DeMille Award</span>&#xa0;(presented by equally-stunning speaker Viola Davis) and used her stage time to speak out against&#xa0;<span>President-elect Donald Trump&#xa0;</span>- though Streep never used his name.</p><p>Instead, she named several actors in the audience including&#xa0;Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Ruth Negga, and Dev Patel and spoke about how many of Hollywood's stars come from all over the world. Streep also made a plea to the people in the room to join with her in speaking out in favor of the press and encouraged everyone to celebrate the practice of empathy.</p><p>Scroll to read the full transcription, or watch the clip now:&#xa0;</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"I love you all but you'll have to forgive me - I've lost my voice in screaming and lamentation this weekend. And I had lost my mind sometime earlier this year so I have to read. Thank you Hollywood Foreign Press, just to pick up on what Hugh Laurie said you and all of us in this room, really, belong to the most vilified segments of American society right now. Think about it - Hollywood, foreigners, and the press.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">But who are we? And what is Hollywood, anyway? It's just a bunch of people from other places. I was born and raised and educated in the public schools of New Jersey. Viola [Davis] was born in a sharecropper's cabin in South Carolina and came up in Central Fall's Rhode Island. Sarah Paulson was born in Florida, raised by a single mom in Brooklyn. Sarah Jessica Parker was one of seven or eight kids from Ohio.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Amy Adams was born in Vincenza, Italy and Natalie Portman was born in Jeruselem. Where are their birth certificates? And the beautiful Ruth Negga was born in&#xa0;<span>Addis Ababa</span>, Ethiopia, raised in Ireland I do believe, and she's here nominated for playing a small-town girl from Virginia. Ryan Gosling, like all the nicest people, is Canadian. And Dev Patel was born in Kenya, raised in London, and is here for playing an Indian raised in Tasmania.&#xa0;</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we can't all come out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts (which <em>are not</em>&#xa0;the arts).&#xa0;</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">They gave me three seconds to say this, so. An actor's only job is to enter the lives of people who are different from us and let you feel what that feels like. And there were many, many, many powerful performances this year that did exactly that. Breathtaking, compassionate work.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart - not because it was good, there was nothing good about it - but it was effective and it did it's job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth. It was that moment, when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country, imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn't in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate, when its modeled by someone in a public platform, but someone powerful, it filters down into everybody's life. Because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Disrespect invites disrespect. Violences incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Okay - this brings me to the press. We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage. That's why our founder's enshrined the press and its freedoms in our Constitution. So I only ask the famously well-heeled Hollywood Foreign Press and all of us in our community to join me in supporting the committee to protect journalists. Because we're going to need them going forward and they'll need us to safeguard the truth.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">One more thing:&#xa0;Once, when I was standing around on the set one day whining about something, you know we were going to work through supper or the long hours or whatever, Tommy Lee Jones said to me, 'Isn't it such a priviledge, Meryl, just to be an actor?'</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Yeah, it is, and we have to remind each other of the privilege and the responsibility of the act of empathy. We should all be very proud of the work Hollywood honors here tonight. Meryl Streep's powerful speech is the only 'Golden Globes' moment you need to watch

<p>Today he'll play in The 3rd Annual Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup in <keyword id="202849" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Greenwich">Greenwich</keyword>, Connecticut for <a href="http://sentebale.org">Sentebale</a>, a charity he launched to benefit needy children in Lesotho.</p>
<p>And as it so often happens in Greenwich, <keyword id="42111" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wall-Street">Wall Street</keyword> will be represented on the field during this invite-only affair.</p>
<p>Michael Carrazza, the CEO of investment firm Solaia Capital and Chairman of Patriot National Bank (PNB), will be playing on the Prince's team — the match starts at 3:00 pm.</p>
<p>As you can imagine, gigs like this don't come around every day. Just getting into the match (let alone playing in it) has been tough. There were only 400 tickets to the event available, and the word from Greenwich is that it<a href="http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/One-tough-ticket-Prince-Harry-s-Greenwich-polo-4386466.php"> sold out in March.</a></p>
<p>Carrazza and Prince Harry will be joined on the Sentebale Land Rover team by amateur player Marc Ganzi and Malcolm Borwick, a regular on the England national team.</p>
<p>The opposing side, named for its sponsor, St. Regis, will be captained by international polo star Nacho Figueras. He'll be leading Peter Orthwein, chief executive of Thor Industries; Steve Lefkowitz and Dawn Jones, wife of actor Tommy Lee Jones — she's a top female polo player.</p>
<p>So on to how one gets invited to play on one of these teams without being an internationally recognized polo player, a prince, or a founding member of the Greenwich Polo Club (like Orthwein).</p>
<p>Carrazza has been an active polo player in the New York area for over a decade, but he says there are really two reasons why he was contacted and offered a spot on Prince Harry's team.</p>
<p>"They were looking for someone with my handicap level and the fact that I'm in the community with an initiative that compliments Sentebale made me a perfect fit," said Carrazza.</p>
<p>The initiative he's talking about is called <a href="https://www.pnbk.com/lend-hand">Lend A Hand.</a> Starting on May 15th Carrazza's bank, PNB, will match donations up to $10,000 made to either Sentebale or the Child Guidance Center of Mid-Fairfield County, it's an organization that helps children overcome behavioral and mental health challenges and it has been especially active since last year's school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.</p>
<p>In Carrazza's mind, the two causes dovetail perfectly.</p>
<p>Carrazza became Chairman of PNB back in 2010 after taking the company <a href="http://www.snl.com/irweblinkx/file.aspx?IID=4053180&amp;FID=10226550">through a recapitalization.</a> His latest project is the <a href="http://www.abladvisor.com/news/2247/solaia-capital-completes-launch-of-siena-lending-group">Siena Lending Group</a>, a company that provides asset based lending (ABL) loans of between $1-20 million to small and mid-sized companies.</p>
<p>The idea fills a specific need in American finance right now — helping smaller businesses (that are ignored by big banks) get loans, and expanding the balance sheets at regional banks with high quality loans that Siena's team can originate, service and monitor.</p>
<p>The Siena Group deal came together on April 26th, which tells you how quickly Carrazza has had to prepare for an event that will be attended by a long list of A-listers from Greenwich and beyond, like <a href="http://observer.com/2013/05/prince-harry-to-play-non-strip-polo-with-downtons-matthew-crawley/">Dan Stevens, the actor who played Downton Abbey's Matthew Crawley</a>, fashion designer Jason Wu, and model <a href="http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/Fashion-royalty-on-Prince-Harry-s-guest-list-4508511.php">Karolina Kurkova.</a></p>
<p>So no pressure.</p>

<p class="p1">Even with more than double McCarthy's film, "Oz" still falls far below the $116.1 million opening weekend of "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=aliceinwonderland10.htm">Alice in Wonderland</a>" and that of director Sam Raimi's largest "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Director&amp;id=samraimi.htm&amp;sort=opengross&amp;order=DESC&amp;p=.htm">Spider-Man</a>" opening (<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=spiderman2.htm">$88.1 million</a>).<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Outside of "Oz," it was still a painstakingly slow weekend at the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">The other wide release, Colin Farrell's "Dead Man Down," bombed and Warner Bros.' "Jack the Giant Slayer" took a massive dive in its second week. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Other than "Jack" and "Oz" no other film earned more that $7 million this weekend. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Out of the top ten this week include "A Good Day to Die Hard" in its fourth week and Keri Russell's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=darkskies.htm" target="_blank">Dark Skies</a>" flop.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">In its first week, "Emperor" featuring Tommy Lee Jones earned $1 million from a small 260 theaters. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong>Here are this week's winners and losers in Hollywood:</strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">10. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=lastexorcism2.htm">The Last Exorcism Part II</a>" dropped five spots in its second week earning $3.1 million. The film, which cost an estimated $5 million to make, has now earned $12 million at the box office.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">9. The Weinstein Company's (TWC) cartoon, "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=escapefromplanetearth.htm">Escape from Planet Earth</a>" also died down this week with $3.2 million. The alien kid flick has earned the majority of its $49.2 million gross in the U.S.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">8. TWC's Oscar film "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=silverliningsplaybook.htm">Silver Linings Playbook</a>" continues to perform well at theaters with $3.7 million. In its 17th week, the film is closing in on the $200 million mark worldwide and should hit it within the next week. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">7. Nicholas Sparks' film "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=safehaven.htm">Safe Haven</a>" added another $3.8 million to its $62.9 million haul. After four weeks, the film is now <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=nicholassparks.htm">behind 2010's "The Last Song"</a> after debuting stronger than Miley Cyrus' movie.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">6. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=21andover.htm">21 and Over</a>" drops three spots this week earning $5 million. This weekend's box office figure helps push it past its $13 million estimated production budget. By now, the equally low-budget and similar film "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=weekend&amp;id=projectx2011.htm">Project X</a>" of last year had earned $39.7 million. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">5. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=snitch.htm">Snitch</a>" moves down one spot from last week earning $5.1 million. In three weeks, The Rock's Lionsgate film has earned $31.9 million worldwide.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">4. Colin Farrell's not box office gold anymore. New thriller "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=deadmandown.htm">Dead Man Down</a>" flopped earning $5.4 million opening weekend.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>

With no other new films gaining traction, Melissa McCarthy's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=identitythief.htm">Identity Thief</a>" remains near the top of the box office earning another $6.3 million. After five weeks, that puts the film at $118.7 million worldwide. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">2. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=jackthegiantkiller.htm">Jack the Giant Slayer"</a> takes a giant 63 percent dip at the box office in week two with $10 million. So far, with only $22.6 million overseas, it doesn't appear the foreign box office will give the nearly $200 million film a giant boost. Worldwide, "Jack" has earned $66.4 million.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">1. It's no surprise that "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=oz.htm">Oz the Great and Powerful</a>" ruled the box office with $80 million. With a miserable start to the box-office year, that easily pits the film as the highest-earning film of the year so far. It's also the third largest March opening behind <span>last year's "The Hunger Games" and </span>"Alice in Wonderland."</p>

<p>While Ben Affleck was snubbed for a director nod at the Oscars, he got a double dose of vindication when he and the film scored victories for Best Director and Best Picture, Drama. "I don't care what the award is," he said while accepting the directing statue. He then thanked his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, for "sitting through this."</p>
<p>Lena Dunham, Daniel Day-Lewis, and "Les Misérables" also won big, while Sofia Vergara and "The Newsroom" came up short.</p>
