Under the GST regime, state governments were guaranteed a 14% annual growth in tax revenue for five years starting 2015-16. Any shortfall would be filled in by funds from the Centre. Included in the GST promises were, “in case the amount in the GST Compensation Fund fell short of the compensation payable in any bimonthly period, the GST Council shall decide the mode of raising additional resources including borrowing from the market which could be repaid by collection of cess in the sixth year, or subsequent years.” The problem is very simple. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s tribute to the late Arun Jaitley is also coming ahead of a tough GST Council meeting where states will ask for money

The mortal remains of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday reached the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters from his residence in Kailash Colony here for people to pay their tributes. The BJP stalwart's mortal remains reached the party headquarters in a military vehicle decked with flowers at around 10.58 a.m. Several BJP leaders and family members accompanied the convoy carrying Jaitley's mortal remains. Senior party leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, paid tribute to Jaitley by offering flowers to his body packed in a red colour casket. Jaitley's mortal remains were kept at the Central Hall of the BJP headquarters where it will be kept till around 2 p.m., and then it will be moved to Nigam Bodh Ghat for the last rites, party sources told IANS. Jaitley passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Saturday due to a prolonged illness. He was 66. The last rites of India's former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be performed today

New Delhi, Dec 28 () The Finance Ministry will organise a conference 'Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture' on March 20 next year to pay tribute to the former finance minister.
Jaitley, who as the finance minister ushered in India's biggest tax reforms and was the chief trouble-shooter of the BJP and the Modi government, had died on August 24 after battling multiple health issues for the last several months.
"The @FinMinIndia to hold Shri. Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture. The first of this annual program will be on Friday, 20 March 2020. An Economists Conclave shall be held the next day. Eminent economists shall be invited. Grateful to @PMOIndia for consenting to launch this event," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a tweet on Saturday.
"Honoured to announce this on Shri Jaitley's birthday, today. Thankful to Shri. @narendramodi to have come up with this thought and to have given it a structure. The Lecture and the Conclave shall hopefully be a fitting tribute to Shri. Arun Jaitley and his inspiring leadership," she added.
From being the BJP government's key political strategist to managing the crucial finance portfolio, Jaitley wore many hats.

Airtel stock is getting knocked down as investors fear it may have to pay Videocon's dues

Tesla and SpaceX CEO <keyword id="6355315" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="elon-musk">Elon Musk</keyword> is all set to reveal a key update on his brain-machine interface company <keyword id="4345587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="neuralink">Neuralink</keyword> this week and may announce human trials for the technology that has been successful on mice and even apes. While the whole agenda is still speculative, a live demonstration of neuron firing activity is confirmed. "Will show neurons firing in real-time on August 28th. The matrix in the matrix," Musk tweeted last month. Musk has also claimed that a new Neuralink chip will allow users to hear sounds that previously were impossible to human ears. He confirmed the new feature last month over an exchange with a Twitter user who asked: "If we implement Neuralink - can we listen to music directly from our chips? Great feature." Musk replied with a simple, "yes". He also confirmed that the chip would be able to control hormone levels, which would have the potential to help with anxiety relief, among other things. To help paralysed people control devices and empower people with brain disorders, Neuralink last year unveiled tiny brain "threads" in a chip which is long lasting, usable at home and has the potential to replace cumbersome devices currently used as brain-machine interfaces. In February this year, Musk promised an "awesome" update by Neuralink. "The profound impact of high bandwidth, high precision neural interfaces is underappreciated. Neuralink may have this in a human as soon as this year," Musk had tweeted. "Wait until you see the next version vs what was presented last year. It's awesome," he added. The technology has a module that sits outside the head, behind the ear, and receives information from "threads" embedded in the brain. Controlled by an iPhone app, the chip called "N1 sensor" with just a USB port coming out can have as many as 3,072 electrodes per array distributed across 96 "threads" -- each "thread" smaller than the tiniest human hair. The chip which will be wireless in the future can read, transmit high-volume data and amplify signals from the brain. "This has the potential to solve several brain-related diseases. The idea is to understand and treat brain disorders, preserve and enhance your own brain and create a well-aligned future," Musk told the audience at the launch event last year. Musk founded Neuralink in 2016 but has only held one major public presentation. However, more details about Neuralink will be presented at an event on August 28. Balaji Telefilms opens 4% higher Balaji Telefilms shares gained nearly 4% after the government announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) for resuming shooting of films and TV programmes. Future Retail down nearly 4% The shares of Kishore Biyani-led Future Retail were down nearly 4% as the company faces a debt repayment deadline after missing an interest payment of $14 million in July. The 30-day grace period also ended on August 22. Reliance Industries up over 1% RIL gained nearly a percent after the company concluded amalgamation and merger amongst its wholly-owned subsidiaries Reliance Holdings USA into Reliance Energy Generation and Distribution. Union Bank gains nearly 3% Union Bank shares were up nearly 3% after the bank reported a 48.3% increase in net profit for the first quarter ended June 30. The poet-turned revolutionary was born in 1897, in the North-Western Provinces of the erstwhile British India. He was one of the many who sowed seeds for an independent India, which was then under British rule.  The Mastermind The firebrand activist and Arya Samaji Bismil was the mastermind behind the famous Kakori Conspiracy. He and his band looted the British government treasury from the Saharanpur-Lucknow Passenger Train on August 9, 1925. A detailed account of this event was published in Bismil’s autobiography, ‘Kakori ke Saheed’ (The Martyrs of Kakori), which was published by Ganesh Shanker Vidyarth in 1928. Eventually, Bismil was convicted for involvement in the robbery, and hanged along with others on December 19, 1927 in Gorakhpur in UP. This hero who attained a cult status, had planned many such Robin Hood-like expeditions. One such is the Mainpuri Conspiracy where he planned to raise funds for his revolutionary organisation Matrivedi, by robbing from various locations. Bismil also had an artistic side as published a collection of his poems ‘Man ki Lehar’ (A Sally of mInd) and ‘Swadeshi Rang’ (Colours of Freedom).
