The Comptroller and Auditor General (<keyword id="19900713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CAG" source="keywords">CAG</keyword>) has asked the <keyword id="19900485" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Ministry" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Finance Ministry" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Finance Ministry">Finance Ministry</keyword> to identify <keyword id="22837132" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="high-risk-taxpayers" source="keywords">high risk taxpayers</keyword> in the <keyword id="20981418" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST-composition-scheme" source="keywords">GST composition scheme</keyword> on a periodical basis and verify from other sources, including third parties, their declared <keyword id="22837745" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="value-of-sales" source="keywords">value of sales</keyword> to check <keyword id="20121097" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-evasion" source="keywords">tax evasion</keyword>. Based on an analysis of 8.66 lakh composition taxpayers under the central jurisdiction between 2019-20 to 2021-22 fiscals, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) found that a significant number of <keyword id="19951327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gst" source="keywords">GST</keyword> taxpayers have a high risk of crossing the <keyword id="22837744" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="turnover-threshold" source="keywords">turnover threshold</keyword> for composition levy scheme (CLS). These high risk taxpayers were identified by audit from the data contained in GST returns viz. GSTR-4A, GSTR-7 along with third party data sources such as IT returns, 'Vahan' database etc. The GST composition scheme is available to taxpayers whose aggregate turnover, in the preceding financial year, has not exceeded Rs 1.5 crore. For taxpayers in special category states, this limit is Rs 75 lakh. The CAG said two major risk areas in respect of CLS taxpayers are under-declaration of the 'value of outward supply' by the taxpayers to continue in the scheme; and non-fulfillment of eligibility conditions for availing CLS. The audit also observed that there were certain CLS taxpayers who were continuing in the Scheme despite not fulfilling the eligibility criteria prescribed in the Act and the Rules, and a substantial number of CLS taxpayers were not discharging their obligatory responsibilities of filing returns and payment of tax under reverse charge. "The Ministry should identify high risk taxpayers in the CLS on a periodical basis using a risk-based approach and verify their declared value of outward supply from other sources including third parties to minimize the possibility of misuse by ineligible persons," the CAG said in a report tabled in Parliament recently. The official auditor also suggested that the Finance Ministry may develop a system of identifying ineligible taxpayers and take action to exclude them from the CLS in order to prevent misuse of the intended benefits of the scheme.

E-invoicing was initially implemented for large companies with turnover of more than Rs 500 crore, and within 3 years the threshold has now been lowered to Rs 5 crore. "Inclusion of MSME sector in the e-invoicing regime would benefit the overall business ecosystem by reducing costs, rationalising errors, ensuring faster invoice processing, and also limiting commercial disputes in the long term," Mohan added. Under <keyword id="6359833" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goods-and-services-tax" source="Orion">Goods and Services Tax</keyword> (GST) law, e-invoicing for business-to-business (B2B) transactions was made mandatory for companies with turnover of over Rs 500 crore from October 1, 2020, which was then extended to those with turnover of over Rs 100 crore effective January 1, 2021. From April 1, 2021, companies with turnover of over Rs 50 crore were generating B2B e-invoices, and the threshold was brought down to Rs 20 crore beginning April 1, 2022. From October 1, 2022, the threshold was further lowered to Rs 10 crore. EY Tax Partner Saurabh Agarwal said the industry needs to review their vendor masters and ensure that any vendor supplying goods or services and crossing the threshold turnover of Rs 5 crore is necessarily issuing a e-invoice from August 2023 to avoid any dispute with respect to availment of input tax credit (ITC). The threshold signals a greater demand for workers than jobs as the labor shortage lingers in parts of the economy.<h2>Who's hiring and who's quitting</h2>While the JOLTS report lags the government's payrolls data by a full month, it offers key detail around where the labor market's rebound is accelerating and where it might be hitting snags.The professional and business services sector added the most openings with an increase of 227,000, according to the report. The retail sector followed by adding 133,000 job openings in June, and restaurants and bars added 121,000 openings as the country further reopened. Broadly, the rate of job openings rose to 6.5% from 6.1%.Quits rose to 3.9 million from 3.6 million, bringing the figure within spitting distance of its April record. Quitting was most common in the retail, restaurant, and accommodation sectors, supporting businesses' anecdotes about unsuccessful hiring efforts. The increase in quits suggests workers are confident of finding jobs elsewhere and are possibly exploring new sectors as the post-pandemic economy takes form.The sectors facing elevated quits levels have also been those raising wages the most through the summer. For example, wages in the leisure and hospitality sector <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/labor-shortage-wages-salaries-leisure-hospitality-highest-growth-20-years-2021-7">surged the most in two decades</a> through the first quarter as businesses struggled to hire and retain workers. Other services sectors hit hard by the pandemic have also raised pay as they rushed to rehire.

New Delhi, Jun 18 () The value of exempted income, like interest on PPF, savings bank account and loans given to family/friends, will be included along with taxable supplies while calculating the threshold limit for obtaining GST registration, the Authority for Advance Ruling (AAR) has said. Under the Goods and Services Tax law, businesses and individuals are required to obtain GST registration if their aggregate turnover is Rs 20 lakh or more. An individual, not engaged in any business, had filed an application before the Gujarat bench of AAR asking whether interest received from savings bank, PPF and loans and advances to family would be considered for the purpose of calculating threshold limit of Rs 20 lakh for registration under GST law. The individual, in his application, had disclosed that his total receipts in 2018-19 fiscal were about Rs 20.12 lakh, including rent receipt of Rs 9.84 lakh, while the remaining was interest on bank, PPF deposits and from personal loans extended to friends/family. The AAR, while ruling that interest income would be included for calculating registration threshold, said that the applicant is required to consider the value of both taxable supply i.e. "renting of immovable property" and exempted supply of service provided by way of extending deposits, loans or advances for which he earned interest income, to arrive at "aggregate turnover" to determine the threshold limit for the purpose of obtaining registration under the GST Act. "We conclude that the Applicant is required to aggregate the value of exempted interest income earned by way of extending deposits in PPF &amp; Bank Saving accounts and loans and advances given to his family/friends along with the value of the taxable supply i.e. "Renting of immovable property" for the purpose of calculating the threshold limit of Rs.20 Lakh for obtaining registration under GST law," the AAR said. And in 2022, when the S&amp;P 500 finished the year down 19%, Millennium was up 12%.The consistent string of positive returns at Millennium stems from it's being a multi-strategy approach.That means its 2,600 traders, investment analysts, and portfolio managers run independent groups concurrently using various investment strategies across stocks, bonds, options, and commodities.According to a report from <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.wsj.com/finance/investing/the-giant-hedge-fund-that-hates-risk-and-still-wins-1110e90a">The Wall Street Journal</a>, the game is simple: make money and stay employed, or lose money and probably get fired.The report said that when a Millennium portfolio manager that manages $1 billion loses $50 million, or 5%, the first threshold is reached and that manager's pool of available capital to trade is slashed in half, to $500 million.From there, if the portfolio manager loses an additional $25 million, or a total of 7.5% on the initial $1 billion allocated to them, they will likely be fired, the report said, adding that sometimes exceptions are made.This strict stop-loss trading strategy means the hedge fund goes through a lot of employees, sporting a high turnover rate of about 15%-20% of its staff each year.But the trading strategy is also what turned its founder, Israel Englander, into a billionaire.According to data from Bloomberg, Englander is worth $13.3 billion, making him the 172nd richest person in the world.And the strategy is still working. Millennium posted returns of about 10% in 2023, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/september-hedge-fund-performance-exoduspoint-citadel-millennium-point72-2024-10">and year-to-date it is up another 9.5%.</a>Millennium Management did not respond to a request for comment.

From stringent return-to-office policies to mass lay-offs, employers are on top again. The bank had already implemented a system that flags those working above the 80-hour threshold to human resources.Employees will need to share how many hours they are working and if they have the capacity to take on more.<h2 id="627c36ec-b7d3-48b0-a201-e7b8c5f096ea">Improving employee well-being</h2>Oliver Kayas, a senior lecturer in the faculty of business and law at Liverpool John Moores University, told Business Insider that these forms of employee-tracking technologies can be useful when the aim is to resolve issues surrounding employee well-being."Sometimes they can help to improve job satisfaction because if performance monitoring information is being used in a supportive way, staff can be quite satisfied with that," he said.Kayas said they can also be important in matters of health and safety, such as monitoring and identifying unsafe practices, like not wearing a high-visibility jacket or helmet on a construction site.He pointed out that surveillance tools can additionally reduce the misreporting of expenses within businesses and minimize bribery, corruption, and theft.<h2 id="1181c42e-dd75-4f68-a742-eba4757ad7f3">Employee surveillance for RTO policies</h2><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ey-tracking-office-attendance-data-teams-disregard-rto-policies-2024-1">EY</a>, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/citigroup-monitoring-office-attendance-absent-staff-fired-2023-7">Citigroup</a>, and PwC have also introduced measures to track workers — but for a different reason. These firms want to ensure staff are complying with RTO policies.Earlier this month, accounting giant PwC informed its 26,000 employees in the UK that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/accountancy-giant-pwc-introduces-office-mandates-uk-staff-2024-9">it will start tracking their work locations</a> from January to ensure people were spending at least three days in the office or with clients."We told employees that from January we would start sharing their location data on a monthly basis, so they can see how many days they have spent in an office or on a client site," a spokesperson from PwC told Business Insider.For Kayas, alongside some of the positive effects that can arise from surveillance technology, there are a whole host of negative outcomes.<h2 id="aa878169-455c-4ebd-9d1d-a2c6bb9c9fd7">Blurring the line between private and personal life</h2>"It can reduce the privacy of employees," he said, adding that when it comes to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jpmorgan-chase-employees-describe-fear-mass-workplace-data-surveillance-wadu-2022-5">tracking locations</a>, staff are likely to think: 'Why doesn't my employer trust me?'"That blurring of the lines between the private and the personal life is a big no-no," Kayas said.Invasive practices like this can, in turn, increase resistance from workers against their managers, which heightens stress and anxiety, he explained."That might create high staff turnover rates," he said, "and there are all sorts of costs associated with recruiting staff."Overall, Kayas held that whether staff surveillance is good or bad, or right or wrong, comes down to whether you're asking the employee or the employer.Bank of America, EY, and Citigroup did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.JPMorgan Chase declined to comment.

While it is best to not "file away" filing your income tax returns for later, are you aware of the right ITR form that applies to you? Out of the 7 ITR forms available, how do you know which one is the right fit for you, and where to start? For starters, the first 4 ITR forms (ITR-1,2,3,4) are necessary for an individual to know about, while filing taxes. Lets decode all these forms in detail with Tanya, a 22 year old IT professional who earns Rs 10,000 per month. Her mother has a monthly rental income of Rs 12,000 per month. Will the two of them be required to file ITR? Well, the answer is no. You see, Tanya's <keyword id="21120362" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="annual-income" source="keywords">annual income</keyword> comes to about Rs 1,20,000, while her mother's total rental income comes to about Rs 2,40,000. If you opt for the old tax regime, you don't need to file an ITR if you annual income is below Rs 2.5 lakh. In the new regime, this limit stands at Rs 3 lakh. Similarly, if your grandparents are aged between 61-79, they need not file an ITR if their annual income (via rent, pensions) falls below Rs 3 lakh. And if they are aged above 80, this threshold if of Rs 5 lakh for the year. <h2>ITR-1: Sahaj </h2>Lets continue with Tanya's life. She works super hard, and over the years, earns a few well deserved raises. Now, her monthly income is Rs 50,000. In this case, she will have to file ITR-1, which is also known as Sahaj. This form applies to you if your total annual income for the year does not exceed Rs 50,00,000. The best part? This form is generally pre-filled, and all you've got to do is verify the information through your <keyword id="22247325" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Form-16" source="keywords">Form-16</keyword> and Annual Information Statement (AIS). <h2>ITR-2 </h2>Over time, Tanya decides to start investing in mutual funds. While she holds most of her investments for the long-term, she is compelled to sell some units of her investment in equity mutual funds, due to a medical emergency at home. She had purchased some equity mutual fund units worth Rs 2,00,000 on April 1, 2023. Due to the emergency, she had to sell about Rs 80,000 worth of units in December of the same year. On redemption, she received Rs 1,10,000. Since she had held these securities for less than 12 months, Tanya would have to pay a short-term <keyword id="20301441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-gains-tax" source="keywords">capital gains tax</keyword> of 15%, Had Tanya held on to these securities for more than 12 months and then sold them at a gain, she'd have to pay long-term capital gains tax, which is applicable at 10% for equity mutual funds. And to account for such capital gains, be it from sale of shares, mutual funds, property or the like, Tanya needs to file ITR-2. <h2>ITR-3</h2>Tanya's brother, Vishal, is a freelancer who got hooked to trading in futures and options during the pandemic. Initially, he made solid profits, but during FY24, he ran into losses worth Rs 5 lakh. In this case, he will have to file ITR-3 to report his losses. This form is to be used by those who earn income under the head of profits (or even losses) of business or profession, other than regular salary. In case Tanya's mother starts receiving rental income from more than one house properties, she will also have to file ITR-3. Or, in case you are a CA, or a doctor and have your own practice (are self employed), this form is for you. <h2>ITR-4: Sugam </h2>This form is exclusively for those who opt to be taxed under the presumptive taxation scheme. You can opt for this scheme if you are a small business/firm and your annual turnover is less than Rs 3 crore, or you are self employed with an annual revenue of less than Rs 75 lakh. Under this, you don't pay taxes on your actual income, rather, you pay taxes on a presumed income. As per law, under this scheme, your net income will be considered as 6% of your total revenue, and you'll have to pay taxes on that. Here, you're really not calculating your income for taxation, and hence, it is not even mandatory to maintain records. In case you file the wrong ITR, you can always file a revised return by December 31, 2024. In case you miss filing your ITR on time, you’ll have to pay Rs 5,000 as a penalty. Moreover, you’ll be charged interest on your outstanding tax liability, if there is any. So, get down to work, right away!

Picture this: You're walking down the grocery aisle in 2009. A carton of eggs costs about $1.60, and a pound of ground beef is $2.13. The typical home for sale across the street is about $214,000. Flash forward to today, and the prices for those same goods have shot up to $2.71, $5.47, and $412,000. Prices are up about 45% across the board. But the one thing that has stayed constant? The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/current-federal-minimum-wage-is-13-years-old-inflation-impact-2022-7">federal minimum wage</a>, which has been stuck at $7.25 an hour for 15 years.You can see the issue: People making the mandated minimum have far less purchasing power than they once did. The silver lining is that thanks to the reality of the labor market, very few workers actually make $7.25. It could <a target="_blank" href="https://www.epi.org/publication/a-15-minimum-wage-would-have-significant-and-direct-effects-on-the-federal-budget/#:~:text=The%20estimated%20annual%20reductions%20due,2025%20and%20later%20years%20than">reduce government expenditures</a> on public assistance programs and put more money into consumers' pockets for them to <a target="_blank" href="https://ideas.repec.org/a/fip/fedhle/y2013iaugn313.html">increase aggregate household spending</a> and, in turn, boost GDP.Though it seems like a win-win-win for the economy, workers, and even businesses (though many won't say that), Congress has resisted raising the federal minimum wage for the past decade and a half. Getting anything done legislatively is always a challenge, especially in an election year, but <a target="_blank" href="https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2023/5/24/725-isnt-cutting-it-in-this-economy-voters-support-raising-the-minimum-wage-to-20-per-hour">polls</a> <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/04/22/most-americans-support-a-15-federal-minimum-wage/">indicate</a> a higher minimum wage is broadly popular. Many states, red and blue, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pay-raise-minimum-wage-increase-january-2024-state-2023-12">have implemented higher wages</a>. Some have even done so by voter referendum, including Nebraska and Florida — not exactly Democratic strongholds. Even if it's not on the 2024 agenda, it could be on the radar in Washington, DC, for 2025."You would think that this would be an uncontroversial policy — just pass a minimum wage, give these workers a higher wage," said Yannet Lathrop, a senior researcher and policy analyst at the National Employment Law Program. "But nothing is easy, obviously, in Washington."The US is in uncharted territory when it comes to federal minimum-wage hikes. This is the longest period that the national floor hasn't increased since it was implemented in 1938.The $7.25 minimum is also out of step with the many states and municipalities that have wage standards separate from — and often above — the federal number. Arizona's minimum, for example, is $14.35, California's $16, Florida's $12, and West Virginia's $8.75. Seattle's minimum wage for large businesses is $19.97, and for smaller ones it's $17.25. Still, several states have a minimum wage that matches the federal one, such as Wisconsin and Iowa, and places like Mississippi and South Carolina have no state minimum wage, meaning $7.25 is the floor.Beyond legal requirements, most businesses are now paying well above $7.25. Part of this is thanks to campaigns like The Fight for $15 — as in a $15 minimum wage — which has for years been a progressive rallying cry and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stimulus-package-pelosi-minimum-wage-increase-coronavirus-relief-2021-2">legislative push</a>. (That <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/when-will-the-minimum-wage-increase-bernie-sanders-new-bill-2023-5">goal has inched up to $17</a>, which proponents say is necessary <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-15-minimum-wage-may-worth-when-comes-into-effect-2021-2">because of inflation</a>.) But a lot of the recent increases are thanks to the super-tight post-pandemic labor market in which companies in the service and retail sectors raised their base pay in an attempt to woo workers. Walmart's minimum is now $14, and it says its average associate makes over $17.50. Target's starting wages range from $15 to $24. It's not uncommon to see help-wanted signs outside fast-food restaurants and stores advertising $14 or $15 an hour. As <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/23/business/economy/minimum-wage.html">The New York Times has pointed out</a>, low-wage workers make more than their state's minimum wage basically everywhere. One of the tricky things standing in the way of a minimum-wage increase is a fear of what mandating higher pay might do to the labor market and the economy. Whenever there are rumblings of a government-ordered wage hike, the business community acts like the sky is falling. They claim that higher paychecks will drive them under — especially the little guys — and cause them to lay off workers en masse. Hyperbole aside, it's not unreasonable to wonder about the risks higher wages may pose. For workers, a $15 wage only matters if they get to keep their jobs.The research on the impact of minimum-wage increases can be a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure situation — you can probably cherry-pick a research paper to back up whatever argument you're making. One <a target="_blank" href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/impacts-of-minimum-wages-review-of-the-international-evidence">2019 review</a> of the international literature on the impact of minimum wages found a "very muted effect" on employment and a significant increase in the earnings of low-wage workers. The Congressional Budget Office has a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cbo.gov/publication/55681">neat little calculator</a> that lets you play around with its estimates of the effects of a federal minimum-wage hike. It predicts it would lift families out of poverty but could also result in some job loss."Even if we have unemployment tick up the next few months, the fact of the matter is with so few workers down around that $7.25 level, an increase is not going to affect that many businesses significantly," said Jacob Vigdor, an economist and professor at the University of Washington who has studied the impact of Seattle's minimum-wage hike in the mid-2010s.Vigdor said his research found a 99.3% survival rate for Seattle businesses, and the labor market when the move was enacted was not as strong as it is now. He found that some workers, particularly those with less experience, saw their hours go down as businesses tried to compensate but that most people still saw a net increase in their paychecks. He said teens looking for their first jobs, in particular, wound up being losers.More-recent hikes, like those for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/california-fast-food-minimum-wage-newsom-cutting-jobs-losses-employment-2024-7">fast-food workers in California</a>, also don't seem to have <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/california-minimum-wage-fast-food-qsr-restaurants-silver-lining-candidates-2024-6">put tons of people out of work</a>."We're not seeing these job losses that are claimed to be inevitable," said Justin Wiltshire, an assistant economics professor at the University of Victoria in British Columbia <a target="_blank" href="https://irle.berkeley.edu/publications/working-papers/minimum-wage-effects-and-monopsony-explanations/">who has studied</a> minimum-wage hikes in New York and California.Michael Reich, an economics professor and the chair of UC Berkeley's Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics, told me that the cost of fast-food wage increases in New York and California were absorbed by small price increases, reduced turnover costs (because employees stayed longer), and reductions in excess profits. He added that much of the time, businesses worry that higher prices will hurt their sales without taking into account that their competitors will raise their prices, too."They're going to be in the same place, competitively, that they were before," he said, "but they often don't have that outlook."David Neumark, an economist at the University of California, Irvine, told me he still thinks a higher minimum would lead to job loss. He acknowledges that the grounds of the labor market have shifted, but he still doesn't think the federal minimum ought to go up — or, if it does, it should be indexed locally and to inflation."It is certainly true that whatever the minimum wage was in any location three years ago or whatever, it is less binding now because wages have gone up," he said.Once the minimum wage gets so high that it starts to cause a bunch of job loss, that's a problem. But what counts as "too high" isn't easily deciphered — and in many places across the country that have raised the minimum, that threshold doesn't seem to have arrived. There are potential trade-offs — a small increase in prices, for example — but it seems like they may be worth it in the name of putting more money in workers' pockets, supporting the economy, and helping businesses keep their staffers around.It is impossible to predict the exact impact of a higher minimum wage at the federal level. A lot of the effect would depend on the labor market, competition, geography, and, importantly, the amount. The new progressive benchmark is $17 an hour, but there's plenty of space between $7.25 and that. Some of the aversion comes down to a simple fear of the unknown. If a higher minimum wage lifts millions of people out of poverty, that's incredible. But you also can't blame some people for worrying they might be one of the unlucky ones who have a hard time finding a new gig because businesses aren't hiring as much. You also can't blame consumers who fret about prices creeping up, even if only by a few cents. The business community has done a good job of messaging that higher pay will be the end of days in a way that really does scare people. But plenty of businesses can afford to pay their workers more, even if that means they profit less.It's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/federal-minimum-wage-too-low-every-us-county-inflation-mortgage-2022-3">hard to argue</a> that $7.25 an hour is a livable wage basically anywhere in America. That amounts to about $15,000 a year — less than one-third of the median wage in the country, at the poverty line for individuals, and well below it for families. In one of the richest countries in the world, you shouldn't be able to work a full-time job and still live in poverty. It's good for everyone when low-wage workers have more money in their bank accounts. They spend it, which is a positive for the economy. And workers at the very bottom aren't the only ones helped by a higher minimum."You look at several of the states that do not have minimum wage above $7.25 an hour, and the average earnings of low-wage workers, it's just a lot lower than it is elsewhere," Wiltshire said. "There is more income inequality between the median worker and the lowest-paid worker."Over the past few years, we've seen that the US economy can sustain higher wages. At some point a downturn will hit, and the labor market will be more precarious. When that happens, workers shouldn't have to give back the hard-fought gains they've made over the past few years — especially given the evidence that it's not necessary. Few people have been making $7.25 for a while now. Businesses have survived, as has the economy. America is missing a golden opportunity to boost the job market

The oil-to-telecom-and-retail conglomerate's consolidated net profit stood at Rs 18,951 crore, or Rs 28.01 per share, in January-March quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal compared to Rs 19,299 crore, or Rs 28.52 a share, a year ago, according to a company's stock exchange filing. The profit was, however, higher quarter-on-quarter when compared to Rs 17,265 crore in October-December period. For the full fiscal FY24 (April 2023 to March 2024), Reliance posted a record net profit of Rs 69,621 crore as compared to Rs 66,702 crore earnings in the preceding financial year. Reliance also became the first Indian company to hit Rs 10 lakh crore turnover in FY24 when revenue from operations rose 2.6 per cent from Rs 9.74 lakh crore in 2022-23. The oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business, the main milch cow, posted a rise in profitability annually as well as sequentially, while retail business' earnings rose on new store openings despite lower footfalls. The firm helmed by billionaire <keyword id="19916798" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="keywords">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> saw telecom revenues soar as it outpaced competition in subscriber addition and data traffic. While quarterly EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was up 14.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 47,150 crore, registering growth across all businesses, the revenue from operations rose almost 11 per cent to Rs 2.64 lakh crore. The mainstay oil refining and petrochemicals business, called O2C, posted a 11 per cent rise in revenue and a 3 per cent higher EBITDA at Rs 16,777 crore in Q4. This was primarily because of "advantageous" sourcing of feedstock (crude oil) for refining business and use of ethane for making chemicals as well as higher domestic product placement, a company statement said, adding exports were down 8.5 per cent. With the consumer base swelling to 481.8 million from 470.9 million at the end of December on a flat per-user revenues of Rs 181.7, Reliance <keyword id="21397660" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-Infocomm-Ltd" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Jio Infocomm Ltd" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Jio Infocomm Ltd">Jio Infocomm Ltd</keyword> - the digital services business - posted a 12 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 5,583 crore in the fourth quarter of FY24. Also, aiding the business was rise in data traffic to 40.9 billion GB in January-March from 38.1 billion GB in the preceding quarter. For the full year, Jio posted a profit of Rs 21,424 crore as compared to Rs 19,124 crore in FY23. Profits from the retail business climbed 11.7 per cent to Rs 2,698 crore as store count rose to 18,836 from 18,774. Store footfalls dropped to 272 million from 282 million in October-December 2023 but were higher than 219 million recorded in January-March 2023. Oil and gas EBITDA soared 47.5 per cent to Rs 5,606 crore as higher gas volumes partly offset lower price realisation. The firm's flagship KG-D6 block in Krishna Godavari basin in the Bay of Bengal is now producing about 30 million standard cubic metres per day of gas and 23,000 barrels a day of oil/condensate. The company said its outstanding debt rose to Rs 3.24 lakh crore from Rs 3.11 lakh crore in December-end. After accounting for cash in hand, net debt at Rs 1.16 lakh crore as on March 31 was lower than Rs 1.25 lakh crore a year back. Reliance Industries quarterly profit stays flat; annual earnings hit record at ₹69,621 crore

Appreciating wholeheartedly the major decision of the GST Council to allow small <keyword id="8112933" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="unregistered-vendors" source="Orion">unregistered vendors</keyword> to sell their goods through e-commerce portals, the <keyword id="76562" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Confederation-of-All-India-Traders" source="Orion">Confederation of All India Traders</keyword> (CAIT) on Saturday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for this "progressive decision" which was demanded by CAIT since last more than two years. CAIT national president B.C. Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said this decision will empower small traders who are below GST threshold limit to expand their business through e-commerce and will strongly strengthen Digital India vision. There are more than 8 crore small traders in the country but a large number of traders are conducting business activities without GST registration since their annual sale is below the GST threshold limit. Such traders will now be able to trade on e-commerce. Earlier, GST Council in its 47th meeting had granted in-principle approval for allowing unregistered suppliers and composition taxpayers to make intra-state supply of goods through ECOs, subject to certain conditions. CAIT said that India is fast emerging as the e-commerce hub and there is tremendous growth in online business. E-commerce business in India is now approximately 10 per cent of total retail. "In view of this it was extremely pertinent that small vendors, those who have small turnovers and do not fall under the purview of the GST, were not able to conduct online business, thus causing huge loss of market and business opportunities," a statement said. However, if Wentz plays 75% of the Colts' offensive snaps this season (or 70% of offensive snaps should the Colts make it to the postseason), that second-round pick becomes a far more valuable first-rounder.Ideally, the situation would have taken care of itself. Either the Colts would find their stride with Wentz at the helm and happily give up their first-round pick for the brighter future they had ahead, or the experiment would fail, and Wentz would lose playing time due to poor play or injury.But the Colts are caught in the middle.With a 3-5 record that already includes two losses to the division-leading Titans, Indy's chances of making the postseason aren't great.However, every AFC team has at least two losses, and the circular-firing-squad nature of the first half has left the door open for any team to make a run, including the Colts.With games against the Jets and Jaguars next on the schedule, the Colts jumping in the hunt for a wild card berth in just two weeks is not hard to imagine.Complicating matters even further is the play of Wentz himself. Wentz is in the first season of a four-year, $128 million extension he signed with the Eagles in 2019.Should the Colts choose to bench Wentz and preserve their first-round pick in 2022, it feels like a move that they can't come back from. "Hey, sorry, we had to bench you because we think we made a terrible trade to bring you to town, but we still totally believe in you, Carson!" isn't a compelling line.Conversely, if the Colts stick with Wentz and cannot turn things around, it will come as a double-whammy for the team's future. Not only will they hand over their first-round pick to the Eagles at the 2022 draft, but with every loss, that pick will be higher on the board.To ensure that Wentz doesn't clear the 75% snap threshold, they'd likely need to sit him out for five games this year.
