Vikings Season 5 blurs cooked meat and nudity in India — Netflix pushes blame on Network18

New Delhi, Jan 14 () Shares of TV18 Broadcast on Tuesday zoomed 16.5 per cent after the company reported a 39.60 per cent rise in consolidated net profit for the December 2019 quarter.
 The scrip jumped 14.89 per cent to close at Rs 28.55 on the BSE. During the trade, it advanced 19.11 per cent to Rs 29.60.
 On the NSE, it climbed 16.49 per cent to close at Rs 28.95.
 A total of 22.78 lakh shares were traded on the BSE and over three crore units exchanged hands on the NSE.
 Media firm TV18 Broadcast on Tuesday reported a 39.60 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 205.16 crore for the quarter ended on December 31, 2019.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 146.96 crore for the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, TV18 Broadcast said in a regulatory filing.
 Consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 1,425.37 crore for the quarter under consideration, as against Rs 1,474.70 crore a year ago.
 "Our emphasis on delivering value to the consumer, expanding the partner ecosystem and raising profitability were the primary milestones during the past quarter," TV18 Chairman Adil Zainulbhai said.

TV18 Broadcast shares zoom 16.5 pc after Dec quarter results

Media firm TV18 Broadcast Ltd and Cable News Network (CNN) will end their 10-year partnership in January next year, reported PTI. 
 In a filing to the <keyword id="43628" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bombay-stock-exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</keyword>, TV18 Broadcast, which operates English news channel CNN-IBN, said the company and CNN "will be successfully concluding their 10-year brand licensing and news services arrangement for use of the CNN brand and CNN news content in January 2016". 

	It further said: "The parties have decided not to renew the arrangement." 
 

	Now both the companies will plan their own growth trajectories independently in one of the most dynamic and fast growing markets in the world. 
 

	Global Broadcast News (GBN), a TV18 group company, had signed a branding agreement in 2005 with CNN Turner International. It led to the launch of English news channel CNN-IBN in India.

In Delhi, which stands as one of the top locations for extravagant weddings, the expected impact is particularly significant. Approximately 4.5 lakh weddings are projected in the capital city, potentially contributing around ₹1.5 lakh crore to the local economy. This surge benefits a variety of sectors, including hospitality, fashion, gold and jewellery, and even technology, as digital services and e-invitations become more prevalent. The build-up to this wedding season has already shown signs of economic revival, particularly in sectors like gold and jewellery. Suvankar Sen, MD &amp; CEO of Senco Gold, noted a marked increase in wedding-related purchases during the recent Dhanteras festival. Speaking in an interview with CNBC TV-18, Sen highlighted that the August duty cut on gold played a significant role in spurring early buying behaviour. He pointed out that this policy move helped lower the cost of gold, enticing consumers to make significant purchases ahead of the peak wedding months. "We can see at least 40-50% of the consumers who are buying right now are related to weddings, and the 40-50% who are not related to weddings, are divided amongst consumers with a budget of ₹2-3 lakh buying some kind of jewellery as an annual buying during this auspicious time. Some consumers are buying working women's jewellery or lightweight for their daughters, something within ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh kind of buying happening. ₹20,000-30,000 is a budget consumer at all levels, some kind of a pendant, ring or earring that everyone would like to buy during this auspicious time. So, this is how we are seeing the consumer," he added. This early momentum has translated into packed showrooms and increased consumer spending, signalling a robust start to wedding-related commerce. Retailers across India are now preparing for a flurry of activity, restocking inventory and expanding service offerings to meet the anticipated demand. From wedding attire and décor to luxury items like high-end electronics and custom-made invitations, the shopping lists are extensive, promising a lucrative time for businesses. Jamie Dimon: No, I haven't endorsed Donald Trump

New Delhi: The merger of media assets of Reliance Industries and the India business of global media house the Walt Disney is expected to be complete by the end of the third quarter of this fiscal, according to a regulatory filing by billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led group. The fair trade regulator CCI has already approved the merger of Viacom 18 and <keyword id="19976122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Star-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Star India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Star India">Star India</keyword> and NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) has sanctioned the scheme regarding it. "The companies are in the process of obtaining other requisite approvals for the completion of the transaction and transaction closer is expected in 3Q FY 25," informed Reliance Industries on Monday in its quarter earning statement. The merger of Reliance group-controlled media assets - TV18 Broadcast and E18 - with Network18 Media &amp; Investments has already been sanctioned by the NCLT and was made effective on October 3, it said. Earlier on September 27, the government approved the transfer of licenses relating to Non News &amp; Current Affairs TV channels held by media entities of Reliance Industries to Star India. "The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, vide its order dated September 27, has granted its approval for transfer of Licenses relating to Non News &amp; Current Affairs TV channels held by <keyword id="19976121" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Viacom18" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Viacom18" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Viacom18">Viacom18</keyword> Media Private Limited in favour of Star India," it had said. Viacom18 is the holding company that owns the media and entertainment business of billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries and Bodhi Tree Systems. Both sides are in the final stages of the merger, making some adjustments in the business as per the Competition Commission of India (CCI) directions. On August 30, the NCLT had approved the scheme of merger of Viacom18 Media and Digital 18 Media, holding media and entertainment assets of Reliance Industries with Star India. The scheme had proposed the transfer and vesting of Media Operations Undertaking from Viacom 18 and Jio Cinema into Digital18, which is a subsidiary of Viacom 18. This would be followed by "demerger, transfer and vesting of V18 Undertaking from Digital 18 into Star India". The merger of the media assets of Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Co.'s India business will create the country's largest media empire worth over Rs 70,000 crore. Earlier, the CCI had said it has cleared the "proposed combination involving Reliance Industries Ltd, Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd, Digital18 Media Ltd, Star India Pvt Ltd and Star Television Productions Ltd, subject to the compliance of voluntary modifications". Viacom18 is part of the RIL group, and Star India is wholly owned by The <keyword id="19986269" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Walt-Disney-Company" source="keywords">Walt Disney Company</keyword>. Star Television Productions, a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, is owned indirectly by Walt Disney. The CCI, however, did not disclose voluntary modifications in the original deal made by the two parties. As per the deal, Mukesh Ambani-led RIL and its affiliates will hold 63.16 per cent of the combined entity that will house two streaming services and 120 television channels. Walt Disney will hold the remaining 36.84 per cent stake in the combined entity, which will also be India's largest media house. Reliance Industries has also agreed to invest close to Rs 11,500 crore into the joint venture to give it the muscle to fight rivals like Japan's Sony and Netflix. Nita Ambani, wife of billionaire and RIL Chairman <keyword id="19916798" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="keywords">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, will head the joint venture, while Uday Shankar will be the vice-chairperson.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Some analysts are eyeing zero rate cuts from the Fed this year.</li><li>RBC's Lori Calvasina forecasts that a no-rate-cut scenario would pull the S&amp;P 500 down 8.5%.</li></ul>After the latest jobs report <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/next-interest-rate-cut-jobs-report-july-september-forecast-outlook-2024-6">all but dismissed an interest rate cut</a> in July, some analysts are taking it a step further, and expect no rate cuts at all this calendar year.That's more pessimistic than what investors continue to bet on, with fed fund futures indicating at least one <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html?redirect=/trading/interest-rates/countdown-to-fomc.html">25-basis point rate cut</a> to occur in 2024. It's also a massive about-face for the market that was expecting as many as seven cuts at the beginning of the year. Yet, to RBC's head of US equity strategy, Lori Calvasina, even one cut is too much. Yet, with stock markets priced around the forecast of looser monetary policy, indexes could tumble if the Fed doesn't move, she told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRRJdUXz4WU">Bloomberg</a>.She said that in a scenario where interest rates don't ease this year, inflation remains stickier than anticipated, and Treasury yields stay elevated, the benchmark S&amp;P 500 could slide as low as 4,900, indicating an 8.5% drop from current levels.But there's reason to keep rates higher for longer, others have noted.According to market veteran Ed Yardeni, the Federal Reserve should "take a vacation," and leave interest rates unchanged through 2024, he told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/market/ed-yardeni-us-federal-reserve-interest-rate-cuts-us-inflation-us-jobs-data-19425935.htm">CNBC-TV18</a>. In his view, the central bank has managed to normalize rates to where they should be and has done so without denting the economy."If they go ahead and lower interest rates without being necessary, they could get a melt-up in the stock market, which would create other problems, as we saw in the late 1990s," the Yardeni Research President said, referring to the <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-melt-up-1990s-record-highs-interest-rate-cuts-2024-1">equity bubble burst that occurred that decade</a>.Instead, markets can expect one or two cuts over the next 12 months, he said, but not through the end of this year.Meanwhile, Catalyst Capital's David Miller agreed that the Fed shouldn't cut interest rates in 2024, citing that this would allow inflation to run hotter.There are, of course, those on the other side of the argument.On Monday, Moody Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JcvSUC-V4s">cautioned</a> that the longer rates remained high, the more chance something breaks in the economy."I've got this image in my mind of the system as an engine, and it's shaking tremendously under the stress of these higher rates," he told Bloomberg. "So far it has held together with a little duct tape and some help from the Federal Reserve and banking regulators. But for how long, and why? Why would you do this?"

New Delhi, Shares of <keyword id="19936674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance" source="keywords">Reliance</keyword> Industries on Thursday ended nearly 1 per cent higher after <keyword id="19936671" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="walt-disney-co" source="keywords">Walt Disney Co</keyword> and the firm announced the signing of binding pacts to merge their media operations in India to create a Rs 70,000 crore behemoth. The stock of the country's most valued firm in terms of market valuation ended at Rs 2,924.75, up 0.54 per cent on the BSE. During the day, it climbed 1.68 per cent to Rs 2,958. Shares of the company ended with a gain of 0.66 per cent at Rs 2,930.75 on the NSE. During the day, it went up by 1.60 per cent to Rs 2,957.95. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 19,78,794.25 crore. In the broader equity market, the 30-share BSE benchmark climbed 195.42 points or 0.27 per cent to settle at 72,500.30, and the Nifty went up by 31.65 points or 0.14 per cent to 21,982.80. Under the deal, coming just over a month after the failed USD 10 billion merger of rivals <keyword id="19976119" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zee" source="keywords">Zee</keyword> and <keyword id="19914172" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sony" source="keywords">Sony</keyword>, Reliance and its affiliates will hold 63.16 per cent in the combined entity that will house two streaming services and 120 television channels. Disney will hold the remaining 36.84 per cent, the companies said in a statement on Wednesday. Reliance has also agreed to invest at closing Rs 11,500 crore into the joint venture to give it the muscle to fight rivals such as Japan's Sony and Netflix. Media ventures of Reliance are housed in Network 18, which owns TV18 news channels as well as a plethora of entertainment (under the 'Colors' brand) and sports channels. NW18 also has stakes in moneycontrol.com, bookmyshow and publishes magazines. Its subsidiary NW18 owns news channels CNBC/CNNNews. Reliance separately owns a movie production arm - JioStudios, and majority stakes in two listed cable distribution companies, Den and <keyword id="20777796" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hathway" source="keywords">Hathway</keyword>.
