He was doused in another milkshake just days later at another event.&#xa0;</p><p>Protesters also tried to douse Carl Benjamin, another far-right activist and candidate of the UK Independence Party, on a different occasion, though they missed.</p><p>Fellow fast-food chain Burger King also jumped in on the action, taking to Twitter to poke fun at the situation. It's also unusual because if Apple is making an iWatch right now, it's probably early in the manufacturing process, and naturally there are going to be hiccups. </span></span></p>

Apple Is Having Trouble Making The iWatch, Says DigiTimes

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>Businessman Donald Trump moved to trademark his potential 2016 presidential campaign's catchphrase more than two years ago.&#xa0;<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">And - according to</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">&#xa0;a Daily Mail story published Tuesday - the real estate mogul and television personality would really like his potential GOP rivals to stop using it.&#xa0;</span></p><p>"'I've actually trademarked it," Trump was quoted saying last weekend. "<span>I mean, I get tremendous raves for that line. ... I could come up with different lines. You would think they would come up with their own. That is my whole theme."</span></p><p>Indeed, the slogan is plastered all over Trump's <a href="donaldjtrump.com">potential campaign website</a>. However, Trump is clearly not the first to use it:&#xa0;<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">President Ronald Regan prominently featured the words </span><a href="http://www.iagreetosee.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Lets-Make-America-Great-Again-Reagan3.jpg">on his campaign materials</a>. The Daily Mail <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3077773/Trump-trademarked-slogan-Make-America-Great-just-DAYS-2012-election-says-Ted-Cruz-agreed-not-use-Scott-Walker-booms-TWICE-speech.html">reported</a>&#xa0;the Trump slogan was an homage to Reagan, whom both Trump and his father supported for president.&#xa0;</p><p>For his part, Trump backed up that interpretation on Twitter:&#xa0;</p><div><div></div></div><p class="embed-spacer"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Trump has publicly criticized at least two of his potential rivals in the 2016 race of their use of the phrase.&#xa0;</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">He reportedly told the British newspaper he was "disappointed" Wisconsin Gov. Donald Trump trademarked a Ronald Reagan slogan and would like to stop other Republicans from using it

In its latest report, the company has announced its quarterly and yearly earnings. According to the report, Qualcomm has seen a record <keyword id="46627" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="fiscal">fiscal</keyword> year result including $25 billion in revenues, up 30% versus last year. Its stockholders also got a high $6.7 billion of capital returned in fiscal 2013. In the fourth quarter for the company (July-Sep) of 2013, the company posted $6.48 billion in revenues, up 33% year-over-year.<br />

The company’s technologies underpin the global growth of wireless data and the semiconductor solutions, which are used across the industry’s flagship smartphones. Looking forward, Qualcomm expects continued strong growth of 3G and 3G/4G multimode devices around the world, particularly in China, with the anticipated launch of LTE.<br />

The report also says that Qualcomm remains well-positioned from a growth standpoint and expects double-digit compound annual growth rates for both revenues and earnings per share over the next 5 years.<br />

Qualcomm’s growth for the year Oct 2012-Sep 2013 can be put to the strong demand for new and faster devices this year. However, we would like to see more innovations coming from the tech firm. But change does not necessarily mean that you jump on to the bandwagon where the rest of the industry is latching on to. We had a discussion with <keyword id="1856203" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jack-Yang">Jack Yang</keyword>, HTC’s <keyword id="52011" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="South-Asia">South Asia</keyword> Chief, and asked if we are going to see some wearable gadgets such as a smartwatch from HTC as well?<br />
<br /> He replied that HTC has no plans to make a smartwatch and the primary focus of the company is still the mobile phone. Moreover, he feels that his customers would not want to take off their precious <keyword id="6399172" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="rolex">Rolex</keyword> watches and wear those smartwatches. But he did say that he is looking forward to more innovations on the wearable tech front as far as clothing is concerned. Yang strongly believes tech clothing will be a bigger hit than a smartwatch.<br />
<br /> A smartwatch from HTC would have been pretty neat, as the company is great at designing. Also, one of its primary partners in chipsets, <keyword id="104695" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Qualcomm">Qualcomm</keyword>, has recently launched a smartwatch called TOQ, which Qualcomm wants to present to its OEM partners including HTC, to build upon and market as their own. However, as far as new innovations from HTC are concerned, we would just get to see some new smartphones in the coming weeks. These include the much appreciated HTC ONE Mini, smaller version of HTC ONE, and HTC ONE Plus that has dual SIM capability and an expansion slot. <br />

<b>HTC has no plans to
jump into wearable tech market</b>

<p dir="ltr"><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EvNxWhskf8">Google</a></span></p></div><p></p></div>How often do you see people reading texts on their watch? Probably rarely - if at all.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Despite the fact that tech giants such as Google and Samsung are delving into wearables, the technology still hasn't gone mainstream. The capability has been around for years - there is no technical barrier to a watch that texts.</p>
<p dir="ltr">But there are physical, cultural and design barriers that are holding wearables back.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Google grabbed headlines last week with the introduction of Android Wear - a version of its popular smartphone software for smartwatches. This was a big move for the smart watch space. It strongly suggests that even more Android-powered watches are coming to the market this year-even though sales so far have been lackluster.</p>
<p dir="ltr">It's the unspoken downside of wearables: Everyone is excited about this hot new growth area. But fewer people talk about the reasons why no one wants to buy them.</p>
<p dir="ltr">ABI Research predicts that 90 million wearable devices will ship in 2014, but Forrester Research's J.P. Gownder also says that between 80 and 90 percent of current wearable devices will fail, <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/19/technology/mobile/wearable-devices/">according to CNN.</a> Here are a few of the biggest physical challenges preventing wearable gadgets from being a part of our everyday lives.</p>
<h3>Why smart watches are all bulky and square.</h3>

The problem with squeezing technology into a wristwatch or glasses frame is that aesthetic sacrifices are sometimes made for functionality.</p>
<p>"I think there's a lot of work to be done on the design," said Chris Jones, VP, principal analyst with Canalys Insight. </p>
<p>This is largely because today's smartwatches typically run on processors and internal components designed for smartphones. As a result, many smartwatches end up with a bulky frame and poor battery life. Designs will get slimmer and more attractive as technology as internal components are tailored for smaller devices, according to Jones. </p>
<p>Motorola's upcoming Moto 360 smartwatch is among the few that look more like a timepiece than a wearable computer. Its circular watch face gives it more of a classic analog look, but that doesn't mean it won't have design challenges of its own.</p>
<p>"We're also concerned that maybe that circular design will cut off some of the content on that screen," Jones said.</p>
<h3>When something is on your body it becomes more intimate.</h3>

No one wants to lug around a laptop that feels like an anvil in their backpack, or a smartphone that doesn't feel like something you'd want to have with you all day. But wearable technology takes that element to another level-when something is on your body it becomes more intimate.</p>
<p>"It becomes much more personal than just being in your pocket," said Myriam Joire, product evangelist for Pebble, the company who broke Kickstarter records when it crowdfunded the Pebble smartwatch in 2012. "You have to feel a connection with it aesthetically."</p>
<p>Smart watches are meant to be visible at all times, while a smartphone is typically only taken out when needed with the intention of being stowed away in one's pocket or bag, Joire acknowledges.</p>
<p>"A wearable might be something you could use to express yourself," Joire said. </p>
<h3>Device makers need to convince people their product is worth putting on their face.</h3>

With heads-up displays (HUDs), it's about more than simply looking nice-device makers need to convince people who may not otherwise wear glasses that their product is worth putting on their face.</p>
<p>"People are doing whatever they can to not wear glasses, whether its contacts or Lasik treatment," said Jones. "And this is kind of going back on that."</p>
<p>Although Google hasn't said when the consumer version of Glass will be available, it's been trying to promote the headset as a fashionable accessory since its unveiling. Google's smart eyewear made <a href="http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/the-final-frontier-google-glass-and-futuristic-fashion/#1">a few appearances in Vogue </a>in August 2013 in a story called "Google Glass and a Futuristic Vision of Fashion."</p>
<h3>"You do see people wearing them, but they're still not socially acceptable."</h3>
<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Google</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>More recently, Google has made an effort to appeal to everyday eyeglass wearers by announcing a partnership with Luxottica Group, which means designer frames from Ray-Ban and Oakley will soon be available for Glass. </p>
<p>But blending Glass with a pair of fashionable frames doesn't change the fact that you're wearing a computer on your face. According to Jones, it may take a while for everyday consumers to be comfortable with that idea.</p>
<p>"I think that's a big challenge," Jones said. "I'm in the Bay Area and you do see people wearing them, but they're still not socially acceptable. People would worry and think, 'Are they recording me?' 'What are they looking at?' 'Are they concentrating on this conversation?'"</p>
<h3>Google Glass is banned from certain bars in San Francisco.</h3>
<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://plus.google.com/+GoogleGlass/posts/aso1yad7q5E">Google+</a></span></p></div><p></p></div>Google Glass has already been banned from certain bars in San Fransisco due to privacy concerns, including one venue called The Willows in the South of Market neighborhood. Earlier this month, one woman claimed she was attacked while wearing Glass at a bar called Molotov's in the Lower Haight area. </p>
<p>"There's some time before we get over that," Jones said referring to privacy issues surrounding Google's wearable display. </p>
<h3>Wearables are only for early adopters.</h3>
<p>Design challenges may be preventing wearables from being part of our everyday lives, but we're still in the earliest phases of the technology. It's a conundrum that wearable gadget makers struggle with: it's difficult to gage what consumers really value (battery life, display size, style selection, etc.), if people aren't buying wearable devices yet.   </p>
<p>"Because of the price point, [wearable devices] tend to really be only for early adopters," said Rob Chandhok, vice president of Qualcomm Technologies and Qualcomm's Interactive Platforms, which designed the company's Toq smartwatch.</p>

Many of today's smart wristbands are well-suited for running apps, displaying notifications from your phone and gathering health data.</p>
<p>Jones believes that wearable devices will need to prove that they can do things you wouldn't be able to achieve otherwise before they take off. For instance, if a wearable device was able to provide advice on your sleeping habits rather than just telling you how long you slept and how often you moved throughout the night, this would prove more useful. </p>
<p>"We're expecting so much from these early products in the market when we don't really have dedicated components to go inside these devices," Jones said. "We're nowhere near seeing the best of what can be developed out there."  </p>

Silcon Valley Never Talks About The Real Reason You Don't Own A Smart Watch Or 'Wearable&#160;Tech'

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><ul><li><strong>Rob Dubbin, CEO of Scripto.computer, had been peacefully enjoying the yield from the peach tree in his backyard when he noticed some unwelcome visitors.</strong></li><li><strong>Bears had figured out how to get into the fence he built around the tree, and were wastefully eating peaches without even finishing them.</strong></li><li><strong>After hearing that bears are scared of human voices, his solution was to blare podcasts through a speaker to ward them off.</strong></li></ul><p>What lengths would you go to in order to protect the things you care about?</p><p>That's a question Rob Dubbin, CEO of <a href="http://scripto.computer/index.html">Scripto.computer</a>, had to ask himself when he realized his beloved peach tree, named Belvis, was being threatened by hungry bears.</p><p>In a <a href="https://twitter.com/robdubbin/status/1031969967414095874">Twitter thread</a>, Dubbin explained how he first came to notice the peach tree on his property, how he and his partner enjoyed and utilized the yield from Belvis, and how it all came so close to crashing down.&#xa0;</p><p><br>Clearly, this wasn't a proper defense against the forces of nature, so Dubbin took it upon himself to create a proper fence.&#xa0;</br></p><p>Everything was going fine, you could even say peachy, as the two made pies and harvested hundreds of fruits. There were no bears in sight.&#xa0;</p><p>Then, out of nowhere, a challenger appeared.&#xa0;</p><p>Dubbin had to think fast. Research told him that human voices might scare the bears off, but music might not do the trick.&#xa0;</p><p>Before he could come up with a solution, the bear came back - and it couldn't figure out how to get out of the fence. It was wastefully eating peaches without finishing them before it finally escaped its confinement and sprinted off to pillage another day.&#xa0;</p><p>Dubbin rigged up an old iPhone, loaded it with 100 episodes of the Reply All podcast, hooked it up to a large speaker and battery, and put it under the tree.</p><p>All he could do after that was wait.&#xa0;</p><p>Somehow, it worked - the bears apparently couldn't stand the sound of endless podcasts. They still haven't returned, and the remaining peaches have stayed unharmed. Belvis will live to see another day.&#xa0;</p><p>However, this effective defense came with a cost. It apparently began to spook Dubbin's neighbors out, as they wondered why they were hearing strange voices all throughout the night, which he had to eventually explain.&#xa0;</p><p>It wasn't long before the Reply All producers caught wind of how their podcast was being used - and they appeared to approve.&#xa0;</p><p>Wanting to hear what the latest in the peach tree saga was, Business Insider called up Dubbin to talk about his experience, and what he took away from it.</p><p>"<span style="font-weight: 400;">It brought me so much joy to see the joy that it was bringing other people," Dubbin said, regarding the reactions on Twitter. "I think that kind of joy is like the true essence of peaches."</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dubbin said he wasn't even sure that playing podcasts would be effective, or why conversations were said to be more effective at repelling bears than just music. "Honestly it had just been an inkling," he said. "And then we saw this bear and it became so real that I felt like I had to do everything in my power, sort of just grab at the best theory I had. It felt like one of those split-second decisions on the bridge in Star Trek."</span></p><p>Dubbin expected the bear to simply wait until it was dark out to return, but he was wrong.</p><p>"<span style="font-weight: 400;">I thought it would avoid the daylight, but it didn't," he said. "I thought I had all day until it would come back at night under the cover of darkness, but it was more brazen than that. And it forced my hand."</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Perhaps the most insulting part of the ordeal was the bear's wastefulness with the peaches - not even bothering to finish one before moving on to the next one.&#xa0;</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">I was gonna say it felt like wasting a natural resource, but because it's a bear, I feel like it's hard to hold a bear to that standard," Dubbin said. "Having enjoyed a full peach harvest last year, &#xa0;I was very conscious of the fact that we were able to make use of all the fruit, and in a lot of very delicious and nourishing ways. And for me, seeing the peaches unused on the ground was really a symbol of lost potential."</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dubbin said his neighbors were very understanding after he explained why they were hearing voices at night, and he appreciates them "bearing with him" (pun likely not intended).</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although it's only been a few days, and the peach harvesting has just begun, Dubbin has high hopes for Belvis and its podcast-blaring sound barrier. He hasn't seen a bear return since setting the system up.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">We've taken six (peaches) off, so the harvest is just beginning," he said.
