But its valuation raised many eyebrows! Now that a month and a half has gone by since its listing, time is apt to examine if this gamble paid off. Will <keyword id="93460" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="hyundai-india" source="Orion">Hyundai India</keyword> justify its high valuation? Or does the listing highlight broader questions about the overheated valuation dynamics of Indian markets? A record-breaking <keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipo" source="keywords">IPO</keyword> but questions remain Hyundai Motor India’s mega Initial Public Offering (IPO), launched in October 2024, broke records by raising ₹27,870 crore, making it India’s largest-ever IPO. The initial share sale will open for public subscription on November 22 and conclude on November 26. The bidding for anchor investors will open for a day on November 21, the company announced. The city-based company's proposed IPO is a combination of a fresh issue of 3.87 crore equity shares and an Offer For Sale (OFS) component of 52.68 lakh shares by promoters. Currently, promoters hold over 93 per cent stake in Enviro Infra Engineers. At the higher end of the price band, the IPO is valued at ₹650 crore, placing the company's market capitalization at approximately ₹2,600 crore. Proceeds from the fresh issue to the tune of ₹181 crore will be used to meet the working capital requirements, ₹100 crore will be used for payment of debt, ₹30 crore will be infused into the company's subsidiary, EIEL Mathura Infra Engineers, to build 60 million litres per day Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. Besides, a portion will be used for general corporate purposes. Half of the issue size has been reserved for qualified institutional buyers, 35 per cent for retail investors and the remaining 15 per cent for non-institutional investors. Enviro Infra Engineers is engaged in designing, construction, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants and water supply scheme projects for government authorities/bodies. The treatment process installed by the company at most of the STPs is zero liquid discharge-compliant and the treated water can be used for horticulture, washing, refrigeration, and other process industries. Hem Securities is the sole book-running lead manager of the public issue. The equity shares of the company are expected to be listed on the BSE and NSE on November 29. Enviro Infra Engineers IPO to open on Nov 22; eyes ₹650 crore

They could move mac-and-cheese boxes from a distribution center in another part of the country, for example, or adjust plant-production schedules to make more boxes.Increasingly, they can consult Kraft Heinz's Lighthouse, a software platform that uses proprietary algorithms and data from suppliers, factories, and distribution centers to plan for product demand and recommend how to handle supply-chain disruptions along the way.<h2 id="3f8d4226-02a5-4747-b45d-e0c160aa95e2">Investing in supply-chain resiliency</h2>Kraft Heinz, whose more than 200 brands include Lunchables, Kool-Aid, and Jell-O, has been collecting scattered supply chain data from different sources and pooling it together, starting at the farms producing the materials necessary to make condiments and other packaged goods and moving through factories, distribution centers, trucks, and stores."We're not completely autonomous yet," Helen Davis, a senior vice president and head of North America operations, told Business Insider. But the goal is for Kraft Heinz's logistics experts, manufacturing employees, and supply-chain and operations leaders to receive tech-enabled recommendations to meet demand and avoid service disruptions. The north star vision Kraft Heinz is working toward is to create a self-driving, fully autonomous supply chain, says Davis.Swings in product demand are fairly common in food manufacturing because retailers, such as grocery stores, frequently change their order sizes. The hope is that with AI, Kraft Heinz workers can recognize patterns and precisely address these demand fluctuations, boosting sales.For example, demand for pantry items increased sharply during the pandemic as consumers stayed home and stocked up. For years, food manufacturers had a strong enough position to hike prices even beyond what was needed to absorb inflationary costs, boosting their bottom lines. Revenue has softened at many large food companies, including WK Kellogg, General Mills, and Mondelez, as volumes drop as consumers have been pushing back on nearly three years of steady price increases.<h2 id="31e9b3d8-02e3-43e5-8d8b-733b384592e6">Big food companies want to use AI to make their supply chains efficient</h2>The pandemic caused massive supply chain disruptions for food manufacturers, ranging from shutdowns at meat processing plants to sharp jumps in demand for self-stable products, resulting in higher competition for raw ingredients and packaging materials. Following the disarray, Kraft Heinz and its rivals began investing more in their supply-chain technology.Several large packaged-food companies, including<a target="_blank" href="https://www.supplychaindive.com/news/coca-cola-ai-artificial-intelligence-microsoft/714889/"> Coca-Cola</a> and Conagra, have in recent years announced supply-chain projects — many of which involve AI — aimed at boosting efficiency.Last year Kraft Heinz said it <a target="_blank" href="https://www.supplychaindive.com/news/kraft-heinz-leans-on-ai-to-boost-its-supply-chain-performance/649762/">added $30 million</a> to sales by applying AI and the Lighthouse to its supply-chain functions, including using technology to preemptively flag when service may be disrupted. It hopes to capitalize on retailer-demand-forecasting technology next.Davis said Kraft Heinz was using data from big-box retailers fulfilling online orders to give food companies more frequent updates on their packaged-food-item availability.<h2 id="d6fecf58-2b42-4105-a40f-48be2f519577">Working with Microsoft to make factories more streamlined</h2>Kraft Heinz has sought to stay dominant in food manufacturing partly by acquiring numerous brands over the years.Thanks in part to its history of acquiring other brands, many of Kraft Heinz's factories have used different industrial computers, assembly lines, and machines. Over a few years, it pulled data from its various manufacturing systems, determined which data would be most useful for supply-chain and demand-forecasting recommendations, and put it in a centralized system, Lighthouse, which it launched in 2022 and uses in North America and Europe.Lighthouse pulls in data from software including Intenseye, a workplace safety tool, and ST-One, which tracks inputs from sensors attached to manufacturing systems in North America, Europe, and Brazil.Kraft Heinz is using Microsoft Azure's cloud platform as it pulls together all data and analytics into one home. The company also worked with Microsoft for a new generative-AI tool called KraftGPT, which employees are using as a catch-all "Ask Me Anything" type of app.<h2 id="019be15d-6205-4b22-a0fe-eee94920b6d7">Creating a more autonomous workflow</h2>Gustavo Gotelip, the vice president and head of supply-chain operations for Kraft Heinz's food-service and ingredients divisions, told BI that the company's investments in data collection had led it to retrain manufacturing teams.Gotelip added that the company was hiring and training more data and automation engineers and robotics experts, though he declined to expand further.Kraft Heinz says its investments in automation and AI aren't meant to replace its workforce. A representative said the company viewed technology investments as a "copilot," using technology to make more informed business decisions across manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics.Davis said it had been easier to onboard talent because Lighthouse gives employees directions for handling demand disruptions."It's almost like you can take a person from day one and make them just as good as a person that's been there 10 years," Davis said. "Because the system is telling you exactly what you need to do."

Industry experts say that while it could boost the online retailer's revenues, getting brands to sign on could be an uphill battle.Shein has developed a unique on-demand manufacturing model that enables it to turn around designs in a matter of weeks, compared with the several months more typical among its fast-fashion competitors.Now, according to an investor letter from Shein's executive chair, Donald Tang, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/business/shein-to-market-its-unique-supply-chain-technology-to-global-brands-32fa0ed8">in March</a>, Shein is looking to sell that technology to other brands and retailers."Supply-chain technology is a top secret for a business like this," said Evelyn Gong, an assistant professor of operations management at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business. "People have been curious, and now Shein suddenly is willing to share it with everyone who's willing to pay for this technology, including its competitors."Shein was founded in China in 2012 and moved its headquarters to Singapore in late 2021. It's a private company and thus isn't obligated to disclose its financials, but Coresight Research estimated that it generated nearly $32 billion in revenue in 2023. It has also opened up its site to third-party sellers in a marketplace model similar to Amazon's.But Shein's rise hasn't come without controversies — it has weathered allegations related to its labor practices and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/temu-shein-under-increased-pressure-from-us-lawmakers-de-minimis-2024-2">import strategy</a>, among others — that could hamper its efforts to expand to new business lines, experts said.<h2 id="71c04589-0e4b-4cac-91f4-c71ea2486d4c">A 'playground' for small designers and brands</h2>Shein works directly with more than 5,000 suppliers, mainly in China. Its forecasting tools and high volume of customer data allow it to stay on top of the latest trends.By showing it has consistently high demand for its products on social media, it can negotiate lower rates and minimum order quantities with its suppliers, Prince Ghosh, a cofounder and the CEO of the quality-control startup Factored Quality, said. This means it can manufacture only the most popular items and avoid sinking money into inventory that might not sell as well."Fast fashion has been around for a while," Ghosh said. It's often very expensive for brands to develop prototypes themselves, especially in the US, so using Shein's supplier network could be more cost-effective."It would be a pretty good playground for individual designers and small brands or startups that are just starting out and don't have the resources to set up an independent supply chain themselves," Gong said.Shein has also made use of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/shein-temu-de-minimis-tax-loophole-scrutiny-2024-1">de minimis, a provision in US import law</a> that allows shipments of less than $800 to enter the country duty-free and with minimal inspection. It consolidates orders in fulfillment centers in China and then ships them by air to the US in individual parcels. By doing so, it can avoid paying duties that more traditional retailers would have to pay when importing their products wholesale. US lawmakers and advocacy groups argue that the loophole hurts American textile businesses and allows for illicit goods to enter the country. Shein has also said it <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sheingroup.com/pdfs/aafa-letter/">supports changes to de minimis</a> as long as they're fair.<h2 id="76aa076e-ab0d-416e-859c-0bf34ace2d9c">Brands might have some hesitations</h2>Shein wouldn't be the first retailer to diversify its revenue streams by selling its technology.Walmart <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-commerce-technologies-trademark-filing-job-posting-amazon-2022-2">launched Walmart Commerce Technologies</a> in 2021 to sell services such as its artificial-intelligence-powered <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20240314754136/en/Walmart-Commerce-Technologies-Launches-AI-Powered-Logistics-Product">route-optimization</a> tech and its in-store fulfillment capabilities. The German e-commerce giant Zalando <a target="_blank" href="https://corporate.zalando.com/en/brands-retailers/platform-services/zalando-logistics-solutions/zalando-logistics-solutions-glance">similarly sells logistics services</a> to partner retailers.But Shein has reputational concerns to contend with. For one, it has drawn criticism and scrutiny following <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/shein-factory-workers-18-hour-shifts-paid-low-wages-report-2022-10">reports</a> that laborers in its partner factories worked excessive hours in poor conditions. If brands work with their network of suppliers, experts said, it could mean sharing their detailed design information, which some see as a risk. It's not clear whether Shein would get access to its partners' customer data or whether it could use that data to inform its own product decisions."We are continually investing in our review process and are committed to driving industry-wide advancement," the spokesperson said. "Shein suppliers and third-party sellers are required to comply with company policy and certify their products do not infringe third-party IP."Working with established brands could help Shein improve its image as it prepares to debut on the public markets. CNBC reported that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/13/nrf-rejects-shein-membership-as-retailer-pursues-us-ipo.html">Shein had also applied</a> to join the National Retail Federation, the largest retail trade organization in the US, but had been denied multiple times.But if it's successful in selling its tech to brands it hasn't worked with before, Shein could expand its reach, Anand Kumar, an associate director of retail research at Coresight Research, said."Currently, Shein just sells the very low-cost products, but including various brands in its platform, it can sell products at various price ranges," he said. "It'll help to position it to compete with more global retailers."

This would put it just behind Porsche's $9.1 billion IPO in 2021, per <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-11-28/shein-s-ipo-plan-to-fuel-scrutiny-over-cotton-roots-in-china">Bloomberg records.</a>However, Shein faces challenges in its plans to go public in the US.US lawmakers have lobbied to delay Shein's public offering until they can verify there's no forced labor in its supply chain. Shein has <a target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/china-e-commerce-shipments-would-lose-us-tariff-exemption-under-proposed-law-2023-06-14/">repeatedly said</a> it does not use manufacturers in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/congress-passes-ban-on-all-imports-from-chinas-xinjiang-2021-12">Xinjiang,</a> where there are concerns over human rights abuses.Republican senator Marc Rubio has also urged the SEC to press Shein to make additional disclosures about its operations and ties to the Chinese Communist Party.Shein did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
