A test that the Congress-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance failed. While moving the motion, Narayanasamy pointed fingers at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi for trying to topple the government. “Former LG Kiran Bedi and the Central Government colluded with the opposition and tried to topple the government. It is clear that the people of Puducherry trust us. "What is happening in Puducherry now is political prostitution. But the truth will prevail," he said in his speech ahead of the floor test accusing BJP of derailing India's democratic system. Following his scathing speech and heated arguments over the voting rights of three nominated MLAs who support the BJP, the Chief Minister and ruling MLAs walked out of the house The numbers were stacked against Congress-DMK The Puducherry Assembly is made up of 33 seats. Of these, 30 are for elected MLAs and three are for MLAs nominated by the central government. During the 2016 Assembly elections, the Congress was able to garner 15 of these seats putting them in the majority. However, one of their MLAs was disqualified by the party last year under the anti-defection law. Another five have since resigned, including one who quit on Sunday, February 21. This meant that the overall strength of the Legislative Assembly was now down to 26 and the Congress alliance was holding on to 12 of those seats — one short of the halfway mark. And, since one of the members is also the speaker, his vote doesn’t count unless there’s a tie, leaving the Congress’ strength effectively only at 11. Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy resigns after Congress-led govt loses majority

New Delhi, Prosus-owned OLX Group on Monday said it has appointed former <keyword id="421566" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Star-Sports">Star Sports</keyword> President and CEO <keyword id="1479800" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gautam-Thakar">Gautam Thakar</keyword> as <keyword id="203686" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-CEO">Global CEO</keyword> of its pre-owned car marketplace <keyword id="10367965" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Olx-Autos">OLX Autos</keyword> effective March 15 of this year. Thakar will lead a worldwide organisation with a workforce of more than 4,000 employees across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the US. OLX Autos runs online digital trading platforms in addition to more than 500 inspection centres across the Americas, Asia and Africa, each year inspecting 300,000 vehicles and enabling 130,000 vehicle transactions. "We have no clue on this sudden decision to close the borders and are insisting on RT-PCR tests. This is going to create untold miseries to all those who used to freely cross the borders for various needs," said angry Wayanad residents, who were unable to move freely. Playing down the incident, Surendran said this might be an act done by Karnataka authorities as a measure of caution with Covid continuing to rage in Kerala. Karnataka shuts 13 entry points from two Kerala districts to prevent COVID-19 surge

After touching a high of 50,128.85 in early trade, the 30-share BSE index was trading 260.39 points or 0.52 per cent higher at 50,004.71. After a similar movement, the broader NSE <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty">Nifty</keyword> was quoting 81.50 points or 0.56 per cent up at 14,757.20. ONGC was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying around 6 per cent, followed by L&amp;T, <keyword id="111876" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-Finance">Bajaj Finance</keyword>, <keyword id="85462" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-FinServ">Bajaj Finserv</keyword>, ICICI Bank, <keyword id="6355199" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, <keyword id="6355975" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank">Axis Bank</keyword> and IndusInd Bank. In the previous session, Sensex tumbled 1,145.44 points or 2.25 per cent to close at 49,744.32, and Nifty sank 306.05 points or 2.04 per cent to finish at 14,675.70. Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 893.25 crore on Monday, as per exchange data. Domestic equities look to be good at the moment despite mixed cues from global markets, said Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities. Concerns pertaining to increase in bond yields and higher commodity prices dented investors' sentiments in the last couple of days. However, the underlying strength of the economy and market remains intact in our view and hence any further correction in the market should be used to buy, he said. He further added that Indian companies are likely to see sustained earnings recovery in subsequent fiscals and therefore premium valuations are likely to sustain. US equities extended losses in overnight trade on Monday as worries over continued rise in bond yields dampened investors' sentiments. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals, while Seoul was in the red. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.38 per cent higher at USD 65.25 per barrel.
