They also tried to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-states-ranked-by-travel-blogger-visited-each-multiple-times-2024-3">hit every state</a>, taking shorter trips across the US to knock off the remaining ones. A few years ago, they hit their last two states: North Dakota and New Hampshire.Hatfield said he and his wife cut costs by cooking most of their meals on their trips and staying in as much as possible."When we go on most of our trips, unlike some of our friends, dining is not at the top of the list," Hatfield said. "The state parks or regional parks in Canada don't cost as much, and they usually have some very nice scenery, though sometimes, they're a little bit off the beaten path."The couple also went on various international trips, hitting over 75 countries. They took a bus trip through the Bavarian Alps, explored Dubai, took a cruise across the Greek islands, and went on an expedition to Antarctica. They spent two weeks driving across Ireland, took a river cruise from Basel to Amsterdam, and went on a mission trip to Egypt.Over the last four years, they have concentrated on hitting <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-worst-national-parks-usa-from-man-visited-each-one-2024-4">all national parks</a>. They hit 17 during trips in the 1990s and mid-2000s, though they visited over half of them starting in 2020. One of their first national parks-focused trips was to Alaska, where they hit all but two. They also took a road trip through California, hitting all but Redwood National Park due to RV trouble; they flew to Redwood earlier this month.To get the remaining <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-unique-national-parks-in-us-according-to-frequent-traveler">national parks</a>, they went to Isle Royale National Park in Michigan en route to the two in Alaska they missed — Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley. They also have a cruise scheduled to American Samoa, home of the National Park of American Samoa, their last national park.<h2 id="07d2ff34-af5d-4449-9449-32673cfcc5ba">Favorite and least favorite states</h2>Hatfield acknowledged his favorite states were also the ones with the most diverse national parks. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-california-utah-cost-of-living-san-diego-weather-slc-2024-7">Utah</a> took the top spot, boasting five national parks — including his two favorites. His favorite sites, besides the national parks, are the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, the Great Salt Lake, and downtown Salt Lake City.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/california-national-parks-to-visit-instead-of-yosemite-from-local">California</a> ranked second on his list, as it has eight national parks with their own character. He noted that he stayed away from the major cities on his trips to California.He ranked <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alaska-mistakes-to-avoid-from-local">Alaska</a> third for similar reasons, admiring the vast outdoors and wildlife. He said it's not cheap to get to Alaska, though taking an RV cuts some costs because "there are a lot of places where you can pull over on the side of the road and sleep in your vehicle." He added that driving through Canada en route to Alaska saves some money because of conversion rates.He said he visits <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/living-in-colorado-after-traveling-to-all-50-states">Colorado</a>, his fourth favorite, nearly every summer, pointing out Colorado's expansive mountains, fairly consistent temperatures with low humidity, and strong infrastructure.His last pick for the top five is Montana, which he acknowledged is a polarizing state given its "big and wide open" nature. Still, he said he treasures Montana's scenery and serenity, as well as its national parks, including Yellowstone and Glacier.On the flip side, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/economic-boom-south-poorest-states-us-mississippi-west-virginia-arkansas-2024-7">Mississippi</a> is his least favorite, noting there wasn't much there that Louisiana didn't also have. He also said the same about Nebraska, which was monotonous and fairly flat, and Indiana, which he viewed as "nothing special."<h2 id="6c0af6c5-9653-40f2-a119-5dd7eeb9c34c">Favorite and least favorite national parks</h2>Hatfield said he enjoyed every national park, though some have more to offer than others. He and his wife try to take five-mile hikes in each park to see the top destinations.His favorite park is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/favorite-us-national-parks-according-to-former-ranger-2024-4">Zion</a>, particularly hiking The Narrows, aptly named because it is the narrowest section of the canyon. The hike has no trail, as it traverses the Virgin River. Hatfield also praised Angels Landing, a strenuous and steep hike with chains offering some of the best views of the park.His second favorite is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/national-parks-biggest-mistakes-people-make-on-first-visit-guide">Bryce Canyon</a>, noting he greatly enjoyed The Needles, a series of zebra-striped sandstone spires. He said the hikes weren't too difficult, and the scenery was stunning."All five national parks in Utah are fairly close, and you could hit all five in a week easily," Hatfield said, noting this is one of the most economical options for knocking a few of the parks out.One of his earliest and most memorable national parks was Yosemite, which he visited 15 years ago. His hikes took him through the wilderness and snow-capped mountains, and he saw sites like Half Dome and El Capitan.His fourth and fifth favorites are Crater Lake and North Cascades, both in the Pacific Northwest, both on the same trip. He said he couldn't believe how blue Crater Lake was and how pristine North Cascades' mountains and hills were.Conversely, their least favorite so far has been Congaree in South Carolina, which he said was "just a boardwalk that went through a cypress tree." He said that because Louisiana has a lot of cypress trees, there wasn't anything in the park that impressed him.He wasn't a fan of Hot Springs in Arkansas, which he said was too small with few hiking opportunities. He also thought some of the park's amenities were somewhat run-down.He had similar comments about Guadalupe Mountains in Texas, which he viewed as fairly monotonous with little greenery or waterways.He enjoyed the scenery of Isle Royale, though he didn't enjoy the two-hour boat ride to get there or the limited hiking trails. Coming to the display, the smartphone comes with a 10-bit 6.7-inch 1.5K curved pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 2000 nits brightness. To make use of this, you need to change to the natural mode. During my testing, the natural mode worked well. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and features an in-display fingerprint sensor. The high refresh rate and colour accuracy make it a great option for those looking to play games or consume content. The high brightness ensures that you do not have to worry about using the device in direct sunlight. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software and performance" comment="subhead" text="Software and performance">Software and performance</cmsannotation> The Motorola Edge 50 Pro runs on Android 14 out of the box with the company’s new Hello UI on top. The smartphone will get three years of Android updates and five years of security updates. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and comes with up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. While it is a decent chipset, the company could have offered a more powerful chipset, in line with other smartphones in the segment. The device offers a good gaming experience, even with Full HD graphics. I tried popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and Call of Duty: Mobile on the smartphone. The smartphone is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 125W fast charging support and 50W wireless charging support. At a time when a lot of devices more expensive than the Edge 50 Pro do not offer wireless charging, it is good to see 50W wireless charging on the device. While the 12GB variant comes with a 125W charger in the box, the base variant only offers a 68W charger in the box, which might be a letdown for many. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera">Camera</cmsannotation> Coming to the camera department, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is equipped with a triple camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom. Coming to low light conditions, the device is able to capture decent images with minimal noise. On the front, the device comes with a 50MP selfie camera that offers features such as AI adaptive stabilisation, AI photo enhancement and autofocus tracking. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is a good device that ticks a lot of right boxes, including a premium design, good display, decent cameras and fast charging support. It does miss out on a more powerful chipset and comes with a slightly smaller battery. If you are looking for a smartphone with a good design and a clean user interface, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is a good option. However, if you are looking for a more powerful smartphone, the Oppo Reno 11 Pro is worth considering, but it misses out on a vegan leather back and does not offer wireless charging. Motorola Edge 50 Pro review – a feature-packed smartphone with good design

I visited all 50 states and ranked them from my least favorite travel spot to my top pick

Two years earlier, he wasn't sure if achieving the feat would be possible.Forhane, a credit review manager for a bank, had a longtime goal of visiting <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-worst-50-states-ranked-retired-boomer-all-national-parks-2024-8">all 50 states</a>, though a serious health emergency in early 2020 put a wrench in his plans. He was out of commission for a few months, then had to postpone travel plans after the outbreak of the pandemic. However, by the end of the year, Forhane was back to traveling to hit his <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/50-states-ranked-according-to-frequent-traveler-2024-8">final few states</a>.Forhane has also been to 45 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/relocate-chiang-mai-thailand-affordable-quality-of-life-best-city-2024-7">countries</a>, his favorites being Sweden, Japan, and Chile. He's also traveled to Azerbaijan, Tanzania, Malaysia, and Russia."When I was younger, I didn't plan on driving around the country, and I never have still. I've been to all these places randomly, and I'm just surprised at how much there is to see in the US," Forhane said. He and his family took vacations in states such as California, Florida, and Hawaii, though he said that his parents "weren't very creative with traveling."He moved with his family to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-california-utah-cost-of-living-san-diego-weather-slc-2024-7">California</a>, where he attended college and explored the West Coast. He then moved to Seattle for work for seven years, visiting states including Idaho and Montana. He took two trips to Alaska, where he rented a car and explored the major cities."When I lived in Seattle, a very large portion of the people I knew had never been to Alaska due to the cost and the remoteness," Forhane said.He <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-to-new-york-city-nyc-weather-expensive-jersey-city-2024-1">moved to New York City</a> in 2012, getting to visit many New England states he didn't hit growing up. He said he rarely travels for work, meaning he's had to visit many states during vacations or quicker weekend trips, often on federal holidays. Having three airports close by allowed him to take nonstop flights across the country for relatively affordable prices.While in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-to-seattle-leaving-georgia-atlanta-cost-of-living-millennial-2024-1">Seattle</a> and New York City, he would take trips to cities he'd never visited, noting he prefers exploring cities over parks. In each state, he said he would spend a few days attending concerts, visiting museums, and trying the local food scene.He said he'd kept trips affordable by taking public transit and staying at hotels on the outskirts of downtowns. However, that January, Forhane had a medical emergency that sent him to the ER."I was sitting on a gurney, and one of the things that went through my head was, I'm not going to be able to hit all 50 states," Forhane said. "Because of that, I said, if I get out of here, I want to do this."After his recovery two months later, he crafted a plan to visit Michigan, Alabama, New Mexico, and Kansas. Because of the pandemic, he pushed back his travel plans — including a trip he planned in March to Ukraine and Poland."My mom talks about wanting to see things, how she's always wanted to see the world, but now that she's older, there are many places she didn't get to see," Forhane said. "I feel that seeing older relatives not being able to do certain things they've wanted to do gave me the idea that if I want to do something, I probably should do it as soon as possible rather than waiting until later. There's no guarantee that it will work out."In September 2020, he spent a few days in Traverse City, Michigan, choosing a smaller, less crowded city where he could stay safe from COVID-19. He later flew to Alabama, where he spent time on the Gulf Coast and Birmingham, and then New Mexico.For his last state, he had a friend who lives in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/leaving-texas-moving-to-missouri-retirement-expensive-cost-of-living-2024-5">Missouri</a> who offered to drive from Kansas City into Kansas proper. A few of his friends flew him for his final state, after which they celebrated at a barbecue joint."That was a big to-do since they were able to come with me; it wasn't like landing in a random airport by myself for my 50th state," Forhane said.<h2 id="2c0f3447-94a1-4488-8821-1c886d9c8382">Favorite states</h2>Forhane said his favorite state is tied between <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-texas-oregon-left-red-state-blue-politics-2024-2">Oregon</a> and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retired-early-moved-to-rv-be-close-to-family-2024-8">Washington</a>, as both have cities so close to tranquil forests and mountains. He misses living in Seattle and spending time amid evergreen trees and lakes outside the city.In Oregon, he said Portland is one of his favorite cities, located close to Mount Hood and the Pacific coastline. That's why he ranked <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-from-florida-to-california-pros-cons-los-angeles-orlando-2023-11">Florida</a> as one of his least favorite states.He said he's spent much of his life visiting friends and family in Florida, seeing "more of Florida than most people would ever want to." He said the heat and humidity, the traffic, and frequent storms and floods led him to put Florida at the bottom of his list.He didn't love Louisiana, noting New Orleans was a historic city to see once but not his favorite given the large crowds.He said he wants to revisit Arizona and Nevada to explore some of the more underrated parts of those states.
