Indian students are enhancing their digital capabilities by taking up courses in artificial intelligence, blockchain and machine learning. According to the online learning platform Coursera, artificial Intelligence is the most in-demand subject, followed by its specialisations. As many as 2 million enrolled in the course in 2019. “With the growing relevance of new age skills needed to keep pace with the changing workplace, employers are acknowledging the importance for stackable credentials. Therefore, there is a need to upskill talent and to advance careers, increase employability, and boost businesses,” said Raghav Gupta, managing director of Coursera- India and APAC. From a basic course targeting a layman to understand — AI for everyone — to tech centric programming and machine learning concepts, it is safe to say that 2019 has been a year of AI. “In India, we have observed more and more executives and C-suite level officials have been enrolling in AI courses over the past year realizing its significant impact on business,” Gupta added. Here are the 10 most popular courses of 2019, according to Coursera. Machine Learning by Stanford University Machine learning has been the most sought after online course. It includes modules on introduction to machine learning, pattern recognition, and data mining techniques. It also provides access to case studies and applications to understand the algorithms. Programming for everybody (Getting started with Python) by University of Michigan University of Michigan’s “Programming for everyone” is the second most popular course in the country after Stanford’s Machine Learning. The course educates on basics of Python programming language. It includes tutorials on writing short codes in Python that requires understanding of simple mathematics. Neural Networks and Deep learning by deeplearning.ai With the advent of AI and automation, deep learning engineers are much in demand. The course helps learners understand technologies behind deep learning algos, neural networks — its architecture and implementation. It will teach how deep learning works, practically. AI for everyone by deeplearning.ai Not just techies, AI for everyone targets learners from all sectors and levels. The course introduces AI terminologies — data science concepts, machine learning, deep learning among others. The programme will teach how to build an AI strategy to increase productivity. Presently, the company has 50,000 employees in India. While Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, reportedly called it ‘shock and awe’, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor, told the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/two-wheelers-three-wheelers/india-inc-wants-nitis-ev-juggernaut-to-move-out-of-the-fast-lane/articleshow/69920504.cms">Economic Times</a> that the government seemed to “negate in one stroke” the strides made by India in building the world’s largest <keyword id="411149" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="two-wheeler-market">two wheeler market</keyword>. While Bajaj and TVS argued for more reasonable timelines, Pawan Munjal who heads India’s largest two-wheeler company, Hero Moto Corp, did not even attend the meeting on Friday. Further, the companies argued for fiscal incentives to promote manufacturing and sales of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. “I’m in awe of the apparent willingness to subsidise EVs — an approximate ₹1 lakh per vehicle — to help achieve reasonable price parity with ICE two- and three- wheelers for an estimated minimum industry size of 25 million by 2025,” Bajaj said. However, the Niti Aayog reportedly has the support from two-wheeler EV startups, represented by Tarun Mehta, founder of Alther Energy, and Sulajja Motwani of the Firodia group. However, the current manufacturing capacity of the startups is too low to meet the government’s target.

<ul><li>The Human Resource Development Ministry (MHRD) has asked the 23 IITs to plan a course of action to improve rankings on national and global scale. </li><li>This is in reference to the <keyword id="6513530" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="times-higher-education">Times Higher Education</keyword> (THE) rankings and <keyword id="990919" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Quacquarelli-Symonds">Quacquarelli Symonds</keyword> (QS) World University rankings. </li><li>The international rank of India’s elite Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) has slipped further this year and none of these premier institutions has featured in the top 100 universities in these global higher education surveys.</li></ul>The Human Resource Development Ministry (MHRD) is taking the international rankings of its institutions seriously. It has asked the 23 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) to plan a course of action to improve them. The international ranking of IITs slipped further this year. None of these premier institutions featured in the top 100 universities in the global higher education surveys. "The issue was discussed in the IIT Council meeting. It is important to work on research excellence. The IITs have been asked to work on improving their national and international rankings. This move came after Times Higher Education (THE) rankings and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings. According to the THE rankings, only six Indian institutions were spotted in the top 500 universities, globally. None of the Indian universities — including IITs and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) — made it to the top 100 list. Indian government demands an action plan from IITs to improve global rankings

KCET 2020 was held in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic, requiring the organisers to take extra precautionary measures, including physical distancing and sanitisation. It was held on July 30 and 31 at 497 examination centres across the state, with only 1.75 lakh candidates of the 1.94 lakh applicants appearing. Among the examinees were 63 students infected with coronavirus, for whom separate examination centres were set up at Covid Care Centres under the supervision of medical professionals. Likewise, the examination for students suffering from symptoms such as fever and cough was also conducted in separate rooms.
