venture with the Egyptian telecom firm Orascom in 2008, the same year the state launched a domestic intranet, and some government bodies have their own websites.
And for all the regime's efforts, the information barrier erected around North Korea has, in recent years, begun to lose some of its prophylactic power.
Smuggled mobile phones from China allow people near the border to connect with Chinese servers and make international calls, while re-wired TVs and radios allow access to outside broadcasting.
Unauthorised DVDs, MP3 players and USB memory sticks have also been used to bring in everything from news reports to South Korean TV dramas.
Wednesday's balloon launch was organised by a North Korean defector group that is particularly vocal in its criticisms of Pyongyang.
"This is aimed at letting North Korean people know about (leader) Kim Jong-Un's brutality... and deliver a message to North Koreans that now is time for them to rise up and finish the dictatorship," said the group's leader Park Sang-Hak.
South Korean police have enforced bans on similar launches in the past, citing concerns from local residents about possible North Korean retaliation.

South Korean Activists Use Balloons To Launch Leaflets And USB Drives Into North Korea

San Francisco/New Delhi, Taking India's example of banning more than 200 Chinese <keyword id="6354741" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apps">apps</keyword>, US President <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword> has signed a new executive order that blocks transactions with Chinese companies running eight apps, including Jack Ma-owned Ant Group's Alipay, Tencent's QQ and <keyword id="1160904" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WeChat">WeChat</keyword> Pay <keyword id="6371395" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="applications">applications</keyword>. Transactions will be prohibited in 45 days, said the order. Other apps include CamScanner, QQ Wallet, SHAREit, Tencent QQ, VMate, WeChat Pay, and <keyword id="2763436" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="wps-office">WPS Office</keyword> -- which are already banned in India. "The Government of India has banned the use of more than 200 Chinese connected software applications throughout the country; in a statement, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology asserted that the applications were stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users' data in an unauthorised manner to servers which have locations outside India," <keyword id="6354862" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="trump">Trump</keyword> wrote in his new executive order. The new executive order follows two earlier ones from Trump in August last year where he tried to ban transactions with <keyword id="3749909" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bytedance">ByteDance</keyword>, TikTok's parent company, and WeChat. However, a judge blocked the WeChat ban in September and in October, a judge granted a preliminary injunction stopping the TikTok ban in December. "The pace and pervasiveness of the spread in the United States of certain connected mobile and desktop applications and other software developed or controlled by persons in the People's Republic of China, to include Hong Kong and Macau (China), continue to threaten the <keyword id="113687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-security">national security</keyword>, foreign policy, and economy of the United States," the executive order further read. "The US must take aggressive action against those who develop or control Chinese connected software applications to protect our national security." The Trump order said that "the continuing activity of the PRC and the CCP to steal or otherwise obtain United States persons' data makes clear that there is an intent to use bulk data collection to advance China's economic and national security agenda". On June 29 last year, the government banned 59 Chinese apps in the first lot, including TikTok, WeChat, UC Browser and Xiaomi's Mi Community, over national security concerns amid the border tussle in Eastern Ladakh which led to the death of 20 Indian soldiers in a bloody clash with Chinese PLA troops in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. Other Chinese apps in the banned list were Club Factory, SHAREit, Likee, Mi Video Call (Xiaomi), Weibo, Baidu, BIGO LIVE and more. In July, the government barred 47 Chinese apps from operating in the country, which were largely clones of the 59 apps that were banned in June. The Indian government on September 2 banned 118 apps on national security concerns, including the immensely popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile, Baidu and couple of virtual private networks that allowed access to TikTok that was banned earlier. Continuing with its ban orders on Chinese apps, the Indian government in November blocked 43 new mobile apps, including shopping website AliExpress owned by e-commerce behemoth Alibaba. After India, US President Donald Trump blocks eight Chinese apps including Alipay, WeChat Pay and Tencent's QQ

Either way, once an account is breached — it’s nothing but pure profit for hacker thereon in. Where are these attacks coming from? Most of the web attacks on gaming come from the US, Russia and China. The hacker doesn’t try and breach the application that runs the game but the website of the gaming companies.

Once an account is compromised, it’s only a matter of hours before it’s sold off or traded. More gaming accounts to be hacked in the foreseeable future Attacks which are focused on stealing financial information are only going to increase in the foreseeable future. Out of 55 billion credential stuffing attacks over a 17-month period, 12 billion were aimed at gaming accounts. Credit stuffing attacks are when account credentials are stolen — usually in the form of usernames or emails — along with their corresponding passwords. These credentials are used to gain unauthorised access to user accounts through automated login requests. “For now, attackers see credential abuse as a low-risk venture with potential for a high payout, and these types of attacks are likely to increase for the foreseeable future,” said Akamai’s report on <a href="https://www.akamai.com/us/en/multimedia/documents/state-of-the-internet/soti-security-web-attacks-and-gaming-abuse-report-2019.pdf">Web Attacks and Gaming Abuse.</a> It’s not just that the gaming industry is easy to break into, it’s also growing rapidly. The video games market could hit $300 billion by 2025, according to a report by <a href="https://www.globaldata.com/store/report/gdtmt-tr-s212--video-games-thematic-research/">GlobalData</a>. Companies are adding more features into their games like cosmetic enhancements and special weapons to reel in users. “Criminals are essentially creating mini-botnets that exist solely to focus on validating massive lists of login credentials,” said the report. So stop recycling your passwords It’s the primary reason why credential stuff attacks work in the first place. This includes using your Facebook or Google account to log-in to third-party applications. “The common factor in each successful attack is a shared password or a password that is easily guessed,” the report added. A data breach of a gaming website, retail platform or anything account that you don’t think is important — can easily transform into a compromised bank account if you’re using the same password for everything. Online gamers and shoppers beware — you’re the biggest target for hackers after financial services

<ul><li><keyword id="6354776" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telecom">Telecom</keyword> advocacy group Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has reiterated the concern regarding illegal import, sale and use of signal boosters. </li><li>The <keyword id="62528" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Department-of-Telecom">Department of Telecom</keyword> has released several warnings in the matter between 2016 and 2019. </li><li>Signal boosters and repeaters are associated with the degradation of <keyword id="10986122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobile-signals">mobile signals</keyword> and a decrease in overall service quality.</li></ul>The telecom advocacy group, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/retail/e-commerce/news/amazon-alibaba-flipkart-snapdeal-and-others-get-an-angry-letter-from-indias-telecom-regulator/articleshow/82118919.cms">written to the Department of Telecom</a> (<keyword id="16054" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="DoT">DoT</keyword>) reminding them to act on the concern around the illegal sale of mobile signal boosters. These signal boosters and repeaters are said to cause interference with signals from towers impacting the overall cellular network quality. A signal booster is essentially a device that amplifies the mobile phone signal strength within its vicinity. It is used in areas where there is weak or inconsistent signal strength. DoT has released multiple warnings to e-commerce sellers to stop the sale of said items. In a letter to all e-commerce companies on May 1, 2019, DoT had said that e-commerce firms are facilitating and acting as a party to the illegal sale of unauthorised mobile signal boosters. This letter was addressed to <keyword id="18635" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, Flipkart, Indiamart, Alibaba, Aliexpress, eBay, Snapdeal, Shopclues and Rediff. Similar warnings were issued in 2016 as well. What makes signal boosters illegal? These signal boosters, which are not registered, are categorised as illegal because they use a spectrum they haven't paid for. It interferes with the airwaves making it capable of distorting mobile signal for other customers in the vicinity of the booster. These devices are the main reasons for network issues like call drops and low data speeds. They also make mobile handsets transmit higher power, to manage connectivity with the site leading to even higher battery consumption and poor network. The illegal use of such devices leads to the degradation of telecom services instead of solving signal issues. In simple words, using mobile signal boosters is like having illegal electricity or water supply connection from the main supply, which leads to improper distribution for others who are paying for the service. What does the law say? The DoT has been saying that the seller for the wireless equipment needed to have a Dealer Possession License (DPL) under the provisions of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933. According to the Act, no person shall possess wireless telegraphy apparatus except under and in accordance with a licence issued under the Act. In case someone wants to purchase such a device, the customer needs to get a ‘frequency authorisation/agreement in principle letter’ from DoT and then get the wireless operating licence for the same after submitting required papers and spectrum charges. Additionally, in case a wireless device is needed to be imported to India, the importer needs an import licence as per customs rules from regional licensing offices of the telecom ministry after completing the initial process of submitting documents and fees. Apart from putting a regulation in place, the crackdown on such devices will improve the quality of the services and also allow the telcos to obtain a fee against the <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/business/trai-issues-spectrum-usage-charges-sop/cid/1789412">spectrum charges</a> they pay to the DoT. The concerned authorities like DoT and the telecom ministry will also make their share of the revenue from the registration and licence fee. Biggest e-commerce players not complying The scuffle between DoT and e-commerce companies has been going on for a while. Soon after the first letter was written to the e-commerce companies in 2019, Flipkart and Snapdeal accepted the request to remove the signal booster devices from their platforms. However, Amazon says it's a marketplace and shouldn't be held responsible to comply with laws applicable to products.
