In 2023, India generated roughly $590 billion in new <keyword id="22367734" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-wealth" source="keywords">financial wealth</keyword>, marking its largest increase in the history. India will add about $730 billion annually to the overall growth of the region through 2028. The report says <keyword id="19894886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="China" source="keywords">China</keyword> and India are positioned to drive global <keyword id="20231223" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wealth-creation" source="keywords">wealth creation</keyword>, "Notably, China and India are positioned to drive wealth creation, having collectively generated $588 billion in financial wealth in 2023. India is expected to add about $730 billion annually to the overall growth by 2028," said Yashraj Erande, India Leader Financial Services, BCG. Financial wealth in the Asia-Pacific region grew by only 5.1% in 2023, predominantly due to a slowdown in wealth creation in China. However, the report anticipates a significant increase through 2028, with the Asian region likely to contribute nearly 30% of new financial wealth by 2028. The report also observed that global net wealth registered a growth of 4.3% in 2023, following a decline of 4% in 2022. Much of this growth was due to a rebound in the financial market, as financial wealth, a subset of global net wealth, rose by almost 7% after a 4% decline in 2022. Looking ahead, the report estimates that $92 trillion of financial wealth will be created over the next five years. It also noted that Generative AI (GenAI) will play a crucial role in the digital transformation of <keyword id="21006652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wealth-managers" source="keywords">wealth managers</keyword>, with use cases along the entire value chain. "The financial wealth market has seen an uptick in the last year since its slump in 2022. The trajectory has been fairly well but not as good as it was between 2014-2021. For the wealth creation market to go back to its previous era the condition should continue to be favourable" added Erande. The report also highlighted that financial wealth in North America and Western Europe bounced back in 2023. Supported by strong equity markets, North America was among the fastest-growing regions, accounting for over 50% of all new financial wealth in 2023. The recovery was not as strong in Western Europe, where financial wealth rose by 4.4%. "Wealth creation resumed in 2023--but even so, wealth managers cannot afford to stand still. To capitalize on growing global wealth, industry players, among others, will need to set a clear digital transformation strategy and leverage GenAI to manage costs and improve client experience," said Michael Kahlich, a managing director and partner at BCG and a co-author of the report. The report stated that the most remarkable growth dynamics emerged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE is currently the world's seventh-largest booking centre and is expected to surpass the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man as the sixth-largest by 2028. Hong Kong's anticipated rise to become the top global financial hub was stalled by a temporary but significant slowdown in Chinese inflow. Singapore now appears to be in a position to challenge Hong Kong's rise over the long term. Switzerland remains the largest booking centre worldwide, growing in line with its historical average of 4.8% and gaining the most wealth in absolute dollar terms. However, Switzerland and other European cross-border booking centres, including the UK and Luxembourg, are growing at a slower pace than Singapore, the UAE, and the US. This shift is occurring mostly because of a stronger demand for geographic diversification, reflecting a continued surge in wealth generation in Middle Eastern and Asian markets.

India and China to drive new wealth creation globally, Asia to contribute 30% of new wealth, says BCG report

<ul class="summary-list"><li>You probably don't think about <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube">YouTube</a> enough, even though it's enormous.</li><li>It's also unique: It's the only big platform that routinely shares a big chunk of its revenue with its creators.</li></ul>We've had YouTube around for so long — it turns 20 next year — that it's easy to take the service for granted. Even though <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-valuation-mrbeast-how-much-worth-2024-3">the world's biggest video site is a giant business</a>, a huge cultural engine, and, a bit weirdly, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-tv-fourth-biggest-pay-tv-cable-broadband-bundle-google-2024-2">a growing cable TV operator</a>.Which means that Neal Mohan, YouTube's CEO, flies under the radar a bit, too. But he shouldn't: His decisions on everything from how YouTube pays the people who make its videos to how it handles misinformation are enormously consequential.I talked to Mohan about both of those topics, and much more, during a recent interview, and you can listen to the entire thing over at <a target="_blank" href="https://link.chtbl.com/kafka">Channels</a>, the weekly podcast I host.But in these edited excerpts, I focused on two things: YouTube's long-standing practice of sharing half its revenue with many of the people who upload videos onto the site — which is unusual for a big internet platform — and how Mohan will handle claims of election fraud around the upcoming US presidential election.Mohan is pretty skilled at not saying things he doesn't want to say — he spoke to me a day after <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/16/technology/google-antitrust-youtube-ceo.html">testifying</a> in one of the federal government's two antitrust cases against <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google">Google</a>, his parent company — but I think you can still get a sense of what he's thinking here.One thing I think about a lot is the fact that you guys are the only major <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/onlyfans-business-profit-success-porn-user-generated-content-2024-9">non-pornographic</a> platform to hand out a significant chunk of revenue to people who make the videos. [Your payout] is 55% for a regular video. Why do you think none of your competitors at Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat have instituted a system like the one you guys have?It's a good question. Why do you think that's the case?It's expensive.[nods]You're nodding. This is an audio medium, but you're nodding.I guess what I would say is we are really proud of the fact that we're not just the original, but the largest creator economy.And creators, when they speak with me, they're fundamentally focused on two things. First and foremost, of course, is helping them find and build an audience. Without that, nothing else matters.But the second thing is lots of creative people want to earn a living. They want to build a business on YouTube. And so those are the two fundamental conversations we have. And the last three years, as you know, we've paid out $70 billion to the creator economy. That is something we are enormously proud of.But to be a devil's advocate — don't you look at the folks at Instagram, the folks at TikTok, and go "They're building huge businesses. Creators seem to be making stuff for them. They're not getting anything out of it, or they're getting very little compared to what we pay. I wish we could pay less." Do you have that conversation?Our mission is to give everyone a voice and show them the world that's core to what we do. And you can't do that in any meaningful way without also giving [creators] the means to build a livelihood on the platform.But instead of 55%, it could be 25%, right? It would still be better than any other deal you get anywhere else. You're still providing all those tools. People are still going to use you because you're still cutting bigger checks than anybody else. Why not do that?I am a firm believer that the real path to success here is to grow the overall pie … as opposed to thinking about whether the share should be X or Y.You rolled out <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/shorts">Shorts</a> a couple of years ago. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-shorts-gains-on-tiktok-as-app-for-music-fans-2024-7">It's your TikTok clone</a>, and that has a different payout. It's 45% instead of 55%. Why is that a lower percentage?Well, the mechanics of Shorts monetization work a little bit differently. The modality is consumption in a feed that you're scrolling through. So those dollars are pooled as opposed to the way that they work in kind of traditional YouTube long-form, with the ads being associated with the videos. So, just even the concept of rev share, just there at a base level, is a bit different.There are other things also that go into producing and having Shorts content created that are just different in terms of the cost structure. A lot of Shorts is about creation within the platform. So there's a lot of resources we invest in to make it so that those creation tools are effective, that all those filters and effects work the way that they do, so that they get distributed in the feed. So it's just a different set of services that we offer to creators vs. long-form, which, as you know, traditionally has grown up through people just uploading to YouTube.So your costs are greater.There's just a lot of tools and services that we provide in that context, the mobile creation context, that traditional long-form YouTube videos didn't have as that side of the business.So here's a hypothetical, but not that hypothetical scenario. I assume you have thought about it: We're going to have an election in November, and there's a scenario where Donald Trump loses — is declared the loser by news organizations — and Donald Trump and his allies say, "This is not true. We're going to fight this. We're going to basically replay <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trumps-stop-the-steal-lie-bigger-threat-russiagate-2021-10">Stop the Steal</a>." Have you thought about how you're going to handle people saying that the election was fraudulent?I'll say a few things. First, just like 2020 and 2022 and the dozens and dozens of elections around the world, responsibility is our top priority. I have a team that is focused on election integrity. We just concluded the world's largest election that happened over six, seven weeks, in India, where we went through a lot of this and had to remain vigilant. And the US election is not going to be different in that context. And so all the tools that we have learned have been effective here are going to be tools and capabilities that we're going to have in place.I'll explain the hierarchy [of our plan] from my standpoint, which is first and foremost — and really, where a lot of the action happens on a platform like YouTube — making sure that we're actually raising up content that comes from authoritative sources.You go to YouTube, you're looking for information. And so you should get it from those types of sources, whether that's CNN or The New York Times or Fox News. That's going to be first and foremost.It's not what gets talked a lot about, but that's actually what users experience.Our election integrity rules of the road are pretty clear. We are going to enforce those regardless of what happens there.But the other thing that's also very important is we have these core principles, but we also need to remain flexible to what's actually happening in the environment. And we will be in this case as well.If we have a replay of 2020, where this year's equivalent of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/rudy-giuliani">Rudy Giuliani</a> is running around with Donald Trump saying, "There's fraud here, there's fraud there," making up claims — you guys aren't in a position to evaluate whether they're making up those claims. Do you allow them to put those on YouTube? Do you allow people to report on those claims?Generally speaking, we are an open platform of really wide political discourse. And, as you know, leading up to an election, post an election, a lot of that political discourse is very heated, lots of opinions flying around. And the basis for how YouTube works is we allow for that content to exist and for people to access that content. But what's also happening is this content from authoritative sources, news sources that are actually covering the details, the analysis rises to the top in recommendations, but you also see it very visibly in the breaking news shelf when you open up the app when you're searching for that type of information.You keep asking about what stays up and what comes down. But what I'm trying to say is that a lot of what's actually important to the user experience is a lot of these partnerships that we have with news organizations and whose content actually shows up.That sounds totally reasonable to me, but I live in reality. I'm a fact-based person. But there's going to be people who go, "What happened to so-and-so conspiracy theorist? The video is still there, but you're not pushing it to me. Instead, you're showing me the biased news from ABC or CNN or New York Times, and you're not giving me what I want. You are engaged in bias, you're engaged in some sort of censorship."We can do a couple of things. First is, we have to be clear in terms of our principles, like hopefully I've been able to articulate for you here. And then we have to be transparent about what our community guidelines are, and then we have to do our best to actually enforce against those. And we're going to get criticized regardless of the types of decisions make, but our duty is to be principled about it, transparent about it, and to have really high-quality enforcement around our rules of the road.Do you ever sort of look longingly over at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-brazil-free-speech-content-moderation-fines-seizure-2024-9">Elon Musk and what he's doing at Twitter</a> and go, "Man, my job would be much easier if we just didn't really involve ourselves in moderation very much at all?"I think that our approach to responsibility, how we think about our community guidelines, is core to how YouTube operates. It's what our users expect of us, it's what our creators expect, and it's what our advertisers and brand partners expect on YouTube. YouTube's CEO on hefty creator payouts, election deniers, and the NBA: Q&A

The paper titled 'Income and Wealth Inequality in India, 1922-2023: The Rise of the Billionaire Raj' said between 2014-15 and 2022-23, the rise of top-end inequality has been particularly pronounced in terms of wealth concentration. The paper authored by <keyword id="21027543" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="thomas-piketty" source="keywords">Thomas Piketty</keyword> (<keyword id="21028261" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paris-school-of-economics-and-world-inequality-lab" source="keywords">Paris School of Economics and World Inequality Lab</keyword>), <keyword id="21028259" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lucas-chancel" source="keywords">Lucas Chancel</keyword> (Harvard Kennedy School and <keyword id="21028262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-inequality-lab" source="keywords">World Inequality Lab</keyword>) and Nitin <keyword id="21028260" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kumar-bharti" source="keywords">Kumar Bharti</keyword> (New York University and World Inequality Lab). "Between 2014-15 and 2022-23, the rise of top-end inequality has been particularly pronounced in terms of wealth concentration. "By 2022-23, top 1 per cent income and wealth shares (22.6 per cent and 40.1 per cent) are at their highest historical levels and India's top 1 per cent income share is among the very highest in the world, higher than even South Africa, Brazil, and the US," the paper said. According to the paper, the Indian income tax system might be regressive when viewed from the lens of net wealth. "A restructuring of the tax code to account for both income and wealth, and broad-based public investments in health, education and nutrition are needed to enable the average Indian, and not just the elites, to meaningfully benefit from the ongoing wave of globalisation," it noted. As per the paper, besides serving as a tool to fight inequality, a "super tax" of 2 per cent on the net wealth of the 167 wealthiest families in 2022-23 would yield 0.5 per cent of national income in revenues and create valuable fiscal space to facilitate such investments. The paper said the quality of economic data in India is notably poor and has seen a decline recently. It said India's top 1 per cent population's income share appears to be among the highest in the world "behind only perhaps Peru, Yemen and a couple of other small countries". However, their average wealth has decreased by 9.3%. The India Rich List added 273 new entrants and 38 new billionaires over the last year. The number of dollar billionaires also went up to 259, up 38 as compared to last year. “The trends prove that India is a shining moon in a world that is staring at recession. While the China Rich List has dropped 10% for each of this year and last year, both in terms of average wealth and in terms of the number of people that make the list. India is closing the gap,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and Chief Researcher, Hurun India. India has 259 billionaires, up 38 compared to last year. While industrial products, metals &amp; mining added the greatest number of new entrants to the list. Pharma still holds the numero uno position and contributed 133 entrants to the list. “Over the past five years, many entrepreneurs have witnessed extraordinary wealth growth, some experiencing an astonishing 1,000% surge. Construction and engineering emerge as the top gainers in the top 100 list, followed closely by pharmaceuticals which has a cut-off of ₹20,000 crore,” said Anirudha Taparia, co-founder and joint CEO, 360 ONE Wealth. Funding winter &amp; founders’ wealth While 264 in the Indian rich list saw their wealth drop in the last one year, there were as many as 55 dropouts. The most notable of the dropouts is Byju Raveendran. The founder of edtech Byju’s exited the list on the back of investor markdowns. The funding winter and its ripple effects led to startup founders on the list experiencing a collective wealth dip of ₹85,000 crore. Recent policies, like the retrospective GST imposition on gaming companies and the angel tax and so on, could potentially hinder long-term wealth generation by startups, Hurun said. However, a few IPOs that stumbled last year did make a comeback. As new-age internet companies gain in value, entrepreneurs like Deepinder Goyal of Zomato and Yashish Dahiya of PB Fintech have seen their wealth increase by over 70%. Startup wealth creation will persist, albeit within a changing landscape, Junaid said. The IPO stars: Public issues and rich list debuts The stock markets also rewarded many public debuts and made their founders into billionaires. Ramesh Kunhikannan’s Kaynes Technology made a strong stock market debut. And he entered the list with a wealth of ₹8,200 crore. The spectacular listing gains provided by stock market debuts of many companies have pulled their owners into the rich list. Some of them include Jagdish Prasad Chowdhary of Titagarh Wagons, Ranjit Pendurthi of Archean Chemical Industries and Ajay P Thakker &amp; family of Jupiter Life Line Hospitals. Pavan Kumar Bajaj and Karan Bajaj of Electronics Mart India and Harsha Engineers’ Harish Rangwala and Rajendra Shantilal Shah too entered the coveted list of richest Indians after their stocks skyrocketed on debut. But there is money to be made in private markets too. Manish Kejriwal of Kedaara Capital became the first Indian Private Equity fund manager to enter the list.
