A writer and researcher Machun Wong in a new Tweet revealed insight into how this feature will be helpful. The feature would untag username from a Twitter conversation, preventing people from mentioning it in the conversation again. The user will also not receive notifications from the conversation, but will still have access to it. In the screenshot, there is a popup window that outlines what this feature will do, giving the user the option to choose it or decline it. Meanwhile, Twitter has started rolling out pinned direct messages to everyone on Android, iOS, and the web. Twitter is now rolling out a feature to pin up to six conversations, which will then always appear above your other messages. To pin a conversation on the best Android phones, you just need to press and hold the message you want to save. "Pin Conversation" is expected to appear above other options. On the web, the option will appear via the three-dot menu when you hover over a conversation in your inbox. Twitter is also rolling out its new bot labels that will let bot accounts to include a label to show they are automated. Twitter deletes millions of such spam accounts on a regular basis. With rampant access to social media, the amount of social media trolling and the number of spam accounts are rapidly growing and, therefore, its is important for social media apps like Twitter to take definitive steps to curb it. Preetha Athrey, who is the director at global business marketing for APAC at Twitter tells Business Insider in an exclusive interview that the platform has been working on it constantly.“Our priority is to keep people on the platform safe and this is something we constantly do. We review a lot of content and a lot of reports that come to us,” Athrey said. Twitter has also rolled out various safety features which will safeguard its users against targeted attacks and trolls. “We constantly communicate about the new safety features to our users we have launched. 'Unmention’ to give people more control over their mentions. ‘Unmention’ lets you untag yourself from a conversation, so you can no longer be mentioned in replies. Additionally, people can also control who engages with the conversations they are starting,” Athrey said. Unmention feature was rolled out by the company in July this year and it allow the users to remove themselves from an unwanted conversation in which they don’t wish to be a part of. "Through Conversation Settings, people on the service can choose who can engage with and reply to their Tweets. In March 2021, we also extended Conversation Settings to our brand partners. Through our policies, products, and partnerships, we’re already seeing progress happen, and we’ll continue to invest in brand safety to make Twitter a safer place for all. We understand that ultimately, behind every Tweet is a breathing, thinking, and feeling individual who wrote it, and we are committed to our job to empower them, protect them, and encourage them so they can share that voice freely,” Athrey added. Another feature rolled by the social media app is Safety Mode. By turning on "Safety Mode" in settings, a user can have Twitter scan and it will automatically block interactions from "harmful" accounts for seven days. Accounts that are blocked with this feature will be unable to follow a user, see a user's tweets, or send direct message, albeit only temporarily. Generally, these trolls or negative hashtags are spread by people using fake accounts. And nonetheless, removing these accounts is a part of controlling trolls. Twitter removes one million spam accounts everyday. “We remove millions of spam accounts everyday during the day or shortly after the creation,” Athrey told Business Insider India. Earlier this month, the global executives of the social media platform also highlighted in a <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/international-business/twitter-says-it-removes-1-million-spam-accounts-a-day/articleshow/92738262.cms">briefing</a> that the number of spam accounts represent below 5% of its active user base each quarter. The app also removes a lot of suspected accounts. “ We also block a lot of suspected spam accounts each week if they don’t pass human verification like captcha, phone or email address,” Athrey said. “We use technology and human review in concert and proactively tackle attempts on platform manipulations,” she further added. Chatbots will enhance chat conversations by helping humans with micro-tasks and automatic replies, though it's unlikely that bots will replace humans entirely.-New features like natural language processing are improving chatbots everyday, but engineers are still trying to find ways to make artificial intelligence learn quicker with less data.As more companies come to embrace chat functions to complement or reduce human phone centers, rudimentary human-to-human chat conversations will soon be a thing of the past, according to experts in the field. In the next three to five years alone, chatbots will become nearly ubiquitous, and work seamlessly with human customer support agents to provide customers with efficient, personalized responses. Though chatbots have been around since the release of ELIZA in 1966, vast amounts of data and enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities have pushed the technology into the mainstream commercial space in the last few years, creating a hybrid experience between human customer service agents and bots.Salesforce first launched an SMS chatbot product in 2014, and has since expanded it to include Facebook Messenger. The company also offers a product called Live Agent Chat, which facilitates human-to-human interactions. "Salesforce believes fundamentally that bots are going to be complementing your live staff," said Meredith Flynn-Ripley, vice president of mobile messaging at Salesforce. "We really see bots as changing the job description and turning agents into intelligent problem solvers."Flynn-Ripley described a future in which bots take over in "micro-moment exchanges" to relieve agents from doing tasks that "they don't even like doing." This could be as simple as information gathering, like asking a customer for their name and account number. But it could also look more like a conversational assistant, who gets smarter over time and can provide suggestions based off of data. While the majority of customer service interactions are still over the phone, Flynn-Ripley said that call centers could soon undergo big changes as more companies embrace chat as the most natural way to interact. "We often see the voice calls go down in a matter of weeks, and customer satisfaction go up," Flynn-Ripley said of new customers. For messages that come in through Facebook, Sephora uses Assist, a business messaging platform, to evaluate which customer messages can be dealt with by a bot. If a bot can't respond, the message will be passed along to a human agent using the customer service platform Sprinklr. On the customer side, the bot generates a button which prompts the user to request a human customer service agent. "We have a lot of potential to make that seamless, either by making the process smooth, or by providing humans powers like quick replies," Kemal El Moujahid, the lead product manager for Messenger Platform and M at Facebook, told Business Insider.Like Salesforce, Facebook already has a lot of data about its users. Since artificial intelligence and chatbots are only as smart as the data they have access to, chatbots built on top of Facebook's system will likely have more advanced conversation abilities than chatbots built from scratch. "The promise of chatbots is personalization at scale," El Moujahid said, describing a world in which every company has a chat function which can use artificial intelligence to quickly address customer concerns tailored to the data available about that customer."The most important thing for humans is for their expectations to be managed. As long as it's really clear what the agent is able to do - whether bot or human - then the users are fine with that," El Moujahid said. "You don't need to have a bot that can talk about its holiday with you for you to have resolution for your cable problem."<h2>Outside of the text box </h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">ProgressiveFitzpatrick thinks personality-driven brand mascots like Progressive's Flo could one day automatically handle customer service concerns over Alexa.</div></div></div>Many consumers would rather handle customer service issues by chat than over the phone phone - 56% according to a Nielsen study commissioned by Facebook. But this doesn't mean the future of chatbots is limited to words. While Flynn-Ripley wouldn't reveal much about Salesforce's developing projects, she did suggest that in the next few years chatbots might find a use for something like Salesforce's Einstein Vision - a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) which allow programmers to integrate pre-trained image classifiers, or to train their own image recognition software.It's not hard to imagine a function in which chatbots can read barcodes, or analyze photos to better help customers with their needs. Image recognition is already a common feature with content management systems like Box, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/box-adds-image-recogniation-google-ai-auto-tagging-2017-8">which partnered with Google Cloud Vision</a> to allow users to search untagged images, or automatically sort images by their content. The data and capabilities appear to be there. It just hasn't been widely adopted. Elsewhere in the space, companies like PullString are working on creating more interesting forms of audio chatbots. PullString started creating interactive voice features for children's toys, but it's since expanded to work on software and creative services that power the development of audio-based chat functions for skills on Amazon's Alexa platform. Now, PullString focuses on developing personality-driven characters on Alexa, whose voice and word choice personify the brand as a whole. Michael Fitzpatrick, president of PullString, said that brand identity is key when it comes to digital customer service, and chatbots can provide a level of continuity and brand messaging that live agents can't. "One opportunity, I think, is to spend time designing interactions and model them to reflect truly what the brand's persona is," Fitzpatrick said, mentioning as examples that both Progressive and Geico insurance companies have done well with development of Flo and the Gecko, their respective mascots. After years of TV commercials focused on these characters, it would only seem natural to speak to one of them over Alexa to file an insurance claim or sign up for a new offering, Fitzpatrick said. <h2>Technological barriers </h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="https://twitter.com/TayandYou">Microsoft</a>Things didn't go so well with Microsoft's bot Tay.</div></div></div>Though the adoption of customer service chatbots has increased in recent years, there are still some technological barriers that need to be overcome before the technology is as seamless and helpful as its engineers dream it could be."The biggest hurdle at the moment is data," Fitzpatrick said. "I think that's true of artificial intelligence more broadly."Fitzpatrick said that while there is a lot of data out there, it's not always applied in the best manner. Twitter-trained artificial intelligence like Tay, Microsoft's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-apologizes-for-tay-twitter-meltdown-2016-3">notorious xenophobic chatbot</a>, highlight the need for smarter systems which can tell the different between good and bad inputs. El Moujahid agreed that data is at front of mind, saying that the biggest limitation right now is the speed at which artificial intelligence can process data, and how much data it requires to accurately train a bot."Right now there's a lot of potential with the existing technology," El Moujahid said. "NLP is still in its early days, so we're seeing really interesting stories from around making it faster with less data. There's a notion that those algorithms are powerful but require a large amount of data to train." Once these hurdles are overcome, however, chatbots could have a much bigger role in our day-to-day lives than they do now. El Moujahid said that it's not hard to imagine a world in which individuals have their own personal assistant-style bots to help with mundane tasks, like calling the cable company."There's no reason to imagine at some point you won't have your assistant interacting with the brand's bot," El Moujahid said.

How chatbots could change customer service over the next 5 years

<div class="image-container float_right" style="width:400px"><div class="image"></div>Adam Ludwin</div>Adam Ludwin sees a lot of startups as a principal at RRE, a venture capital firm that's invested in companies like Moda Operandi, Makerbot, Braintree and Business Insider. 
As such, he sees broad trends in entrepreneurship; he knows what every founder is working on, which spaces are the most crowded, and which types of startups investors are looking to financially back.
Two of the biggest trends right now are: 
<ul>
<li>Social photo and video apps -- Think Viddy, SocialCam, Cinemagram and Snapchat. All emerged as Instagram was getting acquired for $1 billion and Pinterest was receiving a billion-dollar valuation.</li>
<li>Reinventing the iPhone's default apps -- Instagram re-invented the Camera app and found success. Spotify is often used instead of Apple's "Music." Evernote is a good alternative to "Notes," the new Mailbox app is preferred to "Mail" and apps like Sunrise and Fantastical are better than "Calendar."</li>
</ul>
Ludwin founded two companies prior to joining RRE, and now he's trying his hand at another one. He's co-founding an iPhone app with a friend from Los Angeles, Devon Gundry.
And guess what?

<li>It's a social photo app called <a href="https://bitly.com/WbwBij">Albumatic</a></li>
<li>It's trying to smother one of Apple's default apps, "Photos."</li>
</ul>
"I really don't want to like another photo app," I told Ludwin as I looked at the app. He laughed and said, "Neither do I."
But as I stalked recent photos of CrunchFund's MG Siegler on a trip to Cabo with his girlfriend, I found myself warming to <keyword id="1765878" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Albumatic">Albumatic</keyword>.
Albumatic is a social, beautifully-designed alternative to Apple's "Photos," an album app most people forget they have on their iPhones. Ludwin calls Albumatic an "organizational layer" for photos, separating them by event, location, and featured people.
"There were seven or eight of us all taking photos of Devon's new baby," Ludwin explained Albumatic's origins. "All together we had taken 100 photos, but they were all siloed in each others' devices. There are endless places to share photos -- via text message, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter -- but there's no good, social way to bulk combine camera rolls and image galleries."
When you join Albumatic, it helps you find other users on Facebook, in your contact list, or nearby via the iPhone's GPS. From then on, when you and a friend are near each other, you can create and join albums together. 
No invites codes are sent back and forth; friends see albums as you create them through push notifications, and they can either "watch" it if they aren't nearby, or they can join the album if they're witnessing the same event. Like Instagram, people can favorite or comment on photos.

Like Path and Foursquare, each user has a profile page that displays their albums, photos and activity. Here's what it looks like:

Only your friends can watch/subscribe to your albums, so strangers won't be able to creep into them (I was only able to "watch" photos of MG's trip to Cabo because Ludwin is friends with him. I wouldn't have been able to do that on my version of the app).
Albumatic could be good if you want to witness a friend's spring break trip you can't make, or a wedding you weren't invited to. Subscribing to an album is like being there in spirit, and you can watch the event unfold in real-time without having to wait for Facebook uploads after the fact. 
It's also good for weddings you are invited to, where every friend has a camera and is snapping their own shots. Instead of uploading and tagging each camera roll separately on Facebook, you can join forces and see everyone's photos at once on Albumatic.

One problem with Albumatic is, if events are too big (think South by Southwest), it's possible to have too many people join a single album. If a bunch of friends of friends of friends are at a concert or event together, they could all end up joining the same album and contribute thousands of photos that the album creator never cared to see.
Ludwin calls this idea "album hijacking" and admits it could be a problem. He and Gundry have contemplated capping the number of people who can join albums. He says Siegler has already hijacked one of his from a San Francisco trip.

Also, there's no way to remove or "untag" a photo of you once it's in Albumatic, and anyone who's subscribed to the album can see it. Ludwin says the only current solution is to ask the poster to take down the image.

For now, Ludwin will remain at RRE and involved in companies where he's on the board: HowAboutWe, Moda Operandi, Kik Interactive, Paperless Post and VYou. 
RRE will also be investing in Albumatic, although a round of financing hasn't closed yet.
Ludwin realizes photo-sharing is a packed space, but after months of mulling it over and researching Albumatic's competitors, he's confident in his startup. 
When asked why he picked such a crowded space he replied, "Simple: the problem was still unsolved!"
