<ul class="summary-list"><li>FTX spent $15 million on flights and plane upgrades with a charter airline, a court filing said.</li><li>Bankman-Fried made 21 trips to or from Washington, DC, on a Learjet 60, a person with direct knowledge told Insider.</li></ul><p>Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX frequently chartered private jets from a Bahamian company called Trans Island Airways (TIA), three people familiar with the matter told Insider.</p><p>That included several trips to Washington, DC, according to one of the people who has direct knowledge of the matter.</p><p>Two of the people told Insider that TIA operated the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ftx-15000-daily-doordash-credits-private-planes-delivering-amazon-2022-11"><u>private planes that transported FTX's Amazon packages</u></a> from Florida to the Bahamas, because Amazon didn't deliver to the Caribbean nation.</p><p>Bankman-Fried's association with TIA was first publicly detailed in a legal motion filed last Thursday. The motion said a "handshake deal" between Bankman-Fried and the firm's CEO saw <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/private-jets-sam-bankman-fried-ftx-loaned-28-million-aviation-2023-9"><u>FTX loan it $28.4 million to buy two private jets</u></a> — a Bombardier Global 5000 and Embraer ERJ-135BJ Legacy 600.</p><p>The motion, which arose from a months-long dispute with the FTX Debtors over who owns the aircraft, also says FTX spent more than $15 million with the aviation company on flight services.</p><p>Beginning in October 2021, TIA provided "private charter and cargo flights, customized plane upgrades and other services" to FTX executives, employees, and their associates, the filing said.</p><div type="image" title="A Learjet 60 with registration C6-ROV and a blue-and-white livery is pictured on the tarmac." height="768" width="1024" msid="104065478" hostid="261" sizebytes="86664"></div><p>Bankman-Fried's flights included 36 journeys on a Learjet 60, the person with direct knowledge of the matter told Insider. They added that each trip cost between $20,000 and $30,000, which means the Learjet flights alone could cost more than $1 million.</p><p>Some 21 of those trips were to or from Washington, DC, the person said. The trips to DC are especially notable because <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-bankman-fried-made-political-donations-under-others-names-authorities-allege-2022-12"><u>FTX executives' political donations</u></a> form a key part of the evidence against Bankman-Fried, whose trial is due to start next Tuesday.</p><p>Prosecutors allege that Bankman-Fried orchestrated a scheme that involved funneling<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sbf-political-donations-2-executives-republicans-democrats-woke-prosecutors-2023-2"><u> $100 million of FTX funds through executives to politicians</u></a>. It was intended to "weed out anti-crypto" politicians and gain favorable influence among lawmakers, while avoiding criticism for appearing too partisan, prosecutors said in the most recent indictment.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-bankman-fried-sbf-who-are-his-parents-barbara-joseph-2022-12">Bankman-Fried's father</a>, Joe Bankman, joined the FTX founder at meetings on Capitol Hill that aimed to change regulations on crypto exchanges, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/10/02/inside-sam-bankman-frieds-family-bubble">The New Yorker reported.</a></p><p>Bankman-Fried is also known to have met with senior officials in the US financial system, and this week the New York Times reported that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-bankman-fried-talked-crypto-with-fed-chair-jerome-powell-nyt-2023-9">Bankman-Fried met with Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell</a> in February 2022. The meeting <a target="_blank" href="https://www.federalreserve.gov/foia/files/chair-powell-calendar-022022.pdf">took place inside the Federal Reserve's Martin building in D.C</a>, his calendar shows.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ftx-ryan-salame-guilty-plea-sam-bankman-fried-trial-2023-9"><u>Ryan Salame</u></a>, the former CEO of FTX's Bahamian entity, has pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business. He was released on $1 million bail.</p><p>Bankman-Fried has pleaded not guilty to seven charges including wire fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He faces more than 100 years in prison if convicted on all counts.</p><p>The FTX founder also traveled via Learjet to New York and Chicago, the person said. They added that Bankman and biographer Michael Lewis sometimes accompanied him. In a lawsuit filed against Bankman-Fried's parents earlier this month, FTX lawyers said Bankman "flew on privately-chartered jets."</p><p>Bankman and a representative for Lewis did not respond to requests for comment from Insider.</p><p>Online listings for TIA's Learjet 60s, registered as C6-ZIP and C6-ROV, <a target="_blank" href="https://centraljets.com/plane/C6-ZIP-645"><u>show</u></a> they can carry up to eight passengers, and have beige interiors with wooden details.</p><div type="image" title="A Cessna Grand Caravan with the doors open painted in blue and white livery on the tarmac, tail number C6-TIA" height="768" width="1024" msid="104065480" hostid="261" sizebytes="76026"></div><p>Bankman-Fried also chartered flights on TIA's smaller Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, two of the people told Insider. They said the Caravans were typically used for cargo flights, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ftx-15000-daily-doordash-credits-private-planes-delivering-amazon-2022-11">like transporting the crypto exchange's Amazon packages.</a></p><p>One of them, a former TIA pilot, said the FTX founder often flew to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Florida.</p><p>"I flew all of them," he said. "I flew Sam, I flew Ryan, Sam's girlfriend, Sam's dad. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11910935" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="american-airlines" source="Orion">American Airlines</keyword> is dropping five international markets as its waits on delayed <keyword id="12705215" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dreamliner" source="Orion">Dreamliner</keyword> aircraft.</li><li>The carrier is cutting cities in Europe and Asia and reducing frequencies to Asia-Pacific destinations.</li></ul><p>American <keyword id="11898285" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="airlines" source="Orion">Airlines</keyword> is reducing its international network as Boeing delays the delivery of its Dreamliner jets. </p><p>In an internal memo seen by Insider, American revealed it is cutting five international <keyword id="12020592" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="routes" source="Orion">routes</keyword> from its summer 2022 flight schedule because it won't have enough planes. According to the memo, up to 13 Dreamliner aircraft were expected to be in the company's fleet by this winter, but Boeing has failed to deliver the widebodies, prompting the airline to cut several markets.</p><p>"Despite this setback, we will take actions to control what we can and deliver the best possible airline to our customers," American's chief revenue officer, Vasu Raja, said in the memo. "We will do our best to minimize the damage these aircraft delivery delays have caused to our long-haul portfolio while giving certainty to our customers who will begin to book summer <keyword id="11896628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="travel" source="Orion">travel</keyword> in the new year."</p><p>The following cities will not be included in next year's summer network:</p><p><strong>Edinburgh, Scotland: </strong>This route has not flown since 2019, but when it was in service the carrier used a 176-seater Boeing 757 aircraft, according to <a href="https://thepointsguy.com/news/american-airlines-summer-2022-network-cuts-new-qatar-flight/?utm_term=editorial&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;tw=1&amp;utm_content=A7A4F92E-5903-11EC-A6EC-17034844363C&amp;utm_campaign=thepointsguy&amp;utm_medium=social">The Points Guy</a>. However, the plane was retired in 2020 after the start of the <keyword id="11896136" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="pandemic" source="Orion">pandemic</keyword> and American has not yet found an alternative option.</p><p><strong>Shannon, Ireland: </strong>Like Edinburgh, flights to Shannon also ceased in 2019 and used a Boeing 757 plane. The carrier revealed in September that it would be returning to the city from Philadelphia on a seasonal basis using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, though the delivery delay has halted the plans.</p><p><strong>Hong Kong: </strong>Flights to Hong Kong from Dallas/Fort Worth ceased after the onset of the pandemic as travel to the region was blocked. The over 8,000-mile flight was the carrier's longest route, but now that it's dropped, Seattle to Bangalore will take the title when it eventually launches.</p><p><strong>Prague, Czech Republic: </strong>Flights from Philadelphia to Prague <a href="https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2021/Connecting-Customers-to-the-Middle-East-and-Beyond-American-Airlines-Announces-Service-to-Doha-Qatar-NET-ALP-12/default.aspx">launched in summer 2018</a> using a Boeing 767 and flew seasonally in 2019. The carrier dropped the route in December 2020 to reallocate the planes used for trans-Atlantic flying and put them on routes to Latin America and the Caribbean, <a href="https://twitter.com/xJonNYC/status/1340112179710857216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1340112179710857216%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsimpleflying.com%2Famerican-transatlantic-cuts%2F">according to an internal memo</a>.</p><p><strong>Dubrovnik, Croatia: </strong>American operated a route from Philadelphia to Dubrovnik in summer 2019, though it was canceled in 2020 due to <keyword id="11893994" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="covid-19" source="Orion">COVID-19</keyword>. American was the first carrier in the US to connect the country to Croatia in the past 10 years, according to <a href="https://simpleflying.com/american-stable-international-route-network/">Simple Flying</a>.</p><p>In addition to the cut routes, American is also reducing its frequencies to Shanghai and Beijing in China and Sydney, Australia, and delaying the launch of its highly anticipated flight from Seattle to Bangalore, India, Raja explained in the memo.</p><p><a href="https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2021/Connecting-Customers-to-the-Middle-East-and-Beyond-American-Airlines-Announces-Service-to-Doha-Qatar-NET-ALP-12/default.aspx">However, American did sprinkle more positive news into its announcements.</a> Beginning June 2022, the carrier will fly from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. American's Oneworld partner, Qatar Airways, already has up to three daily flights scheduled to its home country next summer, <a href="https://booking.qatarairways.com/nsp/views/fareSelection.xhtml?selLang=en">according to its website</a>.</p><p>"We look forward to welcoming our oneworld partner and friends at American Airlines to our home airport in Doha, recently voted the World's Best Airport, and offer connectivity to numerous business and leisure destinations across the region and beyond," Qatar Airways' chief commercial officer, Thierry Antinori, said in a press release.</p>

The airline operated flights within the Middle East and Europe with an Airbus fleet.</p><h2>Trans States Airlines</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Trans States Airlines" height="1113" width="1484" msid="80315218" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Trans States Airlines was a regional airline that flew Embraer ERJ145 services for United Airlines, While originally planning to cease operations by the end of 2020 after consolidating operations with ExpressJet Airlines, the pandemic saw the airline cease operations on April 1, as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-airlines-that-failed-bankrupt-covid19-pandemic-2020-3#trans-states-airlines-us-march-2020-2">Insider's David Slotnick reported</a>.</p><p>Its parent company, Trans States Holdings, was also the parent company of Compass Airlines.</p><h2>Air Italy</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Air Italy" height="1665" width="2221" msid="80315220" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Air Italy was an Italian airline reborn in 2018 under new ownership and strong backing from Qatar Airways. The airline could trace its routes back to the 1960s and flew under the Meridiana brand from the early 2000s until its rebrand. </p><p>Meridiana and the former Air Italy had combined to create an airline to rival Alitalia. The first new intercontinental flight launched to New York from Milan in June 2018 with subsequent expansions across the US and Canada. </p><p>Operations were ultimately ceased in February 2020 as its first years saw massive losses, as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/air-italy-to-liquidate-and-end-flights-latest-airline-bankruptcy-2020-2">Insider's David Slotnick reported</a>. The Boeing 737 Max grounding had also cost the airline since it relied on the aircraft for its European route network. </p><h2>Flybe</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Flybe Portugal" height="800" width="1066" msid="80315223" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Flybe was an independent regional airline in the UK that ceased operations in March 2020 due to the pandemic, as the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/05/business/flybe-administration-coronavirus.html#:~:text=Flybe%2C%20an%20ailing%20regional%20airline,financial%20strains%20caused%20by%20coronavirus.">New York Times</a> reported. The airline had served the furthest and most obscure reaches of the British isle, especially cities that had been shunned by the country's larger carriers. </p><p>A group of companies including Virgin Atlantic Airways, Stobart Group, and Cyrus Capital had purchased the airline in 2019, the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/05/business/flybe-administration-coronavirus.html#:~:text=Flybe%2C%20an%20ailing%20regional%20airline,financial%20strains%20caused%20by%20coronavirus.">Times</a> reported, but that couldn't keep the airline from going under.</p><h2>Germanwings</h2><h2><div type="image" title="germanwings plane" height="2331" width="3108" msid="80315227" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Germanwings was one of the Lufthansa Group's low-cost carriers that ceased operations in April 2020 due to the pandemic, as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lufthansa-grounds-germanwings-in-sweeping-restructuring-2020-4">Reuters</a> reported. The Lufthansa Group started these carriers as a way of competing with the likes of Ryanair and EasyJet, which had offered incredibly low fares for flights across the continent. </p><p>The airline had suffered a massive public relations disaster when a co-pilot committed suicide by crashing a plane during a <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/plane-flying-from-barcelona-to-dusseldorf-crashes-in-france-2015-3">scheduled flight from Spain to Germany in 2015, killing all on board.</a></p><h2>SA Express</h2><h2><div type="image" title="SA Express" height="1392" width="1857" msid="80315229" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>SA Express was an independent regional airline in South Africa that ceased operations in May 2020 due to the pandemic, as <a href="https://airlinegeeks.com/2020/05/01/south-african-express-placed-under-liquidation-s-african-aviation-on-the-verge-of-collapse/">AirlineGeeks</a> reported. The airline had entered bankruptcy protection in February 2020. </p><h2>Tame</h2><h2><div type="image" title="TAME airline" height="1666" width="2222" msid="80315232" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Tame was the flag carrier of Ecuador and shut down operations in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as <a href="https://www.routesonline.com/news/29/breaking-news/291391/tame-to-be-liquidated-but-essential-routes-to-continue/">Routesonline</a> reported. The carrier had flown within Latin America and North America during its tenure. </p><h2>Makani Kai</h2><div type="image" title="Mokulele Airlines Cessna 208" height="1232" width="1642" msid="80315235" hostid="261"></div><p>Makani Kai was a Hawaiian commuter airline that merged with Mokulele Air in June 2020, according to the <a href="https://www.staradvertiser.com/2020/06/03/breaking-news/mokulele-airlines-and-makani-kai-air-announce-merger/">Star-Advertiser</a>. Both airlines merged as the pandemic has crippled traffic with Hawaii largely closed to tourists at the time. </p><h2>Level</h2><h2><div type="image" title="LEVEL airline" height="1666" width="2223" msid="80315237" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Level was a low-cost airline that ceased operations in June and July 2020. The carrier was initially started by the International Airlines Group to rival the likes of Norwegian and Wow Air on transatlantic and intra-European routes.</p><p>Flights were operated from Barcelona and Paris to cities across Europe and across the Atlantic to the Americas.  Both the European and the transatlantic divisions of the airline ceased operations due to the pandemic, as <a href="https://www.flightglobal.com/strategy/level-france-becomes-latest-coronavirus-crisis-airline-casualty/139242.article">FlightGlobal</a> reported.  </p><h2>NokScoot</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Nokscoot airline" height="1362" width="1816" msid="80315239" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>NokScoot was a Thai airline that ceased operations in June 2020, as the <a href="https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/1941572/nokscoot-goes-out-of-business">Bangkok Post</a> reported, citing the effects of the pandemic. The six-year-old airline was the result of a partnership between Scoot and Nok Airlines.</p><h2>LIAT</h2><h2><div type="image" title="LIAT airline" height="1666" width="2223" msid="80315241" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>LIAT was a Caribbean regional airline that ceased operations in July 2020 due to the pandemic after connecting the region's islands for years, the <a href="https://www.caymaniantimes.ky/news/liat-may-never-fly-again">Caymanian Times</a> reported. Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda had said the airline had been posting losses before the pandemic and hoped a replacement airline supported by Caribbean governments would form. </p><h2>Cathay Dragon</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Cathay Dragon Airbus A330-300" height="1357" width="1809" msid="80315242" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Cathay Dragon was a regional airline based in Hong Kong that <a href="https://news.cathaypacific.com/cathay-pacific-group-announces-corporate-restructuring">ceased operations in October 2020</a>. It was formed by Formula One driver Niki Lauda and owned by the Ryanair Group to provide low-cost flights across Europe. </p><h2>Austral</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Austral Argentina" height="1781" width="2375" msid="80315245" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Argentina's Austral ceased to exist on December 1, 2020, after a merger with the country's flag carrier, Aerolineas Argentinas, according to <a href="https://airlinegeeks.com/2020/12/01/goodbye-penguins-austral-lineas-aereas-brand-disappears-after-merge/">AirlineGeeks</a>. The carrier had formed in 1971 and provided regional services in Argentina and neighboring countries.  </p><h2>German Airways</h2><h2><div type="image" title="German Airways" height="1666" width="2223" msid="80315246" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>German Airways was a charter airline that ceased operations in April 2020 due to the pandemic, according to <a href="https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/89443-germanys-lgw-files-for-voluntary-administration">CH Aviation</a>. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="203935" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Eastern-Airlines">Eastern Airlines</keyword> is launching non-stop flights between New York and Los Cabos, <keyword id="3746" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mexico">Mexico</keyword>, starting November 14.</li><li>No, not that Eastern <keyword id="44023" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="airlines">Airlines</keyword>. </li><li>The new airline is a product of 2020 that's attempting a reboot of the iconic Eastern Air Lines that ceased operations in 1991. </li><li>Flights to South America began in January and expanded to the Caribbean over the summer but the new airline is nothing like the old. </li></ul><p>Cabo San Lucas, Mexico will only be a non-stop flight away from New York City this fall as a new airline prepares to inaugurate a new route between the two cities on November 14. </p><p>Eastern Airlines will operate the twice-weekly flights to the Mexican vacation destination, departing from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and currently selling for unusually low introductory fares of under $250 round-trip. But while many will recognize the airline's name, hardly any will recognize the airline itself.</p><p>No, it's not the Eastern Air Lines of the 20th century, though this airline is trading on its name and brand. Eastern Air Lines (with a space between air and line) was a major US carrier that ceased operations in 1991 and has been the focus of two relaunch attempts in the past decade alone.</p><p>January saw its first flight of the reincarnated airline between New York and Guayaquil, Ecuador, operating the first scheduled passenger flight under the Eastern name in nearly 30 years, but with a completely different look and feel. </p><h2>A dynamic history</h2><p>Aviation said goodbye to the original Eastern Air Lines in the early 1990s after a 65-year run that started in 1926 as Pitcairn Aviation. A leader in the domestic market, the magnitude of its loss to US aviation was comparable to that of Pan American World Airways and Trans World Airlines. </p><p>The second iteration of Eastern Airlines took flight in 2015 with Boeing 737 aircraft used exclusively for charter operations, according to <a href="https://airlinegeeks.com/2020/06/16/interview-eastern-ceo-talks-777-and-strategy-as-traffic-picks-up/">AirlineGeeks</a>. <keyword id="6367788" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="planes">Planes</keyword> were painted in the iconic blue and white livery complete with Eastern's original logo but it was largely a novelty as the average flyer couldn't book a flight on the new airline.</p><p>Charter aircraft of that size are typically reserved to transport large groups including sports teams, military troops, and even presidential campaigns. The limited nature of its return to the skies meant the public was largely unaware of Eastern's comeback until it was bolstered into the spotlight in October 2016.</p><p>The airline was involved in a high-profile incident when one of its planes <keyword id="52392" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Flying">flying</keyword> for the Trump campaign and carrying then-Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate Mike Pence overran the runway while landing at New York's LaGuardia Airport. No injuries were reported, according to <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/several-failures-resulted-2016-plane-crash-vice-president-mike-pence-investigation-says">PBS</a>, but the incident occurred just days before the 2016 election that made Pence vice president. </p><p>It wasn't Trump's first run-in with Eastern, as he had bought the Eastern Air Lines Shuttle 26 years prior and turned it into the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-airline-shuttle-transportation-pan-am-eastern-new-york-2019-1">Trump Shuttle flying between New York, Washington, and Boston</a>. But like the Trump Shuttle, the second coming on Eastern was short-lived, ceasing operations in 2017. </p><p>The storied history notwithstanding, the new Eastern Airlines also isn't exactly a new airline. It's the end result of a rebranding effort by Dynamic Airways, a similarly obscure airline that operated similar flights from New York and Florida to the Caribbean and South America. </p><p>Unlike the charter airline, this version of Eastern kept the name but introduced a new branding style and livery for its aircraft. The only identifiable remnants of the old airline on the newly-repainted aircraft is a small former Eastern Air Lines logo on their tails.</p><h2>New flights from New York</h2><p>Eastern's relaunch centers around a New York and Miami-based route network with an all-international flying schedule. Its first flight departed in January from John F. Kennedy International Airport bound for Guayaquil, Ecuador – a popular route also served by JetBlue Airways and LATAM Airlines – with a second route to Georgetown, Guyana from New York starting in March and third to Port-au-Prince, Haiti in August.</p><p>The new route to Los Cabos will be the airline's fourth from New York and sixth overall as Eastern also operates two routes to South America from Miami. Its only competitor on the New York-Los Cabo route will be United Airlines, which flies from nearby Newark, New Jersey also non-stop to the Baja California Sur vacation destination.</p><p>Eastern's flights will be operated using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft offering two cabin classes of service, economy and premium. Economy seats are configured in a standard 2-3-2 configuration while the premium cabin will see recliner seats in a 2-2-2 configuration.</p><p>The twice-weekly service will depart on Wednesdays and Saturdays from <keyword id="120333" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="JFK-airport">JFK Airport</keyword>'s Terminal 4 at 9:20 a.m. and arrive at Los Cabos International Airport at 1:30 p.m., according to Cirium route data. The return flight departs the same days at 3:30 p.m., arriving back in New York at 11:40 p.m. </p><p>Flights on most Eastern routes aren't daily and passengers expecting the Eastern Air Lines of yesteryear will be disappointed. A January inaugural flight review by <a href="https://thepointsguy.com/news/eastern-airlines-inaugural-flight/">The Points Guy</a> found that the experience left a lot to be desired, even in the premium cabin. </p><p>But the airline does allow free checked bags and only charges $10 for regular seat assignments and $25 for exit row or extra legroom seats. Combined with the low introductory fares on the new route to Mexico, flyers not caring about extras like in-flight entertainment can safe on airfare.</p><h2>Visit South America, on Eastern Airlines</h2><p>Eastern has plans to expand further into South America to destinations further below the equator than Guayaquil. Recent filings with the Department of <keyword id="34991" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="transportation">Transportation</keyword> request authority for the airline to fly to <a href="https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=DOT-OST-2020-0213-0001">Buenos Aires, Argentina</a>, and <a href="https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=DOT-OST-2020-0214-0001">Santa Cruz, Bolivia</a>, from Miami. </p><p>Bolivia flights would start in November while Buenos Aires flights would begin in December if approved. </p>
