"The more it replicates, the more chances it has to mutate." Though he agrees with the CDC's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cdc.gov/flu/avianflu/inhumans.htm">assessment</a> that the current risk to humans is low, Adams fears the US is repeating many mistakes it made in the early days of COVID-19. <h2>Weak messaging with no clear leaders</h2>Who is in charge of an animal pandemic in the US? The CDC? The US Department of Agriculture? The FDA? The answer is, sort of, all of them. That decentralized responsibility could be behind the lack of widespread, clear public messaging so far. For example, Adams says he hasn't changed anything about his diet, since pasteurization and proper cooking procedures should kill any live virus present. But he isn't sure everyone is getting the message. It's those groups who need strong, targeted guidance right now, Adams said. <h2>Only testing the sick</h2>So far, the USDA has only been testing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/beef-prices-higher-drought-fewer-cattle-less-meat-2022-8">cattle herds</a> when an animal appears sick. That means asymptomatic spread could be flying under the radar. "An animal can't tell you, 'Hey, I feel a little under the weather today.' So they're literally waiting until an animal is collapsing or showing fatigue or showing severe symptoms," Adams said. "We need a testing strategy that is proactive and allows true surveillance, and not reactive." The USDA took a step forward on Wednesday, ordering that all lactating dairy cows must be tested for H5N1 before they're moved across state lines and that all positive test results must be reported. New York Times columnist Zeynep Tufekci <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/24/opinion/bird-flu-cow-outbreak.html">reported</a> that same day that, until now, the USDA has not been keeping track of positive test results in cattle. <h2>Election distraction</h2> <div type="image" title="donald trump" height="3333" width="5000" msid="109603134" hostid="261"></div>In late 2019 and early 2020, the big news story was the impeachment, and later acquittal, of President Trump. And, as in 2020, this is an election year. "The Biden administration, particularly the White House, has been incredibly quiet on this bird flu situation. Why? To me, it looks like they very much don't want to scare the public and spook the economy in an election year," Adams said. <h2>Business vs. public health</h2>Just like the lockdowns of COVID-19 were devastating for the restaurant and hospitality industries, a crackdown on avian flu can be devastating to the chicken industry. Even before that, just testing the flock can slow down production. "We're seeing the same tension between business interests and public health interests," Adams said. What's more, many of the workers who handle chickens and cattle are undocumented immigrants. That can make them and their bosses hesitant to call in authorities over diseased animals. Many vulnerable groups were hesitant to report illness in the early COVID days, too, including migrant workers and people who didn't have sick leave from work. "My concern is we keep making the same mistakes over and over again," Adams said. "Because we keep focusing on the wrong things instead of focusing on the root causes."

ATL has submitted its detailed plan and targets for GHG emission reduction to SBTi within one year towards its commitment to contribute to contain global warming. As a part of its continued focus on sustainable growth and its net zero journey, ATL committed for the SBTi in October 2021. ATL will act in alignment with the much-needed climate action and devise a strategy to restrict global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius. To meet these targets associated with the SBTi commitment, ATL has rolled out definite strategies. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, ATL's subsidiary AEML (Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd) has introduced green tariffs, which enables AEML consumers to opt for green energy and receive a Green Power Certificate every month. This initiative is popular with consumers who wish to reduce their carbon footprint. "We take seriously all initiatives focused on contributing to India's climate commitment through resolute climate action," said <keyword id="175186" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="anil-sardana" source="Orion">Anil Sardana</keyword>, MD &amp; CEO, Adani Transmission Ltd. Signing up for the SBTi is an important step in the context of India's commitments to the Paris Climate Agreement. ATL became a signatory of UN Energy Compact at COP26 held in Glasgow in 2021. Through SBTi, companies are setting science-based emissions reduction targets - across their entire value chain - that are consistent with keeping global warming at 1.5 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels. SBTi committed companies get 24 months to submit their targets. ATL, after committing to SBTi in Oct 2021, is one of the few companies to submit the emission reduction targets within one year. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Deep Sea Vision last month said its recent sonar scans might show Amelia Earhart's long-lost plane.</li><li>Nauticos, a competing ocean-tech company, argues DSV's scans probably don't show the mysterious wreck.</li></ul>The race is on to find the wreckage of Amelia Earhart's ill-fated final flight.The search has lured deep-pocketed American investors as they attempt to solidify their legacy by solving one of the world's most persistent mysteries.Last month, Deep Sea Vision, a South Carolina marine-robotics company created by Tony Romeo, a pilot who was a US Air Force intelligence officer, captured an image using sonar from a high-tech unmanned submersible that he believes reveals the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sonar-image-pilot-amelia-earhart-plane-found-pacific-ocean-2024">crash site of Earhart's distinctive plane</a>.Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan were attempting to fly around the world in 1937 when the pair went missing somewhere over the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island, a small unincorporated territory of the US about halfway between Hawaii and Australia.Both were declared dead by 1939. But then we're thinking: 'How do we lift the plane? How do we salvage it?'"Nauticos, a competing ocean-tech company known for its participation in discovering the site of the sunken I-52, a World War II deep-water Japanese submarine, has spent decades hunting for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/plane-crash-missing-amelia-earhart-found-wreckage-disappearance-submersible-discovered-2024-1">Earhart's Lockheed Electra 10E</a>. The company, having conducted similar searches of the ocean floor that span an area roughly the size of Connecticut, has cast doubt on Romeo's claims."Yes, the sonar target appears to have a fuselage, wings, and a tail, but…it appears to have swept wings, the relative dimensions do not match the Electra, and there is a lack of engine nacelles," read a statement released by <a target="_blank" href="https://nauticos.com/response-to-deep-sea-visions-sonar-target-in-the-search-for-amelia-earhart/">Nauticos</a> in response to Romeo's recent findings. "Those characteristics are not consistent with a Lockheed Electra 10E."<div type="image" title="A map of the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island, where explorers have searched for the wreckage of Amelia Earhart's last flight." height="960" width="1280" msid="107471295" hostid="261" sizebytes="122314"></div>While Nauticos said any objects resembling aircraft in the vicinity of Howland Island have the potential to be Earhart's Electra and should be positively identified, previous discoveries in the area that were believed to be connected to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amelia-earhart-disappearance-explained-photo-national-archives-history-2017-7">Earhart's disappearance</a> have turned out to be as innocuous as coils of cable on the sea floor.Jeff Morris, the project manager behind Nauticos' Amelia Earhart Project, told BI he remains "highly skeptical" that Romeo's target could be the real crash site, largely due to its location.<h2>A re-created radio system</h2>Since Nauticos began its search efforts in 2001, the company had been slowly locating and purchasing the components to re-create Earhart's entire <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-pilots-willing-challenge-us-risky-intercepts-former-naval-aviator-2023-11">radio system</a>, finally getting a big break in 2018 when a key component — the Western Electric 13C transmitter — was found at a swap meet."As far as anybody else knows, there is no other unit in the world that still exists," Morris said.<div type="image" title="The aircraft radio receiver was recreated by Nauticos in their research regarding Earhart's final transmissions." height="1388" width="2089" msid="107471296" hostid="261" sizebytes="111560"></div>The company was able to re-create Earheart's radio, which Morris said was key to analyzing the strength and distance of her final radio signals and triangulating where she could have possibly crashed. Through their analysis, Nauticos found there was little chance for Earhart to have transmitted her <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-its-so-hard-to-lose-a-plane-2018-7">final signals</a> from the area Romeo says could be the wreckage site.Nauticos said studies related to fuel endurance indicated Earhart likely ran out of fuel about an hour after she reportedly radioed that she had "half-hour fuel remaining," hoping the nearby Coast Guard would pick up her transmission.The company said its radio testing and analysis determined that Earhart, possibly due to inclement weather conditions, was likely just outside the visible range of the Coast Guard cutter Itasca, which was anchored at Howland Island, given that her radio signal could be received. The company added that it was unlikely Earhart crashed there because she wouldn't have been able to travel so far in that direction with the little fuel she had while still having her radio signals received on land.<h2>Not quite a partnership but a shared mission</h2>While there has been talk of combining resources to find the wreckage, neither company has agreed to form a partnership. Morris said Romeo reached out to Nauticos when conducting his recent 100-day <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/ray-dalio-oceangate-titan-titanic-submersible-ocean-exploration-oceanx-bridgewater-2023-7">voyage to examine the sea floor</a> around Howland Island, offering to conduct scans of any areas of interest where Nauticos believed the wreck could be."He literally called us while he was out there and said, 'Hey, you guys got any areas you want us to search in?'" Morris said. "And we said we do, but we'd need a contract between the two organizations because we have way too much intellectual property here to protect. And he said, 'Well, you know, I'm not ready to do that yet.'"A representative for Deep Sea Vision told BI that Romeo and David Jourdan, the president of Nauticos, "have been in regular communications throughout DSV's effort" to find Earhart's wreckage but didn't respond to specific questions regarding any potential collaboration between the two companies.<div type="image" title="Amelia Earhart" height="881" width="1200" msid="107471299" hostid="261" sizebytes="81094"></div>Each expedition to search for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-investigators-use-new-techniques-to-solve-amelia-earhart-mystery-2019-7">Earhart's wreckage</a> costs a small fortune in equipment fees and hiring a crew of expert navigators, engineers, and sonar operators to conduct the operations.Romeo, a former real-estate investor, sold commercial properties to raise the $11 million needed to begin funding the search, which included the purchase of a $9 million high-tech unmanned submersible "Hugin" manufactured by a Norwegian company, <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/kongsberg-gets-nok-1-2-bln-order-from-lockheed-martin-1032649045">Kongsberg</a>. Deep Sea Vision now leases its equipment to other ocean explorers to continue funding its mission.Nauticos started as a for-profit company. Morris said the company spent roughly $13 million on its initial voyages searching for Earhart, adding: "We're not talking about buying equipment money; we're talking about the cost of actual operations."The company has since created a nonprofit wing to collect donations and promote the educational benefits of uncovering Earhart's plane, which Morris said could contain human remains and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amelia-earhart-plane-could-be-well-preserved-if-found-2024-1">salvageable documents</a> that would provide key insight into the crash."This has all been funded along the way mostly by individual investors who really are looking for a legacy project," Morris said. "This isn't the kind of thing you make money on, with the costs involved and the waiting."For now, Nauticos is preparing to launch a new round of fundraising to begin a fourth voyage to search the location it says could be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-did-amelia-earhart-die-2017-7">Earhart's final resting place</a> — and if Romeo and Deep Sea Vision find the wreckage at the location they're currently targeting, Morris said, "we would have never searched there, so good on Tony."Morris declined to specify the locations that Nauticos plans to search in its next expedition out of caution that hobbyists or another company, such as Deep Sea Vision, might get there first and lay a salvage claim on the wreckage. In maritime law, anyone who aids in the recovery of a ship or cargo that has been <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/treasures-lost-at-sea-kept-by-finders-or-us-government-2022-12">lost at sea</a> is entitled to a reward proportionate to the value of the property they retrieved."We were just, with the results of our radio testing, getting ready to start looking for funding for another expedition, and then Tony came along, so we kind of put everything on hold," Morris said. "We didn't want to come out with stuff just before he came out, so we said, 'All right, we will sit back. You'll get your day in the sun.'"While the two companies compete for the glory of finding Earhart's long-lost plane, the one thing they agree upon is that should the aircraft be found, it belongs in a museum."We want the world to be able to see it," Morris said.

Adani Transmission's net profit grows 22% in the June quarter, revenue up more than 15%

Adani Transmission to acquire Warora-Kurnool Transmission for over ₹3,370 crore

India Grid Trust, India's first power infrastructure <keyword id="2948615" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Investment-trust">investment trust</keyword> (InvIT), on Saturday signed a share purchase agreement to acquire NER-II Transmission Limited from <keyword id="3245667" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sterlite-Power">Sterlite Power</keyword> as part of the Framework Agreement. The indicative value of the <keyword id="30334" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="acquisition">acquisition</keyword> is ₹4,625 crore and would boost IndiGrid's AUM (asset under management) by 34 per cent to over ₹20,000 crore ($2.8 billion). Post completion, the platform's asset portfolio would consist of 13 power transmission projects, with a <keyword id="10879999" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="total-network">total network</keyword> of 38 power transmission lines and 11 substations extending over 7,570 circuit kilometers and 13,350 MVA in 17 Indian states and 1 Union Territory. NER-II is part of Inter State Transmission Scheme (ISTS) network, and was awarded on a Build, Own, Operate, Maintain ("BOOM") basis with a contractual period of 35 years. New Delhi, Dec 14 () Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL) on Saturday said it has received a Letter of Intent for a power transmission project in Maharashtra.
The Letter of Intent (LoI) to ATL has been awarded under a tariff based competitive bidding model from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL).
"ATL has received the LoI from MSETCL to build, own, operate and maintain a transmission project in Maharashtra for a period of 35 years," a company statement said.
The project 'Kharghar Vikhroli Transmission Pvt Ltd' comprises approximately 34 km of 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines along with 400kV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) Substation at Vikhroli in Mumbai. 
According to the statement, this will be the first ever 400 kV substation facility in Mumbai.
The project is critical to Mumbai as the existing capacity of transmission corridor is not sufficient to carry further power into the city. It would enable additional power to be brought into the city, thus helping in meeting the future demand of Mumbai. 
The project will also help bring down the cost of electricity for the people of Mumbai, it added. 
 ATL is the transmission and distribution business arm of Adani Group. It is the country's largest private transmission company with a cumulative transmission network of around 14,738 circuit kilometer. Some people think that it's possible to get HIV by simply sharing a space, hugging, or kissing a person who has the virus. But it's highly unlikely for you to get HIV from doing any of these things, including kissing a person who has it. Here's why. <h2>Can you get HIV from kissing?</h2>It is very unlikely to get HIV from kissing someone who has the virus. HIV can only be <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/484948" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found in saliva in trace amounts</a> and the natural enzymes and antibodies in your saliva prevent the virus from<a href="https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/sexual-health/can-you-catch-hiv-from-kissing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> infecting new cells</a>."To get HIV, you need to have enough of the virus particulates in your bodily fluids. The highest amounts of the virus particulates live in blood, semen, and vaginal fluids. You have a few particles in the saliva but it's not enough to infect you," says<a href="https://www.mountsinai.org/profiles/stella-a-safo" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Stella Safo, MD,</a> an HIV primary care provider at Mount Sinai <keyword id="6354750" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="health">Health</keyword> System, New York. But Safo says that you should be wary of kissing someone with HIV if they have gaping mouth sores or cuts. "The only way you could get HIV from kissing is if you had big cuts in your mouth and kissed someone with big cuts in their mouth, and there is an exchange of blood. However, that isn't how a regular kissing experience typically goes," Safo says.<h2>Other unlikely ways to contract HIV</h2>There are many myths about how HIV can spread. It's very unlikely to get it via the following: <ul><li>Through sweat or tears </li><li>Through the air </li><li>By hugging a person who has the virus </li><li>By shaking hands with a person who has the virus </li><li>By sharing a toilet or bathroom with a person who has the virus </li></ul><h2>How is HIV spread?</h2>HIV is spread through the exchange of particular bodily fluids like semen, breast milk, and blood. Important: The <a href="https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/sexual-health/can-you-catch-hiv-from-kissing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">most common way</a> HIV spreads is through sexual intercourse. According to the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/risk/estimates/riskbehaviors.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Disease Control and Prevention</a>, 138 people per 10,000 exposures are at risk of getting HIV through receptive anal sex. Other c<a href="https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/hw151408" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ommon ways </a>in which you can be infected with HIV include: <ul><li>Anal sex: Anal sex is the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/hiv-transmission/ways-people-get-hiv.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">riskiest type of sex t</a>o have with a person who has HIV. It becomes even riskier if you are on the receiving end during intercourse. This is because the lining of the rectum is very thin, and can allow the virus to easily pass through. </li><li>Penetrative vaginal sex: This is not as risky as anal sex, but is still a very common way for the virus to be spread. Here either party can contract the virus. </li><li>Sharing needles and syringes: Sharing needles and syringes for steroids, drugs, or hormones with a person who has HIV puts you at high risk of getting the virus. </li><li>Through pregnancy and breastfeeding: HIV can sometimes be passed from a mother to her baby through pregnancy and breastfeeding. <a href="https://www.niaid.nih.gov/diseases-conditions/prevention-perinatal-transmission" target="_blank" rel="noopener">This is known as perinatal transmission</a>. It's uncommon for this to occur if the mother is aware of her status and is receiving adequate treatment. </li></ul>HIV can <a href="https://www.theaidsinstitute.org/education/aids-101/how-hiv-spread-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also be spread in other ways</a>. However, these are rarer: <ul><li>Oral sex: If ejaculation occurs during oral sex, and the mouth of the giving party has open sores or cuts, then HIV can be transmitted. </li><li>Female on female sex: It's rare for HIV to spread <a href="https://www.aidsmap.com/about-hiv/female-female-sexual-transmission-hiv" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from a woman to another woman</a> during sexual intercourse, but there is some risk, as vaginal fluids can contain the virus. </li><li>Body piercings and tattoos: These involve the use of sharp equipment that break through the skin and draw blood. If you get a tattoo or body piercing in an unlicensed and unsanitary place, there's a small risk you could get the virus.</li><li>Blood transfusions and organ transplants: The risk of getting HIV from a blood transfusion or an organ transplant is very low. This is because blood, organs and tissues donated for transfusions and transplants go through a very meticulous testing process. </li></ul><h2>How viral load affects transmission </h2>For people who have HIV, your viral load is the amount of the virus that can be found in your blood. "Once a virus enters your body, it uses your cells to reproduce. When it reproduces you get a high amount of the virus in your body. The viral load is how you describe the amount of virus you have in your body. The higher your viral load is, the more infectious you are," Safo says. Your viral load is at its highest at the <a href="https://hivinfo.nih.gov/understanding-hiv/fact-sheets/stages-hiv-infection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beginning and end-stage of the virus</a>. During these times, you are highly infectious and can easily transmit the virus to another person. HIV medication is designed to lower your viral load to levels by which it becomes difficult to transmit. In some cases, your load might become so low while on medication that <a href="https://www.hiv.gov/hiv-basics/overview/about-hiv-and-aids/how-is-hiv-transmitted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a test won't be able to detect the virus.</a> If your viral load is undetectable then you can't transmit the virus to another person. However, not everyone on HIV medication can achieve or maintain undetectable viral loads, which is why it's advisable to continue to practice safe sex. <h2>Tips to avoid HIV transmission</h2>To prevent the spread of HIV, follow these guidelines: <ul><li>Use condoms during sexual intercourse </li><li>Never share needles and syringes </li><li>Avoid multiple sexual partners </li><li>Use lubricant during sexual intercourse to reduce friction and dryness which can cause vaginal tears and broken condoms. </li><li>Speak to your doctor about <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/HIV/basics/prep.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)</a>, if you believe you are at high risk of exposure. PrEP is a daily medication used to help prevent HIV.</li><li>Speak to your doctor about taking <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/pep.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) </a>if you think you've just been exposed to the virus. PEP is a type of antiretroviral medication that help prevent HIV if started within 72 hours after you might have been exposed to the virus. </li></ul><h2>Insider's takeaway </h2>Some of the most common ways in which HIV can be spread are through sexual intercourse, sharing needles, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Kissing isn't one of the ways the virus can be spread. As long as you and your partner's mouths are free of open wounds or sores, kissing is a perfectly safe activity to engage in, with a person who has the virus. However, if you think you've been exposed to the virus in any way, it's advisable to get tested as soon as possible.
