And now that Australia is the host of the ICC T20 World Cups 2020 (men and women), the country has ambitious plans for the Indian market. Australia’s Minister for Tourism, Simon Birmingham, has provided additional funding of AUD 5 million to promote the upcoming World Cups to the fans in India and on the back of its strong marketing game and partnerships, Tourism Australia aims to see additional 1,40,000 Indian visitors in 2020 i.e., 5,00,000 visitors. “Following the success of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which was co-hosted by Australia and attracted approximately 1,00,000 international visitors, we are expecting the ICC T20 World Cups to attract an additional 30,000-40,000 Indian visitors to Australia in 2020. This will feed in to our ambitious target of achieving half a million visitor arrivals during the year 2020-21, who will potentially spend up to AUD 2.5 billion (₹12,500 crores) on their Australia trips,” shares Brent Anderson, Regional General Manager, South and SEA, Tourism Australia. In the last financial year, Tourism Australia recorded 3,82,000 arrivals from India – a 12% increase than 2018. Indian visitors spent AUD 1.8 billion (approximately ₹8,800 crore) on their Australian trips during the year ended June 2019, thereby marking an increase of 17% over the previous year. The average spend per trip for Indian visitors was A$ 5,000 (approx. The visitation from India is currently dominated by the middle-aged affluent segment, however, Anderson is hopeful that the next wave of growth will definitely come from the millennials and Gen Z, for whom travel will be a way of life. Tourism Australia aims to make its upcoming sporting event the largest sporting spectacle in the world – in line with ICC’s vision – to create a world record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting fixture at the finals of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup. The event will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with a capacity of 1,00,024 spectators. The previous world record was set in 1999 during the FIFA women’s soccer final in California with 90,185 attendees. Given the demand anticipated for the World Cups, the ICC has appointed five Official Ticketing Agents and two sub-agents, including Bharata Army, Gainwell Sports, Fanatic Sports, Sports Konnect, Cutting Edge, PickYourTrail, and Medallin Sports, to sell cricket packages in India. The Department of Home Affairs has also introduced online visa lodgement for travellers from India to ease the hassle. Marketing Plan To attract more tourists from India during ICC Cricket World Cups, Tourism Australia has also released a 360-degree campaign. Conceptualised by Scarecrow M&amp;C Saatchi, the core idea of the campaign is to draw synergies between India’s most loved sport and signature Australian experiences that define the legendary ‘Australian way of life’, which includes food and drink, nature and wildlife, and aquatic and coastal experiences. The ICC T20 World Cup campaign will run across three stages - Awareness, Consideration and Booking. In addition to the digital assets and television commercial that has been developed, the campaign will also leverage multiple online mediums to amplify their messaging. A mix of search, display, video, social, native, programmatic and content will be a part of the digital campaign. Content partnerships with broadcast and Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms will also be leveraged as part of the campaign to showcase the tourism experiences through the eyes of renowned cricketing legends from both countries. The campaign will be further amplified during the Australia tour of India in 2020 and the Australian Open 2020, as well as through public relations and international media hosting programs that will see influencers from different fields have a first-hand experience of the game and beyond. Tourism Australia's aim to attract around 5,00,000 Indian visitors in 2020-21 could contribute AUD 2.5 billion to its economy

<keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s rank on the <keyword id="20020435" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Economic-Forum" source="keywords">World Economic Forum</keyword>'s <keyword id="21747126" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Travel-Tourism-Development-Index-2024" source="Orion">Travel &amp; Tourism Development Index 2024</keyword> has risen to 39th place, with global tourism activities returning to pre-pandemic levels, the annual report showed on Tuesday. While the US topped the list, India is ranked highest in South Asia and among the lower-middle-income economies, the <keyword id="102110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="WEF" source="Orion">WEF</keyword> said. India was ranked 54th in the previously published index in 2021, though changes made to the index parameters limit its comparability to earlier years. After the US, Spain, Japan, France and Australia figure among the top five in the 2024 list. The index, prepared in collaboration with the University of Surrey, showed India is highly price-competitive (18th) and boasts competitive Air Transport (26th) and Ground and Port (25th) infrastructure. In particular, India's strong Natural (6th), Cultural (9th) and Non-Leisure (9th) Resources help drive travel, and the country is only one of three to score in the top 10 for all the resource pillars, the WEF said. Moreover, despite a decline compared to 2019, the country still scores well for <keyword id="2173225" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-and-tourism" source="Orion">travel and tourism</keyword> demand sustainability, especially thanks to more sustainable long stays among inbound visitors. It further said that as with many economies, travel and tourism enabling conditions in India have been impacted by global inflationary supply-side trends for the sector, with price competitiveness declining, while air transport and tourist services infrastructure are yet to recover to the 2019 level. As a result, the country's overall TTDI (Travel and Tourism Development Index) score is 2.1 per cent below its 2019 level. High-income economies in Europe and Asia-Pacific continued to lead the index. "International tourist arrivals and the travel and tourism sector's contribution to global GDP are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels this year, driven by the lifting of COVID-19-related travel restrictions and strong pent-up demand," the WEF said. The Middle East had the highest recovery rates in international tourist arrivals (20 per cent above the 2019 level), while Europe, Africa and the Americas all showed a strong recovery of around 90 per cent in 2023. The biennial index analysed the travel and tourism sectors of 119 countries around a range of factors and policies. Germany was ranked 6th, followed by the UK, China, Italy and Switzerland in the top ten. The results highlighted that high-income economies generally continue to have more favourable conditions for travel and tourism development. This was helped by conducive business environments, dynamic labour markets, open travel policies, strong transport and tourism infrastructure, and well-developed natural, cultural and non-leisure attractions.

India rises to rank 39th on WEF's Travel & Tourism Development Index 2024, becomes highest ranked South Asian nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sto be the mascot of 'Incredible India' campaign with the Tourism Ministry finally deciding to do away with plans to rope in any Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, for the role which was lying vacant after ouster of Aamir Khan earlier this year, as per a news report by the agency. 
 
No Bollywood actor will be engaged for the campaign aimed at attracting foreign travellers and video footages of Modi during the last two-and-a-half years where he has talked about tourism in India and abroad, will be used for the campaign, a senior ministry official said. 
 
The ministry is planning to use -- for radio and audio release -- two types of videos of different durations where Modi had talked about the uniqueness and diversity of the various places in the country, the official told the agency. 
 
At present, the ministry is "working on selecting the footages", the official said, adding that the campaign would be released in the next 40-45 days as the Indian 'tourism season' starts by November-end due to favourable weather as also the Christmas holidays and New Year celebrations. 
 
The official said the process of selecting the agency, which will carry out the task of running the campaign, is also under the process. 
 
Earlier, Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma had endorsed Modi's persona for the role, saying he is the "best face" to promote Incredible India campaign. He had asserted that the country has witnessed a jump in the tourists inflow from the countries the Prime Minister had visited. 
 
He had said that the ministry need not have any Bollywood face for the campaign to attract tourists from overseas. 
 
"The perception about India has changed significantly in the last two years with Prime Minister Modi visiting a host of countries during the period. So, who else could be the better face for Indian tourism than our Prime Minister," Sharma had said. 
 
Supporting Sharma's remarks, a senior ministry official said tourist inflow from countries like the US, Germany, Fiji, Brazil, Australia, the UK, Canada and Myanmar, among others, has witnessed a significant jump after Modi's visit to these nations. 
 
Earlier names of megastar Amitabh Bachchan and actress Priyanka Chopra were doing rounds for the campaign aimed at promoting India as a favourite tourist destination abroad after actor Aamir Khan's ouster as the campaign's brand ambassador. 
 
Though it was believed that Khan was eased out of the campaign in January after being associated with it for several years for his remarks on perceived intolerance, the Tourism Ministry had maintained that he was not hired by the government and that the contract with the advertising agency which engaged him had expired.

 In what is a first for an <keyword id="510530" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-chef">Indian chef</keyword>, Brar is premiering the first season of his one-of-a-kind food and travel video show titled <keyword id="3513659" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="RanveerOnTheRoad">#RanveerOnTheRoad</keyword> on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=twitter&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Twitter.</a>

 From bustling markets in <keyword id="11008" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adelaide">Adelaide</keyword> and <keyword id="5629" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sydney">Sydney</keyword>, to sipping wines at the vineyards of <keyword id="449992" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Barossa-Valley">Barossa Valley</keyword>, each episode will unearth a hidden food story that’s as much about gastronomy, flavours and history, as it is about the heart and soul of the place and the people behind them. 
 
These bite-sized videos will be tweeted by Brar to his whopping 347k followers every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 am starting from July 21. The chef will also be online for half an hour after the launch of every episode to answer his followers’ queries and share behind-the-scenes stories from the destination and its people.

On the decision behind choosing Australia for the first season, Brar said that it was ‘the diversity, the produce and the respect for ingredients’ that stood out for him. In the first season, he will also be seen talking to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=masterchef+australia&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Masterchef Australia</a> judge Matt Preston and cooking with the runner-up of Season 1 of the show, Poh Ling Yeow. 
 
Infact, Brar is excited to give his viewers some memorable food and wine stories, intense conversations around food and an extensive study of Australian food.

<keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>’s mystical history and natural beauty continues to charm foreigners. The country witnessed a substantial rise in the foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) in August 2014. According to a report by the <keyword id="20048" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tourism">tourism</keyword> ministry, India recorded 5.69 lakh FTA last month as against 4.86 lakh in August 2013 and 4.46 lakh in August 2012. 
 
“There has been a growth of 16.9% in August 2014 over August 2013 as compared to a growth of 9.1% registered in August 2013 over August 2012,” said the report. 
 
The ministry also noted that nearly 46.84 lakh foreign tourists had arrived between January and August this year, registering a growth of 7.4% over the same period in 2013 (43.60 lakh FTA). 
 Interestingly, while the US and UK continued to be one of the top source countries for India, some of the new countries that showed interest in India includes Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UAE and Oman. “…The top 15 source countries was highest from Bangladesh (14.03%), followed by <keyword id="6355055" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="USA">USA</keyword> (12.74%), UK (9.22%), Sri Lanka (6.79%), Japan (3.56%), France (3.18%), Malaysia (3.09%), Germany (2.79%), UAE (2.42%), Oman (2.28%), Australia (2.28%), Canada (2.22%), China (2.14%), Pakistan (2.11%) and Nepal (2.10%),” states the report. 
 
In terms of Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism, India earned Rs 10, 254 crore ($1.684 billion) in August itself as compared to Rs 8,351 crore ($1.328 billion) in August 2013 and Rs 7,260 crore ($1.306 billion) in August 2012. 
 
India recorded a growth of 22.8% in FEEs in rupee terms in August 2014 over August 2013, which had registered 15% growth over August 2012. While the growth rate in FEEs in American dollar terms in August 2014 was 26.8% as compared to a meagre growth rate of 1.7% in August 2013 over August 2012. 
 
“The FEE from tourism in rupee terms during January-August 2014 was Rs 77,350 crore with a growth of 12.8%, as compared to the FEE of Rs 68,558 crore with a growth of 15.4% during January-August 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012. While the FEE from tourism in terms of dollars during January-August 2014 were $12.739 billion with a growth of 4.6%, as compared to $12.178 billion with a growth of 8.0% during January-August 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012”, the ministry noted in its report. 
 
Surprisingly, the growth has been recorded despite spurt in crime against foreign tourists. Earlier, industry players feared that the rising crime rate would keep foreign tourists away from the country, but tourism ministry ran a slew of campaigns centred on the foreign tourists’ safety, which seems to have done the magic.

India Witnesses Huge Increase In Foreign Visitors

Growth of foreign tourist arrivals to India slowed down to 2.7 per cent in January-October period of 2019 in tune with the global trend, according to the Economic Survey 2019-20.
 The Indian tourism sector, which is a major engine of growth, had witnessed a strong performance from 2015 to 2017, with high growth in foreign tourist arrivals, the survey tabled in Parliament on Friday said.
 "However, foreign tourist arrivals growth (year-on year) has decelerated since then to 5.2 per cent in 2018 and 2.7 per cent in January-October 2019," it said.
 This trend, however, is not unique to India, as the growth in international tourist arrivals globally also slowed from 7.1 per cent in 2017 to 5.4 per cent in 2018, it added.
 As a result, the survey said growth in foreign exchange earnings from tourism sector has slowed in 2018 and 2019 after registering strong growth until 2017.
 "Foreign exchange earnings totalled USD 24 billion in January-October 2019, with a growth of 2 per cent," it said.
 In 2018, India ranked 22nd in the world in terms of international tourist arrivals, improving from the 26th position in 2017.
 "India now accounts for 1.24 per cent of world's international tourist arrivals and 5 per cent of Asia &amp; Pacific's international tourist arrivals," it said.
 In terms of foreign exchange earnings from tourism, India ranks 13th in the world and 7th in Asia &amp; Pacific.
 The survey said visitors from the top 10 countries -- Bangladesh, USA, UK, Sri Lanka, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, China, Germany and Russia -- accounted for 65 per cent of the total foreign tourist arrivals in India.
 Among foreign tourists, 62.4 per cent visited India for leisure, holiday and recreation, 16.3 per cent for business purposes, and 13.5 per cent was Indian diaspora, it added.
 With the e-Visa scheme available for 169 countries, the survey said foreign tourist arrivals to India on e-visas increased from 4.45 lakh in 2015 to 23.69 lakh in 2018, and stood at 21.75 lakh in January-October 2019, recording nearly 21 per cent year-on-year growth from the previous year. Mumbai: The irony can't be missed when you see <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword> Tourism brand ambassador, <keyword id="13825" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Glenn-McGrath">Glenn McGrath</keyword>, welcoming Indian tourists Down Under to watch the <keyword id="1521" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cricket">cricket</keyword> action unfold later this year. As he reels off names of exotic places, the mind jogs back to the years when he made batsmen feel unwelcome in Australia with his no-holds-barred verbal volleys. 
 
It didn't end there. He translated his strong words into wickets and, along the way became one of cricket's all-time greats. "In my 14-year-career I've featured in only two series defeats and on both occasions it was against India. The one-off Test at Delhi in 1996 and the 2001 series," he says of his impeccable 124-Test career, which ended in 2006-07 with 563 victims to his name. 
 
Excerpts from an interview to TOI: 
 
Do you see this Indian team challenging Australia? 
 We've seen England dominate the last three Tests, which isn't a good sign. Indian teams have always struggled in Australia because of the extra bounce and seam movement. It has always been an issue for them, but I think the bowlers do enjoy playing in Australia. If the Australian team plays the way it did against England last year, then it will be a tough series for India considering they have a fair bit of work to do. Their fielding in England was horrendous. You can't afford to drop three or four catches every game. With <keyword id="11010" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mitchell-Johnson">Mitchell Johnson</keyword> bowling at 150 (kph), and with control, India have their work cut out. Tour matches will be important for India. 
 
The Aussies love to see their team being challenged? 
 
They did enjoy Australia beating England 5-0. Yeah, they want to see challenging cricket, not one-sided affairs like it happened in England. 
 
You were never afraid to back yourself publicly... targeting the main batsman of the opposing team. Where did this confidence come from? 
 
I always had that self-belief. Growing up on a farm you are instilled with certain work ethics. When I was seven, I was working on the farm and driving tractors and cars. It gives you confidence as well. I enjoyed the challenge that is why I liked to make predictions and target batsmen. I believed I was good enough to deliver. But if they were good to beat me at my game, I could live with it. If you like to be like anyone else, you do what everyone else does. If you want to be different or better than everyone else, then you need to do something apart from them. 
 
You are one of the few fast bowlers who played 100-plus Tests. You think there'll be fewer bowlers reaching the landmark in the post T20 era? 
 
It is tough bowling day in and day out. There were few things that kept me in good stead right through my career. I didn't bowl a great deal when I was younger. I was prepared to work as hard as possible off the field and that made my life easier on it. The idea was to get fit and very strong. I could handle the rigors of fast bowling quite well. You need an off season to recharge the batteries. Probably genetics, too, played a role in my case. My bone density is very high and that helped me get through injuries. I just wanted to bowl every second over of the innings. I wanted to play every game and I never wanted to be rested. That is the attitude you've got to have. You've got to work hard off the field to get through on it. 
 
What are your views on the Anderson-Jadeja spat? 
 
I think that was a big turning point in the series. The England team steeled themselves after that. India were leading 1-0 but they got distracted. They were talking more about that than executing their on-field plans. England went from strength to strength and India went from bad to worse. You need to put these things behind when you enter the field.

McGrath: India Will Have Their Work Cut Out In Australia

But at the same time that disposable incomes and relaxed restrictions on foreign <keyword id="6354692" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Travel">travel</keyword> have allowed Chinese <keyword id="6356297" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tourists">tourists</keyword> to see the world in record numbers, there's also been growing criticism over the way some of the travelers behave.
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-is-trying-to-make-chinese-tourists-less-embarrassing-2013-8">Back in August</a>, a news program on the state-run <keyword id="1334" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="China">China</keyword> Central Television aired videos aimed at making Chinese tourists more polite after a series of embarrassing incidents, including a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-is-embarrassed-by-its-tourists-2013-5">Chinese teenager etching his name on the Luxor Temple</a> in Egypt and a group of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-is-embarrassed-by-its-tourists-2013-5">beach-goers posing with a dying dolphin</a> in Hainin, China.
And this month, China's National <keyword id="20048" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="tourism">Tourism</keyword> Administration has released a 64-page handbook called "Guidelines on Civilized Travel Abroad," <a href="http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/article/1322388/new-rules-promise-politer-visitors" target="_blank">according to the South China Morning Post</a> (SCMP).
Chinese tourists are now forbidden to behave in any way deemed "uncivilized" by the book. Among other things, the rules urge Chinese tourists not to force locals to pose for photos, leave footprints on toilet seats, cut lines, pick their noses, and take more than they can eat at buffet tables.
Another section included guidelines for mainland Chinese visiting China's bigger cities such as Hong Kong and Macau, where smoking in air-conditioned places and trying to get refunds on food have become local problems.
But the most specific rules in the new guidebook were regional restrictions encouraging tourists to "respect local customs."

China's first tourism law went into effect October 1st.
<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/03/travel/new-china-tourism-law/">According to CNN</a>, Article 14 of the law says that: "Tourists shall observe public order and respect social morality in tourism activities, respect local customs, cultural traditions and religious beliefs, care for tourism resources, protect the ecological environment, and abide by the norms of civilized tourist behaviors."
There's no word yet on what the penalty will be for tourists not following the new law, but CNN reports that tour guides and agencies that break any of the articles face fines up to $49,000.

China Now Has A Lengthy Rulebook Telling Its Citizens How To Behave When They Travel Abroad

New Delhi, Mar 13 () The US-based all-terrain vehicles major Polaris on Friday launched Sportsman 570 tractor in India at an introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), thus making its foray into farm products segment. Through the Sportsman 570 tractor, its first road-legal vehicle, Polaris is seeking to double its sales volumes in India this year. Powered by a 34 hp, 4 stroke 567cc engine with electronic fuel injection system, the vehicle has four-wheel drive features and can tow up to 810 kg. Although it is priced at Rs 8.49 lakh, the company said it is bringing the product into the market at an introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). "We have not been able to get into the agri segment here in India due to the lack of a road-legal product as farmers tend to consider road-legal options. However, with Polaris Sportsman 570 tractor, we will be making a foray into the segment," Polaris India Managing Director, and Country Head Pankaj Dubey told . He further said Polaris Sportsman 570 tractor has been very popular in other markets like North America, Europe and Australia. "With this 4x4 tractor we are targeting tea plantation, orchard farming, and other farming practices where such a machine will be invaluable," he added. The Sportsman 570 tractor comes with a factory-installed winch and plow mount plate that allows speedy accessory integration like pesticide sprayer, cultivator, disc harrow and utility cart. It can also perform tiling tasks, the company said. When asked about expectations from its new offering, Dubey said,"With this product coming in we expect to double the volume that our other ATV (all-terrain vehicles) did last year." He, however, did not share the company's sales in India last year citing confidentiality.
