After a report claimed that edtech major <keyword id="6630114" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="unacademy" source="Orion">Unacademy</keyword> has laid off employees from its job hiring platform <keyword id="12215842" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="relevel" source="Orion">Relevel</keyword>, the company's Founder and CEO <keyword id="1727930" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gaurav-munjal" source="Orion">Gaurav Munjal</keyword> said on Wednesday that there were no layoffs. "No layoffs. We have moved some team members to other Businesses of the Group though. Team worked really really hard to ensure that we find a role for everyone," <keyword id="6320" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="munjal" source="Orion">Munjal</keyword> tweeted. A user replied: "That's nice Gaurav. Nice to read this. Compassion towards employees and fitting them in other divisions". MoneyControl first reported that Relevel "halved its team to 700 employees" amid the economic meltdown. Relevel was launched in 2021 by <keyword id="3886063" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shashank-murali" source="Orion">Shashank Murali</keyword>, Saksham Keshri and Prakash Kumar, on the back of strong traction witnessed in user growth, hiring company partnerships, and placement rate. Last year, Relevel raised $20 million from its parent edtech company Unacademy. In April, Unacademy laid off nearly 600 employees, contractual workers and educators, about 10 per cent of its 6,000-strong workforce across the group. As the funding winter hit edtech startups and unicorns in India, Unacademy founders and management took pay cuts. In an internal email last month, Munjal said that even though the company has more than Rs 2,800 crore in the bank, "we are not efficient at all". "We spend crores on travel for employees and educators. Sometimes it's needed, sometimes it's not. "There are a lot of unnecessary expenses that we do. We must cut all these expenses. We have a strong core business. We must turn profitable asap," the email read. "We will be shutting down certain businesses that have failed to find the product market fit (PMF) like the <keyword id="14425744" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="global-test-prep" source="Orion">Global Test Prep</keyword>," he told the employees. Unacademy last month said that a small fraction of its workforce (2.6 per cent) has been asked to go as part of a performance improvement programme (PIP). Simplilearn now has over 100 job openings for permanent roles and 500 vacancies for specialised or gig roles. “At Simplilearn, we witnessed a 30% jump in enrollments between March and April, 2020. While hiring was always part of the plan, the current phase has also triggered the need for more manpower to cater to this rising demand,” Kumar told Business Insider. However, as far as appraisals are concerned, Kumar said that the company is in a ‘wait and watch’ mode. “But all bonuses and variables are paid as per plan,” he added. Masai School is also planning to add nearly 20 people by the end of June. This includes Lead instructors, curriculum leads, technical mentors, marketing manager, admissions counselor and subject matter experts. “In addition to this, we have also rolled out appraisals to the existing team, for the year,” said Prateek Shukla, CEO &amp; Co-founder of Masai School. The demand for educators increase as the learner base grows Whitehat Jr, on the other hand, is doubling the number of employees and teachers to meet the 100% month-on-month increase in student enrollments. At the same time we are also scaling up on the sales team to cater to the demand of online classes which were provided by offline institutes in the past. Edtech startup Simplilearn bucks the trend — to hire 800 people this year

In some cheer for those who have lost jobs in the ongoing funding winter and global macro-economic conditions, most laid-off tech employees have landed new jobs within three months of starting their search. The <keyword id="6384660" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wall-street-journal" source="Orion">Wall Street Journal</keyword> reported, citing a <keyword id="3345871" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ziprecruiter" source="Orion">ZipRecruiter</keyword> survey, that nearly 79 per cent of terminated staff in the tech industry landed a new job within three months. It, whoever, did not divulge information on whether they got new jobs on the same, above or lower pay packages as the industry is reeling under several pessimistic factors, which will continue in 2023. Nearly four in 10 previously laid-off tech workers found jobs less than a month after they began searching, the survey found. "Despite the widespread layoffs, hiring freezes, and cost-cutting taking place in tech, many tech workers are finding reemployment remarkably quickly," <keyword id="12666243" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="julia-pollak" source="Orion">Julia Pollak</keyword>, chief economist at ZipRecruiter, was quoted as saying. Workers employed in other industries, like entertainment and leisure, transportation and delivery and manufacturing, also found new jobs quickly, the data showed. Google, Amazon and some other tech companies are set to lay off more workers in early 2023. The ZipRecruiter data also showed that about 5 per cent of laid-off tech workers who found jobs from April to October had spent more than six months hunting for work, down from 26 per cent of those hired between August 2021 and February 2022. Thousands lost jobs amid deepening funding winter in 2022 as massive layoffs by the tech companies this year alone surpassed the levels from the Great Recession the world went through in 2008-2009 that began with the <keyword id="50209" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lehman-brothers" source="Orion">Lehman Brothers</keyword> collapse. More than 91,000 workers in the US tech sector were laid off in mass job cuts in 2022, according to a Crunchbase tally.
