It was expected that Ishan could retain his place, given his youth and experience with the franchise. Aged just 26, he had spent seven seasons with the franchise and did reasonably well. However, after being brought for Rs 15.25 crores ahead of 2022 season, the price tag seemed to have caught up with Kishan. In next 44 matches for the franchise till the 2024-season-end, Kishan scored 1,192 runs in 43 innings at an average of 28.98, with just seven fifties. While these numbers are not bad, it could be debatable that he did not deliver as per expectations, with 19 scores being below 20. In the 2024 season, he could score just 320 runs at an average of just over 22, with just a fifty to his name. After being excluded from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract this year after not participating for red-ball cricket, this is another big setback for Kishan, who has not been considered for international cricket despite participating and doing well in red-ball tournaments like Buchi Babu Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy recently. <h2>DC era 2.0 on cards?</h2> With wicketkeeper-batter and biggest superstar of the franchise, Pant released from the franchise and looking for a new franchise as per several media reports, Delhi Capitals could be moving to their 2.0 era, placing trust in young, under-the radar names like Axar Patel (235 runs with two fifties and 11 wickets in 2024), Tristan Stubbs (378 runs with three fifties and three wickets), Abhishek Porel (327 runs with two fifties) and Kuldeep Yadav (16 wickets at an average of 23.25) after good performances last year. Franchise has also released big time stars like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw. Could this be the start of a new era for DC? Only time will tell. <h2>Shreyas Iyer joins unfortunate list of captains</h2>The IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer has been let go after winning the title for his franchise KKR this year, their first in a decade and overall third. While many argue his batting stats of 351 runs in 14 innings with two fifties at a strike rate of 146.86 could be a reason behind his release, the other half of the story is that the in-form KKR top-order did not leave the middle-order with much to do. His recurring fitness issues, which caused him to miss 2023 season, also could be a reason. Irrespective of what the reason could be, one thing is for sure, Iyer is up there with likes of Adam Gilchrist (released by Deccan Chargers in 2011 after title win in 2009, semifinal finish in 2010), David Warner (released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of 2022 season despite 2016 title win and multiple playoff finishes) as one of the most unluckiest captains in IPL. <h2>Strong faith in Indian uncapped/inexperienced stars</h2>The franchises have been extremely bold this time around, opting to release experienced, household Indian/overseas names and placing their trust in several Indian uncapped/inexperienced players. Out of a total of 46 players retained across all franchises, 36 players are Indian. Out of these, 10 players are uncapped Indians stars. These players are Abhishek Porel, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Dayal. Also, out of other 24 capped Indians, 13 players have played less than 30 international matches and eight have played 10 or less international games for India. Of these 24 uncapped players, no one has all format experience for India and only two have Test cricket experience, Dhruv Jurel and <keyword id="20022019" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajat-patidar" source="keywords">Rajat Patidar</keyword>. Notably, it is Jurel, who has just played international matches for India, who has received the biggest pay hike, going from Rs 20 lakh this season to Rs 14 crores next season. <h2>End of 'KGF' era for Royal Challengers Bengaluru?</h2> With stars like Faf and Maxwell released, it could spell the end of 'Kohli, Glenn, Faf' (KGF) era for <keyword id="20282652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rcb" source="keywords">RCB</keyword>, which lasted from 2022-24. If RCB had Virat-AB de Villiers-Chris Gayle in 2010s, KGF dominated the RCB batting numbers in 2020s. When RCB starts rebuilding their side from scratch in the auction, they would have a huge task in hand of finding one or two highly popular, capable and consistent foreign stars to help Virat unleash the carnage in a "Play Bold" avatar. South Africa T20I team arrives in New Delhi ahead of five-match series against India

Their three-game winning streak snapped after a loss to Punjab Kings, five-time champions Mumbai Indians will look to address their poor death over bowling when they take on a resurgent Gujarat Titans in their IPL match here on Tuesday. Tristan Fewings/Getty ImagesTransferring QSBS to trusts can ensure your kids are set for life.<ul class="summary-list"><li>Startup founders can combine a newly-powerful tax perk with clever estate planning to make their children rich - if they know one of Silicon's Valley's big secrets.</li><li>Transferring your Qualified Small Business Stock, or QSBS, to trusts can allow each of your kids, along with you, to avoid capital gains taxes on up to $10 million in profits or 10 times the original investment, whichever is bigger.</li><li>"It's the best opportunity in a long time, and it's not that hard to take advantage of," Robert Keebler, a leading tax advisor and estate planner, told Business Insider.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/prime?module=article&amp;area=summary">Click here for more BI Prime stories.</a></li></ul>Savvy entrepreneurs who nurture startups from unprofitable infancy to a lucrative exit can ensure that their own children reap the reward.Thanks to a lesser-known tax perk known as Qualified Small Business Stock, or QSBS, early startup shareholders can avoid paying long-term capital gains taxes when they eventually sell their company. And in what might be one of the startup world's biggest tax secrets, many founders' children can get that exact same benefit - if their entrepreneur parents plan properly.The QSBS perk erases federal capital gains tax on up to $10 million in profits or up to 10 times the original investment, whichever turns out to be bigger when you sell your startup and its underlying shares. That means your payout can potentially be a big multiple of $10 million. And instead of paying to Uncle Sam 23.8% (which includes 3.8% for Obamacare), all of that money stays in your wallet.A few states, including California, don't recognize the perk; the home of Silicon Valley levies a 13.3% state income tax when QSBS shares are sold. Still, there are no federal taxes due on those California sales, making QSBS one of the most lucrative tax loopholes around."If an accountant doesn't tell you about QSBS, it's grounds for malpractice," said Christopher Karachale, a tax partner at Hanson Bridgett in San Francisco.Even better, by using certain types of trusts, a founder can replicate that tax-free bonanza for his or her heirs. That's right: Just like you, your toddlers can one day owe zero federal taxes on potentially millions of dollars of profits."That's the beauty of this whole thing," said Michael Shaff, a lawyer who chairs the tax and estate-planning practice at Stubbs Alderton &amp; Markiles in Sherman Oaks, CA.<h2>The tax care and feeding of a young startup</h2>The rules for getting the tax benefit of QSBS are prickly, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/qsbs-startups-qualified-small-business-stock-works-investors-federal-state-taxes-2019-12">as Business Insider has previously detailed</a>. A startup has to issue stock early in its life, when it has $50 million or less in gross assets. It has to be a C corporation, and be in a "qualified trade or business" - generally technology and life sciences - or be an operating company that's not in law, finance, medicine, accounting, oil and gas, or another "service" or extraction industry.You have to acquire your QSBS stock when it was originally issued and hold on to it for at least five years before selling - unless you swap it out after six months for qualifying stock in another startup."I'm seeing a ton of structuring and planning now," said Michael Spiro, chair of the tax group at Finn Dixon &amp; Herling in Stamford, CT.The reason: The QSBS tax break became much more lucrative thanks to the 2017 tax cuts. "Here in California, almost all the founders are thinking about QSBS - early employees as well," Karachale said.<h2>'Stacking' with trusts multiplies the already-lucrative QSBS benefit</h2>Here's one way it works. Say you own QSBS in a software company that you started. You set up a separate trust for each of your three young children, and you put QSBS valued at $2 million into each. Seven years later, you sell the company, making each kid's original $2 million worth $16 million.Remember, you can avoid capital gains tax on up to $10 million in profits or 10 times your basis (the amount of cash you paid for the stock, or the value of assets or services you contributed in exchange for the stock) - whichever is the larger outcome upon exit. That's key, because it means that an individual's tax-free payout can easily exceed $10 million. In this example, 10 times basis is the larger value for each kid ($2 million x 10 = $20 million). So each child can pocket that $16 million free of capital gains tax, with all three collectively hauling in $48 million.While a founder could avoid using a trust and simply gift his QSBS to his young child, "you generally don't just give a seven-year-old shares" without the strings and protection that come with a trust, said Joshua Azran, an accountant in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Encino who caters to startups, early-stage companies, and investment funds.Tax planners call the use of trusts with QSBS "stacking," or multiplying the tax benefit so that more than one person gets it. While estate planners say it's most commonly used for children, founders can also use it for a spouse or other family members. Stacking depends upon using irrevocable trusts, for which the donor gives up control."People in the know are doing this, because it can really multiply your tax savings," said Sean Condon, a wealth advisor at Windgate Wealth Management in Chicago.Noelle Minto, an estate planning lawyer in Tustin, CA, told Business Insider that she has several clients who have done the move. One, a husband and wife that own a small business, set up trusts for their two young-adult sons.They put a 49.5% chunk of their QSBS into each trust, keeping the 1% voting stock for themselves. Each son's chunk was appraised at $2.5 million at the time of the transfer, so the parents moved $5 million out of their estate - well below their lifetime exclusion. But the company has grown, and those chunks are each now worth $8 million. As a result, "they've moved $16 million out of their estate, and have used only $5 million of their lifetime exemption," Minto said.<h2>WINGs, DINGs, NINGs, and things</h2>That's especially lucrative because the <a href="https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-tax/2017-tax-law-weakens-estate-tax-benefiting-wealthiest-and-expanding-avoidance">2017 tax law</a> doubled the estate and gift tax limits - this year, individuals can give their heirs a tax-free $11.58 million from their estates before their death. Married couples can pass on $23.16 million. The higher limits are supposed to expire in 2026.For founders who expect gains well above their exemption level, there's also a trick. By putting QSBS into a so-called incomplete gift non-grantor trust, or ING, a founder can sidestep those exemptions, leaving plenty of room to pass on more assets down the road. ING trusts are known as WINGs, DINGs, and NINGs, for the states (Wisconsin, Delaware, and Nevada) in which they're usually set up. Those states don't tax trust assets, allowing beneficiaries to avoid California state tax if they no longer live in the state when they take assets out of the trust.Paul Lee, global fiduciary strategist at Northern Trust, along with peers from Goldman Sachs, McDermott Will &amp; Emery, and Andersen Tax, argue in a <a href="https://media.law.miami.edu/heckerling/2019/Supplemental%20Materials/II-A.pdf">2019 PowerPoint</a> that the ING trust move is kosher for preserving the QSBS tax break.But Keebler, who runs a tax consulting and accounting firm in Green Bay, WI, argues that the move could be risky because of "grey areas." The issue, he told Business Insider, is that because the rules for QSBS define "gift" generically, "it gets tricky" when putting QSBS as an "incomplete gift" into an ING trust.<h2>'Juicing' your QSBS to fuel dynastic wealth</h2>Startup founders typically acquire stock in their companies at a very low cost. So what happens if you got your QSBS for next to nothing but eventually sell your startup for $20 million? You'd be able to avoid capital gains taxes on only $10 million of those profits, because the $10 million limit is a higher value than your next-to-nothing stock basis when multiplied by 10.But there's a solution to that problem. By putting high-value assets into a startup in exchange for QSBS, you can legally "juice" things to exceed the $10 million threshold, thus increasing the tax-free payout, according to Spiro.Here's an example: Say a founder assigns $10 million of goodwill - an accounting term for intangible assets like brand name, managerial prowess, and sweat equity - to the balance sheet of a startup whose QSBS he acquired for virtually nothing. After five years, he sells the company for $100 million. While he would owe capital gains tax on the $10 million in goodwill, due to special IRS rules on property exchanges, he wouldn't owe federal tax on the $90 million in profit.For that move to work, Spiro said, you have to make sure you have an independent appraisal done of the goodwill as it's contributed. No making up random big numbers.By contrast, if the founder hadn't "packed" in goodwill on the balance sheet when he sold his company for $100 million, he would hit the $10 million limit first. That's because he acquired the QSBS stock for virtually nothing, and multiplying it by 10 still results in virtually nothing - obviously far less than $10 million.
