San Francisco, As <keyword id="6354616" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="twitter" source="Orion">Twitter</keyword> is being rebranded as X, its owner <keyword id="6355315" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="elon-musk" source="Orion">Elon Musk</keyword> on Friday announced that the company will make dark mode default on the platform and "dim will be deleted."<br /><br />On Thursday, Musk said that the platform will soon "only" offer "dark mode" as "it is better in every way."<br /><br />However, in response to a tweet on Friday, Musk said, "A lot of people have asked to keep light mode, so we will, but the default will be dark and dim will be deleted."<br /><br />Many users expressed their thoughts on Musk's decision.<br /><br />While one user requested, "Please don't get rid of dim," another said, "I actually prefer dim over dark mode, it has slightly more dimensionality."<br /><br />When a user posted a picture of Musk entering into the financial app segment with the new X app, Musk replied: "The goal of my companies is simply to be as useful as possible, never to kill the competition."<br /><br />"Competing to serve the people is a good thing," he added.<br /><br />Musk had started hinting at the rebranding of Twitter as X on Sunday with a series of tweets, starting with one that said, "soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds."<br /><br />On Monday, the X logo replaced the Twitter blue bird on the platform's web version.<br /><br />The company also updated its Android app by replacing it with the new logo and name.<br /><br />Musk on Tuesday clarified, "Twitter was acquired by <keyword id="17096157" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="x-corp" source="Orion">X Corp</keyword> both to ensure freedom of speech and as an accelerant for X, the everything app. This is not simply a company renaming itself, but doing the same thing."<br /><br />"The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth-- like birds tweeting-- but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video."<br /><br />He further said that in the coming months, the company will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct the "entire financial world."<br /><br />Earlier this week, workers were seen removing letters from the iconic vertical sign at Twitter's headquarters.<br /><br />However, the work was halted by the police.

How to make Twitter appear in dark mode to reduce battery strain on your computer or mobile device

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="460269" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Blue-light">Blue light</keyword> is a shorter-wavelength colored light found in everything from traditional light bulbs to computer and smartphone screens. </li><li>Blue light is good for your body during the day, but at night blue light can affect your circadian clock and body's ability to produce melatonin, causing mild to more severe health effects. </li><li>Experts say you can reduce the negative effects of blue light by wearing blue light blocking glasses and using screen dimmer or warmer apps, and <keyword id="2054913" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="night-mode">night mode</keyword> on devices. </li></ul><p>It's true that the amount, color, and timing of the light we're exposed to - especially in this era of frequent screen use - affects the complex systems in our bodies. </p><p>But the ominous blue light coming from your computer isn't necessarily the villain it's made out to be. Here's what you should know about how blue light affects you and when you should consider turning down that screen. </p><h2>What to know about blue light, and where you can find it</h2><p>Blue light has more "energy" than other colored lights on the visible spectrum with wavelengths that are also relatively short - about 380-500 nanometers instead of the 700 nanometer-long wavelengths of red light. </p><p>During the day, blue light is good for our bodies. It's one of many wavelengths of visible light that we're exposed to, and we get much of it from the sun. Even the lights one might buy to fight seasonal depression are rich in blue light because, during the daytime, blue light boosts mood, memory, and alertness. </p><p>According to Shadab Rahman, Instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in the Division of Sleep Medicine, blue light is something that people should be getting more of. "Our indoor lighting during the day is way too dim, and so we don't get enough blue light during the day," Rahman said. </p><p>But that same blue light that was fine during the day becomes a problem after-hours. Blue light can be harmful when one is exposed to it in the evening, as the body's response to natural light can become confused. And with our ever-increasing reliance on electronics, blue light happens to be in many of our modern lights and devices.</p><div type="image" title="In bed under the blanket using phone" height="1414" width="1885" msid="82168356" hostid="261"></div><p>Martin Moore-Ede was a Harvard Medical School professor for over 20 years, where he researched the human brain's biological clock. Then he founded Circadian ZircLight, a company that makes timed LED lights for workplaces that are nearly free of blue light at night. He said LEDs that emit blue light frequencies are common because they're cost and energy-efficient. </p><p>"The very first LED chips came out with different colors, but they weren't very good at energy efficiency," he said. "What they found out is once you got down to the shorter wavelengths, particularly down on the blue, you were able to much more efficiently convert electricity into light." </p><p>As a result, we're now overexposed to blue light at night due to LED lighting, which lights our computers, phones, and televisions. But blue light also exists in regular lighting in the home, which Rahman says is too bright for our bodies in the evening. </p><p>"The standard we have evolved over billions of years to is the standard of the sun going up and the sun going down," Rahman told Insider. </p><h2>How blue light affects your health</h2><p>While blue light's presence in our lives is growing - as are concerns about its effects - in general, blue light is not bad for your health. But, again, it's ultimately about when you're exposed to it. </p><p>"That blue is what our eyes and our bodies are hunting for, that tells us it's daytime or nighttime. And if we mess with Mother Nature - if we mess that up - then we get all sorts of medical problems," Moore-Ede said. </p><p>Blue light enters your eyes through the cornea and lens to the retina, where it can act on retinal ganglion cells. These cells are highly sensitive to blue light and serve to regulate our circadian clock - that 24-hour cycle that gives cues to the rest of the body on everything from cell growth to hormones. </p><div type="image" title="Computer migraine" height="1414" width="1885" msid="82168357" hostid="261"></div><p>Anyone who's felt the unpleasant effects of jet lag has experienced an abrupt change in their circadian clock. Blue light at the wrong time essentially recreates this effect - it can lead to a mild case of prolonged jet lag, or worse, according to Moore-Ede. That's because blue light impedes the body's ability to produce melatonin, which plays an outsized role in sleep. </p><p>A reduction in melatonin has also been linked to more severe health problems over time, including liver problems and even breast cancer. These effects, Moore-Ede said, are seen in populations that work night shifts in buildings flooded with overhead blue light, underscoring the value of methods that can reduce exposure to blue light.</p><p>"Disrupting the biological clock in and of itself can cause physiological abnormalities," said Rahman. "Not only tumor progression, but diabetes, depression - everything that is timed in your body." </p><h2>How to reduce adverse effects of blue light</h2><p>The best way to reduce the negative impacts of blue light would be to minimize exposure in the evening hours. Think four to five hours before bedtime, according to Rahman. He also suggests adjusting the brightness and color of lights in the daytime and evening.</p><p>But for those who work late hours or night shifts, this isn't always possible. If you fall into this category, here are a few other ways to reduce exposure to blue light every day. </p><h3><strong>Use brighter daytime lights and dimmer evening lights to avoid blue light side effects</strong></h3><p>According to Rahman, the easiest way to get the circadian clock and other light-linked biological functions on track are to get plenty of bright blue light during the day with bright indoor lighting. At night, you should switch to dimmer, warmer lights. </p><p>Two separate bulbs for night and day are a simple way to fix an overexposure to blue light. You could also opt for timed lights that do this for you if you're willing to spend a little more.</p><p><strong><div type="image" title="Family sleeping in bedroom" height="1500" width="2000" msid="82168358" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><h3><strong>Enable the built-in night mode on devices to stop blue light effects</strong></h3><p>Though not all night modes filter out blue light, most dim the lights behind the screen, which is better than nothing. According to Rahman, you should enable night mode or <keyword id="3600054" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dark-Mode">dark mode</keyword> settings on devices and apps in the hours leading up to bedtime. </p><p>Monitoring your app settings may be especially important after 2020. You just have to make sure you're using them correctly - and in tandem. </p><p>"It's not sufficient to just make your screen warm. You have to make it dim as well," said Rahman. You should also make sure the company backs up its claims with some independent, third-party research. </p><p>Many <keyword id="9264570" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="blue-light-glasses">blue light glasses</keyword> will not go all the way up to the upper ranges of blue light, which is around 500 to 530 nm. That's because the lens will make everything appear orange, Rahman explained. But lenses that can block out wavelengths in the 400s for blue light filtering are a good alternative. Lower than 380 nm is ultraviolet light, which many lenses also block but isn't the same as blue light. </p><p>If you do get blue light glasses, like the BluTech lenses backed by a <a href="https://blutechlenses.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MedScape-Blue-Light-Blocking-Glasses-May-Help.pdf">study</a>, just remember not to wear them during the day. But in early May 2021, Nivine Jay, an actor and model, <a href="https://www.insider.com/ben-affleck-tiktok-raya-nivine-jay-unmatched-dating-app-2021-5">posted an explosive TikTok</a> of a video purportedly sent to her by Ben Affleck after she says she unmatched with the actor on Raya. A few days later, Kate Haralson, a TikToker who is a personal assistant for reality TV stars Spencer and Heidi Pratt, similarly went viral by uploading a <a href="https://www.insider.com/ben-affleck-tiktok-raya-nivine-jay-unmatched-dating-app-2021-5">purported recording of a FaceTime session she said she had with Matthew Perry</a> after matching with him on Raya in May 2020. </p><p>These incidents haven't just happened on Raya. In early June, Twitter user @Stardewlegend <a href="https://twitter.com/stardewlegend/status/1402074868850434048?s=20">posted purported screenshots </a>of "iCarly" actor Jerry Taylor's verified <keyword id="2307576" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="bumble">Bumble</keyword> profile along with a tweet, "I did not expect dating in LA to be like this."</p><p>These videos have made headlines and received millions of views on social <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword>, shattering any assumption of privacy on dating apps. As dating apps adjust to the reality of leaking, the features and innovations they implement may have a broader impact not only on their most high-profile users, but also everyday people looking for the perfect match. </p><p>Insider talked to publicists, dating apps, matchmakers, and influencers to explore how these recent exposures could transform online dating. </p><h2><strong>Celebrity insiders and experts are more involved in their clients' dating lives than they may seem</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Kelly Cutrone standing with microphone" height="1000" width="2000" msid="84554026" hostid="261"></div><p>Kelly Cutrone, the founder of <a href="http://www.peoplesrevolution.com/">People's Revolution</a>, a public relations agency, told Insider that celebrities using dating apps is a "bat---- crazy idea." She said that publicists should generally stay out of their clients' love lives, but that by using dating apps, celebrities were not just opening themselves up to potentially embarrassing scandals, but they were also making themselves vulnerable to people with bad intentions. </p><p><a href="https://www.interforinternational.com/team/">Don Aviv</a>, the president of Interfor International, a security consulting service that works with celebrities, echoed Cultrone's stance and said he advises high-profile people to avoid these apps altogether. He cited concerns over hacks, fraud, and scams, and argued that regardless of how the app advertises itself, online platforms come with too many risks. </p><p>Other experts signaled that they were adjusting to stars seeking love in the digital realm. <a href="https://labreamedia.com/">Howard Bragman</a>, a Hollywood crisis manager, told Insider he believes celebrities are drawn to these platforms because they offer the chance to meet people outside of the entertainment industry. Since stars can't go to bars and nightclubs anonymously like civilians, they may relish the opportunity to find someone from the comfort of their home, he said.</p><p>"Celebrities are actual human beings who have feelings and would like to go out on dates and meet a loved one, so I don't see any reason they should be denied that," he said.</p><p>Bragman said his celebrity clients have told him about their dating app usage, so he's prepared for the media fallout in the event of a leak. <a href="https://www.themomentlab.com/team">Matt Yanofsky</a>, a PR and brand specialist, told Insider that in the past, he and other publicists have assisted with curating clients' dating app profile pictures and interests and that in numerous cases, it's become an extension of their job of managing a client's public image. </p><h2><strong>Influencers and celebrities are moving away from dating apps and using social media to meet people instead </strong></h2><p>Some influencers have found ways to navigate public-facing apps. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/c/KazzyOfficial">Kazzy</a>, a YouTuber with almost 470,000 subscribers, told Insider he refuses to give out his phone number and personal address.</p><p>Similarly, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/gwensinger/?hl=en">Gwen Singer</a>, an Instagram influencer, told Insider that on Bumble and Hinge she goes by an entirely different name, doesn't link to her social media, and uses non-model photographs because of privacy concerns and to see if she can find a genuine connection without the anxiety that people are treating her differently.</p><p>"Let's see if you're really interested in talking to me and getting to know who I am," she said.</p><p>Others are moving away from traditional dating apps entirely.</p><p>Comedian <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ashwinjacob/?utm_medium=copy_link">Ashwin Jacob</a> said he used to prefer Raya when it was more "curated," but that now, with more chats about networking and fears of being secretly recorded, Instagram is becoming the preferred dating app for many of his influencer friends. </p><p>TikToker <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@gene.w.park?lang=en">Gene Park</a>, who has over 460,000 followers, echoed Jacob's sentiment that Raya has started to lose its allure. He said that for many influencers, Instagram's direct messaging platform works as a dating app, although he's dealt with catfishing and scamming attempts on it "multiple times."  He said he hoped ther was "another Raya that comes out soon, that is a lot more exclusive," with a better filtering process. </p><p>According to reporting from <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/27/style/raya-dating-app.html">The New York Times</a>, in 2018 Raya had an 8% acceptance rate and there were 100,000 people still on the waiting list. </p><p>Raya did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.</p><h2>Security concerns on apps are changing the face of online dating</h2><p>Regarding celebrities' concerns over privacy, a Bumble spokesperson highlighted the app's Incognito Mode. Included in Bumble Premium, a subscription service that comes with a myriad of features and costs $32.99 a month, Incognito Mode allows users to only be visible to other users whom they swiped right on. </p><p>While this may make the app feel more exclusive and curated, it doesn't account for user behavior and hypothetically, Incognito matches are able to leak celebrity profiles to social media under the company's current privacy policy. </p><p>Some apps are trying to solve this problem. Founded in late 2020, <a href="https://www.loxclubapp.com/">Lox Club</a>, a members-only dating platform for Jewish people, has drawn some <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/the-lox-club-dating-app">buzz</a> and <a href="https://variety.com/2021/music/news/lil-yachty-bhad-bhabie-jewish-dating-app-1234989140/">celebrity investors</a> like Bhad Bhabie and Lil Yachty. </p><p>According to co-founder Alec Lorraine, there are "around 50,000 people" on the app's waitlist. He cited his Lox Club's security measures, such as suspending users who screenshot too many times, and making it easy for people to contact his app to report abusive behavior. Lorraine told Insider there haven't been instances of leaks and believes that is thanks to the Lox Club's highly selective curation process which maintains its culture of privacy.  </p><p>"If you curate your community from the start, you get people that aren't as willing to leak celebrity profiles," he said. </p><p>Lizz Warner, the founder and CEO of <a href="https://gleamdating.com/">Gleam</a>, a video-chat dating app that is currently only available in Los Angeles and New York City, told Insider that she had discussed the possibility of celebrity leaks with her team of developers. On Gleam, users can only communicate via scheduled video chat dates that solely exist within the app, and later, if there's compatibility, texts.</p><p>According to Warner, since the video chats live on the app and automatically turn off if someone starts a screen recording, it can potentially be helpful for celebrities who are concerned with privacy. She told Insider that in Los Angeles, a number of influencers have already joined. </p><p>Haralson, who leaked the purported video of Matthew Perry, said that while some people accused her of being the catalyst for Perry's split with his then-fiance, which she refutes, others responded positively, telling her she was highlighting the dating dynamic of how "easy it is for young girls to be wooed by these older men with money." </p><p>Multiple sources told Insider that they noticed that celebrities became more drawn to dating apps during the COVID-19 lockdown. As restrictions are lifted, dating will potentially go back offline, with people returning to mingling in dimly lit bars and parties. Insiders reveal how celebrities are responding to recent dating app profile leaks

A number of these stocks are back in full-blown momentum mode. Analysts continue to raise "target prices" which the market treats as news. The bulls explain that traditional valuation metrics no longer apply to certain stocks. The longs are confident that everyone else who holds these stocks understands the dynamic and won't sell either. With holders reluctant to sell, the stocks can only go up - seemingly to infinity and beyond. We have seen this before. EINHORN ON TESLA: 'We expect these bubbles to pop'

(AP Photo/Evan Vucci)" height="3000" width="6000" msid="76540870" hostid="261"></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>President <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword> in recent days shared tweets of Black people being violent and asked why people weren't protesting over it.</li><li>These tweets, coming amid nationwide demonstrations over <keyword id="44060" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Racism">racism</keyword> and police brutality, echoed the rhetoric of white supremacists and appear to be part of a broader strategy from Trump to exploit fear and prejudice as he fights to salvage his vulnerable reelection campaign.</li><li>Trump leaned on racism and xenophobia to garner support during his 2016 campaign, and he's employing a similar approach as the US gets closer to Election Day.</li></ul><p>With his reelection prospects dimming, President Donald Trump has increasingly employed the rhetoric of white supremacists in an effort to rile up his base and increase divisions in the US.</p><p>On Monday night, Trump retweeted a video of a Black man punching a white department-store employee, apparently during rioting in June, <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1275256115710885889">saying</a>: "Looks what's going on here. Where are the protesters? Was this man arrested?"</p><p>Earlier, Trump retweeted a video of a Black man shoving a white woman into the side of a subway car that asked: "Where are the protests for this?" In his tweet on the video, Trump said, "<a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1275255772709031936">So terrible</a>!" The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/06/23/trump-videos-black-violence-protests/">reported</a> that this video appeared to come from a 2019 subway incident, for which the man was arrested.</p><p>These tweets came with the US in the midst of nationwide protests against racism and police brutality, largely spurred by the disturbing death of <keyword id="9295731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="george-floyd">George Floyd</keyword> at the hands of the Minneapolis police. Floyd, a Black man, died following an arrest in which a police officer knelt on his neck for roughly eight minutes.</p><p>Though the protests have zeroed in on systemic racism, they've also served as a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-study-george-floyd-protests-overwhelming-support-biden-2020-6">profound rebuke of Trump</a>, who has made his disdain for the demonstrators abundantly clear. The president referred to the protesters as "<a href="https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1274499324987297793?s=20">thugs</a>" Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during his first rally in months.</p><p>It's a standard tactic of white supremacists to attempt to incite fear based on the false premise that Black people <a href="https://www.splcenter.org/20180614/biggest-lie-white-supremacist-propaganda-playbook-unraveling-truth-about-%E2%80%98black-white-crime">harbor violent hatred</a> of whites. This white-supremacist lie is often employed in an effort to deflect from evidence-based discussions on systemic racism and state-sanctioned violence against people of color.</p><p>In 2015, a <keyword id="1175352" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="white-supremacist">white supremacist</keyword> fatally shot nine Black people in a church in Charleston, South Carolina. The shooter said he wanted to foment a race war. Court testimony said that during the shooting he yelled: "Y'all are raping our white women. Y'all are taking over the world."</p><p>With these inflammatory tweets, Trump borrowed from the ideology and rhetoric of white supremacists, and it's part of a broader, divisive strategy the president appears poised to accelerate as he panics over his grim reelection prospects.</p><p><div type="image" title="george floyd protest nyc" height="1333" width="2000" msid="76540873" hostid="261"></div></p><h2>Trump turns to racism amid backlash over his botched coronavirus response</h2><p>In 2016, Trump also employed a white-supremacist playbook, stoking people's fears and biases in an effort to rally them behind his campaign. Trump began his campaign by <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/10/02/trumps-most-insulting-violent-language-is-often-reserved-immigrants/">referring to Mexican immigrants as rapists, drug dealers, and criminals</a>. Among other blatantly racist and xenophobic moments along the campaign trail, Trump would go on to call for a ban on Muslims entering the US as he simultaneously depicted refugees as terrorists, <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2017/01/trump-immigration-ban-terrorism/514361/">which he continued to do as president</a>.</p><p>Fast-forward to 2020, and Trump is rapidly leaning in to a near-identical approach.</p><p>During his Tulsa rally, Trump referred to <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword> as the "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-kung-flu-coronavirus-covid-19-tulsa-rally-video-2020-6">kung flu</a>," <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-using-racism-against-china-to-distract-from-coronavirus-failures-2020-3">deploying racist stereotypes in his effort to blame the pandemic on China</a> and distract from his own failings in responding to the virus. The president has ignored recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to avoid rhetoric that <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/reducing-stigma.html">stigmatizes certain groups</a>, often referring to COVID-19 as the "Chinese virus" or the "plague from China."</p><p>In <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1220818115354923009?s=20">January</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1225728755248828416?s=20">February</a>, and even <a href="https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/978938860582440960">as late as March</a>, the president was actually praising the Chinese government over its handling of the virus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.</p><p>Trump's tone shifted only after cases began to spread at scale in the US and it became increasingly clear that his administration had failed to adequately prepare for the outbreak. Polling has repeatedly shown that Americans <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/approval-trumps-coronavirus-response-underwater-returns-campaign-trail/story?id=71351241">overwhelmingly disapprove</a> of Trump's handling of the virus.</p><p>As Trump has often done in seeking to avoid responsibility, the president found a scapegoat and portrayed COVID-19 as a "<a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/11/politics/coronavirus-trump-foreign-virus/index.html">foreign virus</a>" that invaded the US from China.</p><p>Asian Americans have <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/05/19/asian-american-discrimination/">faced discrimination</a> that has been blamed in part on Trump's rhetoric.</p><h2>Trump's white-supremacist playbook also borrows from authoritarianism</h2><p><div type="image" title="Trump protest Bible" height="1200" width="1800" msid="76540875" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Experts and historians have warned that Trump's behavior in 2020 has increasingly <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-response-coronavirus-mimics-authoritarian-regimes-2020-2">mirrored that of authoritarians</a> and seems likely <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-teargas-photo-op-was-frightening-to-authoritarianism-experts-2020-6">to go further down that path if he is left unchallenged</a>.</p><p>"What we are seeing now is a disturbing preview of what will likely be worse in the months ahead," Brian Klaas, a political scientist at the University College London, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-absent-leader-during-national-crisis-hides-in-bunker-tweets-2020-6?fbclid=IwAR3gPUwN_Qg7JSd96_YkZYVNvXV2Ud0tPj4Ct3ebTEI-r5ujIGgW1-4g1C0">told Insider</a> earlier this month. "He is clearly going to run a scorched-earth election campaign laced with lies, conspiracy theories, racial division, and even incitement of violence."</p><p>Last Thursday, Facebook took down dozens of ads put up by Trump's reelection campaign that included a symbol once used by the Nazis to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/18/us/politics/facebook-trump-ads-antifa-red-triangle.html">classify or identify political prisoners in concentration camps</a>.</p><p>The ads were part of Trump's efforts to blame isolated instances of violence at recent protests on antifa, a loosely affiliated group of left-wing anti-fascist activists. But <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-republican-allegations-antifa-protest-violence-disinformation-campaign-2020-6">there's little evidence to support this</a>. At the same time, Trump has praised law enforcement for <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-heading-to-dallas-for-conversation-on-race-relations-and-policing/2020/06/11/45b3eb90-abed-11ea-a9d9-a81c1a491c52_story.html">violent crackdowns on protesters</a>.</p><p>Facebook and Twitter also within the past week removed a doctored <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/live-updates-protests-for-racial-justice/2020/06/19/880805065/twitter-flags-video-shared-by-trump-as-manipulated-media">"racist baby" video</a> shared by Trump after a copyright complaint from the parents of one of the children in the clip. The doctored video made light of racism and depicted a Black baby and a white baby running down a sidewalk with a fake CNN chyron: "Terrified toddler runs from racist baby."</p><p>And in the midst of the nationwide conversation on racism, Trump has positioned himself firmly against those who wish to see monuments to the Confederacy removed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-congress-headed-to-fight-over-confederate-military-base-names-2020-6">or renamed</a>.</p><p>Indeed, a president who has repeatedly proclaimed his disgust for losers and accused opponents of treason has recently expressed fervent support for continuing to memorialize a defeated, treasonous army that fought to perpetuate slavery. Along these lines, at his rally in Tulsa on Saturday, Trump spoke of the need to "save your heritage," echoing the language of neo-Nazis who often discuss the need to fight to preserve their "<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/white-nationalist-leads-torch-bearing-protesters-against-removal-confederate-statue-n759266">white heritage</a>."</p><h2>None of Trump's behavior is coincidental</h2><p>Trump's reelection campaign is in trouble. Multiple recent polls have shown former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-biden-widens-lead-over-trump-republicans-enthusiastic-but-fear-motivates-dems">with a double-digit lead over Trump</a>. The former vice president has also seen a huge uptick in financial support in recent weeks, and is <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/21/takeaways-biden-trump-may-fundraising-331010">catching up on the president</a> in terms of fundraising.</p><p>Between his botched response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to more than 120,000 confirmed fatalities in the US, and the nationwide protests over racism that have morphed into an anti-Trump movement, the president's approval numbers have also tanked in recent weeks. The most recent Gallup polling put Trump's approval rating at an abysmal <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/203207/trump-job-approval-weekly.aspx">39%</a>.</p><p>The president was also said to be <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/trump-furious-underwhelming-crowd-tulsa-rally-n1231674">shocked and enraged</a> over turnout at his Tulsa rally. Roughly 6,200 people showed up to a stadium that can hold a little over 19,000.</p><p>Trump is in panic mode, and when fear sets in he resorts to what he knows best: demagoguery. It's an approach that worked for Trump in the past and is reminiscent of the "<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/07/26/what-we-get-wrong-about-southern-strategy/">Southern strategy</a>," which worked well for President Richard Nixon. But given the watershed moment the US is experiencing, this game plan could now backfire on Trump.</p><p>More Americans than ever say that <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/05/us/politics/polling-george-floyd-protests-racism.html">racism is pervasive in their country</a>. The <keyword id="2771111" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="black-lives-matter">Black Lives Matter</keyword> movement is now mainstream, and Trump is swimming against the current of history. But all of this also might make Trump more aggressive than ever as he fights for political survival. The past few weeks have most likely been only a sample of the ugliness to come as the US gets closer to Election Day.</p>

Trump is increasingly relying on white-supremacist ploys to fire up his base as he panics over his reelection chances

<p>There's one thing everyone hates about their <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> — <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-iphone-needs-better-battery-life-2013-4">the battery life</a>.</p>
<p>No matter how much juice you get from your iPhone, it could always be better.</p>
<p>For some people, low battery life is a career hazard. For others, it's just a pain.</p>
<p>Recently, my boss Henry Blodget <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-make-iphone-battery-last-longer-2013-4">revealed his three tips for getting better battery performance</a>. I figure I'd throw out my tips, too. It involves some sacrifice, but when I'm going to be out all day, it's worth it.</p>
<p>My number one trick for improving my phone's battery life — the "Do Not Disturb" mode.</p>
<p>I get a lot of alerts on my home screen. I have Gmail sending push email, Twitterrific sending Twitter notifications, Foursquare updates, text messages, and lots of other stuff. Each time one of those alerts hits my home screen it lights up, putting a little strain on the battery. It adds up over time and knocks down my phone's battery life.</p>
<p>Other ways to conserve battery:</p>
<ul>
<li>Turn off WiFi when I leave my home, since the phone will be going crazy looking for WiFi.</li>
<li>If I'm on the subway, or away from a signal, flip it to Airplane mode.</li>
<li>Dim the screen's brightness.</li>
<li>And when I'm really on my last gulp of battery, I just don't use the phone. I know this is silly, but if you get a feel for your usage and what's dragging on the battery you can make judgements about how and when to use the phone.</li>
</ul>
<p>If battery life is really important, then you should spend $100 on a Mophie juice pack. I carry one around with me. When the battery drops to 10%, I put the phone in the juice pack, it goes back to 80%. I then take off the Mophie because it's big and bulky.</p>
<p>And short of a Mophie, just carry around an iPhone cord and plug.</p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Now we have Samsung's answer to Apple's iPad Mini: the Galaxy Note 8.0. It's an 8-inch <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> tablet that has a special stylus called the S Pen, just like Samsung's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/galaxy-note-2-review-2012-10">other Note-branded devices</a>. <span>It can also do a lot of things the iPad can't, like run two apps at the same time in a split screen. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">But <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-announced-features-and-specs-2013-3">as good as Samsung's phones are getting</a>, the company has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsungs-next-challenge-make-a-killer-tablet-2013-1">yet to make a tablet</a> that can stack up to what Apple and Google have pulled off so far. The Galaxy Note 8.0 brings Samsung a bit closer, but not nearly close enough. </span></p>
<p>The Galaxy Note 8.0 isn't as attractive or well built as the iPad Mini or Nexus 7, and it's much more expensive. Those two things alone will probably turn off a lot of people, but there's still a lot to like.</p>

<h2>Hardware And Design</h2>
<p>Like all Samsung <keyword id="6354485" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="mobile">mobile</keyword> devices, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is covered in plastic. But unlike the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-hands-photos-2013-3">upcoming Galaxy S 4 phone</a>, which actually feels relatively durable, the Galaxy Note 8.0 feels like a flimsy toy. The white plastic creaks when you grip the device and it's a magnet for dirt and smudges. </p>
<p>From a design perspective, the Galaxy Note 8.0 looks like a giant-sized version of last year's flagship Samsung phone, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-review-2012-6">the Galaxy S III</a>. It even has the same pill-shaped home button flanked by function keys for "menu" and "back."</p>

<p>The display is pretty weak too, at least by today's standards for mobile devices. Its resolution is only slightly better than the iPad Mini's (to be clear, I think the iPad Mini display also stinks), and icons and graphics often look dull and pixelated. Yes, I'm probably just spoiled by the high-resolution displays on devices like the full-sized iPad and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/htc-one-review-2013-4">HTC One</a>, but it seems odd that Samsung would wimp out on the screen, especially when it makes some of the best ones in the industry.</p>
<p>The basic Galaxy Note 8.0 model comes with 16 GB of storage, but you also get a MicroSD card slot that lets you add up to 64 GB. Plus Samsung has a deal with Dropbox that'll give you 50 GB of free storage for two years, which is a great value.</p>
<p>But the best part of the Galaxy Note 8.0 hardware is under the hood. It has a zippy quad-core processor plus 2 GB of RAM, meaning you have plenty of power to run multiple apps at once without choking the device or zapping your battery.</p>
<p>And battery life is great. The tablet barely sips power when switched to standby mode, and it can last several hours under normal use. You can't switch out the battery like you can on Samsung's phones, but you won't need to.</p>
<h2>A Bunch Of Extras</h2>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Samsung loves to pack its devices with feature after feature after feature, and it's the same story with the Note 8.0. There's far more to the tablet's software than I can fit in one review, so I'm going to hit the most important stuff.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The most distinguishing feature is Samsung's "Multi Window," which lets you run two apps at once in a split screen mode. You activate it from the drop-down settings bar in the notifications center. When switched on, a tray of apps that support Multi Window appears on the left side of your screen. Tap to open an app, then tap and drag a second app over to run the two side by side. You can adjust how much screen real estate an app takes up by sliding the divider bar up and down.</span></p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Multi window is easily the best feature on the Note 8.0, especially when you need to copy and paste something between two apps. (On other tablets you have to copy an item, close out of one app, open another, and then paste the item. Annoying.)</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">But there are some drawbacks. Multi Window only works with a handful of apps (about 20) such as Gmail, Chrome, Twitter, Facebook, and a bunch of Samsung's own Android apps. Samsung lets developers tweak their apps to work in split screen mode, but there doesn't seem to be a huge rush for them to do so. Still, the most important apps do support the feature, which is a decent enough start.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">I also don't like how the Multi Window app tray leaves a little nub at the side of your screen, even when you have other apps open. This is supposed to help you slide the tray out, but it becomes more of a distraction than anything. I wish there was a way to make it disappear without having to go back into settings to turn off Multi Window.</span></p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Another feature I like is called Smart Stay, which uses the tablet's front-facing camera to detect when you're looking at the screen and keep it from dimming. If you've ever had a tablet or phone go dark while reading something, you can probably see the value in this. <br /> </span></p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Finally, there's the S Pen, Samsung's special stylus that's been around since the original Galaxy Note phone launched last year. Samsung's note-taking software has handwriting recognition that can convert your notes to plain text so you can easily copy and paste it elsewhere. The pen also lets you hover over the screen to view more options in drop-down Web menus and the tweaked version of the news reading app Flipboard that was specially made for the Note 8.0.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The S Pen is an OK accessory to have, but it's hardly essential to the device. It doesn't feel natural to write with, and it's only real benefit is the ability to hover over menus.</span></p>
<p>Other than those and numerous other extras, the Galaxy Note 8.0 functions like most other Android tablets. You can customize the home screen with widgets and apps, and connect to all your Google services like Gmail, Calendar, and Google Talk. </p>
<p>However, the tablet app selection in Google's Play store is still pretty weak compared to what you find on the iPad. It's getting a little better, but most apps, even popular ones like Twitter and Facebook, are just blown up versions of the smartphone-sized apps. They look pretty awkward on a larger 8-inch screen.</p>
<h2>Now For The Kicker</h2>
<p>The Galaxy Note 8.0 costs $399.99.</p>
<p>That's $70 more than the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ipad-mini-review-2012-11">iPad Mini</a> and $200 more than <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nexus-7-review-2012-7">Google's Nexus 7</a>. It's a pretty absurd assumption that anyone would want to pay a premium for a tablet with a low resolution screen and poorer construction than its closest rivals.</p>
<p>Unless you absolutely must have that stylus or the ability to run two apps at once in a split screen, then there's no good reason to buy the Note 8.0 over your other options. If you want the best smaller tablet, buy the Nexus 7.</p>
