Maxx and HomeGoods, and charging viewers to buy items from them, in a new side hustle that's taking off on the social media platform. </p><p>One TikToker <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@anamolykb/video/7321515851713350958"><u>shared a video</u></a> this week explaining the new money-making trend. The video was first reported on by the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.dailydot.com/news/tj-maxx-personal-shoppers-tiktok-live/">Daily Dot</a>.</p><p>In the video, user @anamolykb, asked viewers: "Is personal shopping the new side hustle?" </p><p>She said: "So, apparently there's this thing where people go to T.J. Maxx, Ross, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Burlington Coat Factory and start a live. They go up and down the aisles picking up shit, and the people that are watching these lives are having these personal shoppers buy these various items for them." </p><p>She explained that sellers charge a "finders fee" — often between $10 or $15 — per store trip. Customers are also asked to cover shipping costs for these items and may not be able to get a refund if they aren't happy, she said.</p><p><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link c-link--focus-visible" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-go-live-on-tiktok">TikTok's livestreaming feature</a> allows users to record themselves in real time to an audience. Creators can also make money from livestreams by receiving virtual "gifts" from fans, which can then be converted into real money.</p><h2>'I live in the sticks so it's nice to have a personal shopper'</h2><p>Off-price stores like T.J. Maxx and Ross are known for offering a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tj-maxx-no-longer-secret-dumping-ground-brands-2023-11">treasure hunt shopping experience</a>. These chains buy excess goods from well-known and designer brands and sell these at a 20% to 60% discount; some brands also make items specifically for this channel.</p><p>But the assortment varies from store to store and there's generally a limited amount of stock in each style.</p><p>Shoppers need to be prepared to trawl through racks of jumbled brands and styles to find what they want. She said these items were available to buy directly from her.</p><p>Another user, Kayla, posted a video of herself <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@kaylag.1432/video/7309538661689871646?is_from_webapp=1&amp;sender_device=pc&amp;web_id=7156168240485582341">going shopping at T.J. Maxx</a> and filling up her trolley with Mean Girl branded blankets, Hello Kitty makeup brush sets, purses, and other items. The six-second video has been viewed over 1.5 million times, with hundreds of viewers agreeing that the shark — named Blåhaj — is indeed a work of genius. </p><p>Blåhaj, which is pronounced "blah-hah" and means "blue shark" in Swedish, is a meter-long cuddly toy told by IKEA. On the retailer's website it is described as "big and safe to have by your side if you want to discover the world below the surface of the ocean." </p> <p>Blåhaj was launched by IKEA in 2014, and posts of the shark doing human activities began to pop up on Tumblr soon after. He drew inspiration from online creator <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@realadamrose">Adam Rose</a>, who often makes TikToks showing sinister article headlines accompanied by the track "<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/music/Hell-2-da-Naw-242855113583751168">Hell 2 da Naw" by Bullwinkle Boyz</a>. Jian used the same sound in his video, and showed a <a href="https://mothership.sg/2022/01/ikeas-blahaj-vacuum-bags/">Mothership article with the headline "IKEA shark plushie tragically flattened to demonstrate usefulness of vacuum bags."</a> Jian then walks into the frame holding his Blåhaj, and reacts with shock, attempting to cover the shark's eyes. </p><p>His video has been viewed 1.2 million times, and Jian told Insider he first came across Blåhaj in high school, when his peers "got hyped over it" and began sharing memes online during the toy's original online fandom.</p> <p><a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@organisedbyjessica">Jessica</a>, 28 from Liverpool, UK, <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@organisedbyjessica/video/7016807367857753349?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;q=organisedbyjessica&amp;t=1644333467635">made a TikTok of her trip IKEA</a> last August when she and her boyfriend ended up coming home with three Blåhajs. In the video, which was viewed nearly 250,000 times, her new sharks are pushed around the store in a trolley, before being strapped into the backseat of a car as the voiceover says, "Safety first."</p><p>She said she was inspired to made bandanas for the sharks "so we could tell them all apart" by the many Twitter accounts dedicated to Blåhaj. </p><p>She told Insider, "We just think Blåhaj is super cute, and to be honest we did get a little carried away that day, but we have no regrets."</p> <h2><strong>Fans say the toy brings much-needed wholesome comfort to social media</strong></h2><p>When IKEA's <a href="https://www.insider.com/ikeas-discontinue-blahaj-shark-sent-chinese-social-media-into-meltdown-2021-10">UK support team tweeted</a> in September 2021 that the shark was "set to be discontinued from April 2022," fans started a <a href="https://www.change.org/p/ikea-save-the-blahaj-from-extinction">petition on change.org urging IKEA to reconsider and save Blåhaj from "extinction"</a>, which has garnered nearly 7,000 signatures to date. </p><p>The tweet has since been deleted, and an IKEA spokesperson told Insider that there are "no plans" to discontinue the toy, but that it's currently unavailable "due to ongoing supply issues," but the petition remains active. Since then, I've been running my one-women business successfully from home.</p><p>Here's what a typical day in my life looked like before the pandemic.</p><h2><strong>6:30 p.m.: My day begins when most people are finishing up work</strong></h2><p>I grab a coffee to go and drive to the location of my new installation. This day, it's a corporate office in a shopping centre. I usually drag my husband Michael along for the late night installations, as the extra pair of hands is very handy. For corporate jobs, timing is critical, as I'm working after hours with strict OHS requirements.</p><h2><strong>7:30 p.m.: I unload my equipment in the loading dock of the venue and wait for the security guards to let me in</strong></h2><p>I call myself a 'balloon tradie.' I often find I'm the only woman in a typically male-dominated environment, such as a loading dock, when I'm unloading my equipment (a scaffold ladder, trolley, inflators, and bags).</p><h2><strong>8 p.m.: At most late night installations, I'll grab a drink for a boost of caffeine</strong></h2><p>I often treat myself to bubble tea (Peach oolong is my favorite!) from the food court in the mall. I like to think that every little bit of extra caffeine helps.</p><h2><strong>9 p.m. to 3 a.m.: I get to work setting up the installation</strong></h2><p>I put on my apron, equipped with at least three pairs of scissors, duct tape, and fishing line, and set up my equipment.</p><p>This particular installation was bright and Instagrammable and included handmade streamers in addition to the balloons. I unfold the metallic streamer wall carefully and make sure no streamers have been crumpled in the drive over.</p><p>I construct the installation piece by piece using around three thousand balloons, which I inflate using two air compressors. This takes time, as the design is intricate. I'll pop on some Bruno Mars or some other high energy music to keep me motivated as the clock ticks past midnight. By the end of the install, my fingers will be throbbing.</p><p>Once I've put the finishing touches on and am satisfied with the final result, I take a photo of the installation on my phone and text the security guards to let them know my work is done so they can let me out of the mall. </p><h2><strong>4 a.m.: I arrive home, shower, and try to get to sleep</strong></h2><p>After I get home, I head straight for the shower. Sometimes when I get in bed, I'll still be energized from the night — and the caffeine — so it may take half an hour to finally shut my eyes.</p><h2><strong>12 p.m.: I wake up in time to meet friends for brunch</strong></h2><p>Many of my friends work in the creative industry with strange hours like mine, so I'm never short of someone to have breakfast with, followed by a quick walk along the coast. I love to be inspired by nature and always keep my eyes open for exciting color schemes, like a pop of peach coral against the azure ocean.</p><p>I check my phone frequently throughout the day to make sure that everything went well with the installation. On the off chance that something was damaged, I'll go back and fix it. </p><h2><strong>1:30 p.m.: I spend time at home catching up on emails and administrative work</strong></h2><p>It's time to log on and catch up on the business side of things, like invoicing or sending out new quotes. It's my least favorite part of the job. Occasionally, I'll take my laptop to a cafe with WiFi and indulge in a croissant. </p><h2><strong>6 p.m.: I hop into my car and head back out to take down the installation</strong></h2><p>Teardown is included in the cost of the installation to make sure I dispose of waste properly. I use biodegradable balloons, which break down at the same rate as a <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/287091785_Australian_Aboriginal_musical_instruments_The_didjeridu_the_bullroarer_and_the_gumleaf#:~:text=The%20gum%2Dleaf%2C%20as%20the,be%20used%20to%20play%20tunes.">gum leaf</a>. It's taken some time, but I've finally mastered the art of popping the balloons at the neck to eliminate that awful bang.</p><h2><strong>7:30 p.m.: It's finally time to unwind</strong></h2><p>I'm back in time for dinner, which is usually pasta home-cooked by my husband. Afterward, we'll head off for a walk with our black Labrador, Harper. If it's not too late when we return, we'll watch some Netflix, then it's lights out.</p>

It is our gym, workplace, playground and school for kids. With this, furniture brands had to relook at their product offerings to be able to address the changing consumer needs. <br /><br /><keyword id="6371031" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IKEA">IKEA</keyword> was quick to spot that COVID had made the furniture category move from being a want to becoming a need. The Swedosh furniture giant reminded consumers through its advertising campaign that ‘<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtjuBYxrozI">Home can be full of possibilities</a>.’ It encouraged people to stay at home, and explore their home by engaging in activities befitting each room. However, while buying new furniture to facilitate various remote activities became a necessity, consumers did not want to step out because it involved communicating with store helpers. <br /><br />So when IKEA decided to open its stores back in Hyderabad amidst the lockdown, it wasn’t an easy job. It involved rethinking retailing. It, therefore, launched a contactless way of shopping called ‘Click and Collect’ that allowed consumers to collect their order in the car parking area. Apart from that, contactless hand sanitizer machines, indicators on the floor for social distancing, physical barriers for extra safe shopping, queue management for line-ups, separation screens around sales points, cash registers and customer service points were installed to gain consumer trust. <br /><br />Kavitha‌ ‌Rao,‌ ‌Country‌ ‌Commercial‌ ‌Head,‌ ‌IKEA‌ ‌India‌, further walks us through the brand’s action plan for the Hyderabad launch, changing consumer patterns in the market, why it is important to listen to your consumer in the current situation, and find solutions that are not only easy to implement but also easy on the wallet.<br /><br />Excerpts: <br /><br /><strong>Q. How challenging were the last three months for you?</strong><br /><br />At IKEA, the health and safety of our customers, co-workers, suppliers and communities have been our biggest priority. Keeping this in mind, we closed our physical retail operations even before the government guidelines came out. As a business, we have had to redirect our focus to take care of our people, whether they are our coworkers, business partners or communities around us as we face this unprecedented global crisis together. <br /><br />It was clear that we need to understand what the future of retailing would look like, and begin to rethink the future and what innovations would be relevant in the post COVID era. We also realized, it was important to stay agile and adapt as things continue to evolve rapidly. <br /><br />During the lockdown, the ecommerce channel has been a big boon to consumers and businesses. With people spending a lot of time at home, home furnishing has become even more important and hence, we had to strengthen our online presence to reach many more people with home furnishing essentials they need during these times. ‘Click &amp; Collect’, a safe and contactless shopping service was launched in India in May to support our ecommerce business even better. We also launched an online personal shopper service to aid customers in their shopping journey online. In addition, remote planning and home furnishing consultancy supported our customers to plan and furnish their homes remotely.<br /><br />Caring for communities has been a big focus for us. To be people and planet positive is integrated in our business foundation. Globally we launched a relief fund of €26 million to support COVID-19 affected communities. In India, we have tied up with various organizations, and government to help vulnerable communities such as migrant families, children and women. IKEA India also helped setup quarantine centers in Hyderabad. We will continue to support communities in the long term.<br /><strong><br />Q. How have you observed the consumer behavior changing during these last few months? <br /></strong><br />The ‘home’ is always emotional. With our consumers spending all their time at home, it has acquired a whole new meaning; it is the new office, the new playground and school for children, the new restaurant and the new window to the world. While spending habits may not be the same as before, the need for home furnishing and furniture is amplified. This has given us a chance to explore innovative ways to offer products and solutions and address the consumer needs linked to home.<br /><br />Recent researches talk about 25-30% of consumers shopping online for the first time across categories, be it food, groceries, services, etc. A more forced-adoption of ecommerce is also leading to consumers discovering the convenience associated and the option is turning out to the preferred mode of shopping. <br /><br />Consumers are also more focused on their health and well-being and people are more conscious of leading an environment friendly and sustainable life at home. This will mean that brands paying attention to this trend will gain significantly.<br /><br />There are many needs at home today, but the economic uncertainty is not far behind. While a lot of the furniture and home furnishing solutions are moving from a want to a need, this is also the time when consumers are thinking twice about every spend. This is where affordable solutions become even more important. Being able to do more with less acquires a new meaning. Businesses that address this dimension of consumer sentiment are poised for growth. <br /><br /><strong>Q. What are some things that you think will never be the same, once we resume normalcy? <br /></strong><br />There are many factors that will evolve in a post COVID-19 world, and one of the foremost developments is people avoiding crowded places for a while to come. This could also mean that consumers make a more permanent shift to shopping online in some categories. We will also see an emergence of smart buying where customers will plan their shopping in advance and only purchase things that they need. With a likely decline in consumer spending in discretionary categories, value for money and affordable solutions will be a preferred option for consumers. Physical retailing could see some significant changes; consumers might not be keen to interact with store coworkers but might be more comfortable to shop using digital enablers – videos, QR codes and apps that demonstrate the features, tips and tricks, functionalities of a product; thereby substituting the coworker and help maintain social distancing. <br /><br /><strong>Q. As markets open up, how are you ensuring that your consumers start trusting you? </strong><br /><br />Safety of our coworkers and customers are our highest priority during these extraordinary times. To enable safe shopping, we launched <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/retail/ikea-restarts-india-operations-with-click--collect-in-hyderabad-5998791.htm">Click &amp; Collect</a>, first of its kind in India which is a totally contact less way of shopping. Customers can order IKEA products on our website, pay online and select the ‘Click &amp; Collect service’ option when checking out. IKEA's delivery team would prepare their order for them to pick up from the Click &amp; Collect collection station in the store’s car parking area. This has added to our ecommerce capability and provided more options to customers shopping online.<br /><br />We reopened the Hyderabad store earlier this month with strict safety protocols in place. We limit the number of customers allowed into the store at a given time and ensure strict social distancing norms. Contactless hand sanitizer machines, indicators on the floor for social distancing, physical barriers for extra safe shopping, queue management for line-ups, separation screens around sales points, cash registers and customer service points are in place to secure a safe shopping experience. All shopping bags and trolleys are sanitized after use. And customers are subjected to temperature checks and mandatory face masks to further heighten safety.<br /><br /><strong>Q. How do you see the retail sector shaping up? What would its future look like? Do you think e-comm will take precedence? <br /></strong><br />E-Commerce will emerge as a preferred channel for shopping for a vast majority of consumers across a wide range of categories. Physical retailing will see a reduction in shopping trips, but the trips that happen will be well planned and focused. This would also mean window shopping and impulse purchases are likely to reduce. <br /><br />When it comes to discretionary spends, consumers are likely to cut back on spending. A lot will depend on value for money and affordable products and solutions that retailers are able to bring together to address consumer needs. For example, a family might decide to postpone the purchase of a new sofa but might be open to updating the curtains and cushions to refresh the living room. Retailers will need to identify these pockets of opportunity and address consumers’ needs in the best possible manner across dimensions of value for money, good quality and design.<br /><br />Retail sale campaigns of the future could look different. Consumers might not be swayed by discounts offered as window shopping and impulse purchases are likely to decline due to the economic implications of the COVID crisis. Addressing a consumer need with value for money products and solutions might become more important than a deep discount.<br /><br /><strong>Q. Has the current situation made you innovate and think out of the box, in terms of how you communicate with your consumers? What does your marketing strategy look like?</strong> <br /><br />In tune with our vision ‘To create a better everyday life for many people’, as a brand, we always side with the many people, the common man as we know them in India. We always want to reflect empathy and togetherness with our customers, co-workers and communities. We also believe that ‘everyday life’ matters much more than the one-off excitement that could be few and far between. With that, our aim is and continues to be- to create a better life by offering a wide range of functional, well designed, affordable home furnishing solutions that can meet the needs of a diverse section of people with varying needs, wishes and dreams linked to their home. <br /><br />The COVID crisis is unprecedented and has required us to rethink the future and reinvent ourselves across many dimensions. When it comes to our marketing communication, we continue to side with the many people on relevant themes. During the lockdown period, we launched two campaigns that focused on people and their lives during COVID-19. The ‘<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtjuBYxrozI">Home is full of possibilities</a>’ campaign encourages people to stay at home, and explore their home by engaging in activities befitting each room. And on account of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexxism, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), we launched <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbPo0Q4WoAc">#BeSomeonesHome</a> campaign as our outreach to LGBTQI individuals whose families may not be with them in these times of crisis. <br /><br />IKEA is a relatively new brand in India and we will continue to work towards building the brand for the long term with key messages linked to everyday life at home and how IKEA can help make it a little bit better with our range of products and solutions that stand for design, quality, affordability and can support a more sustainable life at home. Through our messages, we will always connect with people as people more than as consumers. <br /><strong><br />Q. What is your media plan going to be now? Which medium will get the lion's share? </strong><br /><br />As a brand, we side with the many people and hence we need to reach a very diverse audience; we will continue to focus on all the key media options ranging from out of home, TV, OTT channels, digital to print media. The media landscape has evolved significantly in the last decade with digital options taking a lead and we will look to have a good balance of digital and conventional media options. In the post COVID world, we do see people consuming entertainment at home and that is a new and interesting space to explore.<br /><br /><strong>Q. What are some of the key learnings from this experience?</strong><br /><br />The COVID pandemic has caused a major health crisis across the world and the intensity and duration of the economic crisis that will follow is still unclear.<br /><br />It is important to stay agile and be quick to adapt to changing conditions that the crisis can present. Businesses in general need to use this opportunity to think of new ideas that can enable profitable growth in the future. As a home furnishing retailer, we see that the home has become even more important, but that does not mean people have the money to spend on refurnishing their homes, even though they might have an acute need to do so; this makes it even more important to find solutions that are not only easy to implement but also easy on the wallet.<br /><br />In addition, retailers also need to focus even more on their co-workers as they are in the lead in delivering a great customer experience, both online and in the store. Building a mindset of resilience amongst coworkers and empowering them to innovate and adapt to new ways of working is a great enabler to growth.<br /><br />It is only by remaining open to change, collaborating, understanding and adapting to consumer sentiments and trends, can we help create a new narrative for the future. A new narrative that will help us meet consumer need and enable the much-needed growth for our businesses.<br />

How IKEA executed contactless retailing to open its stores in Hyderabad amid a lockdown

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Many people think sweet <keyword id="6399610" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Potatoes">potatoes</keyword> are healthier than white potatoes, but this is incorrect, according to dietitians.</li><li>Both forms of potato have practically the same calories, protein, fat, carbohydrate, and fiber content, registered dietitian nutritionist <a href="https://www.thenutritiontea.com/">Shana Spence</a> told Insider.</li><li>Sweet potatoes are slightly higher in vitamins A and C, but white ones have more potassium, registered consultant dietitian <a href="https://dietitianro.co.uk/">Ro Huntriss</a> confirmed.</li><li>Both foods are nutritious, and cutting out white potatoes if you enjoy them is actually unhealthy, registered dietitian <a href="http://www.withfoodincommon.com/">Eling Tsai MPH RD</a> told Insider.</li></ul><p>When trying to improve one's diet, many people think they need to cut out potatoes. </p><p>White potatoes, some of us have been led to believe, are fattening carb-bombs that should be shunned at all costs, especially if you're trying to lose weight.</p><p><keyword id="1476505" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sweet-potato">Sweet potato</keyword>es, on the other hand, are halo superfoods that will turn you into a beacon of <keyword id="6354750" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health">health</keyword>, we're often told. A burger is transformed into a low-cal meal by the addition of sweet potato rather than regular <keyword id="177068" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Fries">fries</keyword> on the side, right?</p><p>Well, not quite. Not at all, in fact.</p><p>Three dietitians explained to Insider how the nutritional profiles of sweet and white potatoes are very similar, and they're calling for people to stop demonizing the latter.</p><h2>The calorie difference between sweet and white potatoes is negligible</h2><p>If you want to lose weight, you need to be <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-to-lose-fat-build-muscle-simultaneously-weight-loss-tips-2020-6">in a calorie deficit</a>.</p><p>Given there's only a tiny calorie difference between white and sweet potatoes, which one you choose won't really play any role in your <keyword id="6358794" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="weight-loss">weight loss</keyword> progress.</p><p>While 100g of sweet potato contains around 98 calories, 100g of white baking potato contains roughly 107 calories, according to the nutritional profiles on UK grocery store <a href="https://www.tesco.com/">Tesco</a>'s website — other listings suggest different figures, but whichever measurement you use, the figures are always similar.</p><h2>They have roughly the same macronutrient profiles and fiber content</h2><p>If you're into your fitness and <keyword id="52652" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="nutrition">nutrition</keyword>, you might be interested in tracking your macros (the three macronutrients are protein, fat, and carbs). And guess what? There's a negligible difference between the potatoes on that front too.</p><p>Sweet potatoes contain roughly 1.2g protein, 21.3g carbs, and 0.3g fat per 100g, and white potatoes contain 2.5g protein, 22.6g carbs, and 0.5g fat per 100g.</p><p>Fiber is also commonly tracked when people are looking to improve their diet and digestion, but again, the numbers are largely the same.</p><p>Registered dietitian <a href="http://www.withfoodincommon.com/">Eling Tsai MPH RD</a> told Insider: "They have comparable amounts of fiber — the average sweet potato only has roughly 1g more fiber than the average white potato."</p><p><div type="image" title="eling tsai 1.JPG" height="1624" width="2436" msid="76409830" hostid="261"></div></p><p>And registered dietitian nutritionist <a href="https://www.thenutritiontea.com/">Shana Spence</a> MS, RDN, CDN agreed: "Both are pretty comparable as far as calories, carbs, fat, magnesium, and fiber."</p><p>Spence recommends leaving the skin on whichever potato you choose to ensure you get all that fiber.</p><h2>White and sweet potatoes have differing micronutrient profiles</h2><p>Where the two forms of potato do differ somewhat, however, is in their micronutrient breakdowns, meaning vitamins and minerals. </p><p>"The main differences between white and sweet potatoes are the vitamins and minerals," Spence said.</p><p>"People are under the impression that sweet potatoes are healthier because they are orange. We have heard that 'white foods' are bad which is not true."</p><p><div type="image" title="Shana Spence 2" height="1737" width="2316" msid="76409834" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The vibrant orange hue of a sweet potato is due to it being higher in vitamin A, and they also have more vitamin C, Spence, Tsai, and registered consultant dietitian <a href="https://dietitianro.co.uk/">Ro Huntriss</a> confirmed to Insider.</p><p>White potatoes, however, are slightly higher in potassium.</p><p>"Both white potatoes and sweet potatoes are nutritious foods," added Huntriss.</p><p>"They both provide us with energy, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, but their nutrient profiles vary." </p><h2>Sweet potatoes are lower GI and count as one of your five a day</h2><p>You may have been told that sweet potatoes will keep you fuller for longer than white potatoes, and there is some truth to this because they typically have a lower glycemic index (GI).</p><p>This means that their glucose (energy) is released more slowly than that of white potatoes, according to Huntriss.</p><p><div type="image" title="Ro Huntriss 1.JPG" height="1600" width="1600" msid="76409837" hostid="261"></div></p><p>It's worth noting, however, that the glycemic index of a <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Food">food</keyword> also depends on how it's cooked.</p><p>"The other notable difference is that sweet potatoes are counted towards your five-a-day [portions of fruit and vegetables] whereas white potatoes are considered a starchy food, but remember that starchy carbohydrates are still a valuable food group," Huntriss added.</p><h2>Stop thinking of 'good' vs 'bad' foods</h2><p>Ultimately, all three dietitians believe it's important we stop demonizing white potatoes — both forms are nutritious, and it's certainly not a case of a "good" and "bad" type.</p><p>"They are both healthy choices in their own right, and can both play a part in a well-balanced diet," Huntriss said.</p><p>Of course, when it comes to weight management, how you cook your potato will drastically change the calorie count: fries or buttery mash will both be higher in calories than simply boiled spuds or a baked potato.</p><p><div type="image" title="sweet potato fries" height="1414" width="2121" msid="76409841" hostid="261"></div></p><p>But that doesn't mean they're "bad."</p><p>"Neither a baked potato nor <keyword id="9412935" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="sweet-potato-fries">sweet potato fries</keyword> should be labeled as a 'bad' food," said Huntriss.</p><p>"They can both be consumed as part of a well-balanced diet. Considerations to take include portion size and cooking methods, as these factors will contribute to their overall nutritional provision."</p><h2>Placing a ban on white potatoes is unhealthy</h2><p>In fact, if you actively enjoy white potatoes, preventing yourself from eating them is unhealthy from a behavioral point of view as it's a sign of an unhealthy relationship with food.</p><p>"In their raw form, sweet potatoes and white potatoes don't differ that significantly when it comes to nutrition, and so it'd be misguided to think that always eating sweet potatoes (in whatever form) over white potatoes is a form of eating healthfully," said Tsai.</p><p>She said that labeling food as "good" or "bad" can strengthen disordered eating patterns or food-related anxiety.</p><p><div type="image" title="baked potato" height="1416" width="2118" msid="76409844" hostid="261"></div></p><p>"Instead, let your hunger and fullness levels and personal preferences at any given moment guide how you want to eat," Tsai advised.</p><p>"Drop the 'good' and 'bad' labels, and think in terms of fullness and satisfaction.</p><p>"The more we neutralize and normalize all foods, the less likely we are to partake in cycles of restricting and then overeating specific foods.</p><p>"I would argue that this cycle is what is actually harmful — not eating white carbohydrates as part of a balanced diet."</p><h2>Eat whichever potato you enjoy</h2><p>Ultimately, you should eat whichever form of potato you enjoy and fancy on any given day. And do away with any negative feelings that may come with your choice.</p><p>"I want people not to be scared of eating foods they enjoy in general," said Spence.</p><p>"If you prefer regular french fries to sweet potato fries, eat the regular ones.
