Bhaker finished third to secure a bronze medal in the final of the Women's Air Pistol event on Sunday. She became the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympics. Following her win, Mandaviya told ANI, "By winning the first bronze medal in the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker has made India proud. He also expressed confidence that other athletes will also do well in the Olympics. "Around Rs 2 crore was spent on Manu Bhaker's training. She was sent to Germany and Switzerland for training. Financial help was provided which was needed for her to hire a coach who she wanted. We are providing this ecosystem to all athletes so that they give best performance at national and international competitions. I am confident that our athletes will perform well in Paris Olympics too," he added. On the shooting and archery competitions taking place today, Manaviya added, "Shooting and Archery competitions are taking place today. Also, the men's archery team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav will be taking on Turkiye or Colombia in the quarterfinals at 6:31 PM. The medal rounds of this category will take place today itself. Bhaker brought India's first medal in the ongoing mega event as she won a bronze medal with a score of 221.7. It was a redemption arc for Manu after her pistol malfunctioned at the Tokyo Olympics. She made history by becoming the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach a shooting final in an individual event of the Olympics since Suma Shirur in 2004. South Korea's Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points. Her compatriot, Kim Yeji, settled for silver with 241.3 points.

Govt spent two crores on training Manu Bhaker, says Sports Minister Mandaviya after her Olympic bronze win

New Delhi, Feb 5 () NIIT, a global leader in skills and talent development, on Wednesday reported 40 per cent jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 27.1 crore for December quarter 2019-20 on account of increase in demand from corporate sector. The company had garnered a profit of Rs 19.4 crore in the same period a year ago."During the quarter, NIIT delivered strong Profit After Tax of Rs 27.1 crore, up 40 per cent year-on-year on the back of strong growth of 17 per cent year-on-year in corporate learning group (CLG). We started Canada business two years back which has started delivering now," NIIT Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay K Thadani told .Overseas market led by the US and Europe contributed 77 per cent of the total corporate learning group business, Thadani said. NIIT recorded 10 per cent growth in its consolidated revenue to Rs 247.6 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 225.5 crore in the year-ago period. CLG recorded net revenue of Rs 189.5 crore. Thadani said the company is planning to build more training capacities for the technology vertical especially in areas like augmented and virtual reality. During the quarter, the company completed buyback of 2.68 crore equity shares after approval from the shareholders of the company at Rs 125 per share, representing approximately 16 per cent of the total paid up equity share capital for an aggregate amount of Rs 335 crore, exclusive of taxes. NIIT Q3 profit rises 40 pc to Rs 27 cr

The government has set a target to create employment opportunities to one crore youth by 2020 through a skill development scheme under the Pradhan Mantri <keyword id="1438023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kaushal-Vikas-Yojana">Kaushal Vikas Yojana</keyword> (PMKVY), Union Minister of <keyword id="4092809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-for-labour-and-employment-bandaru-dattatreya">State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya</keyword> told an agency. 
 "The Union Government will be establishing skill development centres across the country with an amount of Rs 12,000 crore to create employment opportunities to 1 crore youth by 2020," said <keyword id="-1236" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="dattatreya">Dattatreya</keyword> after inaugurating a two-day 'Job Mela' here. 
 The minister said, "To increase employment avenues for job seekers, The <keyword id="180102" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Labour-and-Employment">Ministry of Labour and Employment</keyword> is establishing Model Career Centres (<keyword id="50535" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MCC">MCC</keyword>) across the country. There are 950 employment exchanges in the country, out of these 100 centres will be developed as model centres at the cost of Rs 350 crore." 
 
The minister also said that the Union Government has decided to open 100 driver training institutes across the country and one of them will be setup here. 
 "The Union Government has already sanctioned Rs 170 crore for skill development centres in <keyword id="68884" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword> state. 
 
The model career centre will provide counselling and assessment, soft skills training, technical upskilling and placement to students, he added.

NAGPUR: Electricity produced is electricity saved for Nagpur division of Central Railway! After reducing its consumption, the division is now regenerating power to reduce its bills sizably. 
 "Due to austerity measures while driving, and technical innovation with the use of new version of three-phase electric locomotives, Central Railway managed to regenerate over two crore units and saved Rs 16 crore during 2013-2014," said <keyword id="6605234" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Divisional-railway-manager">divisional railway manager</keyword> (DRM) OP Singh. While mail/express trains regenerated 18-20% power, freight trains did 17-18%, he added. 
 
The two crore units saved by the Nagpur Central Railway can light up over 20,000 homes if one household's consumption is considered 100 unit power. Specifically, the railways generate electricity at a couple of substations, where there are slopes on the tracks and three-phase locos consume no power and start generating it. The railways saved 2% electricity (10 lakh units) at Katol substation and 1.5% (6.50 lakh units) at Pandhurna. 
 "The three-phase locos have been on the tracks for the past three years but railways learnt about the power regeneration by them only in June last, when it launched <keyword id="6360192" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Energy-conservation">energy conservation</keyword> drive. Energy conservation year was observed in true sense by the division last year, reaping dividends," said Namdeo Rabade, senior divisional electric engineer (SrDEE) for traction distribution (TRD). 
 
After launching stringent power saving measures, energy consumption during 2013-14 was reduced by 33.358 million units, even though gross tonne kilometre (GTKM) increased by 2.78% (1 tonne load for 1km equals to 1GTKM). 
 Similarly, Rabade said the average specific energy consumption (SEC) reduced from 7.98% in 2012-13 to 7.42% in 2013-14. Cumulative <keyword id="25450" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="savings">savings</keyword> of nearly Rs 7.74 crore was achieved, despite the fact that power tariff increased by 4.24%. Otherwise, Central Railway could have saved Rs 24.83 crore. 
 
Though the units regenerated have not been physically put to use for alternative purposes, it will surely save money towards power bills. Last year, the Nagpur Central Railway paid Rs 421 crore towards 543 million units.

In the last five years, the government is looking forward to chip in with Rs 1 lakh crore and raise more money from states and the Central Road Fund which is used to build railway overbridges and out of that Rs 1.27 lakh crore, which is less than 15% of the plan, is to go towards safety. 
 
Railways are also accused of being slow and unsafe. Some of the machinery and bridges dates back to the British era. 
 
Also a plan to away with guards in goods trains that run on the eastern and western freight corridors through what is called End of Train Telemetry. 
 
"Funds have been a problem but the Railway Research Designs and Standards Organisation has also slowed down adoption of new technology," an official told ET.

Railway safety fund likely to get first installment in Budget 2017

CEO <keyword id="6355315" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="elon-musk" source="Orion">Elon Musk</keyword> teased the paper as "more important than it may seem", reports <keyword id="4676482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electrek" source="Orion">Electrek</keyword>. In the abstract, the automaker is describing a new standard to work with its computing platform. "This standard specifies Tesla arithmetic formats and methods for the new 8-bit and 16-bit binary floating-point arithmetic in computer programming environments for deep learning neural network training," according to the report. "This standard also specifies exception conditions and the status flags thereof. An implementation of a floating-point system conforming to this standard may be realized entirely in software, entirely in hardware, or in any combination of software and hardware," it added. For years now, Tesla has been teasing the development of a new in-house supercomputer optimised for neural net video training. Tesla is handling an insane amount of video data from its fleet of over 1 million vehicles. It uses this video data to train its neural nets. Over the last two years, <keyword id="364027" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="musk" source="Orion">Musk</keyword> has been teasing the development of Tesla's own supercomputer called "Dojo". Last year, he even teased that Tesla's Dojo would have a capacity of over an exaflop, which is one quintillion (1018) floating-point operations per second or 1,000 petaFLOPS. The automaker already has its Dojo chip and tile, but it is still working on building its full rack to create the supercomputer. Tesla releases white paper on Dojo supercomputing platform

Presenting his third budget, <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword> today announced some key new schemes while presenting the <keyword id="3206186" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Union-Budget-2016">Union Budget 2016</keyword>. Here are the highlights- 
 
AGRICULTURE

	 
	Stating that agriculture and the security of farmers are a chief area of focus for the government, he went ahead to state that under Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers would have to pay a nominal amount of insurance premium and a highest ever compensation in case of crop loss. 
	To ensure this is done, he has allocated Rs 5,500 crores in the Budget. 
	 
	The allocation to Pradhan Mantri’s Gram Sadak Yojna to be increased to Rs 19,000 crore. 
	 Additionally, to give further income security to the very people who ensure our food security, <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance Minister</keyword> Arun Jaitley promised to double the income of farmers by 2022. Thus, an amount of Rs 35,894 crore has been set aside for the welfare of farmers this year. 
	The Pradhanmantri Krishi Sinchaai Yojana is thus strengthened and implemented in mission mode. 
	 
	 
	LPG GAS CONNECTION FOR BPL FAMILIES 
	 
	Jaitley also announced launching another initiative to provide cooking subsidy to BPL families so as to rid them from the adverse effects of chura cooking. 
	 
	He explained that the government would provide a LPG connection to families in the name of the woman members. A sum of Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated to meet the initial cost of providing the LPG connection. According to the Finance Minister, approximately 1,50,00,000 BPL houses. 
	 
	The scheme is expected to continue for more than two years and will cover atleast 5 crore houses. 
	 
	This will not only ensure universal coverage of cooking gas in the country but will also improve women’s health and provide employment in supply chain of the cooking gases for the youth in rural areas. 
	 
	 
	DIGITAL LITERARY SCHEMES 
	 
	As part of the government's increased rural push, Jaitley also launched two new digital literary schemes for rural India. 
	 
	 
	SWACCHH BHARAT ABHIGYAN 
	 
	Additionally, Rs 9000 crore has been allocated for Swacchh Bharat Abhigyan in a bit to put an end to open defecation. 
	 
	 
	HEALTH INSURANCE 
	 
	There’s also the health protection scheme which guarantees a health cover of Rs 1,30,000 for senior citizens. There will be an additional topup of Rs 30,000 per family and 300 generic drug stores to be opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadi Yojana. 
	 
	 
	STANDUP INDIA 
	 As far as Standup India is concerned, Jaitley has allocated Rs 500 crore to ensure <keyword id="107737" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Entrepreneurship">entrepreneurship</keyword> to ST/SCs and women. He wants them to be job-givers and not seekers. Under this, two projects will be promoted ber bank per branch per category. 
	 
	“On the occasion of B.R Ambedkar’s 125th anniversary, we must ensure that this must be the year of <keyword id="352701" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Economic-Development">economic development</keyword> for ST/SCs,” he said. 
	 
	 
	NATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT MISSION 
	 
	Also, under the National Skill Development Mission which has imparted training to 76 lakh youth, 1500 multi skill-training institutes would be set up, Jaitley announced. 
	 
	Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, the aim would be to skill 1 crore youth in the next 3 years.

The cooking subsidy, digital literary scheme is bound to make a statement, so is the push for farmers' welfare in light of the drought and farmer suicides.
