<ul class="summary-list"><li>Doha Hamad International Airport in Qatar tops Stytrax's world's best airports list for 2024.</li><li>Only European and Asian airports made the top 10, with none in the US even breaking the top 20.</li></ul><p>In its 25th year of judging airports based on passenger surveys, the aviation ranking website <a target="_blank" href="https://www.worldairportawards.com/awards-methodology/">Stytrax</a> revealed on Thursday the world's best airports for 2024.</p><p>The results are based on customer surveys collected between August 2023 and March 2024 that ask about the airport experience from curb to gate.</p><p>Of 570 airports worldwide, Doha Hamad International Airport in Qatar beat out Singapore Changi Airport in what has been a back-and-forth battle for years. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-20-best-airports-in-world-according-to-passengers-list-2023-3">Doha won in both 2021 and 2022</a> but took second to Changi last year. </p><p>Among the top 10 were only European and Asian airports —<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/skytrax-airport-rankings-american-terrible-seattle-laguardia-doha-singapore-2024-4"> none in the US made the cut</a>. In fact, the only North American airport to break the top 20 was Vancouver International Airport in Canada at number 17. </p><p>Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was the highest-ranking US airport on Skytrax's 2024 list but came in at only number 24, according to Skytrax. It made the top 20 last year at number 18.</p><p>New York City metro airports, including LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, made the top 100 at numbers 33 and 93, respectively. Both have seen <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/laguardia-and-newark-have-5-star-terminals-after-dramatic-turnaround-2024-4">multibillion-dollar improvement projects</a> in recent years.</p><p>Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, meanwhile, notched an award for<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/see-inside-newark-airports-3-billion-terminal-a-upgrade-2022-11"> the best new terminal of 2024</a>. Australia comes in first.</p><p>What's more, air quality in the US has been declining after decades of improvement, according to reporting from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-air-quality-is-slipping-after-years-of-improvement-2019-6">the Associated Press</a>. According to the 2019 <a href="https://www.lung.org/assets/documents/healthy-air/state-of-the-air/sota-2019-full.pdf">"State of the Air" report</a> from the American Lung Association (ALA) - which compiled pollution data from 2015 to 2017 - the 25 US cities with the worst air pollution are mostly located in eight states.</p><p>California topped the list, followed by Oregon and Washington.  </p><p>Los Angeles is the city with the worst ozone pollution - LA has topped that list in 19 of the last 20 of these reports. The area of California around Fresno, Madera, and Hanford was found to have the most year-round particle pollution, while Bakersfield, California was the city with the worst short-term particle pollution.</p><div title="Page 4"><p>There are myriad health risks associated with air pollution, including reduced lung function and increased risk of asthma. To avoid penalizing Chick-fil-A and other smaller chains, we only considered responses from people who said they visited a chain in the last six months <em>and</em> who said the brand was the best in a category. </p><p>In-N-Out regularly snagged the No. 2 spot in most categories, including best food and cleanest restaurants. But, Chick-fil-A's dominance is clear. </p><p>Why is Chick-fil-A thriving in a way other chains cannot imitate? </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><p>One thing that sets Chick-fil-A apart from rivals is that franchisees are only allowed to open a single location.</p><p>They don't have to pay much - unlike other chains - but the process of getting approved is extremely drawn-out and difficult. Once these franchisees have fought to be a part of the system, they are hands-on in making sure their locations are clean and offering top-notch service, which helps explain Chick-fil-A's high scores. </p><p>This model and other aspects of Chick-fil-A's business have helped the chain become one of the most successful in fast food. </p><p>The chain is the third largest in the US by sales, growing revenue by 16.7% in 2018 to reach nearly $10.5 billion, according to <a href="https://www.nrn.com/data-research/top-200-restaurants">Nation's Restaurant News.</a> Over the past decade, it has nearly tripled its annual sales.</p>

Chick-fil-A dominates fast-food rankings, from cleanest locations to best food

A report by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cse&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Centre for Science and Environment</a> (CSE) has stated Alappuzha in Kerala, Panaji and Mysuru are the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cleanest+cities+in+india&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">cleanest cities in India</a>.<br />

The survey-‘Not in my backyard’-, which is based on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=waste+management&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">solid waste management</a> practises in towns in India, placed Delhi at the "bottom of the heap".<br />
<br /> "Alappuzha, Panaji and Mysuru are three of the <keyword id="3487316" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cleanest-cities-in-India">cleanest cities in India</keyword>, with municipal waste management systems that actually work. CSE rated Indian cities on their management of solid waste - metros like Delhi feature at the bottom of the heap," a latest rating by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said.<br />

"This book started as a survey, we wanted to simply know which city is India's cleanest. We knew that once we found out which is the cleanest, we would also find out what makes it so. This would give us the answers for future policy," said CSE Director General Sunita Narain.<br />
<br />
Noting that the last survey to understand quantity and composition of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=garbage&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">garbage</a> was done over a decade ago, CSE said that the methodology used to calculate waste generated is to simply extrapolate an assumed quantity estimate with the population.<br />
<br />
Referring to the Department of Economic Affairs position paper on solid waste management of 2009, CSE said that urban India was already producing some 80,000 MT of waste a day.<br />
<br />
It projected that by 2047, India would be producing 260 million tonnes of waste annually needing over 1,400 sq km of landfills which is an area equal to Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai put together, CSE said referring to the paper.<br />
<br />
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) estimates, over 90 per cent of Indian cities with a functional collection system dispose of their waste in landfills, CSE said. <br />

<br /> The <keyword id="3246333" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swachh-Sarvekshan">Swachh Sarvekshan</keyword> survey that gauged the impact of <keyword id="63500" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cleanliness-Drive">cleanliness drive</keyword> in 73 cities stated that Mysuru remained the cleanest of all, followed by Chandigarh and Tiruchirapalli.<br />
<br /> However, <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword>’s Varanasi constituency was among the 10 dirtiest cities and Dhanbad ranked the worst.<br />
<br />
A first such survey was done in 2014, which was a 476-city survey. Then also, Karnataka’s Mysuru had emerged as the winner.<br />
<br />
If we compare the two analysis, cities that have improved include Visakhapatnam, Surat, Rajkot and Gangtok.<br />

Meanwhile, the 10 dirtiest cities include Ghaziabad and Meerut.<br />

In Delhi, South and North Delhi Municipal Corporation improved rankings and were at 47 to 43, respectively.<br />

The organization uses global customer satisfaction surveys taken from 2021 to 2022 to determine the top airports. </p><p>According to SkyTrax, the surveys, which include over 550 airports worldwide, are the "quality benchmark for the world airport industry" and are "independent of any airport control, influence or input." </p><p>The survey covers things like terminal layout, comfort, seating, WiFi availability, restaurant options, retail vendors, and level of staff service, per the firm.</p><p>Doha's Hamad International Airport held onto its crown this year after being named the top airport in the world in 2021. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/skytrax-revealed-top-20-airports-in-the-world-for-2021-8">Last year was the first time in eight years</a> that Singapore's Changi International Airport was dethroned as the number one airport.</p><p>Among the top 20 airports in the world, there were 10 in Asia and 10 in Europe. Australia's Melbourne International Airport came in at number 26, while only two North American airports made the top 30, including Seattle-Tacoma and Vancouver.</p><p>Overall, 12 US airports managed to crack the top 100 list, while Canada only earned three spots. </p><p>Here's a closer look at the top 20 airports in the world, according to SkyTrax.</p><h2>20. Hong Kong International Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Hong Kong International Airport." height="768" width="1024" msid="92303807" hostid="261"></div><p>Hong Kong International Airport fell from number 10 in 2021 to number 20 this year. The airport is the gateway to Hong Kong, once serving as one of the largest cargo and passenger airports in the world. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the hub to lose significant traffic, and effectively fall "off the map," <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-06/hong-kong-has-fallen-off-map-as-aviation-hub-airline-group-says">Bloomberg reported</a>.</p><p>Despite the low numbers, it still earned the title of best airport with less than two million passengers, according to SkyTrax. The airport serves as a base for Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon, Hong Kong <keyword id="11898285" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="airlines" source="Orion">Airlines</keyword>, Hong Kong Express Airways, and cargo carrier Air Hong Kong.</p><h2>19. Vienna is also a focus city for Eurowings Europe, ultra-low-cost airline Ryanair, Korean Air Cargo, and Hungarian-based Wizz Air.</p><h2>18. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Terminal 2 at Guangzhou airport" height="3840" width="5119" msid="92303815" hostid="261"></div><p>China's Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport ranked number 18 in 2022, falling four spots from last year. Besides earning a top 20 spot, the airport also earned several other awards, including being the best airport in China, the cleanest airport in China, and the best airport with over 40 million passengers.</p><p>Guangzhou acts as a hub for China Southern Airlines, 9 Air, FedEx Express, Shenzhen Airlines, and Hainan Airlines, and as a focus city for China Eastern Airlines.</p><h2>17. The airport also earned an award for the best immigration processing. The airport is a major gateway to the United Arab Emirates, is one of the largest airports in the Middle East, and is a major cargo hub in the region. Dubai has become a key hub for Emirates, which operates the largest fleet of Airbus A380 jumbo jets. The airport is also home to FedEx Express and Flydubai.</p><h2>13. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Helsinki-Vantaa Airport." height="2654" width="3539" msid="92303834" hostid="261"></div><p>Finland's Helsinki-Vantaa Airport was named the number 11 best airport in the world for 2022, jumping two spots from last year. The airport also earned the title of the best airport in northern Europe. Helsinki is home to Finland flag carrier Finnair and Nordic regional airline Norra.</p><h2>10. Kansai International Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Kansai International Airport." height="768" width="1024" msid="92303837" hostid="261"></div><p>Rounding out the top 10 best airports is Kansai International Airport at number 10, which serves as the main gateway to the Greater Osaka region of Japan. In addition to making the top 10 list, Kansai earned two other awards, including the best low-cost terminal and the best airport for baggage delivery. All Nippon Airways, FedEx Express, Japan Airlines, Jetstar Japan, Nippon Cargo Airlines, and Peach are hubbed at Kansai.</p><h2>9. The airport is one of Switzerland's busiest airports, acting as a hub for Edelweiss Air and Swiss International Airlines. Zurich won a handful of additional awards, including being the best airport for security processing and being the cleanest airport in Europe.</p><h2>8. Istanbul Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Istanbul Airport." height="724" width="965" msid="92303842" hostid="261"></div><p>Located on the European side of Turkey, Istanbul Airport jumped nine spots from number 17 in 2021 to number 8 in 2022. The hub airport is new, officially opening in April 2019 and becoming the city's main international gateway. Istanbul Airport is still being expanded, and, by 2025, is set to become the world's largest airport by passenger traffic with the capability to handle 200 million travelers per year, <a href="https://istanbul-international-airport.com/">according to the airport</a>.</p><p>Istanbul is home to Turkish Airlines and won several other awards, including the best family-friendly airport, best airport shopping, best airport in southern Europe, and best airport with 30-40 million passengers.</p><h2>7. Munich Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Munich Airport." height="768" width="1024" msid="92303847" hostid="261"></div><p>Munich Airport stayed in the top 10 this year, only falling one spot from 2021. The airport earned several other awards, including being named the best airport in central Europe, being the best airport with 10 to 15 million passengers, and having the best airport hotel. Munich is one of the busiest in Germany by passenger traffic and acts as a hub for Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine. </p><h2>6. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport." height="1329" width="1773" msid="92303849" hostid="261"></div><p>Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport jumped nine spots from number 15 in 2021 to number six in 2022. The airport, which is one of the busiest in the world, was also named the best airport in Europe and the best airport in Western Europe. Charles de Gaulle is home to Air France, Air France Cargo, and FedEx Express.</p><h2>5. Incheon International Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Incheon International Airport." height="768" width="1024" msid="92303853" hostid="261"></div><p>Rounding out the top five airports in the world is South Korea's Incheon International Airport. The airport is a major international gateway and is home to several carriers, including Air Busan, Air Incheon, Air Seoul, Asiana Airlines, Eastar Jet, FedEx Express, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Polar Air Cargo, and T'way Air. Incheon is also a focus city for Thai Airways, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines.</p><h2>4.  Narita International Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Narita International Airport." height="768" width="1024" msid="92303855" hostid="261"></div><p>Japan's Narita International Airport stayed in the top five this year, coming in at number four. The airport is the second-largest in the city and a main international gateway into the Greater Tokyo region. Narita was named the best airport for five to 10 million passengers and serves as a hub for Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Jetstar Japan, Nippon Cargo Airlines, Peach, Spring Airlines Japan, and ZIPAIR Tokyo.</p><h2>3. <keyword id="14230226" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="singapore-changi-airport" source="Orion">Singapore Changi Airport</keyword></h2><div type="image" title="Singapore Changi Airport." height="1281" width="1709" msid="92303858" hostid="261"></div><p>After losing its crown in 2021, Singapore Changi Airport has been named the third-best airport in the world for 2022. The airport earned the top title from 2013 to 2020 but was beat out by Doha's Hamad International Airport last year.</p><p>Despite once-again falling short, the airport still won several awards this year, including best airport staff in the world and Asia, best airport dining, and best airport for two to five million passengers. Changi has several amenities, like a swimming pool and movie theater, and is home to Singapore Airlines, Jetstar Asia Airways, Scoot, and SilkAir.</p><h2>2. Tokyo International Airport</h2><div type="image" title="Tokyo International Airport." height="768" width="1024" msid="92303862" hostid="261"></div><p>Tokyo International Airport, commonly known as Haneda Airport, is once again the second-best airport in the world. The airport is the busier of the two airports serving Tokyo, having been restricted to just domestic and regional flying for many years. However, international flights were launched in 2010, and the airport is a convenient option for inbound passengers visiting Tokyo.</p><p>The airport won a handful of other awards this year, including being the world's cleanest airport, the world's best domestic airport, having the best accessible facilities, and being the best airport in Asia. Haneda is home to Air Do, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Skymark Airlines, and Skynet Asia Airways.</p><h2>1. Notably, no North American carriers made the top 10.</p><p>Skytrax, a British consulting firm, compiled the awards through an online survey across nine months, from September 2018 to May 2019, in six languages. This year, the company says, it saw "substantial increases" in voting in Spanish and Chinese.</p><p>Here are the top ten airlines with the best staff:</p>

These airlines have the best customer service

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li><strong>On Monday, President Trump tweeted out a map and said "America: the Cleanest Air in the World - BY FAR!"</strong></li><li><strong>But the map only shows us an estimate of how much very fine <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/air-quality" target="_blank" rel="noopener">particulate pollution is in the air</a>, which can come from gas emissions and exhaust, but also cooking fires, wood burning, and even dust storms.</strong></li><li><strong>It's not a surprise that the US has less of these particles floating around than some developing countries with fewer environmental regulations and more open cookfires, but it doesn't mean the US has the cleanest air.</strong></li></ul><p>On Monday, President Trump tweeted out a map, exclaiming that American air is the best air by far. That's not exactly true.</p><p>The map, grabbed from a World Health Organization <a href="http://www.who.int/airpollution/data/AAP_exposure_Apr2018_final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report out earlier this year</a>, is an estimate of how much ultra-fine particulate matter (PM) people are breathing in around the world. This kind of particulate matter is only one component of air pollution.</p><p>The map is tracking things like dust and other tiny particles floating around that are smaller than two and a half microns wide (what's sometimes referred to as "PM 2.5" pollution.) These super-fine particles are 30 times skinnier than a strand of human hair. Because they're so small, they can <a href="https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/indoors/air/pmq_a.htm">easily travel into the lungs</a>&#xa0;- a serious problem for people who already have breathing and heart issues. Heavy exposure over time can lead to reduced lung function and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-air-pollution-does-to-your-body-and-brain-2018-8">even death</a>.</p><p>Common sources of these pollutants include emissions from cars and other vehicles, as well as heating oil, coal, secondhand smoke, chemicals wafting from power plants, smoke from cooking, and even natural sources like forest fires.&#xa0;When the air is hazy, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-air-pollution-does-to-your-body-and-brain-2018-8">breathing it in can have dangerous, long-term</a> effects on the brain.</p><p>Air pollution expert Gabriele Pfister, the deputy director at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Atmospheric Chemistry Observations and Modeling Lab, told Business Insider that using the map to point out how crystal-clean US air may be is misleading, at best.&#xa0;</p><p>"America doesn't have the cleanest air in the world just because it's white on this map," she said, adding that it's no surprise that we have fewer PM 2.5 pollutants than some developing countries where people still cook over open flames and burn down forests for fuel.</p><p>According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aggregate emissions of six of the most common air pollutants have dropped 73% since 1970, when the agency<a href="https://www.epa.gov/clean-air-act-overview/evolution-clean-air-act">&#xa0;got serious</a> about cleaning up the air.&#xa0;</p><p>But the work isn't done. In 2014, the EPA estimated that between <a href="https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2014-05/documents/huff-particle.pdf">50,000 and 120,000 people</a> in the US die prematurely because of bad air. The agency also <a href="https://www.epa.gov/air-trends/air-quality-national-summary">notes on its website</a> that "d<span>espite great progress in air quality improvement, approximately 111 million people nationwide lived in counties with pollution levels above the primary&#xa0;</span><span>U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standards in 2017."&#xa0;</span></p><p>Check out this EPA map of counties that don't meet the Clean Air Act standards:</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>"PM 2.5 is one component of air pollution,"&#xa0;Pfister said.&#xa0;"If you look at ozone pollution, you will actually see that the US has quite a bit more ozone pollution than many regions in the developing world... that has to do with the ozone chemistry."</p><p>She worries about the air she breathes in Colorado, as <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2018/10/23/residents-sue-broomfield-drilling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more oil and gas operations open up</a> near schools, hospitals, and people's homes, hospitals.</p><p>"Specifically in the western US, we have leveled off. We are not clean," she said.</p><p>In terms of PM 2.5 pollution, the country with the world's cleanest air <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/most-least-toxic-countries-pollution-environment-2017-2#-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">is New Zealand</a>, while the US ranks seventh on the list.
